Can’t miss this spot. It’s a super small hole in the wall that’s bright like the sun, except white. Seems pretty clean, as you can see them cooking the food from the cash register. Portions are large(for dinner), and I was able to split up the General Tso’s chicken into 4 meals lol. But my complaint is that their general tso’s didn’t have the right flavor… either they didn’t put enough food coloring or sugar or ketchup. SOMETHING was missing. Maybe they just messed up cause it was almost closing time, but I’m wary to order the General from them again anticipating disappointment. Lunch special for $ 5? That definitely caught my eye. I’ll be ordering that from here if I get a Chinese takeout craving.

They call it East Garden now, but it is still the best Chinese if you want it cheap and fast. Lunch special is the most reasonable on the UES.

Delicious Chinese food, which seems weird to say. Chinese restaurants for me are always mediocre. Great flavor in their food. I ordered the Pork Fried Rice and Sesame Chicken Combo Platter. The rice is yellow rice, isn’t «really» fried, but its still delish! Everything has it own flavor and it doesn’t taste like rice just sitting with a bunch of vegetables. My only problem with them isn’t their food. It’s the customer service. The lady who is always there when I order is pretty rude. One time I ordered, paid, and she didnt tell the guys in the kitchen my order at all! I got impatient after 30 minutes, and she said, «OH!» turned around, and then told them my platter. At that point, I told her never mind, I dont have the time as I was on my lunch break for work, and she practically threw my money back at me. Love their food, but customer service definitely is not their high point.

This is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for reasonably priced, quick, and good American Chinese food. Delivery was simple and quick when I ordered over the phone. The vegetable dumplings were super good, seemingly homemade. Everything else was relatively on par with other inexpensive Chinese take out. The portions are also generous and easily made into two meals.

Got chinese at 9.30 tonight on my way home. Had high expectations as although cheap heard it had amazing flavor. Ordered on the phone and turned up 10 minutes later to her bagging it up. The shop was perfectly clean and looked amazing! 5 stars on appearance and cleanliness! I was so excited to start eating my meal. Unfortunately, I won’t say it was terrible or inedible but it didn’t have that yummy thick chinese sauce to any of the dishes I ordered(beef and broccoli, boneless ribs and beef chow mein) because of this i didn’t overly enjoy but my fiancé said it was ok it just tasted healthy. Being a usual dieter when I order chinese I expect the thick full flavor but with this meal i didn’t get that. Don’t expect your nasty local fatty chinese expect upper east side healthier style food

There isn’t really anything super special about this place, but it is the quintessential cheap Chinese take-out restaurant. Best cheap Chinese food in the area, fast delivery, great menu.

Dear Upper East Side, This is an intervention. Why are most of your lack-luster Chinese food restaurants so overpriced? Why does it cost me $ 50 for every take out order that at the end of the day just does not satisfy my Chinese food craving. Most of all, why are so many of the people in the neighborhood recommending this stuff to me(yes even hyping it up on Unilocal!) and ultimately leaving me disappointed and confused? Well guess what. I found a place. YEAH… it’s a hole in the wall. Yeah it doesn’t look fancy and maybe when I was there the sticker in the window said«rating pending.» So what? I took a chance because I like to live my life on the edge. And I’m glad I did. Guo’s is delicious. All of the tastes you know and love are there and they are SO on point. Lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, General Tso’s… all of the standards. Guo’s has got it. It’s CHEAP. I mean it is CHEAP! I’m talkin’…5 bucks for a lunch special that takes me two sittings to finish cheap. I was actually surprised at the quality of the food vs. the price when I first tried it. Now don’t get me wrong… there are way better Chinese places in the city for sure. But so far out of the stuff I’ve tried in the neighborhood(and for the price), Guo’s is my number 1. I’ve ordered from here enough times to know they are consistent as well. Hear my words, Upper East Siders. If you are over paying for Chinese take out that’s not even that special… you need to look in the mirror long and hard. Re-evaluate your life. You can even inbox me if you need to just vent about it. All I’m saying is… don’t overlook Guo’s just because it’s a hole in the wall. Remember the whole Diamond in the Rough thing from Aladdin? HASN’T ALADDINTAUGHTYOUANYTHING?

Knocking them down a notch cause they don’t give enough fried noodles with soup. And they don’t give a fortune cookie unless you ask for one.

I was nearby and in search of a quick lunch so I checked out Unilocal reviews and this place got some good ones. It did not disappoint. I had hot and sour soup, and general tso’s with white rice. After finishing all of my soup I didn’t have much room for the general tso’s but it was so good I had to eat some of it. Very pleasant man at register, taking orders and calling you when yours was ready. New go to place for take out lunch.

I’m definitely a fan of Guo’s! After moving to the UES, one of the first things I searched to find was good, cheap Chinese. After spending WAY too much money on some other places near by, Guos was finally recommended to me. The portions are decent sized and they serve classic, good, greasy fare! The delivery man has always been timely and courteous, and you can’t beat an $ 8 dinner special!

Friendly neighborhood Chinese place(for take-out, they can only seat like 2 people at a cafeteria style table… i.e. it’s not a restaurant, it’s a take-out place). Order 1x/week and they’ll even learn your name and your«regular order». All the classics. Affordable, tasty.

Above average Chinese take out /order in food at more than competitive prices. The portions are good and the food is always made to order, and in good time. The highlights for me are the fried chicken special with chicken fried rice and the corn soup. 4 stars because they have gotten my order wrong(fries delivered instead of rice) on one occasion.

Typical hole in the wall Chinese place with one minor caveat — the food is salty. OVERWHELMINGLY salty. I wasn’t looking for five star cuisine from this place but it was nearly inedible because of all. the. salt. Even if I am craving some quick and dirty Americanized Chinese food, I will not make the mistake of stumbling in here again.

Quick Wok away food. Portions, too much for one day, maybe two.

It’s very rare for me to want Chinese food while at work, for fear of the«itis» setting in. Guo’s usually hits the spot for me on the rare occasion I have a craving. Their menu is similar to most Chinese restaurants, but they’re a bit on the less expensive side and bigger on the flavor. I tend to place my order prior to picking up, which helps a lot, as they have a tendency to be busy during lunch. With only one table and 2 chairs available, the restaurant is more suitable for take-out as opposed to dine in, unless you don’t mind standing and eating at the same time. The only thing that drives me crazy is that they do not seem to cook their food long enough. I ordered a beef dish in the past and found the beef to be on the not-so-well-done side, a def deal breaker for me. I wound up throwing my meal out. I figured that incident for a fluke, and did not think it would happen again. Until today. Cooked beef, to me, should be a darker color; the beef I was served today, as in the past, was beige with a hint of pink, not just on the inside, but also on the outside. I figured it was only that one piece. Boy, was I wrong. Ninety percent of the slices of beef in my meal looked the same! I ended up removing the beef, and just eating the vegetables and rice, which were actually very flavorful. I would probably go back when I have a craving; but, I’ll stick to shrimp instead, at least I don’t have to hope that I can actually eat my entire meal. If you’re seeking a cheap, flavorful meal, then this is the place for you. Just make sure that you specify exactly how you want it cooked.

For us, Chinese food delivery is a right, not a privilege, for those of us who live on the Big Island(eg NYC). Accordingly, we’ve found — in our neighborhood, anyway — there are a number of above-average options for Chinese but typically we gravitate to Guo’s for several reasons: first, their prices are fair, and their delivery is quick and everything is hot upon arrival. Second, service-wise, they don’t screw up our orders and their phone and delivery people are friendly. And third, every time we order, they bring us bottles of water(or, if we’d prefer/request, sodas) gratis depending on how much we order. The food itself isn’t absolutely amazing but it’s good and their variety — plus their willingness to go off-menu if you so request — is great. Like many other Manhattan Chinese food options, we’ll continue ordering from Guo rather than go in person, and we’re definitely satisfied with where Guo’s is at on the great Chinese Food Delivery NY sliding scale.

I have passed by this place for years and never tried it. Worked very late last night and was looking for something on the healthy side to bring home for dinner. It was almost 11:30 at this point and the only things open were some pizza joints. I decided to give this place a shot, and was glad I did. The place itself looks like a little dump. Everything is worn down, beaten up, old looking, and the stoves and cooking equipment are ancient as if from another era. Even the overhead menu is worn and fading. Only a single table to sit at. I say this all in a good way though, with reverence maybe, as you can tell these stoves have cooked thousands of good meals for the locals in the area over the years. I looked over the Chinese menu which was full of options and decided to get steamed chicken and mixed vegetables. I was quite surprised how much food I actually received in a small portion for only $ 6.25! Plus, brown rice. This was a full meal. What struck me were the vegetables. Large pieces of vibrantly colored broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, and carrots. Very fresh. Lots of perfectly steamed chicken. The rice was cooked just right. They also gave me a cup of the brown sauce on the side. Filling, flavorful, and satisfying for a late night healthy meal. I just became a fan of this place. Cheap, quick, fresh, solid Chinese food. Open late too. Sometimes the best food comes out of these little dingy dumpy places.
