I went here a few years ago. Came to look for it again and it was closed:(it was a wonderful place with amazing veggie dishes. And tons of options!!! Especially ones with mushrooms – and I love mushrooms! Still pretty sad that it closed:(((

I used to frequent this spot years ago, but then I stopped because it was out of the way. What I will say is that we ordered almost everything on the menu and it was always absolutely delicious… you didn’t need to have the tempura to be satisfied, it’s ALL so good. I particularly remember the soups and shiitake caps… lots of mushroom dishes are great. The desserts are amazing. The best part of the restaurant is that it is totally satisfying and you never miss the meat. The creativity is very impressive as is the quiet zen like atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Amazing place for vegetarian and vegans. Friendly service and attentive staff. The wonton appetizer and apple cobbler dessert are fabulous. Not such a fan of the Seiten skewers. Décor and ambiance A+. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for my vegetarian friends!

The food was great! I really enjoyed eating here, felt so relaxed and comfortable in the cozy, nicely-lit environment. I loved the Moo-Shoo– so flavorful and good, great for a not-too-heavy dish. Our waiter was extremely pleasant and helpful. He explained everything on the menu we had questions about, made sure we enjoyed our food and even offered to take it back if we didn’t. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I appreciated the great selection of vegetarian only food choices. I definitely expect to return!

I like this place very much. It is quiet, staff was very friendly. The avocado tartar was yummy, the grilled oyster mushroom with asparags was just excellent! The tempora shiitake was not as great as the other two dishes. I will definitely come back again

I stopped by here with a friend last weekend for dinner after a solid afternoon in Washington Square Park. We were drawn in by the claim that we would not simply be eating a meal, but having an experience for the 5 senses. Somewhat incredulous, we took the plunge. I ordered the eggplant stuffed with herbed tofu cheese and the white bean, root vegetable, and pumpkin soup. I have to admit that the soup was quite hearty and definitely hit the spot — it was balanced and flavorful. The stuffed eggplant was also pretty good, but I thought that the tomato sauce in which it was prepared overpowered its flavor. Overall, the food was good(particularly for some who isn’t a vegetarian), but I wouldn’t say it was an omnisensory experience. I’d definitely go again if I was in the area to try out some of their other menu items. P. S. They’ll charge your phone for you if you ask nicely!

3.5. The high end feel interior adds a lot to the experience, as does affordable wine bottles. The food is tasty but nothing that made me go WOW. Still, a great place to go as a vegetarian and have good, flavorful, interesting food for a reasonably price in an atmosphere that feels like you are out for a nice meal:) I only take veg-friendly people here; honestly not quite good enough to tempt hardcore carnivores. Pay attention to other Unilocalers for what dishes are worthwhile and what are misses. M only disagreement with general opinion is the scallion pancakes are good… but they are just scallion pancakes. Not noticeably different from the standard, to me. I did like the lettuce wraps and the kale salad.

Disappointing. In spite of the premium prices and the sales pitch about feeding the«five senses,» this is basically a typical vegetarian Asian soymeat joint albiet with somewhat higher quality variation. I came in for the lunch special, wanting to treat myself on a July afternoon with too much sun and not enough veg. I ordered smoked Beijing seitan with coconut rice and pickled papaya(everything came with pickled papaya that day…). The papaya was small; it was basically a condiment. The rice was mildly nutty but pretty flavorless. The seitan did not taste smoked; it was just prepared in the style of Peking(I do applaud the post-colonialism in calling it Beijing, but the flavor didn’t get the upgrade!) duck. WORSTOFALL, there were a couple large cucumber and tomato slices wedged in, and the tomato was obviously not local – it tasted like the tomatoes you buy at the supermarket in the winter. Why serve seasonal produce if it’s not fresh and local? And why portray yourself as gourmet and concerned about great vegetable dishes if you’re basically just serving up fried soy? While the seitan was good and the rice at least had a great texture, and the portions were good, I left feeling unsatisfied because I didn’t get my veggie fix. $ 15 is ridiculous for a seitan lunch special of this caliber. At least offer a side chilled soup or juice or something. After the server brought me the dish, she walked right past me half a dozen times without bothering to ask if I liked it.

I enjoy eating at Gobo. I had a great experience with the service, and Gobo deserves to be praised for what I can say is some of the best service I’ve ever gotten in a moderately priced restaurant. The food was good for the price point. I tastes the yam fries(which were excellent and not too salty), as well as the Vietnamese summer rolls. I enjoyed the summer rolls, but would have enjoyed peanuts or something for texture since fish sauce ain’t gonna be near them things. I had the Beijing smoked seitan, which I think had been deep fried to crisp the outside. It tasted good, and I’ve had a lot of bad seitan in my life. It was on a bed of way too over salted Gai lan, which was itself on some sort of mushroomy broth. I would have either preferred it steamed without the wetness added by the broth, or to have it stir fried or made into a soup, but somewhat-wet deal was not for me. There was also a purée of a quarter cup of something which I did not enjoy. My partner had a stir fried tofu and pepper dish which was filled with wok hei and killer. Go for that. All in all a good vegetarian option with great service, although I wish some items were slightly tweaked to hit all five tastes and textures as well.

We came here tonight for my friend’s going away and the first thing I noticed was a fresh décor, lovely atmosphere and open. We ordered white sangria with fresh berries as starters. I got to taste the Mojito which was just as fresh. For starters, I highly recommend the scallion pancakes with citrus sauce– the pancakes with crispy and flakey with the right amount of zest. Also, the spinach and cheese wontons were pretty good but since it was soy cheese, I don’t think they did justice. Also, the eggplant stuffed with herbed tofu cheese which reminded me a bit like eggplant parmesan, but without the fried aspect. For the main courses, the seitan medallions with citrus sauce and veggies were amazing! The medallions were crispy and flavorful, and the veggies added a nice lightness since the seitan can get a bit heavy. The pad thai-like noodles and butternut squash ravioli were both ok, however I wouldn’t call them out of this world or something I would go back to Gobo for. But, the medallions– I definitely would!

Surprisingly very good food. I tend to have low expectations for vegan restaurants bcoz I’m not vegan and enjoy dairy, seafood, and occasional pork fat. But most of the dishes had really satisfying flavors. Nothing was bland. I’m not a huge fan of their open kitchen bcoz the smell of whatever they’re cooking comes right into where you’re sitting. I’d rather enjoy the smell of the food served at my table and not at someone else’s. But this will be the place I’d recommend to my vegetarian or vegan friends.

Honestly, I’d been here once before with my boyfriend and our experience left little to be desired. HOWEVER, I went back with a buddy of mine(not a vegan, mind you) who used to work there and he showed me EXACTLY how you should do Gobo. BLOWYOURMINDMUST-HAVES: *New England Roll– trust me when I advise getting this sans the tomato sauce on the side but instead get the Green Tea Mustard. Just TRUSTME on this! *Slow Cooked Malaysian Curry w/HOMEMADE NAAN!!! *Eggplant stuffed with Tofu Cheese *Lettuce Wraps *GRILLEDOYSTERMUSHROOMSWITHFRESHASPARAGUS!!! I am salivating right now as I write this review… Not to mention that I went back the day after this meal to have MOREOFEVERYTHING! MUSTGO. MUSTEAT. MUSTLOVE. *Not everything on this menu is worth a rave review so read other reviews/ask your server!

I was here for dinner on a Saturday night with 3 of my friends. I love the ambience of this place, it was bustling and at the same time very relaxing with its dim lighting setup. For drinks, I ordered the carrot, orange and ginger juice — which was fresh and refreshing. One of my friends ordered the beet, apple and ginger juice which was delicious as well. For the appetizers, I ordered the pine nut vegetable medley with lettuce wraps. They were able to make this gluten free by substituting in with tamari sauce(hooray!). I thought it was a very balanced dish, I loved the fresh crunchy of the iceberg lettuce with the veggies and the richness of the pine nuts. I would definitely recommend this dish to people! My friends ordered the roti kanai, this comes with a curry with potatoes and other root veggies and flaky flatbread(similar to the Indian parantha). They ordered another roti with the dish — it was that good! They also ordered the tempura shiitake caps in mashed sweet potatoes & raisins, which they said was too sweet and they didn’t even finish it. For the main course, I ordered the Vietnamese spicy rice noodles stir fry. I liked this dish, the rice noodles were yummy and the siracha sauce on the side. I like my dishes spicy so that was a perfect addition for me. Overall, it was great dining experience. The service was prompt and our waiter was friendly. I would definitely come here for another visit — a good place to come for group dinners of 4 – 6.

Now honestly — is this a place where you WANT to go eat or is it a place where you HAVE to go eat because you’ve chosen a certain lifestyle? …Because all I could think about was how this dish and that dish is a close approximation of what non vegetarians eat. Yeah, like REAL version of the food. And that’s where this place falls down a bit in my head. It’s purpose built to be an imitation as opposed to something creative. Now — imitation it does very well — the green tea noodle dish was a good approximation of yaki soba, the Singapore Mai Fun was very good, and the slow-cooked Malaysian curry was very hearty — and we marveled at how beef-like in texture the nameless protein they threw in there was. Even with the 3-star review we will likely come back and try the other dishes. Despite ordering too much food and trying a bunch of different dishes — we walked out feeling not overly stuffed and that saved the experience overall.

Food here was not bad, but overall pretty average to be honest. I’ve been to very delicious vegan restaurants before, and I didn’t find that the food here was«exploding with flavor» as I had heard from another review. Apparently the most popular small plate is the pine nut vegetable medley with lettuce wraps, which we ordered. Great texture, as they add these small rice balls to make it crispier. We also ordered the eggplant stuffed with herbed tofu cheese which left much to be desired, in my opinion. For entrees, we ordered Vietnamese spicy stir-fry rice noodle with bean sprouts and the baby spinach salad with mango and soy cheese. The salad was quite delicious, but the Vietanmese stir-fry noodles tasted very average, like noodles you could get at any small noodle stand. One thing positive to note is that waiters were very nice and were very generous on the wine pour! All things considered, this is a cool place, and I’m always a fan of more vegan/vegetarian options. I would go back to try more of the menu and give it a second chance.
