STORECLOSEDINNOVEMBER2012. A shame. Early last year(?) they got shut down for a few days after police sent in underage academy cadets to buy beer 4 times in 3 months. George had to pay a fine to the city. Then the liquor authority banned him from selling beer for a month and wanted to assert a second fine for something like $ 10,000 for him to continue to be allowed to sell liquor, but he couldn’t afford that and pulled all liquor from the shelves. That apparently was the last straw for the business, which needed beer sales, and the store closed. It’s hard to compete when a 7 – 11 opens across the street too.

The guys here are frequently cranky, but they make a pretty good egg sandwich. I can fit my stroller in here without much trouble, so if I’m pushing the peanut and I need me some egg sandwich, George & Sons it is. Nothing special here, but good enough for sure. I don’t know why the guys are cranky, though.

I just wanted a BLT and some iced tea for a nice dinnertime bench sitting and East River staring session at Carl Schurz Park. That’s what I got. P. S.: Nice selection of condoms and Welch’s Fruit Snacks by the cash register.

Good self serving coffee and Chicken salad sandwich! Take the sandwich to the Carl Schurz Park and you have a cheap and yummy lunch with a good view.

Got their roast beef, which is pretty good. But I’d rather go to Milano Marketplace a few blocks away.

Pretty good deli overall. I was debating btwn three or four stars, but went for the four b/c some of their sandwhiches are worth it. Pros — They’re really creative with their sandwhiches. they have one(can’t remember the name — brooklyn something) with brie, smoked turkey, russian dressing — its fantastic! They have all of the regular run of the mill deli sandwhiches but also have another list of creative ones to try. They also have a great breakfast special that comes with coffee– i’m not a big breakfast sandwhich person but I’ve heard its good. They always have milanos!(my guilty pleasure!) Cons — they close fairly early(11:00) I miss 24 hour delis from downtown, their diet coke isn’t very cold and is more expensive than 7 – 11 which is across the street. Their coffee isn’t that good and they don’t have veggie or light cream cheese :(
