Couldn’t eat at all. Lots of dark grease from the meat and bacon is way too greasy in burger and I cannot call it ‘Food’. I only drank half can of soda and gave up.$ 14.50 went to trash can.

Came here after dinner for their ice cream sandwich. It was around 7 pm and there was only 1 other table occupied. It looked like they were still training their staff and they were still setting up, but that’s cool. The young lady working at the cashier was super friendly. My bf and I shared the chocolate chunk ice cream sandwich and this is not your typical ice cream sandwich… It was literally stuffed between two buns. I was really surprised because it’s the first time I’ve seen something like this. Still, it was a large portion and a great way to get my dessert in. I really enjoyed the contrast of the warm bun and cold ice cream. It’s a very different experience. The menu is quite extensive and it looks like it would be worth it to come back and try an actual meal. They also serve alcohol and have a speakeasy type bar that looks like it’s worth checking out.

I’m in the borderline of Little Italy/Chinatown area really often, and probably would have left this shop unnoticed if a friend didn’t pick this spot. The interior is simple but thoughtful and cute. The back has a wall filled with old tapes. I love that that high tables have hooks beneath the table to hang your stuff. Definitely comes in handy when the chairs are backless stools and you don’t want to hog an empty stool to pile your belongings on. I ordered the Spicy Smokehouse Burger with a side of sweet potato fries and the EVOO ice cream sandwich. The spicy smokehouse burger was decent: the meat was seasoned well and I liked the gouda and bacon. Honestly, it’s hard to go wrong when you stack bacon onto a burger. But I didn’t really get what was«spicy» about it. I tried the mayo on its own, wasn’t spicy. The chipotle barbecue sauce didn’t really pierce through either. Overall, the heat aspects were visually present: I saw the specks of jalapeño in the mayo, but where was the heat on my palate. It was completely missing from the equation. One thing to note is that this is also not your average burger when comparing how greasy it is. Yes, I know, i’m not eating a burger to be healthy, and I expect it not to come dry either, but this was different. There was a LOT of oil, not the regular decent amount, but to the point that it was dripping off everywhere. Though the burger was good, I don’t really see it worth being $ 9.50 for a similar sized burger I can get at a Shake Shack. The sweet potato fries were really good though; I really enjoyed them. They were cut a lot thinner than regular sweet potato fries, so they were crispier and gave it more of that contradictory unhealthy yet healthy vibe. Because obviously soggy sweet potato fries are the worse thing that can happen. Now for the EVOO ice cream sandwich. It was good, but also disappointing at the same time. Maybe it was the seats we had, or maybe we came on a day when the heater was on just a tad bit too high indoors, but that ice cream melted FAST. It was pooling, dripping, just a mess. I swear I should have taken it to-go and let it refreeze outside. Then maybe my experience with it would not have been so lacking. The ice cream was okay, but I don’t really see EVOO as being a must get kind of flavor. It’s hard to put into words the taste of it. It’s doesn’t exactly taste like olive oil or anything, and there’s a hint of vanilla, but it doesn’t really taste like pure vanilla either. The flavor is too subtle to really identify it. The balsamic strawberry jam is more overpowering: it’s tart and the berries really hit you immediately. The brioche bun was an interesting spin on your average cookie ice cream sandwich, but like the burger, not worth $ 8.50. If you really want to try the flavor and get your money’s worth, opt for the scoop, definitely not the sandwich.

If I die bury me inside the Louis store. Or inside Genuine Superette. Joking, kind of. I was mad hungry when I met a gf here for this week’s fashionplate. I nursed a glass of red wine while waiting for her and then I was finally able to order! I got the Spicy Smokehouse burger special that came with fries and a Tecante. Pretty good deal. The burger was delish and the fries were crispy and getting a practically free beer thrown in is never a bad thing. I also tried the emerald city cocktail, I love places that combine green juice and liquor. I definitely will be back. Afterwards we checked out Genuine Liquorette that is in the back and you kind of make your own cocktails, so fun. I was dressed cas for this girls night and rocked our Jacqueline striped kimono.

Been here friday night with friends because originally were going to the bar downstairs the genuine liquorette but since its so packed we dicided to chill & eat first. So this is just a random pick. The place is nice & clean. It looks like a vintage style with the decorations & lots of plants that adds up beauty. Me & my friend sat on the table. A guy give us the menu & dicided what to order & go to the front to order our food. Self order place. Here’s what we order: Mine is spicy grilled chicken sandwich– $ 9.18 Friend got spicy smoke burger– 8.73 Friend got buttermilk battered chicken– 9.64 My sandwich is really good! It has a very good texture of chicken & the spiciness is balance. The bun is good too because its not wet like when you order some sandwich or burger from other places. I took a bite of my friends sandwich & same as mine, its delicious! For drinks I got the hibiscus lemonade. Perfect combo for my sandwich. People that works here are friendly and nice. They always check our table & ask if we need something else. So happy that We randomly pick this place & now I wanna go back to try some more food from here! Good job!

The Chicken Sandwich served with coleslaw on the softest bun imaginable. It may have been the best chicken sandwiches I’ve had to date. The chicken was fried perfectly, the slaw was not too much, but just right. Threw on some Sriracha and wow. The Spicy Smokehouse Burger did not disappoint, either. Bacon was extra crispy, and the bun is again soft AF. Had a bite of the vanilla bean ice cream sandwich. If I wasn’t lactose-intolerant, I would have had 13 more bites. The staff could not have been any friendlier; in fact, one employee was named aptly-named Charisma. The vibe inside is cool-casual; a dinette, but not your grandmother’s. Looking forward to returning, eating more, and checking out the bar downstairs.

After severely stalking Genuine Superette on Instagram(as you do), I finally made it down to Grand Street for lunch. Right away, the space hooks you in: it’s bright and colorful, but still homey and familiar. With all the«upgraded» fast food joints popping up these days, Genuine Superette’s California-style diner is a welcome(and rare) addition. My friend and I shared a couple of dishes on the menu: the Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich, the Ahi Tuna Tacos, Sweet & Sour Cucumber Salad and the Skinny Sweet Potato Fries. I honestly can’t say enough good things about the food. I’d be happy to never see another tuna tartare taco again(hello, EVERYMENUINNYC) but these made me remember why I loved them in the first place. The cucumber salad was refreshing and balanced, the sweet potato fries perfectly crisp. All that aside, the chicken sandwich was by far the highlight: crisp and juicy chicken, Green Goddess aioli and cabbage-apple slaw, served on my all-time favorite burger bun: the potato roll. Long live the potato roll! Y’all, forget about Fuku — this chicken sandwich is legit! Another thing worth mentioning about Genuine Superette is they have the balls to make ice cream sandwiches… with brioche. That’s right folks, ice cream griddled between two pieces of fluffy BREAD. And not just any ice cream: Oddfellows! We tried two sandwiches: The Blueberry-Buttermilk Honey Cornflake and the Chocolate Coconut. While the coconut was just okay, the blueberry-buttermilk was amazing. Crunchy, honey-soaked cornflakes and toasted bread; cold, creamy ice cream… (I need a minute) Genuine Superette is a great addition to the neighborhood and a home run for a quick and satisfying lunch. The flavors are fresh and balanced, the menu is creative and fun, and like I mentioned: great vibe. Go check it out!

Genuine Superette is a genuine grand slam on Grand St. How anyone could give this joint less than 4-stars for food is BEYOND me… Above and beyond me.(I sound like your mother when she gets really mad.) Genuine Superette has been on my to-do list since they opened up their second location downtown. For whats some may still consider fast food, it’s likely the best you can get. I’ve been searching for a place like this since the dawn of my eating days… Shake Shack, delicious but no fried chicken sandwich(at least at most locations), and an otherwise limited menu – hype makes it difficult to eat at most of their restaurants with seating. Schnippers – great idea, but just a bit too corporate – food is solid, but burgers lack that special something even though it’s a nice thin patty(personal preference, but I love that). Genuine Superette, the perfect median point, with an expansive menu of fried foods with some simple healthier dishes sprinkled in between. In addition to that, they have a kick-ass dessert menu using Oddfellows ice cream, particularly the buttermilk blueberry flavor in fried bread. While I didn’t have that on my first venture, the buttermilk blueberry is my favorite out-of-the-box combination from any of the speciality ice cream shoppes in the tri-state area. We stuck to the menu favorites by ordering the fried chicken sandwich, a classic burger, and french fries. You would think something so utterly simple couldn’t be as good as I’m making it sound, but it truly is. The chicken sandwich was comprised of precisely fried, juicy chicken with a fantastic apple cilantro slaw and special sauce on top. The burger had a mustard special sauce, American cheese, lettuce, and tomato and although boring in concept, highly delicious in taste – the meat was cooked at a perfect medium rare whilst still having a nice crispy edge. The fries tasted like McDonald’s on steroids, and pretend that’s ‘basic’ but you know you’re salivating. As for the service, with the exception of the sour puss who took my order everyone else was sweeter than pie. The woman who brought our food out was so friendly and also handed us some ice water without us even asking. The atmosphere is relaxed/casual, but fun and tastefully designed with nice art, plants, neon fixtures, and a surf video roll on the back wall. While some Unilocalers may disagree, this is absolutely a destination restaurant for anyone has a hardcore love for fried food and burgers. No matter how my palette has delveloped over the years, there’s just something special about an impeccably cooked burger, and Genuine delivers just that.

Yes, yes, yes! I had this place bookmarked, but I couldn’t quite remember why, and looking over the menu didn’t help. Everything on the menu sounds delicious! The person at the counter went through the menu with us and gave us her recommendations for each section. So helpful! Ultimately, we ended up getting: — Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich: first of all, this was huge. The chicken was juicy and just soooo good. Very simple, but executed well. — 50⁄50 Fries: Surprisingly really great fries. We ordered them without thinking too much about it, but I’m glad we got it! Usually, sweet potato fries don’t get too crispy, but these did. The real star? The sauces. We got the house sauce, their take on ranch and an avocado one. — Olive Oil Ice Cream Sandwich: definitely unconventional, but it’s nothing to be scared of the olive oil ice cream is creamy and almost buttery. The balsamic strawberry jam complements it well, and the bread it came with was nice and warm.

Hannah our server is a doll and the service and food is so good I went there for lunch and dinner with two different friends. First round I had the Ahi Tuna tacos, spicy burger and the Buttermilk Honey Blueberry ice-cream sandwich with toasted cornflakes and caramelized honey. Dessert was so good I had to order another one and chose the Extra Virgin Olive Oil with strawberry jam. Everything was light and refreshing. Definitely a must try spot. Second round I reorder the Ahi Tuna tacos and the buttermilk chicken sandwich and of course the Buttermilk Blueberry ice-cream sandwich again! So freaking delicious! Very interesting ambiance with a couple of outdoor seating.

Searching for that perfect NYC burger experience? So was I until I visited the Genuine Superette on Grand. The double stack with bacon, 50⁄50 fries and wonderfully friendly staff, what more. Well the burger looked amazing and tasted better still with wonderfully crispy bacon to boot. Visit and if you sit outside you get the street show that is Mulberry Street which now seems like a Disneyland remix of the original.

Such a cute spot tucked in Little Italy! I absolutely love their retro theme with lively music and the whole order-at-the-counter thing. It’s a cheery and fun place with tons of natural light. They price their items so that it comes out to an even price after tax, which is convenient. However, I did feel like prices were a bit steep — two burgers for $ 20? I would’ve expected them to have either been larger or come with fries/drink for that price. I tried the super duper stack burger(double cheeseburger). It was awesome to see that their menu is geared towards healthier eating but I was extremely surprised to see how greasy the burgers were. It’s one thing to have a juicy burger but another to have your hands and the bottom bun soaked in grease when you’re trying to eat it. Even though the burger was tasty, I was so put off by the amount of grease dripping from it. I did like their sweet pickles though because it went better with the patties than the standard pickle. I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it was a bit too pricey and greasy for me.

A breath of fresh air in this neighborhood filled with touristy Italian joints and, just a couple blocks away, tons of authentic Chinese fare. Genuine has the cool, modern vibe of places I used to frequent in Venice on the west coast. It’s a stylishly appointed space with a super cool wall of cassette players and tapes, and recently they’ve started to offer outdoor seating. I’m surprised it’s not more packed when I walk by, but then I realize most people in that area are tourists who are looking for what remains of Little Italy. My absolute favorites on the menu are the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and their burger. The chicken sandwich comes with this refreshing cole slaw that balances out the crispy fried chicken and gives it a nice crunch. As a native Californian, I love their burger, which to me tastes like an elevated version of my favorite In-N-Out burger. Even Shake Shack loyalists will enjoy, promise. Be sure to get the golden fries — though I hate to make another fast food chain analogy, they’re the size and consistency of McDonald’s fries, but better. Oh, and for the vegetarians out there check out the fried green tomato sandwich! I have to say there are a few items on the menu that I wasn’t thrilled with. For one, their salads. It’s cool that they offer healthy options but these were just flavorless. I was also disappointed by the breakfast burrito. I didn’t know you could really mess up a breakfast burrito, but I was not a fan. Finally, though I was excited to see their unique-sounding ice creams on the menu, the ice cream sandwiches were overly sweet because of the heavy syrups they put in there. I’d order the ice cream again, but just on its own. Despite there being a few flops on the menu in my opinion, I’m still a huge fan because their good stuff is REALLY good. Also, their service is always so warm and friendly, it’s a pleasure going in there.

went back again tonight with the bf! yay. the bf is a huge burger fan and tried the super duper stack burger. after a few bites, he critiqued the burger and liked it on all fronts, patty, cheese, sauce, buns. i tried the build your own burger, which comes with lettuce, tomato, and house sauce. i added the awesome sweet pickles for good measure. we also shared 50⁄50 fries and it was a great portion! the bf also really liked the avocado ranch dressing, goes so well with our fries. really good burgers, will be back for sure, the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is tempting me!

Living in this neighborhood puts you in the epicenter of all things Italian. One thing I have missed from living on the West Side are the awesome food spots in the Gotham West Market. One of the best was definitely Genuine Roadside. Known for their amazing comfort food offerings with a healthier twist, it is with great joy to welcome Genuine Superette to downtown Manhattan! The most eye-catching thing on the menu is definitely the«frylow» technology which reducing the calorie content for each offering by close to 50%. Healthy fried food? Where does one sign up? The menu definitely has a West Coast influence with their tuna tacos, fried chicken sandwiches, and California salads. The restaurant’s main attraction, buttermilk battered chicken, never disappoints. Try it in any form: slicked in salad, fried with coleslaw in a sandwich, or wrapped with lemongrass in a taco. A side of those addictive pickle fries wouldn’t be a bad idea either. The staff is very friendly and a pleasure to deal with. They are open until midnight on weekdays. That serves as an awesome alternative to all the Chinese takeout spots and pizzerias as the only last night options in the area. Now if only they can keep the dinner menu for late nights(after 10pm)…

Came here because I was craving tacos, heard they had wifi, and was interested in a space for a group of friends to chill out after work. You can’t peruse their Unilocal page without noticing the Ice cream sandwiches however, so I set out to order some Ahi Tuna tacos in a crunchy shell, and the Vanilla Bean Caramel Ice Cream sandwich. The space aims for a retro, west coast vibe but the prices definitely feel like modern-day Manhattan. At over $ 11, the fish tacos were supremely crunchy but a little flavorless. The tuna didn’t seem to have been treated besides having cilantro and avocado garnish on top. There was definitely a mayo sauce that squirted all over my hands when I took my first bite, but this was pretty lacking and didn’t taste like anything. I tried some of my friend’s shrimp tacos, which are served in mini soft shell tortillas. They were pretty spicy and much more flavorful. The Ice Cream sandwich was equally expensive, running at almost $ 8. It’s OddFellows ice cream stuffed inside piping hot bread to create a super soft mouthful of hot and cold. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of how SWEET this was, and while it was a different way to eat ice cream, the experience was super messy and hard to finish as the caramel was overpowering. My favorite part was after the ice cream was gone, and eating the bread which was soaked in the melted remains. They have a great selection of alcohol and mixed drinks, but the service is very inconsistent. You order at the counter and they give you a number to stand on your table. It was frustrating when our food came out at all random times, with people who ordered earlier not getting their food until everyone else had. Similarly, water is not doled out freely, and I had to ask at the counter twice to get a glass. For their offerings(tacos, ice cream sandwiches, etc), I think there are better places to find them for better value on your $$.

This has quickly become one of my favorite spots in lower Manhattan. Created by the same geniuses who brought us, Public and Saxon + Parole, Genuine Superette is a nice treat at the border of Little Italy/Chinatown and Nolita. It has a very laid back and retro ambiance, with a vintage tape deck on the wall. There is also a window and you can see it’s a partial open kitchen. If you’re lucky, you can watch the chefs cooking your meal– we got to watch them make our ice cream sandwiches one day! Overall, the staff here is friendly and they make great suggestions– just ask for what their suggestions are! My typical meal here consists of: 1. Fried chicken sandwich 2. A glass of Pot Of Gold 3. Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Sandwich My boyfriend and I love this place and since it’s been open, we’ve already been here more than a handful of times, making this our new favorite. We have also brought a handful of friends, all who have also enjoyed their meals here. Although the portions are a tad smaller, when you taste the food you surely will be content with the flavors and satisifed after your meal.
