GC Salon and Spa

I can’t say enough good things about GC! I’ve followed Dorka faithfully the last couple of years because she does a great wash and set, and blowout. She takes great care of my hair and I always get compliments as soon as I step out! :) Everyone at the salon is super friendly and make the experience a relaxing one, whether it’s with a glass of hot tea or sharing in a good laugh. You have to check this place out.

I was able to make a last minute appointment with Kim for a Brazilian blowout last weekend. She and her husband own the salon and came over from Australia. Kim did a great job with my Brazilian blowout and was very sweet. I’ll definitely see her again for this treatment.

I scheduled a shampoo and blow dry here and had a great experience. Lovely people, nice place, perfectly clean and talented stylist. Will definitely visit again!

I have been getting my hair done with Dorka for almost 10 years, followed her to every salon she has worked at and I don’t know if she’s hard up for money or what, but she obviously thinks it is ok to make people pay for products that don’t work and/​or blindside them by charging them for things they didn’t want or ask for! BEWARE!!! It truly saddens me to have to write this review but people should be warned that she is dishonest!
First she told me to buy a package for blowouts $ 200+ knowing that she never blows out my hair! I always do a wash and set! After I pay she says oh no sorry you cant get the wash and set, that’s more money and not included in the package! Why on earth would my hairdresser of almost 10 years recommend i pay for a package to get blowouts when she knows I do not like blowing out my hair?! At most places getting a wash and set or blowout is interchangeable and the same price. Usually a wash and set is less $ because the hairdresser can take other clients while you sit under the dryer and its less stress on their arms blowing out your hair! I asked the owner if I could switch to wash and sets since i already paid and she said of course! no problem! but then I see Dorka take her in the back room and the owner comes back out and says I’m sorry you can’t get a wash and set with this package! I expressed my frustration to Dorka and her response was «IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO GET YOUR HAIR DONE HERE THAN YOU SHOULDN’T GET IT DONE HERE» I was floored!!! I have no problem paying for services I actually want! And I should be able to decide how I want to spend MY money!
Then THE LAST STRAW… I got my hair colored here to cover my grays, Dorka assured me this was the best color and that it would last me at least a month. I paid $ 180 and my grays were showing again after 1 wash. She asked me to come back to fix it for me and I still had grays when I left that day! As I was leaving the owner told me I owed another $ 41 for a deep conditioner! At no point did I request a deep conditioner, nor was I asked if I wanted a deep conditioner! I spoke to the owners and expressed how upset and disappointed I was with the dishonesty and service from Dorka, they offered me to come back and color my hair for a 3^rd time with Kim and I declined because I didn’t want to waste yet another day trying to cover my grays and it not working. Either the products sucks or Dorka doesn’t know what she’s doing! The owners were very apologetic but did not offer me a refund! Just very disappointed all around! THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER SALONS IN NEW YORK!

Friendly staff. Clean private rooms, I went for a Wax. It hurts but can’t blame the spa for that! I was satisfied with the service and they had a deal for $ 39 for a Brazilian which is decent price for today. I will be back, great spa I highly recommend it. Also they use a chocolate wax which is great, wasn’t sticky at all afterwards

I have been going to GC for brazilian blowouts on and off since 2011. Until recently, it was only an average place with sometimes uncomfortable encounters with the male receptionist plus a dreaded cash-​only policy.
Recently, however, GC changed management. The new management — transplants to NYC from Australia — are excellent! They are extremely friendly and hospitable. Plus, they’ve upgraded the POS system so you can pay with credit card and get email confirmations of everything.
In terms of services, the brazilian blowout with Kim was great! She was professional and great to chat with. Now, I’ve started to try other services at GC. I got a mani and spa pedi from Juvi, which was well worth it given the summer special price of $ 40.
The space is very clean and bright, and they have wifi available as well. Definitely give GC Salon a try!

I recently moved to NYC and did a lot of research to find a decent place to do my wax. Dee did my services and she was very nice like my fellow Unilocalers suggested. However they only have soft waxes and the chocolate one to be more specific. For my full legs I wished they had the roller which would be faster than using a stick to apply the wax. I hope to return, if I don’t find someplace better, because I love how clean the place was.

I had a nice experience and the receptionist was very polite. I went for a facial and it was very relaxing I think I fell asleep. Thank you Alex.

I have been going to this salon for a while now and it is now under new management, awesome Australians! This salon is warm and inviting. I love going here to just unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC!
Plus it’s always a bonus to be greeted by the Australian accents and their warm hospitality! All the staff are fantastic and very attentive. Alex is fantastic, I am very picky with my eyebrows but after I explained to her what I wanted she went above and beyond to achieve what I wanted! She is also very gentle when getting a Brazilian and girls, you know what I mean!
You will leave feeling like a million bucks, I highly recommend GC Salon and Spa! You won’t be disappointed.

I just had the best bikini wax ever. I was in New York for business and had some time to kill. Was able to make an appointment right away and it was within walking distance from my hotel. Natasha who did my wax was fast and knew what she was doing. Loved it!

I just got the Brazilian wax done with Natasha and she was amazing. I arrived at GC was immediately attended to and I found the atmosphere to be relaxing throughout the time I was there. The room where the waxing was done was clean and inviting. Natasha gets such great reviews because she is professional, thorough, quick and attentive. I really felt taken care of and relaxed which is odd considering the procedure. I will definitely come back again.

The front receptionist guy makes it seem like you’re inconveniencing him when you ask him questions. Natasha is great with her Brazilian but I’ve stopped going to GC because the atmosphere with is off-​putting. Don’t get a Brazilian with anyone else but Natasha. They gave me another woman once and man, it hurt like *******!

I’ve been going to GC for some time now for facials, exfoliations, and massages. Prior to this visit, I would have given this place five stars because of the cleanliness, friendliness, and great spa deals.
This time around, I decided to go for a facial, massage, and brazilian wax.
Let’s just say that when I got home I noticed scars on my face and a layer of skin missing from my vagicat.

Got a Brazilian wax by Natasha and I highly recommend her! She was very thorough and overall did a great job. One of best Brazilians I’ve gotten in the city considering the price and quality of the work.
Went back for another wax since I started this draft & same perfect service! They have a very good deal, I believe it was $ 150 for 6 waxes or something like that. Do check with them. Those prices are as good as ones advertised on Groupon and such.

GC salon and Spa is one the best place in the heart of Time Sq, NYC. Hector is an awesome Manager and The whole staff is amazing and very welcoming. Fast and great service. Make sure you ask for Natasha for waxing, facial, or massage. She is awesome. Must mention her name when you make your appointment. She is Very fast, but also very good at what she does. This place deserve

I feel like I have finally seen the light. I used Unilocal to lead me to this very well hidden salon in search of a brazilian and a pedicure after my most recent experience at my go-​to Korean «spa» scarred me for life (who doesn’t use baby powder to prep for a Brazilian?! In the summer, no less!).
I had a great experience here. Not only was my brazilian fast and easy (and smelled like chocolate!), but like other Unilocalers have said, there’s no double dipping, and the waxing room is clean and calming.
My pedicure was certainly a higher priced one than the easy walk in ones you can get basically anywhere in the city, but 2.5 weeks later, it’s still in great shape, with zero chips.
They have a special if you check in using Unilocal that gets you a $ 35 Brazilian (I checked in while getting my pedicure, after already having the Brazilian, and still got the discount), and right now they’re doing a special that will get you 6 Brazilians (in a period of 9 months) for $ 150. I’m pretty sure that’s the price of two Brazlians just about anywhere else on the planet (and sometimes only one, depending where on the planet you are), and it’s well worth the price.
