Don’t come here looking for garden supplies because they don’t sell them, despite the name. A great local hardware store that sells just about everything you need, hardware related. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. $ 10 credit card minimum.

Friendly, affordable, helpful and straight talking staff. Decent variety of things on offer — much more than you would expect from a shop this size. I hope that locally owned businesses like this never go out of business.

I stopped by to make a simple copy of a key. They sre locatrd by a construction site so getting there feels like a dangerous journey on its own. Granted that it wasn’t the store’s fault that construction was happening, here were all the other problems: 1. Longest lines ever. Who knew that a hardware store on 10th Ave would have a line of a dozen gross men in dire need of a shower and etiquette class 2. The guy making a copy of my key and told me it was $ 2 but when I got to the register, they charged me $ 3.45. W.t.f. why? I asked and the cashier rambled on about the different metallic compositions of keys. Are you kidding me ugh. Stfu please you lying cheating dirt bags! 3. The key did NOT work. I’ve made several copies of the same key at a different place an Avenue over and it worked perfectly fine. I could not believe the key didn’t work and hated that I had to go back to the dungeon of hell. 4. The key guy asked me what happened when I returned. I said key doesn’t work. He shaves some pieces of the key and returns it to me saying«OK some more stuff came off. If it doesn’t work again I will be seeing you back in 5 mins.» I don’t freaking have time for this!!! I can’t be going back and forth multiple times to compensate for their incompetence! 5. I come back to try the key, it doesn’t work. Ughhhhh. But by this time I really had to go to work and didn’t have time to go back to the hardware store. 6. After work I stop by but what do you know. They freaking close at 5pm!!! Don’t most people get out of work at 5? How do we get here by 5! I hate this place for wasting my money and time. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

Excellent old-time hardware store. Bob knows hardware, has great suggestions and ideas, and is a nice nice guy. Once I needed some brass screws; he turned me loose on my own with a bucket of screws and a magnet so I could distinguish solid brass from plated steel. A tube of caulk that wouldn’t harden — no problem, he was aware of the manufacturer’s problem and replaced the tube. He stocks stuff I didn’t find at Home Depot, like a small can of SAE20 machine oil. In sum: I highly recommend Garden Hardware.

In response to Travis’ comments, the store has moved from it’s 8th Ave location to it’s new spot on 10th Ave. It is still located between 48th Street &49th Street. The new location is the same store, with the same name and the same owners. The new address is 70110TH Ave.

This is a serious hardware store. If you need a part, many stores will have one size and this one will have a full range. They have quality things and if you ask they will give great advice. It’s a small business with integrity, less confusing, more convenient and much quicker to get in and out than the big chain stores. They have very fair prices and a surprising number of things for a neighborhood store.

Garden Hardware and Supply specializes in supplying hardware to theater production companies on Broadway, but my roommate and I have found the staff to be the most reliable and knowledgeable in Hell’s Kitchen. When we canvassed the neighborhood looking for someone to install a deadbolt, and everyone else wanted to charge us $ 150, the owner quickly told us how«any idiot» could do the same job themselves for $ 10 in supplies. They’ve consistently been helpful, honest, and reliable. People in Hell’s Kitchen should go here for advice, even if it’s a little pricier than the Home Depot down in Chelsea — only downside is they’re closed on weekends.
