Crisp egg rolls? NOT — dripping with oil! Cold noodles with peanut sauce. NOT — glue ball with some kind of peanut-ty soy sauce. Portions of meat: Undersized — and with shreds of meat or chicken! Steamed diet dishes delivered in a puddle of water Willingness to adjust menu items: Non-existent! And be prepared for an infusion of salt. Hearty appetite!!!

These guys have a semi-monopoly on kosher Chinese food on the heavily Jewish Upper West Side and they act like it. Dishes are thin on meat and chicken and loaded with overcooked veggies and cornstarch. Lo Mein and fried rice are acceptable for those who never really had genuine Chinese cooking. Delivery is sluggish and inquiries about delivery are rebuffed rudely. Skip this place!

I have been taking out from Gan Asia since it opened up I don’t know how many years ago when I used to live on the UWS. Full disclosure, I am a vegetarian so my go to dish is the tofu pad thai and it is awesome and delicious. But I also eat steamed veggies and rice and eggrolls. They are quick and friendly and deliver too so I recommend them when you are in the mood.

Worst/most expensive Chinese food I’ve ever had hands down. $ 20 for an inedible general tso? Lol

Kosher pigs in a blanket — in egg roll shells — is the most genius and delicious appetizer on the Upper West Side Also highly recommended — Sesame Chicken /Cold Sesame Boodles /Hot Wings And it’s kosher — so the meats are clean and tasty. Can’t say the same for many other Chinese restaurants

Really skimp on the meat. A few tiny scattered pieces of meat mixed in with a tonne of vegetables. What a rip-off.

Is there a zero stars option? I unfortunately wanted to order from Asia Kan, however my dumbass called this number. $ 18.99 for basic chicken dishes? What? The dumplings were ATROCIOUS, literally not edible, and the amount of grease from these dishes is making me feel like I’m breaking out already. Gag yuck erlack ew bleh

1:30PM, I place an order online 2:45PM, No food has arrived so I call the restaurant. They tell me their fax machine was out of paper and they never saw my order. They’re going to deliver it ASAP 3:00PM, I receive a call back. Apparently my order doesn’t meet their minimum(online system let me order it as delivery anyhow) and they tell me if I want the food I need to spend more money. 3:15PM, they call me back again and tell me they will deliver. I upgraded from 1-Star to 3-Star for this, at least they figured out how ridiculous this was

Keeping kosher is not synonymous with having all of your taste buds removed. I got in a huge argument with my boyfriend because I took one look at the décor and the«sushi» and I immediately knew I didn’t want to eat here. He told me to stop assuming all kosher food is terrible and to embrace the joys of cheap, greasy Chinese. Yeah, I won that argument. Not cheap. Not even really edible. I really pity anyone who thinks this is good Asian food.

Tonight was my first time ordering from this restaurant. Our four main dishes were outrageously expensive and inedible. Vegetables were soggy, each dish tasted and looked the same, like mush. I called and said the food was not acceptable, not expecting a discount, just to voice my complaint. The response was«well, sir, this is the way our food is.» Steer clear of Gan Asia.

We’ve been ordering from here a lot more this past year and find it quite good. The quality and variety of dishes, the speed of delivery, and the very nice man on the phone(the owner?) make it a pleasant experience. «Large» orders are enough to have plentiful leftovers, too! Kosher, too.

I wonder how many other Unilocalers have experienced this phenomenon — you start writing your review for Unilocal even before you’ve tried the food? And you presume based on the décor and the menu and maybe some glowing recommendations that the food is going to be great and you just know that the restaurant is getting at least four or maybe even five stars in your imaginary review? This explains perfectly what was going through my mind when I ordered food at Gan Asia. I just presumed that the food would be great — a small, hole in the wall, glatt kosher Chinese/Thai place on the Upper West Side. You know, the kind of place Guy Fieri can’t resist getting his paws on … Talk about under-whelming! I ordered a pint of Tom Yum soup and chicken satay — I was in the mood for kosher Thai, not so much Chinese — and the food was just, well, meh. The soup did not taste Thai at all — no galanga, no kaffir lime, just kind of a tomato soup with Asian vegetables. And the satay — well, honestly I did not think you could screw up satay. Well, you can. You can put two, warm chicken spears on sticks in a bag with an almost solid peanut«sauce» and a very diluted pineapple«sauce»(think juice). Terribly disappointing :(

Wow. Can’t get any worse. I called in an order of a few things and cost was $ 75. I almost had a heart attack but decided to go ahead with it because I had people here and we were starving. I had $ 130 available on my credit card. The guy calls me a half hour later saying my card was declined. I told him: impossible. I called credit card company and they said Gan Asia charged my card, transaction was approved and went through, and they keep charging it but now not enough available credit since he charged it already. I called back and told him. He said he would check into it. No response. Called back in another half hour, and told him that I paid for my food, so now I don’t have enough to order somewhere else. He said he was very busy and that he will get to it when he gets a chance. Haha! Wow. Called again and he abruptly told me he was too busy to fool with that right now. Never received food. Now I have to go in there with a statement, according to them, proving that they charged me, so I can get a refund. Have no idea how the food is. But it cannot be good enough to deal with these idiots. AVOID!

I tried the sesame chicken(white meat), and the wonton soup the other day. The guy behind the counter had great manors and was very pleasant. The food was made fairly quickly(fast food after all). I thought the wonton soup could have used some more salt, but that’s a personal preference. The chicken had a little too much breading to it. Usually when I order all white meat and pay extra for it, there’s a better meat to breading ratio. Going to check out the lo-mein or something next time Take out only.

This is such a love-hate kind of place. The Chinese food tastes great and is usually hot and fresh. The classics(sesame chicken, lemon chicken, kung po beef) are consistently yummy. It’s a little pricey because of the glatt factor, but at least you don’t have to worry about hyrax in your egg rolls(which are delicious but have arrived really greasy on at least one occasion, as in two paper towels’ worth of greasy. Ick.) I haven’t tried their sashimi or pieces of sushi, but I definitely found their«special rolls» to be really un-special, barely a step above supermarket maki.(Plus, sushi should probably never travel in the same warm delivery bag as hot chinese… no?)

I just don’t know how one can morally justify charging $ 10 bucks for a small order of greasy takeout lo mein. What, it’s kosher? … I don’t care. That’s just wrong.
