Came in for a late breakfast on a Tuesday. No wait, seated immediately. Wait staff was great, friendly, chatty, checked on us frequently. My picky daughter had an egg wrap with whole wheat tortilla and 2 egg whites, chicken sausage, avocado, cheddar and salsa. She loved it.(Anyway, what the hell is the difference between a breakfast burrito and an egg wrap?!) I had the pastrami hash. GETTHEPASTRAMIHASH. Eggs are farm fresh, from upstate. Cooked sunny side up perfectly so that when you break the yolk, it drips over the pastrami + potato hash that it covers. Pastrami is actually very good. Some scallions for garnish help to balance the flavor. It’s really really delicious. I would eat this every day if my cholesterol could handle it(it can’t). Wheat toast is gluten-free.

Was soooo tempted to get the chicken & waffles, but I held back. Wasn’t a cheat day for me and I was going on vacation the next week and it required wearing a bikini, so yeah. I’ll probably be back to try that in the winter, where every day is my cheat day. Anyway, came here with a friend for brunch one weekend. The wait was about 15 – 20 minutes long, which wasn’t too bad. I don’t think they take reservations, so it’s best to show up earlier if you’re going for brunch. Our waiter was very attentive. She took our order immediately and came back periodically to check on us. I ordered the Egg White Scramble and an iced coffee. It was pretty, freakin’ delicious. I really enjoyed the blueberry butter as well. It’s a nice surprise that I didn’t anticipate. Potatoes were also good, but they were a bit crunchy for me. Overall, I had a great experience. I can’t wait to come back and try the chicken & waffles next time!

I always forget how gluten-free-friendly NYC is, and Friedman’s was just the best!!! Went for breakfast, sat at the bar, had incredible cold brew coffee and the pastrami hash. Such a treat to get delicious, gluten-free toast with my meal. And the hash… holy cow! Even though it was crazy busy, the staff was really helpful and attentive. I was so impressed all around by this place!

I am always fascinated by finding decent dining options in close proximity to Penn Station/Madison Square Garden. My top choice is the stellar Stella 34 at Macy’s, but you can’t go wrong with Keen’s, The Tick-Tock Diner, Bro J’s, visiting K-town for Korean cuisine, or, apparently, Friedman’s.(That list really runs the gamut!) In the last year and a half, I stopped being able to digest gluten. Every once in a while, I’ll treat myself to something really good or eat it if that’s all that’s available to me and I don’t want to be a nuisance to a host, but I’ve otherwise cut it out of my diet completely. My friend Melissa from high school(who also is gluten-free) recommended we go to Friedman’s for brunch last weekend. While there was a bit of a wait for the table, we shared some fun girl-talk and the menu was chock-full of options for us. The food was delicious and healthy, and the atmosphere was modern with post and beam woodwork. I am sure I will return – there is something for everybody here!

Can be a bit hard to find because the exterior blends well with the building. Look for white letters at the top. The food is excellent. I had avocado toast, and the avocado was fresh and flavorful. The overall flavors blended well together, and the eggs were done to perfection. The service can be a bit slow, but still the wait staff was very professional. Would definitely go again.

My boyfriend and I went on a Friday evening– around 6PM and got seated almost immediately. Starting off– the décor was super cute! Half of it was dimly lit while the other half was a room that was almost all white. We got seated in the«white deli looking half». There were parties sitting at almost every other table around us but the noise level was still only moderate. The menu was pretty concise and I went with the fried chicken & waffles and my boyfriend went with the lamb burger– medium rare. First, the fried chicken and waffle: the waffle was so rich and buttery and that’s what they must refer to as crack. It could’ve been a dish all on its own! The fried chicken was crispy but not too oily and tasted freshly made. The syrup with the hint of Tabasco was the cherry on top. It added yet another kick of flavor on top of everything else. Secondly, the lamb burger: we got it medium rare and it was cooked just right! It was oozing with juices from the lamb and sauce gave it a nice hint of spice and flavor. The only down side to the burger was that it was a little small in size and disappeared too quickly into our stomachs. (Minus 1 star for the fact that our waiter was too attentive. He kept arriving while we were ugly face mid bite but thank you for the great service; also, the food takes quite some time to be ready so be prepared to wait a bit)!

We decided on our final day in NYC to forgo our complimentary buffet hotel breakfast for a delivered breakfast from the much hyped FRIEDMAN’S. We ordered already, and should be here at 9:00am What we ordered: of course, hot coffee & fresh squeezed orange juice. My Bff ordered their signature dish, the Fried Chicken & Waffles with Tabasco inspired maple syrup with a side of crispy apple wood bacon. I ordered the Fluffy Blueberry Pancakes with Marscapone with blueberries, blackberries & strawberries on top with 2 sunny side up eggs. We both are sharing the Avocado Toast. Hope they arrive soon… We are STARVING!!! Menu is huge. Wish we were staying longer. Update… If you ever get a chance, TRYTHISPLACE!!! It was LEGIT. If I knew it was this good I would have probably gone here several times during the week to try other things on the menu!

Got here at 10:40am on a Friday for brunch, I don’t mind waiting for great food, only this wasn’t the case. They had me seated at the bar by 11 but didn’t take my order or bring water until 11:20 People that were seated after me had their orders taken and their food brought out before me so I was just frustrated by that point. I was already on Unilocal looking for other nearby brunch options but the waiter came by to finally ask me what I wanted so I figured I’d just give them a shot. I ordered the egg white scramble($ 14) and fresh squeezed oj($ 5) the toast that came with it was probably the tastiest thing on the plate. Everything was very bland and the egg to veggie ratio was very small, there was hardly any egg. No one during that time asked me how it was or anything. I just won’t be back.

«There’s no really nice, good places to go in the area.» It’s a common phrase said at work. Well, Friedman’s is no exception to this rule. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a really nice place. The ambiance is lovely. That’s it. As a surprise, I snagged some Billy Joel tickets. I had passed by Friedman’s a bunch of times and it’s been on my list of places to check out in the work area. I mean it looks really nice and fancy! So we went sans reservation. I expected a wait and the ~30 minutes quoted to us was fine. It was just before 7pm but MSG was right across the street and surely, we could be in and seated by 8:30. After about 20 minutes, I asked about timing. Turnover was apparently slow. Anyway, it was about 35 minutes but that’s still okay. I was a little stressed because the ticket said 8 but hey, 8:30 was still doable. It’s here that everything took a turn for the horrible. Tracking down our waiter was like a treasure hunt. When we finally ordered, we just got an entrée and waited. And waited. And waited. During this time, the couple that came in 10 minutes later(and ordered after us) at the next table got their appetizer and entrée. That’s a big red flag. During this time, our waiter was playing hide and seek and doing a really good job because we couldn’t find him anywhere. No one came by to tell us there was a delay or that the fried chicken I ordered takes longer to cook(and that was never noted on the menu or said at order). I know they get a lot of the MSG crowd, so something like discussing wait/cook times should be standard. Major fail. After nearly 45 minutes of waiting(I timed it), we finally got our meals. I want to say it was worth the wait but it was not. I’ve seen people rave about the chicken with waffles. I don’t know if this is a novelty many people haven’t had before but it was just barely average. I’ve had some really good fried chicken in my life(even at a couple places in NYC), and this wasn’t it. The waffles were fine. The highlight was the butter mixed with the sauce. It salvaged the dish. But any time you rely on condiments to salvage your dish, you’re doing it wrong. My husband hated his food. I forgot what he had but it certainly wasn’t memorable. Needless to say, we tracked down a bus boy for the bill and paid via another bus boy, while our waiter auditioned for«Where’s Waldo»? What was supposed to be a nice evening experience was half ruined by this excuse of a restaurant. Barely average food and less than competent service? No way will I be recommending it to anyone in the area. It’s too expensive for too poor of an experience, and even at half the price, it wouldn’t be worth it.

Came here for brunch on Sunday and it completely exceeded my expectations. They told us the wait would be about 20 minutes(it was 10:30 am) but the wait was much faster and we only waited about 10 – 15 minutes. I ordered the pulled pork benedict which tasted amazing. The service was very fast and even the side salad the benedict brings was delicious. I really want to go back to try their chicken and waffled because it was clearly a big thing in all the tables around us. So happy I came and totally recommend!

Honestly not impressed. While the service is great and the ambience is cute, the food just didn’t blow me away. The herbed fries came out first(after 15 – 20 minutes) and while the seasoning was good, the fries themselves were a little soggy. Next we had the chilaquiles without chicken which was mildly spicy and had a nice texture. I had the pancakes which came out with pineapple and mascarpone cream cheese(I think the topping changes every day). While the topping was perfectly sweet, the pancakes themselves weren’t as fluffy or tasty as I hoped.

We had: Avocado toast with eggs — extremely good Coffee — very good The service is quick without making you feel rushed. The bathrooms are also very clean.

4.5 for the overall brunch experience, but had to round up to a 5 for the excellent customer service. Typically speaking, midtown is really not a happenin brunch spot. Friedmans, however, is the exception to this rule and it is totally worth your while. Don’t get me wrong, you will wait for a while. Depending on the time of day and size of your party, expect to wait between 45 – 90 min after you put your name in. After putting our name in we waited for just over an hour(as estimated) for our party of 4 to be seated. Once inside, we were seated in the middle of the room which had a bit of a breeze due to the door constantly opening and closing, but it certainly didn’t damper our time. Our server was really pleasant and never once did we feel rushed despite the place being absolutely mobbed. My friend and I started off with some bloody marys which were very yummy. Just enough of a kick to them. The boys got beers which they also seemed happy with. I got the hangar steak special which was basically huevos rancheros on steroids. So freaking good. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the portion size was generous. My friend and the hubby got the chilaquiles which they loved. Her bf got the pulled pork benedict and he said it was great. The icing on the cake to an already great experience here came to the customer service. When one of the chilaquiles came out, there was a small hair on the plate off to the side. Not on the food. My fiancé went to go brush it off and was not going to make a stink about it. However, when the employee that delivered the dish saw this, she profusely apologized and said she would come back with a fresh entrée. After a short while, she did. Not only that, but when the check was delivered, the meal was comped off the check. Mind you… we did not make a stink, but the employees were mortified to the point that they still comped us the meal. True customer service. It’s little touches like this that will set Friedman’s apart from your typical run of the mill NYC brunch spot. And who said New Yorkers are are overly abrasive and rude?! Friedman’s is strong evidence to the contrary.

There is such a hype about Friedman’s, so I was really excited to try it out for breakfast. We had the food delivered(vs. dine-in), so maybe that’s why my experience was a bit off, but I was quite disappointed by the quality and the taste of the food. I was craving something on the sweeter side, so got the Pancakes($ 14). There were three stacks of pancakes topped with strawberry, blackberries, and blueberries. The pancakes were a bit on the dry side, and there wasn’t enough maple syrup on the side. What really ticked me off was that one of the pancakes was completely raw… as in, I could taste the watery batter because it wasn’t fully cooked. Yikes. I also had a fruit bowl($ 9) on the side. I was expecting different assortment of berries, but all I got were slices of orange and grapefruits. They really should re-name the dish as «Citrus Bowl» given the lack of variety in fruits.

I came here at 11:45 on a Wednesday for lunch, and definitely arrived right before the lunch rush began. We were seated immediately but warned that the kitchen had just switched from serving breakfast to lunch so it might be a bit slow, but we didn’t notice any delay at all. I loved the atmosphere and the food was good as well. I ordered the veggie bowl which came with a huge serving of quinoa(or brown rice, if you choose), and the brussels sprouts on the side. I also ordered the rosemary fries, which were delicious. The fries were my favorite part of the meal! There were quite a few tempting options on the menu, so this is definitely a spot I’ll return to.

As self-proclaimed brunch queen, I have had my fair share of long wait times at popular brunch places, both at home in the Bay Area and here in NYC. Friedman’s had a record wait time of an hour and a half for our party of three, and if I am being honest, the food wasn’t worth the long wait. The restaurant is a bit disjointed at the moment as it seems to have overtaken the neighboring café or deli that has gone out of business and is using the space for additional seating. The vibe of this additional seating area is not as nice as the vibe and décor of the original restaurant seating area, and I do hope they are going to transform that space somehow. However, when you’re starving on a Saturday early afternoon and you’ve been waiting what seems like forever for food, you’ll happily sit on the floor if it means you can finally get some food in your stomach. When we were finally seated, I ordered the nova benny, which is essentially an eggs Benedict that comes on top of a potato hash and salmon instead of the English muffin. The nova benny was tasty and I gobbled it up in about 5 minutes because of how hungry I was, but it wasn’t the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had. However I would recommend it as it was tasty and it is one of the dishes Friedman’s is known for. I ordered a strawberry bellini as a drink, and I was unimpressed with this drink. It was not sweet and had weird textural issues as the drink kept separating, and it wasn’t smooth in consistency. I say pass on the bellinis. Overall, Friedman’s is an ok brunch place, and I would want to come back again if it didn’t have such a long wait time.

My former boss is taking a business trip from Beijing so I’m taking her to the famous Friedman’s for a quick breakfast before her departure. We came in around 845-ish, so there was no line at all. By the time we started eating, the line has been formed already. We shared everything, the pulled pork sandwich, as well as the chicken and waffle. Gave full credit for the sandwich — both of us liked the poached egg on top, with egg yolk half-melting. The pork meat was very juicy while the vegetable side was fresh and tasty. On the other side, the chicken waffle was slightly drier than I thought that we did not quite enjoy its over-crispness. A solid four-star level brunch in midtown area, in order to win the fifth-star, Friedman’s gotta bring something more unique.

If you’re wanting to brunch at Friedman’s, expect to wait; but once you’re seated you’re in for a real treat. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? So my party of four strolled into Friedman’s on a Saturday well aware that we could be in for a wait but hoping for the best. A forty-five minute stated wait quickly became an hour and fifteen minutes, and we were all admittedly antsy if not a bit deflated as the time ticked on. It would be difficult to turn the tide here, but once we were seated our server couldn’t have been any more lovely and the atmosphere couldn’t have been anymore quaint. You’ll wait at Friedman’s, but it really is worth it. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I love breakfast hash — absolutely love it, so it won’t come as a surprise that I jumped at the opportunity to get my paws on some pastrami hash. Worried that I might be looking at $ 20+ on account of the price of pastrami throughout New York, I was pleased that my(sizable, just look at that pic) dish came to only $ 17.00. Still a bit pricey, but valuable nonetheless. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Wow. This really was excellent. The finely chopped potatoes(proper hash versus the chunks you so commonly see these days) and proportionate amount of pastrami came together brilliantly, and the two fried eggs were quickly mixed into the whole concoction to turn it into a truly beautifully balanced dish. The peripherals were excellent as well, with buttery wheat toast, blueberry butter, and a local hot sauce that was excellent. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I want to give five stars here, but an hour and twenty minute wait at a spot that doesn’t take reservations is a really tough sell. I don’t quite understand why that’s the case, but to fix that aspect of Friedman’s would make this a five star establishment based on their pastrami hash. No Star Granted.

This place was an easy walk from our hotel in the Theater District and the weather wasn’t bad so we were able to wait outside for a table. If it was really cold out we probably wouldn’t have waited as there isn’t really anywhere inside to stand. The hostess was super nice for how busy she was and she gave us a pretty accurate wait time. She even kept me updated on how many people were in front of us. I really like that they offer both sparkling and plain water. I LOVE sparkling water so it was a nice surprise to have some. I ordered the Chilaquiles and the serving size was HUGE. The flavor was really good and the chicken tasted really fresh. However, the tomatillo sauce was way too plentiful. The other ingredients were drowned in it and every bite was overpowered by all of the sauce. It was almost like a soup. The fried tortillas were also very soggy almost immediately after I got my food. Overall, the flavor was good but it was so much tomatillo I don’t think I would order this dish again. My fiancé on the other hand, had a life changing brunch. He had the pulled pork benedict and RAVED about it. The pork and cornbread go together so well and the eggs just topped it all off. He really loved it. The Sake Bloody Mary was pretty good as well. Could have had a little more spice but over all it was pretty tasty. We really enjoyed watching the gentleman make drinks behind the bar. He was so careful and put each lime on the rim with tongs. This isn’t something you see often. He was very meticulous with how each drink was presented. I like what this place stands for and I’m happy my fiancé had a wonderful meal. Next time, I’m going to try something else though.
