Typical hole in the wall joint. Walk in, several old chinese ladies making the dough and stuffing. They keep it simple here, a classic formula: pork buns, pork dumplings, and tea. You don’t need anything else. 5 for $ 1 for dumplings, price can’t be beat. Great to just pop in real quick.

This is the dumpling house of my childhood. I’m so glad that it’s still here, same location, same delicious juicy dumplings and buns. There is a reason why it’s still here. The owners are from Northern China, where all things doughy is their specialty. Love their pot stickers and pan fried pork buns. I usually get it to go and binge at home(or sneak some in the car) but if u can’t wait til u get home there is limited seating. Not the most comfortable, but you’re not there for the ambiance are you?

Didn’t like anything when I came here. Dumpling was doughy, fried chicken was over fried and soup was way too peppery. This place could have changed since I came here late last year but when I left this place, I was still hungry and wanted to undo the experience. Atmosphere is very cute, I suppose that fooled me. I guess that goes to say, never judge a book by its cover, especially if the book looks very welcoming.

Curry chicken crispy pancake $ 3.50 and 4 peices of fried dumpling for $ 1. Love this place, it’s so cheap and so good. Will definitely be coming back more often

Never again! This place is a joke. My wife and I went in there for dinner and there was a huge party of black guys, maybe about 10, taking up all the tables. They were done eating, and just hanging out. They were yelling so loud and cursing constantly. Everyone in the line was complaining to the staff, but they just sat there and did nothing. There were people waiting to pay and eat and the staff did nothing! This was probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my life. Funny thing is that we always go to prosperity on Eldridge. We are walking there right now.

Not by far the most amazing dumplings, but also pretty far from being bad. Their pan fried pork dumplings are stuffed with a healthy dose of pork and cabbage — I prefer pork and chive stuffing as it creates a less bland flavor… again this is just my personal opinion. In comparison to fast food Chinese dumplings, these are heaven sent — but they can’t touch Fu Zhou or Prosperity… I think Vanessa’s Dumplings might even win on stuffing and variety alone(and trust me, I think Vanessa’s is good — but not great). This place also has some other things I’d like to come back and try like their squid balls which look pretty damn fantastic and despite being a pretty small space they do have small tables, chairs and a few stools up front facing the window. Seating here becomes communal during peak hours. Fried Dumpling on Allen gets 4 stars from me on account of being cheap, tasty, friendly service(make sure you order loudly and clearly since English is not their first language) and they’re conveniently located in a part of town that is conducive to booze-induced munchie cravings :).

Steph: «Can we go get dumplings?» Me: «Fine.. . «Steph: «I HAVENEEDS.» You get 4 dumplings for only a $ 1. We have another crazy dumpling place a few blocks over but for some reason there’s a 60% chance on any given day it will give me the worst stomach ache ever. I’m leery towards cheap Asian places. But I asked if I could try a dumpling for a quarter and happily received one for free! lol. It was ok. I burnt my tongue on it because I wanted to shove it in my mouth and waddle over to the Unilocal Event across the street. The dough is kind of thicker than normal and the meat a little lacking in flavor. But worth its money. They have something on their wall menu that closely resembles Takoyaki balls. I am intrigued. I love Takoyaki.

This place seems a little too far to the north. These three or four dish, dumpling and eight seat establishments are relatively popular in Chinatown, but Fried Dumpling is just a block from Delancey. It might as well be in the East Village, where dinner options typically do not cost a dollar. Stopping here for a bite before Friday drinks recently, I wondered if the cook wound up here after being squeezed out of Chinatown’s more traditional streets. The dumplings here, especially the guotie or potstickers, are just not up to par. The jiaozi pir — the skin of the dumpling — is tough and chewy, while covered in the overly thick oil of a too-deep fry. Unsurprisingly, the meat is dry, sealed away from any juice from the dish. Stick to the regular or vegetarian dumplings, which are steamed, and a bit harder to screw up. Confusingly, the steamed dumplings only come in an order of 10 for $ 3, while the fried ones are available at five for a buck. Obviously the price point is fine, but at that qualify they no longer really qualify as a snack. What saves this place from being a total trasher are the noodles. The lo mien is stir fried to order and much lighter than expected. The cabbage has the crunch that comes from only a minute or two in the wok. It’s totally acceptable, perhaps even a notch or two better than your corner takeout joint. And it’s enough to raise this place above a failing grade, anyone sober enough should head down to similar but far superior options a mile or so to the south.

This is only on their Frozen Boiled Pork Dumplings. I don’t like people who write 4 – 5 star reviews saying ‘Oh this place is the BEST!!! after a night out of drinking!!’. I mean what doesn’t taste good after drinking? Even your SISTER tastes fabulous after a drunken night out! lol Compared to Prosperity and Panda, the innards are TINY and the coating or dough is very thin so the innards broke out after I boiled them at home. Prices are cheap as always in Chinatown and 50 frozen dumplings were a dollar cheaper…$ 8 compared to $ 9 in Prosperity and Panda. I give 4 stars for their service. Although their English communication skills was not very good, they didn’t get impatient or mad and were pretty friendly. They also thanked me multiple times for stopping by. Hopefully I get to return and try some of their other items but it definitely wouldn’t be the dumplings. For dumplings, stick to Prosperity for your number one choice and Panda for your second choice. However, I want to give them props for inspection grade A which is rare for Chinatown eateries. CASH-ONLY

Omg. As soon I walked into this place, I started making subtle comparisons to Prosperrity Dumplings. Then, I dropped it all. My 4 friends and I stopped by here for a quick snack after drinking this past Friday night and we dropped so much money it was unbelievable. I am talking a whopping twelve Washingtons. =) Too bad I do not speak any Chinese for I really wanted to order with finesse. Perhaps, next time.

For what it’s worth this place has a good standing with me. The food is unbelievably inexpensive(no seriously you can get 4 fried dumplings for 1 dollar!). And that doesn’t take away to quality of it either. I got lo Mein for the first time at this place and it was a huge serving size and all I had to pay was $ 2.25! Forget the Ramon soup if you’re on a budge this is the place to be! I couldn’t even eat the whole plate it was just too much and that’s the good part! In this economy it’s definitely a win win situation when you find a place like this that serves good food with a more than reasonable price. It would have been a five but they’re always things about a place that makes it imperfect and that’s okay because nothing’s perfect. I will be heading back soon for some more noodles!

Cheapest damn food in the world! I tried the fried dumplings, and the soup dumplings. I have had better dumplings, but NEVER this cheap. To top off your dumplings, try their red, oily, floating peanut-crushed-looking-stuff sauce in the little plastic tub on the table. It’s spicy, it’s confusing to the taste buds, and it’s addicting.

After stumbling upon the Mosco St. location, I was craving for more fried dumplings 2 days later. I had heard from a friend that this place is just as good. Negative. This location is way outside of Chinatown. The store is larger than it’s counterpart and actually has tables with chairs. I attempted to order fried pork buns but they were sold out so I just went with fried dumplings again. Then I noticed something, the fried dumplings were FOUR for one dollar. Instead of five, like the one in Chinatown. Can someone verify this? Four dumplings for a dollar still isn’t too bad. I opened the styrofoam box and took my first bite. Disappoint. ‘Skin’ was too thick. They barely had a crunch, it was more chewy than anything. The filling tasted fine. Go to the Chinatown store!

Funny thing is that I used to come here a lot and get dumplings for take out when my father would take me to visit grandma’s. Back then i never knew about Vanessa’s dumplings. Boy what a HUGE difference it is. not only are the dumplings not crisp. The wrap rips really easily. all the juice falls out which takes away the flavor of the meat. I also hate how there’s not enough meat and the wrap is too big for the filling. Sticking to Vanessa’s from now on!

The dumpling and bao prices increased from $ 1.00 to $ 1.25. They are still pretty good stuff but just a little more $. I brought a 2 dozen for the Unilocaler at White Rabbit Lounge(a short walk away) and they approved!

Hidden gem at it’s best! A one man operation in a tiny place with simple tables and chairs. But turning out some of the best pot stickers(fried dumplings), pork buns, and Asian noddle soups I have ever tasted. I stayed in the Hostel that’s right upstairs from this place and the cooking smell that would hit me right as I exited into the street would just make my mouth melt with craving every time. It’s cash only but who cares because the dumplings come 8 pcs for $ 1, pork buns are 3 pcs for $ 2, and beef(chunky) noddle soup $ 4. Caned soda are also a buck each. Just be careful while eating the soups here because he seasons them with whole pieces of star anise. It adds an other layer of good flavor but it’s no fun eating the actual seasoning(like a bay leave, good flavor but not good eats). Star anise is like a cross between cinnamon and liquorish. For you LES party people, I’m not sure what time this place closes but it would be a great after bar hopping munchies cure… ½ block south of Delancey on the right with red neon lights glowing on the window.

I do not know if this one is related to the other Fried Dumpling on Mosco Street. Either way, the quality of the ones here was much worse than that one. When we walked in, we noticed that the place was almost empty. All the other dumpling places in Chinatown we’d been to were very busy. At this one, they also cook the dumplings on a grill like the other Fried Dumpling. However, they are 4 for $ 1 instead of 5. The dumplings also tasted pretty bad. Something about the taste of them was off. We both noticed that the dumplings had a somewhat fishy taste to them. It was like they had been grilling fish on the grill and did not clean it before grilling the dumplings on it. We actually threw away one of the dumplings because of the off taste.

I came upon this place by accident. It was during the December Blizzard of 2010 and i was tired of walking around with cold, wet feet. I stopped in for a rest and a cup of soup. After reading previous reviews of their dumplings I decided to get that and a bowl of hot & sour soup. The soup was fantastic. The dumpling was gross. But for $ 2(for the whole meal) I’m not complaining. Maybe the dumpling was old or overcooked. It was chewy and the pork inside was rock hard. But I didn’t really care, I wanted the soup. And it delivered. There’s little seating, so it seems most people get their food to go. If you do want to sit down, learn to be friendly, you’ll most likely end up joining someone else at a table.

Hole in the wall, amazing dumpling heaven. This place was recommended to me by a friend whose ethnically-Chinese godmother knows Chinatown inside and out. Fried Dumpling Shan Dong is cheap too! Try 30 frozen dumplings of the most flavorful varieties for only $ 5/bag. I tried their pork and chives, pork and white cabbage and vegetarian dumplings. All delicious. The skin-just right, and the stuffings are generously and properly proportioned. Fried Dumpling sells more than just dumplings, and you can easily sit down in the small restaurant for a bite to eat. Their hot and sour soup looks and smells delicious, and if their dumplings are any indication, their food will be equally amazing.
