Many steak restaurants to choose from, so we chose this restaurant. I am so glad we did! I had the ribeye. I had a huge appetite, and they did not disappoint. My steak was yummy! I would definitely come back. Service was also fantastic.

What a horrible experience. Lousy food, crappy service. For one being in the industry to head to a 4 star restaurant and be this disappointed was a crime! My friend ordered a scotch and asked for a specific one and was served the wrong one. To continue the trend he ordered his steak black and blue only to receive it lukewarm and blue. When the waiter was called over and questioned why it was like this we were told they don’t have a grill to make it black. Why this wasn’t communicated is beyond me. The cottage fries were served as a cold greasy wade of potatoes. My pork chops were fatty and not in a good way. Parts of it was well done and the other raw. We didn’t even bother to mention that until after we receive the check. They did remove the steak from the bill but left us hungry before the theatre. What a sad pathetic experience!!! We should have realized when we walked in at 6pm there were three tables occupied in the theater district. I will never go back or recommend this establishment. BTW this is no longer their address. They are located on W. 46th Street. It was Monday April 25.

Came here with my girlfriend on a Saturday night before a Broadway show. Walk inside and give my name and I’m told my reservation is for 4, not 2. I let them know that it will just be me and my girlfriend, so 2 people. The hostess says again«It looks like the reservation was made for 4». Not really sure what the point of arguing this is as we were obviously just 2 people. Showed her my email confirmation which clearly says 2 people. Finally that gets that exchange over with and we are brought to our table.(Honestly, didn’t bother me too much at the time but in retrospect guess this was strike 1) Sit down at the table and immediately notice we don’t have any menus(no drink menu or dinner menu). As we sit and wait we watch 2 other couples get seated and immediately handed a menu. Try a few times(unsuccessfully) to flag down our waiter. Finally as he is bringing another table their menu I catch his attention and tell him we haven’t received a menu yet(Almost 20 minutes after we arrived). He apologized and said because he saw we had water that he assumed we already ordered. Not sure how a waiter doesn’t know what table he is responsible for but OK strike 2. We finally get a menu decide we won’t have enough time now for the usual appetizers and go straight to the main course — I got a Rib Eye and my girlfriend the Petite Filet. When the food finally comes my Rib Eye is delicious! However, my girlfriend’s steak had a very strange foul taste to it.(we both agreed and i tried a piece to confirm which I promptly had to discard). I flagged the waiter down again and told him the issue. His response was«We can cook it a little more». Not sure if he didn’t hear me or just didn’t want to hear me so I repeated«No, there is something strange about her steak, I think it’s a bad piece of meat». His response was«Oh, I’ll be right back». We then proceed to sit for another 15 minutes while he served all the other tables and completely ignored us. I ended up sharing my Rib Eye and we ate all the sides and he still didn’t come back and we have her bad steak just sitting on the table and we are almost done with all the other food. At this point I got up and found the manager who was very apologetic and did what any normal restaurant would do and removed the bad steak from the table and took it off the bill. We were offered complimentary drinks which we accepted. My dad recommended this place as he has been multiple times and enjoyed it. And he knows a lot about steakhouses and food. Not sure what happened that night. Never in my life have I had a waiter that doesn’t bring you a menu and then ignores you for 15 minutes after you tell him about something that wasn’t good.(it’s a small space so he was literally next to us the entire time serving other tables ignoring the issue we brought to his attention). As you can tell this was a huge strike 3 and for the first time in my life I left $ 0 as a tip. I’ve never done that before. The worst I’ve ever had to do is leave a 10% or 15% tip and that was only when I had received extremely poor service.

Great steak with crab. such great service. Best steak choice in NYC. Had an appetizer special of applewood smoked bacon that was almost like ribs. Amazing and thick.

Over the course of several delicious cocktails at nearby Pennsylvania 6, my crew began to expand. What started as 2 gentlemen meeting at the bar for a drink turned into a slightly rowdy faction of friends sipping libations tenaciously. Story of my life I suppose. It’s a gift and a curse. We randomly decided we wanted steak. Our first choice was Keen’s, but the Reservation Gods were not shining down upon us this particular evening. And so… Frankie & Johnnie’s it was. No real ambiance or décor happening here. Very blah in that department. I probably would not recommend this place for a romantic meal. Service, however, was excellent. We shared quite a few options, ranging from a porterhouse for 2, a filet mignon with crab meat, and a ribeye. Steaks were all well cooked and delicious. Relatively empty for a Saturday night, but we all left satisfied and happy. So, I suppose the moral of the story is that Frankie & Johnnie’s is THE place to go if you spontaneously decide to get wasted at Pennsylvania 6 and then suddenly acquire an entourage that requires steak in their bellies.

Service was just not up to standard, had the double porter house it was fine but not worth $ 100, bread was stale, place was not busy sat at 9pm. There are better places in the city.

Had the steak and shrimp scampi. Ordered medium. It came well done. The shrimp was not flavorful at all. And the steak was hard to chew and not the quality you would expect from a place in this price range. Wouldn’t eat here again. Wouldn’t recommend.

If you’re not hungry hold off until you are. All it takes is one steak and one side. Being a bit of a connoisseur of steak I can confidently say the sirloin and filet my wife and I had are the best steaks we’ve ever had — both were very thick cuts of very quality meat, and cooked to our medium preferred perfection. The wait staff was very friendly. This is a fine dining experience and priced accordingly, but it’s one I’d definitely come back to. The only thing I wish we could have experienced is the old location and its history. They literally just moved a few weeks ago. But I’m sure this location will gain the same great reputation we heard about that brought us here.

This was my second time here but the last time was a long time ago. I was staying in the Fairfield Inn right across the street so why not give it a shot. I read some other reviews here and many pointed out poor service and not that great of an experience. So first off, I was not using my own money. I was on a corporate expense account so let’s put that into the mix. So we had 2 ladies and myself here and we did the Porterhouse for 2 and a Lamb Loin cooked«Pittsburgh» style. Overall, both where outstanding and there was more than enough food for the 3 of us. Like I said 2 were ladies so if we’d had been 3 men maye we’d have wanted more. The Porterhouse was frankly as good as Peter Luger’s in my opinion and the lamb was outstanding. I don’t hand out 5’s very often and I wasn’t expecting to this time, but you know I had a great experience. The place wasn’t too busy and our waiter was great. Not too much attention but plenty of it. For this I just cannot give them less than 5 stars.

Has anyone had their waiter write the amount of tips on your bill for a party less than 6 before you even see it? Not sure if that is the norm, but that is what happened to my family and I when we went for dinner at F&J. We ordered from the winter 2016 restaurant week menu, and the food and service was okay. We waited a while for each of our dishes to come out and my filet mignon had a burnt outer layer. I had to slice out the edges before eating each bite. For a steakhouse, their shrimp tasted better(surf and turf dish). Their appetizer and dessert was decent(crab cake, bread pudding). I would not recommend or return back to F&J.

That time when I spent $ 300 on the company dime for lunch because my boss was leaving. Ooops. While it makes for a funny story in the office, due to a miscommunication the waitstaff had ordered two Hot and Cold Seafood platters after telling them I wanted one order to share for the table,(as we each ordered our own individual entrees). The food overall was very good in general and the only miss was the fries which was greasy and bland. The inside joke was if I asked for ketchup for the table, would they give us 8 bottles?

Mediocre Restaurant with astronomical prices. There are many better options in the City. Manager is a cold fish, rude and upset with life because his business is almost basically empty, they cannot possibly make it, lacking quality, originality, boring food in a City where there are great choices. Beware of the checks, they try to use every opportunity to take advantage of you! Think twice before getting into such low class place, not to compare with the other location in Westchester County, different ownership, just misleading the public.

We were here last night for dinner with my sister in law and her boyfriend. I have been to this place several times before I became an active Unilocaler. This is an old time NYC steak house and they serve nice steaks for expensive, but not astronomical prices. They have a few side dishes like over cooked and scorched broccoli, tired mushrooms mixed with what look like stewed onions and several different styles of potatoes. None of us took a chance on the oyster or clam appetizers. We did have a few tasteless salads. For me, the problem with this place is it’s tired and past. I just don’t like the vibe there. Why did I go? You ask? My sister in law is in love with the place. She visits from Florida and won’t try anywhere else. I am going to put my foot down next time. Anyway, back to the steaks. My wife had the rib eye and sister in law shared the T bone with her boyfriend. Both steaks were raved about by those who ate them. I had the poached salmon, my way to protest. It was just OK. We are going out with them again this evening. I don’t know what they have planned. I hope it’s not another adventure in unadventurous eating.

Porterhouse for 3 is the choice. Share it with one person. Ask for the tidbits appetizer. Service is exceptional.

The service was wonderful. The food, Sea Bass, Potatoes Au Gratin, Creamed Spinach, Salmon, just everything was delicious! The atmosphere was casual, yet classy. The server was very attentive to our needs. This was the perfect way to end a wonderful trip!!!

My wife and I had a very fine meal at Frankie & Johnnie’s on 37th. The service and food were very good, and while this restaurant is not cheap, it also isn’t expensive compared to many other Manhattan steakhouses, which makes it recommendable for those seeking a quiet, delicious steak dinner in a classic old-school setting. The first floor has a small bar and some booths. We found the bartender very professional and attentive, and he mixes a fine Manhattan. The dining room is on the second floor. It perhaps errs on the side of being a little under-decorated, but it was clean and comfortable with an understated and traditional style. I have seen some other reviews reference mediocre service, but we had a terrific server who was helpful and professional. We mentioned we were splitting some things, and it arrived on two separate plates, which I thought was a very nice(and sadly rare) service approach for a restaurant. We really enjoyed two salads that were both fresh and delicious – the Crisp Frisee with crumbled Blue Cheese and Sliced Tomatoes & Fresh Mozzarella. For dinner, my wife and I both ordered the small filet. The cut was terrific and very tender. The preparation was good, but much like the décor, felt a little understated.(Next time, I may ask if they offer any alternative preparations, such as maître d’ butter, au poivre, Roquefort, etc.) Don’t get me wrong – it was a great cut prepared well and very simply. The only disappointment in the whole dinner was the baked potato, which seemed a bit dry and overcooked. Two drinks, appetizer, two salads, two filets and a baked potato came to $ 160(including tax but not tip), which seems reasonable for a nice, upscale spot in Manhattan. I will visit Frankie and Johnnie’s again.

The best steak I have ever tasted. We were visiting from Australia and wanted to have a classic New York steak and classic New York cheesecake while we were here — Frankie and Johnny’s delivered both exceptionally well! Very happy and would recommend it to anyone.

Asked for a seat at the bar and the hostess pointed. Bar full and she made no effort to seat me elsewhere. Sat down and waited 15 mins while no one acknowledged me, basically had to trip up a busser to get things started. The food, not good. Chilean sea bass in a puddle of sweet creamy goo. Fried zucchini very greasy. Bad service, bad food, and pricey.

Bway Theater old school steak house. It is what it purports to be, an expensive steakhouse. Entrees were good(sirloin and salmon) cooked perfectly. Sides were extra and not special. Desserts, pie and ice cream were average or below. Service was good and friendly. Ambiance was noisy, close tables, but acceptable.

My dad and his college buds were meeting here after work and decided to let me crash the party. I was late so I only made it for one of the latter rounds of drinks and wine and entrees. The service was friendly and welcoming and our entrees were good but unfortunately they weren’t what we ordered. One of our party had to request his strip steak cooked more(he ordered medium and was served what looked slightly below med-rare) and the rest of us; ordered 22oz veal chops but were served T-bone steaks. No explanation was provided to us that they were out of veal chops or that the order was placed wrong in the kitchen. No one even apologized to us or helped us out on the check. When we asked the server and manager they both kind of just shrugged. The T-bones were good but again not what we ordered; if we wanted steaks we would’ve ordered ribeyes or filets… we wanted veal. For sides we had french fries, sauteed spinach, and mushrooms/onions; all prepared well. Not sure If I would return.

We made reservations here for our anniversary, we had been to the Frankie and Johnny’s on 45th street and really enjoyed the steaks, with the onions and mushrooms and especially the service, so we thought we would give this location a try. It did not disappoint. Manolo, our server was a real gem. This location had more ambiance than their other one, which was nice because it was our anniversary. We also choose this place because it was right across the street from our hotel. The steaks were very good as was our appetizers, we had the salad special and crab cakes. — excellent. We ordered the Rib Eye for two– medium rare — it was done to perfection. I would return.

Went here for Valentine’s with my hubby, my friend and her boyfriend. The lady in the front was a bit rude to me when I came in and told her the reservation was made by my friend online cause she could not find my friend’s name. Meanwhile they called my friend to confirm the reservation earlier that day. She kept saying its not here… I don’t see it. Eventually she found it after I spelled my friend’s name out several times. Ughh. Anyways, the waiter on the other hand was amazing! I feel bad for not getting his name(probably was still upset about the lady in the front when he introduced himself) but he had a good sense of humor and was very understanding cause my friend and I are a bit picky with food. But he brought us exactly how we wanted it and we were happy. Food is great… their steak sauce is the bomb!!! I wonder if they sell that alone? Hrmm. Well, I would have given 5 stars but the lady in the front needs to leave her attitude at home. But luckily the waiter was very nice to us. We gave him a big tip!

I like Frankie & johnnies because it’s across from my office. Food is good not amazing. I have to say the burger is good and the bone in rib eye was cooked perfectly with no seasoning– just the way I like it. There are other steakhouses within the midtown area that I would go to instead. Usually bring a client for lunch or for dinner. I’m sure I’ll be back sometime soon because of how close it is.

Went here for Restaurant Week with 5 of my friends. The experience was mediocre at best. When you go to a steakhouse, you shouldn’t be walking away saying the best part was the appetizer and the dessert. Their crab cake was awesome, so was their bread pudding. The filet with shrimp scampi was already, nothing I’d feel the need to go back for again. The service. this one’s a bit confusing to describe. We ordered two different bottles of wine. After the first one was finished, we didn’t get any new glasses. We didn’t care, but I know some people do, so it’s something that should be 2nd nature to any restaurant trying to make a good impression. What was appalling, was when the server started pouring some of the new bottle into my friend’s glass which still had wine in it. Luckily it was actually wine from this new bottle, but there’s no shot the server knew, as I had questioned him before he actually poured any. For the dessert, given 4 of us had already ordered dessert from the Restaurant Week menu, I found it odd that he brought out 4 dessert menus for a table of 4, and then didn’t give them menus to the 2 individuals who hadn’t been ordering from the RW menu and already ordered their desserts in the beginning. I guess this explains why the crowd at this place was pretty small. Next time, at a steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan, I should use this as a pretty fair barometer of what to expect.

Food is okay but DEFINITELYNOT worth it. As many others have said, this place is waaaaaaaay overpriced. At Outback Steakhouse prices this place would get another star but frankly barely earned 2 stars given the ridiculous price. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want to give it one star for the price but in all fairness to the passable food and the good staff, I’ll leave it at 2. I won’t ever go back here with all the other great places to eat in NYC.

Meh… definitely experienced better. Went here three times, same experience. This place is like an old school type steakhouse. The filet mignon on all three visits was totally mediocre. I don’t even think it was seasoned w salt and pepper. This place is never packed, even when all the other steakhouses are sold out. I don’t know that they’re missing, but they need to figure it out I would not recommend or return

I want to give this place four and half but what the heck! This place had a nice feel inside with very attentive staff :) The food was very good and every one enjoyed their meals. The only thing I didn’t like was the potatoes au gratin, I felt they should have been creamier and more slickly– less chunky. I wish we had time for dessert but we didn’t :(… We did however get to sample something else after dinner– their complimentary limo. After dinner we were going to a show and they had their own stretch limo drive us(for free — except a tip of your nice) We would definitely go back :)

Went on Unilocal to find a steak house on the way home from 5th ave shopping. I found this place. I sat at the bar and the owner was their with his friend. It was very quiet for a Friday night at 9 but the food was amazing! As I waited for my boyfriend I had a glass of Shiraz and the tuna tartare. I love tuna and this was done really well. When the bf got there we each ordered filet mignon 8oz and medium rare and we shared a side of asparagus steamed. The steak was perfection. I’m a huge steak person and it was great. Service was nice and fast and the bartender a young woman from the Ukraine was very nice and had a conversation with me while I waited for my boyfriend. We will def be back for steak! ;)

Holy moly this place is wayyyyyy overpriced! I saw the 12oz filet mignon was $ 44 with no sides and I just decided on the broiled salmon for $ 29 with NO sides. Nothing comes with sides unless you order it for extra. Granted the salmon was very moist and tasted great, I could’ve done the same exact thing for muchhh less. There was quite a bit of sticker shock amongst my group when we peered at the menu and had our entrees. I didn’t see a single face that gave into the emotion and tender love that usually appears at an excellent dish. I’m more than willing to pay for quality, but this did not feel like a $ 50 meal at all, felt more like a $ 25 meal that I got mistakenly charged for. The service was decent, and they get a star for the hostess leading me to the group, but everything else was subpar. Another star is given for having decent beers on tap(Ommegang Witte ftw), but how is Yuengling the same price at $ 7 a pint? The restaurant was fairly dead on a Friday night in a busy area, so that couldn’t have been a good sign. The bread they served at the start of the meal was almost rock hard. I didn’t have high hopes going in, but this was where the destination was, so I wouldn’t come here unless I had to.
