They do a pretty steady business of take out. I really would not call it a restaurant. It has one or two tables in a very small space in front. The street is right outside the door. The employees are friendly. It looked clean to me. I didn’t stay long just call and pick up for a friend. The streets are a mess so I do a lot of errands for those who can’t get out. Watch the cars or you may get splashed. The street is deep with melted snow puddles. ;(

Ordered from Five Luck many times and have always enjoyed my food. I ordered a delivery recently and found them to be precise in the time it would take. I appreciate the combination of good food and good service. Thank you Five Luck.

Waiting almost 15 minutes for a small won ton soup. Ridiculous to have to spend ½ hour waiting for something so small.

Five Luck first off is basically the one of the only Chinese place in the high 90’s. That being said, I really think the food is actually very good, especially when eaten fresh. I personally love the chicken and broccoli and I think it’s very tasty! The food is always fresh and the lunch special you really can’t beat — entrée and a drink for $ 5 and it’s a big portion. I highly recommend!

I gave this place a try because it was close by but that’s definitely the last time. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the service was quick. Other than that, they got both of the orders wrong and what I did get was a mushy pile of overcooked, oil-drenched vegetables over what appears to be yellow rice. Overall, not edible.

I gave this place a decent chance because they are the closest to me, but they have gotten my order wrong 2 out of 3 times and the food is so-so at best. The pork fried rice didn’t have a single piece of pork and the egg rolls are mostly greasy dough. The only good thing about this place is that they are cheap and pretty fast. Anyway, I won’t be going back again.

I’ve ordered here multiple times since living in the area for 4 years. I’m always satisfied with my meal. Nice staff. The rice is generally a bit crispy, which makes me think it is either old and reheated, or overcooked. The best thing I’ve had here is the chicken/broccoli. The broccoli is too soft, but the chicken is just right. The storefront and presentation of this take-out place is terrible, though. C’mon Five Luck — you have OK chinese food and lots of business — spruce up your décor and atmosphere a TINY bit!

Hole in the wall Chinese place with no décor to speak of. It serves its purpose if you are looking for cheap takeout food. The prices are very low and are actually lower than you would find at many places in Queens and Brooklyn! The sauce in the sweet and sour chicken tasted slightly off and some of the chicken was tough, but it was still passable overall.

I think that some of the reviews of 5 Luck were written by its competitors especially the one that accuses it of serving MSG as a side dish. The menu clearly states NOMSG. This place is a family owned business with great food at low prices. We order from it all the time and are always amazed at the portion size. It is right around the block from us and we have been a client for 10 years. I hope it stays open as the subway is driving up rents. We had the General Taos Chickens, spring role, ribs and noodles for $ 20. Every dish was great. This place is a boon to the neighborhood that is full of BS Chinese places.

I don’t understand the low reviews for this place. Five Luck has been our go-to Chinese place since we moved to the UES. It’s cheaper than a lot of other Chinese places around and everything is pretty good. Portions are also large for the price. And I love their egg rolls.

MSGOVERLOAD. Joints were swollen to the point of not being able to function for a day. Ugh.

Just had food from this place tonight. Cold soggy French fries, soaking wet rice, egg rolls that have no taste. And to top it all off… it has made me vomit for the past 20 minutes. AVOID

Can’t believe this place isn’t more highly rated. Sure its a hole in the wall, and the décor leaves a lot to be desired, but the food is above average for below average prices. Really good Chinese food(not as greasy as the typical place) for prices that can’t be beat. What more can you ask?

Seriously if you live around here, opt for Uptown Cottage instead. Comparing each dish side by side, this place loses every single time. Their food isn’t super gross or anything, but their chow fun is an inseparable blob of «noodles» and it has a really grainy taste. Their egg rolls don’t taste that good. Their lo mein is okay though. Btw, they don’t take card. Cash only.

The«combo» option here is pretty good value: you get a heaping fill of lo-mein and fried rice for $ 5.95. Their soups are pretty bland though and the female proprietress is decidedly unfriendly… even to the native speakers.

Ordered from this place on new years. It was meh. The food was okay but not very good and the place looked kinda dirty when i went in. That and the fact that is was cash only means it’ll be the only time i go back. Theres better out there.

In two months on the Upper East Side, we’ve found a dive bar, Thai delivery, good ice cream, a deli to grab a quick breakfast, and an upscale-ish diner-type place with a waitress who’s starting to recognize us as regulars. But we hadn’t yet found our go-to cheap Chinese. We tried Five Luck last night and I think we got it in one. Just as you judge your ice cream parlor by the quality of its basic flavors, I judged Five Luck on the quality of its chicken and broccoli. It was greasy, salty, and flavors of both the chicken and the broccoli jumped out at me. I had a craving, and this more than satisfied it. If it’s not the platonic ideal of cheap chicken and broccoli, it’s pretty darn close. We also got an order of mixed vegetables(which I think were in the same sauce as the chicken and broccoli) and shredded pork in garlic sauce(which I think had the same vegetables as the mixed vegetables). And because we’d ordered so much food, we got a free quart of hot and sour soup and three free egg rolls. Everything was tasty, though I’m sure not the most nutritionally sound choice. It was easily enough food for three solid meals for two hungry people and we spent about 30 bucks including tip. We haven’t dined in, but then, in our old neighborhood we ordered delivery a few times a month for two years and I wouldn’t have been able to find 75% of those places on a map. If we want to go out, we’re probably not in a chicken and broccoli state of mind anyway.
