I came for the taropuff and had to sample the usuals, e.g., char siu baos. taropuff and taro mochi was awesome. baos were just ok — other bakeries use more filling and the steamed bao was previously frozen. everything seemed fresh at 10am on a Saturday and the price is on par with the area. service is also the intense Chinese way. overall, will return for the taro sh-tuff, but won’t go out of my way for the standards.

The roast pork bun is just so so, but the service is okay. And That’s all that I wanna say, why bother asking me to write some more of the comments?

One of the best hot dog buns I’ve ever had. Also both the pineapple bun and the pineapple bun with coconut were good. Their fresh(ish) soy milk was delicious and the level of sweetness can be adjusted. Pretty clean bakery with great prices!

Cheapest lunch you can get around here-1.10 for a big bun. Coffee sucks. I also tried to get soy milk in my coffee which they have but they wouldn’t let me get it for some reason. I’m lactose intolerant so I was annoyed.

The buns are not as tasty as the Chinatown locations and I think it’s .10-.20 cents more per bun here but that is what you get for the location. I do feel lucky that this is very close to my job so when I get the craving, it’s super convenient. Definitely a grab-and-go place. My favorites are the custard filled bun(I think they call it the sweet topping bun — the oval shaped bun is the one with the custard. The round is plain) and the milk crème bun although depending on the turnover, it can get stale. The dan tat isn’t bad. I had the sliced vanilla roll for the first time and this was surprisingly refreshing. I love Chinese buns because they satisfy your sweet tooth without being overloaded with frosting and way too much sugar as American desserts. Plus they are so cheap!

I can say is amazing! Everything is so fresh, you want it all. Prices are cheap and food is so tasty! I have to stop here every time I am in the Village.

The only Asian bakery in West Village. It has a pretty large selection of breads, pastries and cakes/rolls that you’d expect to see at super cheap prices. It’s also located literally right outside the ACE West 4th subway station so it’s really easy to grab a snack if you’re on the go. It’s pretty hard to find any Asian bakeries outside of Chinatown so this place is definitely going to be top of mind for me if I’m ever craving cake rolls while in West Village!

Lunch rush on a weekday in the area can ruin a lot of your options, especially when in a hurry. This spot is particularly unassuming as it’s wedged next to the west 4th St subway entrance. Very similar to Paris baguette as you take a pair of tongs and a plate, then pick whatever carby goodness your heart desires. I settled on a warm pork puff(empanada) and a coconut bread concoction. To wash it down I got the hot chocolate. Total…$ 4.25! No wonder it’s cash only, great bargain. The coconut bread was the best of the bunch as it’s soft and didn’t have overwhelming coconut flavor. The pork puff was lukewarm and reminded me of Taco Bell meat. Hot chocolate is satisfying and not too thin like some cheap places. Overall the food here is only okay at best but the value is amazing. Quick and efficient, plus an easy grab before heading down the subway.

I came in here looking for components for a to go dinner around 5:00 pm. I got a cheesecake slice and a hot dog bun. The hot dog bun with the hot dog had lettuce and tomatoes in the hot dog bun which gave it an interesting flavor. The cheesecake was a bit dry but tasty.

The most convenient location ever! Literally right behind the entrance of the ACEBDFM. I’ve been to this location twice this week. Extremely reasonable prices… actually ridiculously low for the location. All bao buns are about $ 1.10 and are so delicious. You have your option of sweet or savory fillings. My absolute favorite is their egg custard bad bun. This yellow custard cream is just so delicious and addicting. Imagine a custard filled donut but in a fluffy light steamed bao instead of fried heavy dough. What I love most about their pastries and desserts besides the fact that almost everything is less than $ 2 is that nothing is too sweet. Their cakes look amazing also. I usually travel to Flushing or China Town for chinese goods but I don’t have to anymore! I am so happy that this little bakery exists in West Village. Cash only!

Solid Chinese bakery. I come here for the moon cakes during mid autumn festival. Their regular offerings are also pretty good. Just remember it’s cash only.

Great location, cheap prices, and yummy baked goods. Located right next to the IFC Center, this place is perfect for grabbing a snack or light meal before or after seeing a show(Or sneaking something in, if that’s your style. I’m not judging). There’s no real seating, it’s pretty much a grab and go counter. Nice selection of savory and sweet items. They have all the standard Chinese pastries(egg custard tarts, pork buns, sesame red bean balls, custard buns, etc), plus some pretty cakes and cookies. They also sell different types of bubble teas and smoothies. Only drawback is cash only, but the prices are so reasonable that I can live with that.

Exquisite boba. Their boba was cooked to perfection. Slightly sweet, springy, QQ, not too soft and definitely not hard at all. So good. The buns here are good too. Very delicate and buttery buns that wrap their fillings, including char siu, taro, and hot dogs. I don’t love their fillings(the taro was a bit grainy and the char siu was not chunky but more shredded. I miss the grittier, chunkier Oakland/SF Chinatown char siu baos, but Fay Da has quickly become a favorite for me here in NYC.

I would give them a 1 star for their incredibly horrible customer service, eye rolling, and rudeness but the food is cheap and good so I give them 3. The tuna fish bun thing is delicious and the chicken puff is delicious, taste like chicken pot pie. The mochi sesame ball is completely unsweetened which is not something I’m used to but still tasty. I need to try everything else.

LOVED this place for years. It’s kooky, cheap, clean, cutsey and most of all delicious. The loaction is solid, right off of the W4th stop. It is all self serve and CASHONLY and expect broken English. Basically, don’t speak unless spoken to and keep it simple. I asked for a box once, never got the box but got all 20 patries triple wrapped and bagged military style… I just rolled with it. It’s part of the fun. It’s a bit cramped as you scoot by each other tying to get into the bins with tongs in hand but who cares. Everything is pretty much $ 1 – 2. The roasted pork buns(think boneless pork pieces and a delicious BBQ sauce with a sweet bun that reminds me of Hawaiian bread) and egg custard tarts… these are a must, everything else… it you even think you’ll like it, it will be delicious, just put it on the tray, its a buck! Just keep in mind that it’s fresh with no preservatives. It’s meant to be eaten immediately. Seating is non-existent…it’s a grab and go type place. Not to be missed.

Cash only It’s rare to find good Asian bakeries outside of Chinatown, so Fay Da is a West Village gem. The prices are affordable and you can’t beat the location(literally right outside the West 4th station). Fay Da is a tiny shop and it’s most suitable for grab-and-go. There are two chairs inside, but it’s awkwardly by the door. The process for choosing items is really simple: grab a tray and pliers and select the baked good you want. Note: they give you the plastic bags when you pay so you have to put the pastries directly on the tray. They also have behind the counter items, such as cakes. They have all the standard pastries you would find at an Asian bakery. I would recommend the chicken puff(in the heated metallic box). The chicken puff is warm, crispy and reminds me a bit of a chicken pot pie. It’s delicious. I also really like the sweet topping coconut bun, the cream milk bun, sponge cakes, and basically everything else… The drinks are great too. I always get a coffee milk tea or green milk tea. It goes great with the desserts. The bubble tea here is kind of foamy. It’s different than places like Cocos or Kung Fu, but still good. I’m so glad this location of Fay Da exists and that I don’t have to make the trek down to Chinatown to enjoy Asian pastries.

It’s a Chinese bakery near NYU next to IFC right outside the subway entrance. What more do you need in terms of convenience? They have buns, bubble tea, and also a steam-case for the more traditional Chinese hot food items. Quality holds up to other like-businesses and staff is usually friendly.

I come to Chinese bakeries simply for 2 things. Egg custard and BUNS. I do not know if I like my buns big. What I do know is that I like my buns JUICY. Whether they be pork, red bean, taro, or whatever else filling does not matter. Okay, that was a lie. PORKALLDAY. The space is super convenient. It is right off the West 3rd street subway staircase entrance. There are no options for sit down. The store is clean for the most part. The price is what you might expect at a Chinese bakery. Good. At this West Village location it would be great. The one thing that I DONOT like and I feel that they need to rectify is how you bring the baked goods to pay for them at the counter. Sanitary wise it is great that tongs is used and hard plastic plates are used to carry them over. BUT the plates are used over and over again it would make better sense to have some sort of paper barrier to prevent cross contamination between different goods. Furthermore, not all of the baked goods have that little sheet of barrier to deter unsanitary things to be transported from the hard plastic plates onto them. I am forced to remember to either bring a napkin or 2 for my baked goods to be placed on before going to the cash register to pay for them. The service is good. Simple and gets the job done. FAN.

Sesame Balls FTW Filled with super sweet red bean paste, these are the almond croissants of the East. That golden friend mochi shell is as good as the buttery flakey exterior of well made croissants. How convenient that it’s right above West 4th!
