Holy crap this is a great space! Like, you walk in and you think ‘this is normal’ but then you turn right and you’re like ‘holy crap this is a great space!’. It’s huge! And, brick. And, warehouse-y but comfortable and nice. Seriously. Holy crap! I recently went here for a Chelsea Thursday and fell in love with the space. What drops it down to 3 stars, however, is how they used the space. I liked the front area with the books and the seats but the warehouse-y bit was ill-planned, I think. I got a headache from the crowd and the small, personal listening stations. Also, I thought the lighting was bad. But, I think if I went back on any other day that wasn’t the opening night of their Annual Showcase I would’ve had a better experience. I’ll definitely be returning to test this theory.

This place looked cool but they didn’t have much going on

Sometimes you walk into galleries and see squiggles on the wall. Eyebeam is a headscratcher in a different way. Using modern technology and innovative installations and sculptures, Eyebeam’s main goal is to constantly question reality and human behavior. They often have gallery parties featuring innovative technological installations, as well as pretty nifty circuit-bending DJs. These parties are highly recommended by yours truly, so get on the mailing list for sure!

Equal parts gallery and workspace, plus a shop with great books on graphical imaging and a very nice service staff… Eyebeam was a pretty cool place. Couple this with an outstanding exhibit by Joseph DeLappe featuring an enormous Ghandi and unique 2nd life visual presentation and I’d say it is definitely worth the walk.
