A great establishment tucked away in the madness that is the Theater District. I had heard nothing but good things about this classic diner from a family member, so while I was in New York for a week last month, I made it my mission to have breakfast here. Needless to say, I ended up eating breakfast here everyday! The food and coffee are great, but to top all of that off, I’ll also tell you that the prices are cheap. Give these guys a try!

Where to begin, oh wheree to begin! Alright first off, waiter Julie was mega terrible! She had a stinkin attitude from the get-go. She basically slammed our plates and didn’t even get our orders right. Also, towards the end we told her we wanted separate checks and she was all«why didn’t you tell me sooner, ughhhhh». She is sucha bully! We didnt even tip that monster, she needs to get fired. Food was mediocre and I’m not just saying that because of the monster, it serously was mediocre. Totally not worth the money. Go somewhere else ppls!

We were in New York for a weekend getaway and needed some place to eat on Sunday morning. Because we’re in staying in Midtown we found the Evergreen which was just a few minutes walk away. When we walked in the place was packed, there were no seats available. The restaurant is fairly large as far as New York goes so it was a good sign to me that every table was filled. We were greeted immediately and after only a few minutes late our party of 6 was seated. The staff was friendly, engaging, and seemed genuinely appreciative of our being there. This is a diner in every sense of the word, from the variety of the menu, to be round stools and counter where patrons can sit. We all ordered different items off of the menu, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The servers were quick to refill coffee and water, and the restaurant was clean. The prices here were very reasonable especially in New York. When we go back to New York and if we stay in Midtown, we will certainly try this place again.

I’ve worked around the corner from Evergreen for years and yet only stopped in for the first time last week. Now, I’m making up for lost time. This classic diner is a welcome haven in one of the more maddening parts of this city. It’s never too loud or crowded, the food and coffee are solid(with expectations managed), prices are relatively cheap, and the service is friendly. What more could you want in a diner?

If you’re looking for the old diner feel, Evergreen is the place for you. The service was quick. We were seated and had our drinks within a few minutes. Our server came around regularly until we were ready to eat. The food arrived quickly after ordering. My wife got the California Omlette which was bland. Considering what’s in it we were expecting a bit more flavor. I ordered the tried and true French toast with bacon. The toast was warm and the bacon was crispy. Maybe too crispy. Overall, it was a decent stop.

Evergreen Diner NY Manhattan Theatre District 8:40am Thursday 26th November 2015 Three Stars While walking around the Macy Day Parade area, nothing was really open so we stopped in the Evergreen Diner. We sat at the counter and watched the parade on TV. I had two over easy eggs, home fries, bacon, and toast($ 10). The food was as expected. The eggs were actually over easy. The home fries were not crispy, not seasoned, and not very big. The three strips of bacon were not worth the $ 3 increase charge. The toast was slathered in butter so I ate all of that. The coffee was good and strong.

Great little diner just off of Time Square. First stumbled across this place around 10 years ago. Have been coming back for breakfast when ever I’ve been in town, and it has never disappointed. Breakfast is good — classic fare. Service is prompt and efficient. Pop by and you won’t be disappointed!

The pancakes and waffles were perfect! I wasn’t a fan of the sausage… I was unsure of what kind it was(white meat links?) and it was a little pricey for breakfast. The waitress was very nice and fast service!

From the outside looking in, Evergreen definitely does not look like a diner. But after you take a look at their menu, their selection is definitely on par. You can pretty much order whatever you want. I went for the philly cheesesteak(which comes with fries). It was alright. If you’re in midtown and you’re craving a philly, then this will probably do the job. The sammie wasn’t as big as I was expecting it to be. I’ve had bigger, better-tasting portions for a cheaper price at delis nearby, but I guess you’re really just paying for the diner experience. I don’t know of many diners in midtown so Evergreen might just be your only choice!

The line at the door says 2 things; good eats and service. Don’t be discouraged by the length of the line, they move people and food fast

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and far from expensive this is your go to place. After walking from Christopher Columbus Circle and MoMA, I had worked up a hunger and needed a good breakfast that wouldn’t break my pockets. This was my first time at this diner(and I prefer diner food for it’s large portions and great pricing) so I was open to seeing what they had to offer. Once inside, it isn’t the fanciest place in the world but it is the hole in the wall that has some of the best food. The décor leaves much to be desired and it’s just a step above substandard cleanliness. We were seated quickly by the hostess(who also running the cash register) and were sat at the back near the cooking area, bussing tubs where dirty dishes were dropped off, and down the hall from the bathroom(even without stepping in there it looked suspect smdh). After we were seated, the service came quickly. A young man came to the table to take our drink orders(tea and juice). My family member and I didn’t need much time to peruse the menu because we already knew what we wanted. She opted for a simple waffle with bacon(pork) and I indulged with eggs with cheese, waffle, and sausage links. With drinks on the table in less than a few minutes of being sat(which I find to be pretty impressive), I had not gone half way through my cup of tea, and our meals arrived. Because the table were sat at was so small, there was barely any room to fit the massive plates, but I digress. The food was piping hot and made to order perfectly. The portions are darn equal in size to the large plates that they are served on. Both our waffles took up the entire plate with our sides having to be served on smaller dishes. My waffle was sweet and soft, my eggs were the typical scrambled with two American cheese slices left to melt on top, and my sausages were cooked with a slight crisp. My family member’s bacon was well done without losing any flavor and she also enjoyed her waffle. Throughout our meal, our server and her male helper, made sure to keep our table clean, our glasses full, and offered refills. They cleared our dishes as quickly as we finished our meals and even after eating such a big meal and filling our bellies, they offered us a dessert. Needless to say, we passed on that offer, but when it came time for our bill there was a slight wait(I won’t fault the waitress her section got filled up pretty quickly). Overall, the service was expeditious, done with a smile, and the food was excellent.

Super friendly waitstaff. Tons of items on the menu from breakfast to burgers to gyros & pasta. I ordered the chicken gyro w salad & fries. My diet is grateful they only had coke in a can, otherwise it would have gone great w my gyro :). Very reasonable prices for being so close to Times Square. This is where to come if you’re looking for some local flair without all the fancy. Chicken gyro is shaved gyro style(not diced chicken). Served in a build your own style so you can make it how you like — nice fresh salad I just stuffed into my gyro :). Gyro sauce was a bit lacking in flavor but got the job done. Fries could have been a bit more crispy. Very fast service and attentive waitress.

It’s your stereotypical diner with a couple standouts… Their assorted doughnuts are huge, as are the cookies. But, the sausage is quite unique — they are large links. The service was okay and the food was edible. We had a party of 6(3 kids and 3 adults), which means we ordered a variety of items. The omelets were probably the best option we ordered, but you can’t really mess up an omelet… The French Toast had a great deal of cinnamon and very little sugar. The home fries weren’t your typical home fries… They were more like mashed potatoes with a few chunks of potatoes within them. They were also pretty bland. Overall, it was okay. When we come back into the city we will likely try another spot, but it’s worth it if you’re looking for a simple and edible diner. I would definitely come back for a doughnut and/or cookies!

I discovered this on my first morning in New York and fell in love with the place! I went every morning of my stay for breakfast. Its like what you imagine a New York diner to be. It is very good value and a great selection. The food is great here, very good. The bagels are to die for! The staff are so friendly and really helpful. I only had breakfast here but I think they do lunch and dinner too. It seemed to be a place locals go to which is always a good sign. They have free wifi too!

UGH. I had a perfectly acceptable if mediocre and slightly overdone waffle. My daughter ordered spaghetti with sauce on the side(she’s 8; whaddaya want from me). We added a little red sauce and she tried it. «Mama, this is disgusting.» Okay, she’s 8 and picky. I tried the sauce on its own first as that can sometimes be an issue. Sauce is fine. I try a bite of the spaghetti and almost gag it back out. Then I get a whiff of the actual dish, and it smells awful. Look. It’s a diner. I’m not surprised they’re warming up pasta that was previously made(it was really overdone). But if it was previously made any longer ago than 24 hours, you have no business serving it. Who the hell knows how old this was. I couldn’t believe how awful it smelled. To their credit they took it off the bill, but the waiter looked at me skeptically, told me it was made that morning(no way, unless it was boiled in sewer water), and threw it away without smelling it. Never. Again.

I’ve gone to Evergreen for quick lunches(both sit-in and delivery) during the work day. The food is very classic NYC diner food, and the prices are very affordable for lunch considering how big their portions are. The staff understands the importance of the lunch rush and is fast with service as well as food. You can get just about anything on this menu, but make sure you try the grilled cheese and french fries!

Decent food but went to Patzeria restaurant down the street the next day and that place blew this one out of the water. Go there instead for more attentive service, cheaper prices, and quality food!

My grandfather grew up in NY, and he often talks about being a youth in the city, eating here makes me feel like I am in NYC with my grandparents when they were newly married and moved to the city together. This is what I see in my head, a 40’s –50’s feeling diner, tucked away in a small street in the big city… filled with locals, tourists, etc. A great place for breakfast and it’s on the cheap too so you don’t have to worry about the price… which can be a concern in Manhattan. Eggs were cooked to perfection, and the challa french toast was amazing! ! ! If you’re in the theater district, check this place out for breakfast, i doubt you’ll leave disappointed!
