Décor: Beautifully Wooden Signage: Witty Barista: Friendly and efficient Crowd: Hipster Menu: Somewhat hidden in placement Coffee: Average Rating: 3 stars for the coffee, 5 stars for all else I always enjoy seeing nice wooden furniture in NYC as I feel it gives us a nice break from the urban jungle. It also plays well against the exposed brick walls and small paintings on top. I feel like a décor is an essential for a coffeehouse, especially for people who want to spend hours in there. Yes, I’m referring to the crowd inside donning beanies, typing away on macbooks, and sporting shirts buttoned up all the way to the top. Hipster fashion? The signage outside the shop is witty and what attracted us in for a mid-afternoon coffee break. There was someone before us in line and I wanted to check out the menu so I would know what to order by the time it was my turn. I glanced around and it was nowhere to be seen until we stepped up the counter where the menu is taped next to the pastry showcase. My suggestion is to have the menu listed somewhere more visible to help expedite a line, if one is ever formed. I ordered a cortado and the friendly barista even cut my milk into a heart shape on top of my coffee. The others with me had an iced coffee. What’s lacking here was a decent coffee. It tasted generic yet slightly harsh to me and the iced coffee drinkers agreed. I’m by no means a coffee expert but to me the beans used in my opinion lacked depth but was full bodied.

I love this coffee place. The girl(barista) is nice to look at and the perk is good.

LOVE Their coffee! Full or aroma and really enjoy their coffee! But espresso seems more expensive than Starbucks… Cozy and cute café in East Village for villagers :)

I ordered an almond milk latte and vegan salty choc chip cookie. Both items were so amazing. I’ve recently moved to the area and have been taste testing both coffees and vegan treats. This location severely rises above the rest(and my standards are pretty high!). The cookie particularly was fantastic– creamy, salty and delicious! Zero complaints or criticisms to make. Highly recommended.

I found this place in a quest to find the closest place to my apartment, and it turns out it’s WONDERFUL. I got an espresso(the most important quality test) and it was short pulled and perfect. Hot, black as night, with the slightest crema. Tastes like purity and sin at the same time. Sexually good. Soy cappucino and decaf espresso are just as good. The only issue is the pastries. I had the blueberry scone which was quite weak and the banana chocolate chip muffin which was OK. Maybe skip the pastries unless they improve them. So – lovely espresso, mediocre pastries. Should be four stars, by my book. But the SERVICE and the lovely LACKOFPRETENTION is so important. I feel so comfortable here and the team is small and confident and knowledgable. An atypical place for its location. No chic attitudes, but definitely a chic place. And uhhh, that espresso.

I think this place is good, overall, it’s a nice little neighborhood café, lots of locals go there with dogs and the atmosphere is always friendly. However the blocky tables and tiled floor make this place not so inviting to linger for me, although many people camp out there, and the drip coffee could be better. For my taste it’s a little burnt.

The coffee is good without being excellent. This is probably the best spot around to sit down and enjoy your coffee at a table — there’s 4 or 5 tables, a bar with about 6 stools and some bench seating as well as outdoor seating.

Really really like this coffeeshop. It just so happens that it’s across the street from my guitar teacher. How convenient! Of late, I’ve taken to stopping in here for an hour before a lesson, to have a sip of cold brew & flip some pages of my latest volume. What to expect? Super duper calafragalistically excellent coffee. What else? Really really friendly people. I don’t know if it’s cause it’s so small or out of the way, but i feel almost like I’m in Brooklyn! Dogs under the tables, friendly staff smiling, and asking you how you’re doing… I just love it everytime I stop in. :)

Perfect cozy ambiance and good espresso /scones. They have both half and half and almond milk which is great. Friendly knowledgeable staff and a crowd that feels mostly local.

Really weak espresso & customer service. Barista seemed uninterested in helping me when I walked in because she was busy talking to her friend. Americano was weak and bland… barista just dumped a bunch of milk in without asking me how much I wanted. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Shhh don’t tell anyone. It’s my fave. I can read or study or just enjoy a cup on the bench. They’ve got outlets and wifi. Pour over is only 2 dollars and their blends are diverse and flavorful.

Very small and clean café in East Village. I’m surprised they don’t put more tables in because the place feels like it has a lot of empty space in the middle of the store. There were a bunch of people on laptops plowing away when we came. The latte was a little bland, and the espresso flavor wasn’t super rich like many of the refined espresso shops in the neighborhood. Pretty decent nonetheless. Their prices also seem steeper than some of the other coffee shops in the hood, but maybe that’s just in comparison to the quality. No decaf! Service is standard, they make sure you get your caffeine fix efficiently.

I live right across the street from Elsewhere(so should have written this review aaaaages ago!). It’s a really friendly and cute neighborhood place with great coffee. I’m not much of a fan of their baked goods but if your looking for a nice place to sit and read while you enjoy your morning coffee, this is definitely the spot for you.

This was the worst shot I’ve had in New York. Anyone who saw the bubbly mess should have known it would be very off, but the barista handed over the cup without a second glance. I probably should have complained, but the fact that he didn’t even notice the shot was funky made me doubt that he’d do anything to correct the situation. Perhaps it was just the guy working, but in the future I think I’ll head elsewhere.

In town with my family visiting for a week. So far, I have had two cappuccinos and a double espresso at Elsewhere. The two caps were on consecutive mornings and were excellent. The espresso was this afternoon and was, surprisingly, really bad. Rather than a nice brew topped with a proper crema, the cup was basically all one thick, bitter, almost soupy liquid. Foolishly, I didn’t send it back, but I should have. It was a different girl this afternoon than it had been in the mornings, and she didn’t seem nearly as comfortable with the equipment and the process as the morning girl does. I’ll give benefit of the doubt and try again later this week. Elsewhere itself is a cute little place, and both baristas have been very polite and cordial. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

This is probably my favorite coffee place to study at if you can snag a seat! There’s probably space for a max of 8 people there if they all have their laptops but the place itself if pretty spacious and very chill. A lot of sunlight floods in through the wall length windows here. Think that the coffee prices are also great as well. For only $ 2 they give you this enormous bowl like cup of coffee.

Nice local coffee shop near NYU Tisch with great coffee and service. I was visiting NY and waiting while my daughter did a dance audition. They offer pour overs, which I like because you can pick your coffee variety and it’s freshly made. They offer a nice selection. I had an Ethiopian and a Sumatran. Both were delicious and made to the right strength, which is to say strong but not muddy. I also had a blueberry scone. It was small and not very sweet, which is actually the way I like a scone. The barista was very friendly. She brought my coffee to my table and was happy to chat. They have free wifi. It’s not a big place but comfortable. There isn’t a lot of seating so not sure how crowded it gets. It was exactly the place I wanted to relax on a Sat morning with a really good cup of coffee.

I had an almond milk latte here today and it was so amazing! They also have tons of vegan options for other fancy drinks too. It’s refreshing to see a coffee shop that a vegan can get a regular drink at. It’s so easy to offer soy or almond milk, yet most places don’t. I also had vegan brunch there today too! They were hosting a pop-up company who did vegan brunch today, and it was great! I will definitely go to more events like this in the future!

I had an iced latte with the perfect proportion of espresso and milk. It wasn’t watered down, either. The ambiance is seriously lacking, though. Not much of a hang out place.
