On the corner of 103rd Avenue and 101st St, up the block from 106 police precinct stands Eddie(full name Edwin) & Suzies Luncheonette. Absolutely no sign on the front keeps this place very hidden as Eddie is really not looking for anymore business. Even the name Eddie & Suzies is just what the locals call it for lack of a better title. Edwin is an all around nice guy. He’s a retired German cook from one of those old time Catskill resorts and really knows how to cook, especially what he specializes in. The place is very old and dated inside. You would probably questioning even eating there if you didn’t know of him through word or mouth or read this review but the man can cook! Breakfast is great here for a quick, homemade, great tasting egg sandwhich at the right price. His specialty is his eggs(usually fried), bacon(or ham), amazingly delicious thinly sliced potatoes, cheese on a roll. Nothing light here about calories. Eddie will slather butter on everthing he makes unless you stop him. This is the reason everything tastes so damn good. In years past he used to make a face when you asked for egg whites but times have changed so he has begrudgingly okayed the egg white revolution. I often order it with egg whites as the butter, bacon and potatoes make up plenty in taste. His egg sandwhich could possibly be the best in NY as far as I’m concerned. For lunch I have had his cheeseburger(homemade from him) in the past on a regular roll and it was nothing less then incredible. Another lunch favorite of mine is his homemade chicken cutlets with brown gravy on a hero… so good. You have to get there early in your day though because he’s already rushing to turn off the grill by 1:30pm as he likes to end his day promptly. But if you do and you go along with the program of what he has available you will be most satisfied. I guess I can sort of compare this as the breakfast version of Seinfield’s soup nazi. You usually have to just get what he has available, get there on time or your outta luck. Price is always different too. Usually low but not the same each time. No priced menus. Coming at a quiet time, giving some good conversation usually gets you a lower price, lol. Coming at a busier time and having him do something that he didn’t want to do exactly can often net you an extra .50 cents or so on a sandwhich, lol. His wife Suzie is usually pleasant BUT don’t get into a politics discussion with her or her liberal democrat beliefs will be forced upon you, lol. They usually have CNN news or something simlar playing on the old tube TV. Although in recent times she has seemed to back off from any political frays. Maybe she has lightened up or a customer might of successfully convinced her that debating a patrons politicall beliefs is not usually good business. When leaving, after ringing you up, Suzie will usually yell over to Edwin«Say goodbye Edwin!» to which Edwin will yell out«Goodbye EDWIN!». a little redundant after the tenth time but I always love it anyway as it is their trademark. Also, Eddie will probably be upset that he’s listed on Unilocal now as I knestly think he doesn’t want anymore business, lol.
