Yes, yes, it’s a chain but sometimes you just need some basics for a hiking trip. It’s great to have Eddie Bauer back in NYC. Store sells a nice collection of casual and technical clothing (sun protection gear, fab pieces for travel, shoes, packs etc.) and accessories for men and women at reasonable prices. I especially love their denim. Staff is excellent. Thankfully, they accept all catalog Bauer vouchers/​coupons and do accept mail order returns in store.

Nice stuff, though some of it gives off the the ‘suburban dad’ vibe. I found what I wanted, but not after enduring sales pitches and overwrought attention from the sales staff. I was very grateful for their help, but the force by which it came was kind of a shock to my system. They kept pushing a credit card as well, which I didn’t appreciate. I can’t remember the last time I felt this way about a retail store, but that’s probably because I make it a point to avoid places like this.
Note to retailers: quit pushing your people to do this. It’s annoying for me and puts your staff in an awkward position.

Dropped in their new 5th Avenue flagship (actually at 100 5th) armed with a 40% off coupon via the catalog, which was useless because it was off regularly priced items, and everything is on faux sale (and still pricey). Staff were everywhere but seemed to all still be in training and hesitant to approach customers.
