The worst service. When you are new at your job, being trained and still temporarily incompetent, the least you can do is exhibit GREAT customer service. Simply being nice goes a very long way. this is just in regard to the young lady working the register.
However, the combination of the Pharmacy manager and the cashier made the situation even worse. They looked like they had just finished having sex. When he came over to help her, it was the only time she smiled. He was rude, aloof, dismissive and stupid.
I’m saddened that this is the type of service seems to be pervasive in neighborhoods of color and usually perpetrated on us by workers of color. sad.sad.sad.

Duane Reade on a bustling corner in Harlem. There is a giant wall of beer near the door, and an armored security guard with his arms folded in front of the beer. Don’t mess with the beer wall. Or the guard. Otherwise it’s a regular DR.

I love this place since the renovation some time back. Thankfully !!! The store is bright, the lines are quick (so don’t be put off with the long lines, trust me QUICK), has an awesome selection of products (especially makeup and hair products, my fav things) and its conveniently located beside the 4,5, 6 trains and tons of buses. I go in there at least once a week, love it.
Just a couple of downsides, unlike many locations downtown of comparable size and customer traffic it does not have the sandwich, salad and fruit kiosk. Hopefully, the Delish kiosk will be coming soon. Any maybe they will offer organic and vegan options. Another downside is the creepy security guards that walk up and down the aisle incessantly. It weirds me out and makes me feel like a criminal. I guess they have serious theft problem, so it’s understandable.

So I have mixed reviews on this store. This is a great location as its by the train station (4,5,6). The store is big and clean and has many products, especially natural hair products. My problem is that the store staff is not very friendly. The many times I have been in this store it’s always a different experience.
And although the location of the store is great after the sun goes down this is also a breeding ground of all the crackheads, dealers and drunks of the world. So always be careful.

Just a typical drugstore /​market. Reminds me of CVS, RiteAid, and Walgreens on the west coast. Nothing really special. I think they are rebranding, because I noticed the ones in the city were more distinctly branded, cleaned up as DR vs. Duane Reade.
Some things are just more expensive on the East Coast.
