DomoDomo is a cute, new, intimate and albeit small/mid sized Japanese spot. Reservations are advised, especially if you are planning a special occasion. We sat at the sushi bar with the intention of trying the Domokase, or basically their Omakase — multi course signature meal of various sushi and hand rolls($ 75). As my guest best put it, it is a ‘starter’ Omakase. For those with more Omakase experience, I wouldn’t prepare oneself to be mind blown, but the sushi here was tasty overall. With the Domokase, we had a bottle of the Dassai50 Nigori Sake, which was a pleasant, smooth nigori to complement our variety of sushi. Below is a list of the various sushi provided with this meal – (oyster sampler) Jumbo oyster w/scallop, yuzu foam and ikura Egg custard w/black truffle sauce Chutoro Marinated Salmon Spanish Mackerel House smoked Kampachi(similar to squid) King Salmon(smoky) Scallop w/yuzu(super puffy with slight tang) Japanese spot prawn w/topping of caviar(very clean, nice finish) Hand Rolls course and seasonal based(chef’s choice premium sushi) – Negi Toro hand roll Lobster hand roll Uni hand roll(sweet and smoky) Because we were still hungry and also curious of this item, we tried their full Oyster sampler separate from the Domokase. This included the jumbo oyster w/scallop and yuzu plus Kumamoto oysters. Overall, I would say the Omakase here is small in comparison to some others I’ve experienced, though the $ 75 price tag is a bit of a reflection of that. Though while the portion seemed a bit on the smaller size, it was hard to point out particular stand out pieces but I did have my favorites. The Scallop w/yuzu was perhaps my favorite in the first half, the Uni hand roll was great in the hand roll course. My least favorite was the oyster sampler. While this dish looked incredible, the oysters were quite lackluster, and this was while in season. In general though, all the sushi was made of high quality ingredients and made with precision/TLC, so this is respectable Omakase. If you are looking for a ‘starter’ Omakase, I would highly recommend DomoDomo. I would personally return again for the lower cost yet quality Omakase in a more intimate/modern environment. Comparatively to some lower cost Omakase spots, DomoDomo has the upper hand with the classier and more modern space.

I need to come back, I’m craving it right now. First of all I’m not a big raw fish person. However, DOMODOMO makes me crave it. It’s different from your typical sushi places with their sushi and rolls. These handrolls are creative and an experience in your mouth. I had the handroll course and it was great from the chawamushi, which melts in your mouth, all the way to the dessert. I enjoyed every part of the meal. If you’re not familiar with handrolls or only had the mediocre kind at regular Japanese joints, come here for some real handrolls with fresh quality sushi. P. S. try to reserve seats by the sushi bar, they’re the best seats in the restaurant as you get to watch them make everything.

Wish I could say the food was great. They never honored our reservation. We had dinner reservations for 7:30, arrived at 7:20, and had no table. They told us to wait 20 minutes. The hostess at the door actually turned her back on us immediately after saying that. No apologies. We asked a different server if its possible to wait outside as it is cramped inside and the other diners were clearly distracted by us standing over them. After waiting 20 minutes outside with no call, we went back in. We were promptly told sorry, but its a small restaurant. That was it. No apologies. Our parents were visiting from out of town and we wanted them to experience a nice omakase dinner, but instead ruined our family dinner night before our parents are leaving. This is such a shame to give them this kind of memory on the last night of their NYC visit. Shame on this place for not even attempting to make any effort to accommodate people tat made actual reservations to try their restaurant. If you must eat here, I recommend not to bother making reservations.

Since coming back from Japan, I have become somewhat of a sushi snob, where the fish isn’t soft, the rice isn’t vinegared, or the sushi just doesn’t taste right. So far, this is one of the closest fresh delicious sushi I have had, that I would come back to eat again. The Hypes: — Get the Domokase. We got one Domokase and one«Trust me more» — a perfect amount of sushi for two and you get to try a variety of foods. Oh yea, the price is right(for a tasting menu) — Handrolls — This place is known for that. You will get a variety in your tasting menu. The hits: Lobster, Chuturo, and salmon. — If you like yuzu, you will love the shrimp apple salad. Bursting with citrus flavor, its inhaled at first bite. — Jumbo oyster — again, if you’re a yuzu fan you’ll love it. — Consistency — not many places are known to be consistent after one or two trips, but this definitely is. — Service — fast, accommodating on a late Saturday night, and very friendly host The Gripes: — Make a resi. There are only four tables and seating at the bar — Desserts could be better. We had the cheesecake(eh), the hojicha pudding(if you like toasted rice you’ll like it), and ice cream(nothing spectacular)

If you’re looking for a good experience and good quality sushi, then this is the place for you. Get the domokase, which is their most expensive omakase. For $ 68, you get: Jumbo oyster with scallop, aonori, yuzu foam, and ikura Chawanmushi: egg custard with black truffle sauce 5 pieces of chef’s choice sushi Negi toro hand roll with scallion Butter sous vide lobster hand roll Unagi(eel) hand roll with chocolate kabayaki sauce White tuna chazuke in dashi broth, aonori, thyme, shio kombu Dessert: varies, but the choice that day was Hojicha pudding or Water chestnut panna cotta The seaweed they used to wrap the handrolls were so crispy and easy to bite. Other sushi handrolls, I have a tough time ripping the seaweed apart. The jump oyster with scallop was probably my favorite part of the meal, but everything was still excellent.

Definitely make reservations here! I came here on a Monday night and it was still fully packed at 9PM. The food was reasonably priced(especially for the tasting menus), but they definitelly won’t leave you full. Overall, the food was good, but not amazing. To start off, they give you a stone tablet with a hole full of yuzu water and a small tablet that expands into a small hand towel in the water. The towel isn’t very high quality — just a neat trick. I would’ve just preferred a plain hot towel. Had the Domokase, which is very reasonably priced at $ 68. Would recommend this for first timers, as I was pretty happy! Jumbo oyster — scallop, yuzu foam, ikura — The foam was way too rich and excessive for my taste. I didn’t like this dish very much, as I feel like they just topped it off with whatever crazy things they wanted. Chawanmushi — Egg custard with black truffle sauce — I liked the addition of the black truffle! It gave a simple, standard egg custard very nice earthy tones. Nigiri pieces — 6 pieces to chef’s decision — I don’t remember every single one, but they were decent. The rice was well textured, but on the blander side. Negi toro hand roll — Toro, scallion — What? I had no idea the handrolls were more like… finger rolls. Oh, pretentious city food turning a snack into… a micro snack. I overheard a couple asking, «Do you want to share a hand roll?» Good luck. Don’t worry, the Domokase includes 3 «hand rolls», but they’re ridiculously micro-sized. The negi roll was okay — crisp nori, good rice, but the fish was very plain. Lobster hand roll — Butter Sous vide lobster — NOMSSS. The lobster meat was so flavorful. Probably my favorite dish of the meal. But in the end, I feel like it was just a ridiculous ton of butter kicking in and anything tastes good with that much butter in it. Unagi hand roll — House smoked eel, chocolate kabayaki sauce — Honestly, this was a piece of nigiri sushi with a piece of nori underneath to wrap. «Hand roll», kid me not. It was okay — the chocolate sauce was a lot less decadent than I had imagined. White Tuna chazuke — Dashi broth, aonori, thyme, shiso kombu — I enjoyed this dish! Simple, rice with white tuna(although kinda weird that you had to break up your own tuna chunks…) with dashi broth. Simple, like a homecooked meal, but oddly positioned at the end of the meal. With the Domokase, you get a choice of three desserts. I went with the hojicha pudding. I liked the toasted rice(?) on top of the hojicha pudding which added to the smoky flavor. It was good, but I still love Cha An’s black sesame crème brûlée. I liked my experience, but I wasn’t mindblown by anything in particular.

Stick to the handrolls. Don’t waste $ on the sushi. I was anticipating this dinner for weeks after seeing mouth watering pictures from my friends on instagram. I finally had a chance to visit DOMODOMO and sit at the sushi bar last night for my birthday, and. it’s been the biggest let down, and possibly going to be the least memorable birthday dinner I’ve had for at least the last 8 years. It was to a point where I tried to convince myself that my food was ah-mazing when in fact it really was nothing more than good. Happy 26th to me, not(OK, not really that* depressing, but yeah). We opted for the Handroll Sampler($ 30) and the Handroll Course($ 45) and added two uni handrolls, 2 pieces of chu-toro, 2 pieces scallop, 2 pieces botan ebi sushi on top. The Handroll Sampler consisted of: Chawanmushi with black truffle sauce, Unagi handroll, blue crab handroll, salmon handroll, and negitoro handroll. The Handroll Course consisted of: Chawanmushi, shrimp apple salad, your choice of either an unagi handroll or yellowtail handroll, salmon sushi(they also give u two bonus pieces of sushi now), negitoro handroll, blue crab handroll, lobster handroll, and choice of desert. Onto the food itself now: SUSHI: Honestly did not even think I should’ve been charged full price for the sushi pieces ordered. The rice was HARD! For some reason the rice used for the sushi was much harder than the rice in my rolls. It was literally undercooked. Scallop was overly peppered and no longer tasted like a scallop to me. Botan Ebi was good with a nice bounce, but what good is it with hard rice? The biggest upset was the chu-toro sushi. Chu-toro wasn’t top of the line already at $ 9 a piece, but the rice was an ultimate killer. Nonetheless, average chu-toro is still soft, somewhat buttery, and still some fatty goodness… but all i tasted was a bite of soft fish plus another bite of hardened rice. UGHHH. Waste of $ 40 for these 6 pieces of sushi. Chawanmushi: Now this one is amazing. The Chawanmushi at DOMODOMO is worth 5 stars on it’s own. It’s so soft and perfectly flavored. The black truffle sauce on top isn’t overwhelming and gives the whole dish this overall earthy taste. Two thumbs up! Shrimp Apple Salad: I’m not a fan of yuzu. Nope. But for some reason, the yuzu worked well with the bitterness of the arugula in the salad. Now the shrimp tasted like Thai food. Heavily flavored in a sweet chile sauce, but the shrimp did not pair well with the salad. Negitoro Handroll: Sounds amazing yeah? The word«toro» in there was like music to my ears. But nope. Ever tasted the premade mashed up unwanted toro pieces with scallion they sell in Mitsuwa? That’s how this tasted like. It was so mushy and bland with no texture. I was not happy eating this, and this was one of the rolls that I tried to force myself into believing that it tasted like a piece of heaven. Definitely not high quality fish here in this handroll. Unagi Handroll: Another big hit for the night. The unagi here tastes smokey and isn’t overtly sweet like a lot of other places. That chocolate dollop on top of the unagi was surprisingly good. Blue Crab Handroll: WINNER! Who knew blue crab could/would taste so good? The flavor was so intense and stood out from the rest of the meal. The blue crab is definitely a little on the fishier side, but that’s what I love. If you’re a seafood lover, you would love this. It worked really well with the crispy seaweed. Salmon Handroll: BORING. No need to describe. Yawn*. Lobster Handroll: I was not a fan. I love lobster, but this one was just awkward. The lobster is buttered, and honestly, butter+rice+seaweed? Ugh. It was not good. I took one bite and chugged water. Uni and Chive Handroll: Uni was fresh, but the chives did nothing for me. The seaweed also masked the taste of the uni. I would’ve preferred it in sushi form(ok, or not cause the sushi sucked). Dessert: We chose the green tea ice cream. It was average. Should’ve gone for something else. Another thing: It was my birthday and though one can’t expect anything free. this place is stingy AF. They couldn’t even include a comp dessert even though the reservation was made for my birthday weeks in advance. I mean, DOMODOMO isn’t expensive, but it’s definitely not inexpensive. Our bill ended up being around $ 180 for two with drinks — and giving me a free scoop of ice cream just as a nice gesture really doesn’t take a lot of effort. And I honestly don’t think their food is worth what they charge after my own experience.

Cozy little place and by far the most unique sushi experience I’ve had. We stopped in thinking it was a sushi place… it is not a typical sushi place at all! Highly recommend a reservation as there isn’t much room but for a few tables or the«bar» area. We were lucky to get a spot at the bar without a reservation which was great to get to see the food prepared. This place is pricey & the food is tiny but very good and was a special treat. Oyster sampler was fantastic. We just selected some of the hand rolls separately and they were nothing like a hand roll that I’ve ever had. By far my favorite was the lobster. The chef prepared them in front of us and made suggestion for eating them which was great. Service was polite & attentive with out being smothering. I hope I get to swing in here every time I am in NYC!

My out-of-town friend and I decided to try Domodomo last night to catch up, and it was the perfect girldate spot — calm, clean, with lovely service and a good drink menu. I’d imagine this also makes Domodomo a suitable romantic date spot. To kick off the meal, we were given a little stone with two holes in it — one for yuzu water, one for a compressed towel tablet. Drop the tablet in the water, and voila! Clean hands that smell like the best fruit on earth. Both of us ordered the Hand Roll Course to keep decision-making to a minimum, and each course/piece that came out made us very happy. The chawanmushi was the first course(pictured below); it had an unusual gelatinous layer on top holding bits of black truffle, and the color was more orange/brown than your typical chawanmushi. It was mesmerizingly good. Next came the shrimp apple arugula salad(pictured below), which had some unusual fruity and citrusy flavor to it. Following these two starters came the sushi and hand rolls: Blue fin tuna, branzino(w/shiso pesto), salmon, blue crab, and yellowtail. The branzino sushi was so amazing that I ordered a second piece. Of note, the sushi chef put just the right amount of wasabi under each piece of sushi. Worth noting that the sake selection seems well curated. I tried a Dassai 50 nigori sake — after I submit this review I’m heading out to buy a bottle for myself. My glass came in a traditional box with a generous amount of extra sake poured inside the box. I regret to report that I spilled the excess on myself as I got to the bottom of the glass, but seemingly nobody but my friend witnessed this. ^_~ My dessert of choice was a small slice of green tea cheesecake. In my opinion, the desserts fall very short of the caliber of the rest of the menu. But the rest of the menu was incredible and made me a very happy eater. p. s. — This restaurant uses Unilocal’s SeatMe for reservations, which is quite convenient. No more receiving phone calls from restaurants to confirm the day of… you just reply to a text message.

Oh man, this place is ah-mazing. We went with a handroll course tasting, here’s the low-down: — Chawanmushi — good, but not earth shattering. — Shrimp peach salad — whatever that dressing is, I want it. Bottled. — Salmon sushi — so fresh, so good. — Negi toro hand roll — best freaking hand roll on planet earth. — Blue crab hand roll — 2nd best freaking hand roll on planet earth. — Unagi hand roll — NOMMY. Lobster hand roll — decadent and rich. — The uni pasta is a cannot miss. A must order. A get in my belly now dish. — Skip the scallop, I thought it was too sweet. — The Hojicha pudding looked so much like Chawanmushi, I thought they had mixed up our dishes! It was just a touch sweet and the perfect note to end my meal. Loved the sake options. Tips: Since it’s a tasting, don’t move the stone plate down to your level — it’s there so he can present the next course to you. And the course after that, and after that… Next time around, I think I’ll be more strategic in my ordering, as I was ridiculously full by the end of this meal. Oh, they don’t take Amex here, btw.

Domo Arigato. So this is a fairly new sushi addition and to be honest, I only came here due to the overwhelming positive reviews I saw on Unilocal. The restaurant is fairly small, it’s just a long narrow bar with a few small tables on the side, make sure to make reservations. Overall, I was happy with my meal but the best way to sum up my experience, it was a good meal for someone who just started with Omakase. I felt the flavors weren’t as explosive as I was expecting and I didn’t have those OMG bites that a lot of Omakase places have. Also, I left not feeling full and no Uni? Whomp Whomp The food: Oyster Sampler– Jumbo oyster with scallop, yuzu foam, ikura, 2 Kumamoto with momijo oroshi and 2 Blue point with mango salsa. The Jumbo Oyster was good, it had a nice sweetness from the yuzu foam and it was really refreshing, the scallop had nice texture and flavor. The Kumamoto was shockingly on the bland side, Kumamoto is one of my favorite oysters and I was pretty disappointed. The Blue point had too much going on, also the flavor was a tad off putting and $ 19 is kinda pricey. Domokase: Jumbo oyster with scallop– Scallop, aonori, yuzu foam, ikura. The yuzu was a tad sweet but a nice complement, both the scallop and oyster had nice flavor but I did prefer the scallop. Chawanmushi– Egg custard, black truffle sauce. Chawanmushi had a really nice, earthy and clean flavor but oddly was a tad one note. The more you ate the custard, the more it lost it’s umph. I also thought the scallion was completely overpowering.
Chutoro Nigiri– Overall with all the sushi pieces, I was really happy with the texture of the rice but I thought the rice was under seasoned. The chutoro tasted pretty standard. It was good but not amazing. Marinated Salmon Nigiri– The Salmon was very unctuous and fatty, the flavor was good. Spanish Mackerel Nigiri– This was one of the favs of the night, the meat was surprisingly puffy but the flavor and texture of the fish was great.
House smoked Kampachi Nigiri– This was another fav, it was so unique here, it had a squid like texture and really nice, clean flavor.
King Salmon with olive salt– This was another fav, it had such a great mouth feel, it was slightly smoky and the salt paired well. Scallop with yuzukosho Nigiri. The scallop was perfect, it had such a wonderful texture but the yuzukosho was too aggressive for me, I thought it took away from the delicate scallop flavor. Japanese Spot Prawn with caviar Nigiri. This was another fav, it had such a smooth consistency to the shrimp and such a natural sweetness. Negi toro hand roll– Toro, scallion. The Negi toro was good but the fish was surprisingly mild in flavor. And no pics because you can’t really see anything inside the hand roll. Lobster hand roll– Butter Sous vide lobster. This was my favorite hand roll, the lobster was bursting with flavor that it was surprising. The lobster meat was so sweet and delicious. Unagi hand roll– House smoked eel, chocolate kabayaki sauce. This is kinda their signature hand roll. I thought it was nice, the Unagi had a nice smokey flavor and the seaweed was perfect crunchy. As weird as it sounds, the eel with the smokey flavor kinda reminded me of pastrami. This was called a hand roll but it’s put on the plate deconstructed and you have to fold it yourself. White Tuna chazuke– Dashi broth, aonori, thyme, shiso kombu. I did not like this dish. I thought it was such a weird plate to finish the meal with since it was kinda like a consume with some overcooked fish. It almost felt like it was part of someone else’s meal.
Hojicha Pudding– The pudding was great, it was kinda like black sesame ice cream but not as sweet.

I was dubious about this restaurant at first. I have it a chance because of the review. Amazing is an over used word — it’s beginning to annoy me. Therefore, I will simply say outstanding! The yuzu foam on my oyster lent a perfect mild citrus touch to my oysters that I saved some for the other 4 on my plate. My salad with shrimp was alright but I think next time, I would rather have the cucumber salad our friend had. The chawanmushi said my friends was excellent. Uni pasta — this is so far a better version I have had. Maybe because I like the soupy sauce with cheese taste but it was very light. It really did not need the uni. However, it complimented each other since uni tends to be milky in taste when I eat it. It is served with a little black caviar on top — not the cheap kind. They had Hojicha pudding which is like a green tea cream in a cup(little amount) with some gel on top — maybe just to sweeten a bit as you spoon the dessert garnished with some seeds on top. Not too sweet. My salad and hand roll are good but I wouldn’t say Wow! I wish the Megu Toro was not chopped up in the center of my rice. I would have rather had a piece of toro cut in the rice wrapped in seaweed. I like it because it’s not predictable. And their uni pasta which was a fusion, is actually very good. Better than expected. The sauce was light and not to powerful for the delicate uni.

I made a reservation here for a friend and myself. The restaurant is mainly a long sushi bar with just a few tables. I arrived on a cold and rainy night and was one of the only people at the restaurant. They sat me right by the door. I asked if I could be moved further away, so they moved me one seat over. Seriously? The restaurant did fill up as time went on, but I was there first and there was no reason not to move me over. Not a good start. I found the hand rolls to be really good, but small. My friend and I were still hungry at the end of the meal. They are not very filling. Interesting and tasty experience, but I would not come back.

KenScale: 8.5÷10 I wasn’t sure what to expect when I stepped inside DOMODOMO, a new Japanese/sushi place that opened at the former dining space of long-time neighborhood favorite Ushiwakamaru, which shut down and moved its shop to Chelsea. I came in with relatively modest expectations despite my dining companion’s enthusiasm after seeing a beautiful photo of uni hand roll on our mutual friend’s Instagram. It turned out that the dinner at this relatively modest place was one of the more underrated dining experiences of this year. The restaurant has a moderately priced(at $ 68 per person) omasake menu it calls«Domokase.» When jumbo oyster with scallop and yuzu foam came, I wasn’t quite sold yet, as the different combination of flavor and texture didn’t add up. Then came the chawanmushi with black truffle sauce, and everything became instantly much better afterwards. The 7 pieces of sushi afterwards were all very fresh, most of them blow-torched to create awesome texture, from seabream to king salmon with olive salt to prawn with caviar to kanpachi(amberjack). The restaurant is really trying to sell itself as the first restaurant specializing in «hand roll.» All of the rolls in the omakase menu(including the silky smooth smoke eel and lobster) were delicious, but really we had to separately order uni hand roll(which wasn’t part of the omakase menu), and absolutely loved the delicate balance of texture. The savory part of the meal ended with delightfully aromatic white tuna chazuke(rice on dashi broth) that was very soothing to my palate. The desserts that we tried(green tea cheese cake and hojicha pudding) were equally delicious and ended the meal on a more or less perfect note. The biggest surprise/disappointment in this meal was the uni pasta, which turned out to be a little too creamy but it didn’t much dampen the quality of my dining experience. Do try to get your seating at the sushi bar(I can’t stress enough how much better your experience will be vs. sitting at the table). The restaurant has a full bar; their cocktail menu seems mostly Asian-inspired and wine list was somewhat underwhelming(I probably should’ve stuck with sake). Getting a reservation wasn’t particularly hard and the place wasn’t as packed compared to the quality of the food here(maybe it was because we came in on for dinner on the night before Thanksgiving). DOMODOMO is definitely a restaurant I’d like to recommend for an awesome Japanese/sushi dining experience; it helps that the price is a relative bargain too.

I thought this restaurant served pretty good handrolls. I really enjoyed the long bar seating that they have. I had gotten the handroll sampler and my friend got the handroll course. Wish we tried the uni pasta though! When you first arrive, there is a little stone in front of you with a dime size towel. They pour water into the adjacent hole and you dump the towel in it. The towel soaks up the water and you can use it to wipe your hands. So cute and cool! Some rolls to get– –Lobster hand roll — This was my favorite hand roll. Chunks of lobster meat. –Unagi hand roll — This is definitely the most unique roll. They smoke the eel in house — It was delicious. They put a dallop of chocolate sauce on top. I know, I thought it would be weird but it actually complemented really nicely with the eel. –Uni hand roll — I am a BIGBIGBIG uni fan. This wasn’t the best uni I’ve had but they were very generous with the piece of uni. Santa Barbara uni — sweet. I would recommend doing the handroll sampler and then adding pieces you like on top!

A handroll bar! Had my birthday dinner here a few nights ago — they were very accommodating with my extreme tardiness. I would recommend making a reservation here ahead of time, though it seemed like they weren’t as crowded as I thought they would and should be on a Saturday night. Not even a line or anything! In my opinion, DOMODOMO is underrated and is a gem of a place that doesn’t seem to be too hyped up by the foodie crowd yet. The prices are reasonable, quality of food is excellent, and the service is impeccable. We were seated at the counter and served by at least three people working there. Their Japanese beer is amazing — and I don’t even really like beer. The cool yuzu-smelling self-expanding hand towel thing is an added part of the whole experience. To start, we got the duck udon, which at $ 10, is actually very, very well priced. The duck was tender, not overcooked, and had so much flavor in it. The broth was flavorful, too. The udon noodles were of perfect consistency — overall a 10⁄10 for this dish. I would say however, ordering this alone would not make you full. For the rest of our meal, we got the handroll sampler($ 30). We started with a mini black truffle chawanmushi that was just absolutely delicious. The black truffle was there, but wasn’t overpowering like you might think it would be. So good! The rest of the hand rolls — fatty tuna, salmon, unagi, and crab were all so good and so fresh. Even the seaweed was good! I liked the hand rolls versus a roll of sushi because it seems like you get much more fish in your roll and can control how big of a bite you want. Somehow it’s just… different. The guy serving us waited until we finished each one and continued to serve us, kind of like omakase-style. To finish, we had the squid ink pasta with uni, caviar, and cheddar dashi. It reminded me of a very high class mac and cheese, only because of the cheddar dashi. The squid ink pasta was probably the best textured pasta I’ve ever had — beyond perfectly cooked. The only complaint I have with this dish is that it could have had more uni and I’m not sure how I felt about the cheddar being thrown into the mix — very unconventional. Overall, very happy with DOMODOMO and I’m glad I chose this lesser known place for my birthday dinner!

I finally had a chance to try out DOMODOMO with a friend this past Saturday and I am in LOVEE!!! We literally ate for two hours straight because everything looked so good that we ended up ordering what everyone else was ordering. After reading all the Unilocal reviews, I finally understand what everyone was talking about(super crispy seaweed). The two of us each had: Eel Hand Roll — Super delicious! Eel with chocolate sauce(yes, CHOCOLATESAUCE) on top of rice and wrapped with their super crispy seaweed. Blue Crab Hand Roll — A decent amount of shredded crab meat, seasoned with garlic aioli, over rice, and wrapped with crispy seaweed. –this was the first hand roll that we tried and it was so fresh and light. So good! Lobster Hand Roll — Chunks of lobster meat, seasoned with butter, over rice, and wrapped with crispy seaweed.- This was amazing as well but I liked the blue crab more. Fried Oyster Hand Roll — TACOSTYLE! what? Fried oyster, relish, over rice, wrapped with seaweed, AND lime on the side for you to squeeze! Yummy! Toro Hand Roll — So fresh and delicious, literally melts in your mouth! — But I prefer the Toto Sushi(by the piece) instead. :) Uni Hand Roll — Uni, rice, seaweed. FRESH and DELICIOUS!(c’mon, it’s uni!) Black Cod Hand Roll — The black cod was SOOOOO flavorful and so good. It melts in your mouth and you can definitely taste the miso glaze! YUMM! Uni Squid Ink Pasta — Perfect portion to share between two people! The squid ink taste was very light and the uni went well with it. The sauce that coated the pasta was delicious! Definitely getting this again! Miso Eggplant — This was a little too much for me!(but then again, by the time this came, we already had so much food!) It was sweet and salty at the same time and served with arugula. Still pretty good. Egg with Black Truffle Sauce — This was amazing! The egg was so soft and the truffle sauce was light and went well with the egg. Mmm! Oyster Sampler — This came with three different types of oysters, All of them are a must! Definitely have to try this! For dessert, we ordered the green tea cheesecake and the pudding. I LOVEEEEEDDD the pudding. The cheesecake was so heavy and I didn’t really taste the green tea flavor but the pudding was to die for! The pudding was very light and had roasted rice on top that gave a nice texture. This whole experience was wonderful, the staff there was very friendly as well. Cannot wait to come back here again! FIVESTARS! :)

A cute little Japanese restaurant that has a phenomenal food and a fantastic service! Our waitress was absolutely adorable, friendly, accommodating and knowledgable. Hands down to The tasting menu!!! 8 tasty courses for $ 68pp. It’s absolutely inexpensive for the quality they offer. They also have a la carte. But, I would highly recommend the tasting menu! GOFORTHETASTINGMENU! The chef mastered Every single plate came out from the kitchen. Everything was phenomenal and mouth watering. One of their speciality and I believe it’s a must to try is their squid ink pasta in some kinda light cheese sauce topped with uni and caviar. Texture, flavor and presentation was FANTASTICO! … And good portion for only $ 17

From start to finish, everything about my meal at DOMODOMO was amazing. My friend and I got here about 7:30pm. No reservations but we were seated quickly right at the bar. Simple décor, soft lighting, warm ambiance. Great for a date or low-key evening catching up with a friend, as was the occasion tonight. We decided on the hand roll sampler course, which included chawanmushi, peach+shrimp salad, 4 hand rolls(negi toro, blue crab, lobster and choice of unagi or yellowtail), salmon sushi(1) and choice of dessert. Chawanmushi was some of the best I’ve ever had. Silky in consistency with a tasty black truffle sauce to accompany. The salad was just incredible. Crisp greens, sweet peaches and shrimp cooked perfectly in a blend of sweet and spicy chili sauce. I could eat this everyday. The hand rolls were also perfection. I loved watching our chef prepare them. Of the 4, I enjoyed the negi toro and lobster the most. The seaweed was so crisp. The rice was the perfect amount, texture and consistency. Fish was so FRESH. We ended up ordering an extra negi tori handroll each and with that, was sufficiently full. Our chef gave both of us an oyster mushroom hand roll on the house right after though — how could we refuse? Well, I don’t think I’ve ever had oyster mushrooms as great as this. Excellent. Don’t overlook the veggie hand rolls guys. I picked the chestnut panna cotta as my dessert. This was the perfect end to an amazing meal. The most subtle chestnut flavor but the panna cotta was top notch and melt in your mouth. Our meal was timed perfectly and service was also great. I cannot wait to come back!
