The food is ok, but too expensive. They serve it in a white box like in food carts outside. Not worth it. Better to have chicken biryani or chicken over rice for 5 bucks in carts near brown brothers. I would not come here again.

Food is decent. Not a whole lot of selection, but enough to choose from. One major downside? The depth of their food plates has decreased by 1⁄3 to ½. You’re not fooling anyone, Diwan-E-Khaas. Also don’t appreciate that they are now so careful to serve smaller portions into the smaller plates. More please, not less!

Bad stuff. Bread is passable. Otherwise you would be smart to move on to something better.

this place is my regular Indian lunch fix spot. the number of the selections of the dishes was cut after Sandy hit, but the food overall is still very tasty. The Naan is very fresh and soft with the perfect crunchiness on the side, i just love it.

Standard to sub-standard indian take out. Everything is prepared on a steam table and the focus is on the lunch crowd. It’s about $ 10 for a choice of a protein and 2 veggies with basmati rice. They’re not too generous with each individual portion, but altogether its a fairly filling lunch. If you get the special, they’ll throw in a Naan bread as well. The Naan was warm and soft. It looked like they make it to order in the clay pot oven in the back. Slim picking for South Asian food in the FiDi. This will do fine if you need a quick indian lunch fix. If this place was anywhere near curry hill. I’d prob drop it down to 1.5−2 stars.

Absolutely horrible place. Do not confuse this Diwan-E-Khaas for the one on Nassau St which is quite good. The place was empty but I though that was only because it was early. I ordered daal makhani and khadi pakoda. Both dishes sucked. Dishes were oily and had thin gravy and just didn’t taste that good. The person working there packed my food really badly causing the 2 dishes to mix and come out of the container. Some splattered on my shirt. There was a $ 10 credit card limit which they did not post or inform me about until the end. I had to buy a Snapple to top off.

I got the chicken tikka masala, which was really vibrant red. The food wasn’t even warm and they were scraping the bottom of the pan before they changed out the tray. When I got upstairs, the chicken was very fatty and fibrous. It was not good at all. The saag paneer was unusually green as if they add food coloring or the food is really old, take your pick. It was ok, taste-wise, but was really mushy and not within the realm of warm either. I got a samosa, which had been clearly left there to sit out for a few hours. It was dry on the inside and hard on the outside. I had to ask them for the mint chutney or else they would not have thrown it in the bag… very disappointing and had the runs for the rest of the afternoon. Oddly enough, it’s namesake on Nassau is pretty good!

Truly regret not Unilocaling this place before venturing inside. Don’t be seduced by the lunch special posters they have plastered outside the restaurant and the decent sized lunch crowd. Payed $ 10 for a platter with achari chicken, chana, and palak paneer. The chicken was def made without achar, the chana tasted like something someone experimenting with desi food for the first time would have made, and their was no paneer in my palak. Lesson? Even by the low standards in fidi, avoid this place at all costs.

I agree with the first reviewer here. The Diwan E Khaas on Nassau St is better.

There are like tons of these Diwan Khas indian places in the Financial District, no? I liked the one on Naussau, but the one near the Financier(on Cedar) was terrible! First, when I walked in it was completely empty. That should have been the first sign. However, I thought that maybe noon was too early. I decided on some chicken marsala and a vegetable curry. The vegetable curry was edible with soft flavors. It was okay and I finished it. However, the chicken marsala was like water! it wasn’t thick and it tasted like nothing. Definitely steer clear of this place! I got excited when I saw an indian place in the Financial District near work… however, it was just a bust.
