I hope other Fund for Public Art stuff that happens in the future is half as cool as this. Also, I gave one less star only because we had a serious snafu because of the exhibit closing early in anticipating of Hurricane Sandy, and the last-minute e-mail was useless because were were traveling pretty far by train to get there. Admittedly, that’s a pretty out of the ordinary incident. Fortunately, the folks manning the desk inside the Time-Warner mall were pretty organized about helping us re-schedule, and it turned out to be something fun that we were able to do late in the week when schools were still closed for hurricane-related reasons. Such a terrific idea, and very well executed.

A little late to review, but such a great exhibit(is it down now?). The view of the park and the overall concept was really amazing. check out public art fund’s website for some other great exhibits, e.g., the Fir Tree at Central Park.

Wow. What great fun. A living room suspended in the air with the Christopher Columbus statue in the middle of the room.

Was lucky enough to catch this exhibit during my last visit to NYC. Tatzu Nishi’s «Discovering Columbus» is really amazing as it’s a fancy living room built around the statue of Christopher Columbus on top of scaffolding. You get to see the statue up close as well as unique views around Columbus Circle. A truly incredible experience!

You’ve only got a few more days to visit before this loopy, unique, brilliant art installation is dismantled. Get your ticket online and climb the six flights to the«living room» at the top.(Those with physical disabilities can take the small elevator, but no strollers allowed.) I’d seen pictures online, but still I burst out laughing upon entering: The crazy mismatch in scale between the statue and its quotidian surroundings is just surreal. They say you have to leave after 10 – 15 minutes, but I didn’t see that rule enforced. Stay for a few extra minutes to examine the custom wallpaper and the books on the bookshelves. The little details really add to the enjoyment. A wonderful, only-in-New-York experience.

This is pretty cool, i mean, it’s columbus statue made living room! Who came up with such a thing? Few tips, this«exhibition» ends Dec 2nd, 2012, go get your free tickets online! Then come on the day/time of your ticket, the whole thing is like 30mins. Get in line, climb up the stairs and you have 10−15minutes to hang out in the living room. I think this is really cool thing to do, make sure you get your tickets in advance!

It’s time to restore the Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Circle, so why not turn the scaffolding and restoration enclosure into an art opportunity? Genius. Tatzu Nishi’s «Discovering Columbus» is a room that has been built over scaffolding, surrounding the statue of Christopher Columbus in Columbus Circle. The room is set up like someone’s(huge) living room, complete with couches, bookshelves, and a TV. You can read the paper if you like, or watch some CNN. The windows and outside platforms provide unique views of Central Park & the streets surrounding. The statue of Columbus looks comical on the coffee table, and it’s clear that he could use some work — he appears to be made out of concrete, but that’s actually marble. The exhibit is free, but you need timed tickets. It was supposed to close this weekend, but has been extended to December 2nd.
