After leaving the 9⁄11 memorial I needed a pick me up snack… what’s better than donuts? By the time we got here they only had glazed, sprinkle and, buttermilk. The buttermilk glaze tastes divine!

Doughnuts are fried which is what I like in a doughnut– as opposed to those fake cake doughnuts… However it seems like the doughnut I had here was fried in oil that wasn’t hot enough. It was oily and the glaze tasted very synthetic. It didn’t feel light and airy and sweet like a good doughnut should. It tasted fried and heavy and like artificial sweetener and processed ingredients. Good if you’re on a diet because it will make you very aware of how bad one of these is for you, enough maybe to throw it away. The service was even worse than the doughnut. This counter is attached to the carvel cake counter and only gets served when one of the carvel employees feels like meandering over. I started out in a 3 person line. After no one attended to us for 5 minutes there was one defector. Eventually I went over to the cake line and flagged down someone to attend to the doughnut customers. This shop is some weird second thought add-on that must have been the result of a corporate merger or something. If you’re looking for a homestyle counter this is not it; fast food processed garbage all the way.

You could easily miss Daylight Donuts walking down the street because it is in the same location as the Carvel and Kung Fu Tea(think Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins combo stores). But they have donuts for just $ 1, and bigger pastries for $ 1.50. Great deal for a quick sugar fix. Not the same caliber as Dough or Donut Plant, but they do have a maple frosted donut that is unique and pretty delicious.

Second time I came(Fall)… Alright I’m adding a star. The guy who helped me was amazing, friendly and turned my frown upside down. I told him I came last time and was soooo sad. They had many many options to choose from. I got a maple one and old fashion. Can’t wait to dig my teeth into these guys. Ahhhh I just ate my donuts OMG they are lite and fluffy and flavor and made daily the man told me which I can really tell. the maple glaze was heaven in my mouth. It was honestly a really good donut considering I won’t be going to Seattle for my maple bars. I did show the guy the maple bars and he said they can make it. So I will be back tomorrow and hopefully they will have it. I have a road trip that is happening tomorrow evening so I will stop by this spot before I head into work. My friend JUST told me they have them in KC. So now she wants an order too. I think Im spreading the positive word high and low… First time I came…(Summer time)… I came here to only be disappointed! No one was there to help me(after walking 20mins) or answer my questions. I just wanted to check this spot out. I was super excited that they had maple glaze and I ended up walking empty handed back to work! Very sad day. The sandwich spot and carvels had people lined up and workers working… Soooo my suggestion is come early before everything is sold out and people might be working. I mean really everyone eats donuts all day long!!! Especially after lunch. I want donuts. I saw someone go 1month ago and get some tasty treats. I’m not giving up.

Why aren’t there more of these in the city? I had the old fashion glazed and a boston crème, both were ridiculous!

Sharing an odd mini food court with Carvel/etc., was served up a $ 1 maple cake donut with sprinkles — pretty decent, staffer half asleep.

It was surprisingly good! Next door to a bubble tea place — they offer lemon iced donuts, which I’ve never seen anywhere! It was very very good! Dough was just soft enough with a nice crispness on top and icing laid on nicely, not sloppily in most places. A nice surprise!
