I quite honestly cannot believe I never got around to reviewing this place — it is probably one of my favorite meals I have had to date. Atmosphere — definitely small, but we crammed 6 people into a four person table and they were pretty nice about it. Cozy homey feel to the restaurant but at the same time slightly upscale. Service — this floored me. Honestly my friends and I are a bunch of 25 – 29 year olds who, while don’t look trashy or anything, also don’t look like they’d scream huge tippers to a server(we do, I swear! I’m just saying most millenials probably come off that way), especially when cramming in a group of 6. But despite our appearance and how we we would probably be treated elsewhere, we were pretty much treated like royalty here, and that really speaks to this whole homey vibe in the restaurant. Everyone is SOFRIENDLY! The waiter was CONSTANTLY coming over to check in on us and joking with us the whole night. We had explained that our friend was vegan and he listed off this slew of vegan friendly specials they had that night(pumpkin ravioli?! yes please) and then when we all ordered dessert except for her, he clearly realized it was because there was no vegan desserts available and thoughtfully brought over a complimentary plate of dessert baguette things(which she shared, and they were AMAZING). When I asked for dinner which was better — the gnocchi or the steak, he told me that he honestly loved both and he actually suggested me doing a half and half plate(really!?! most restaurants would hate for you to do this, so the fact that he was the one that suggested it floored me, absolute perfection). At the end of our meal, we sat finishing our bottle of wine and did not feel rushed at all, which is always nice. Food — I mean, from what I have heard, they make a lot of their pastas themselves, so obviously the gnocchi was to die for. From what I recall, one of my friends got the warm octopus as an appetizer and loved it. I did not get an appetizer, but the bread that comes with your meal beforehand is not your average bread. Probably the best free bread I’ve ever had in my life. And they’re not skimpy either, they kept bringing it out after seeing us destroy our basket haha. The majority of our table ordered the steak — the potato cake that came with it was delicious and the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. You didn’t leave feeling bloated and disgusting(despite the fact that I just killed a ton of bread, wine, gnocchi, steak, and potatoes, as a 110lb girl), which is the true sign of good food, in my opinion. I will say that one friend got a veal special and was left wishing he had gotten the steak from our groans of pleasure. He said it wasn’t bad, but just wasn’t amazing. Would definitely come back because I want to try all of their other pastas that I saw people eating. Would definitely recommend.

This is a regular that we’ve been enjoying for years! We started at their Hudson St location over ten years ago and then followed them to this location. The staff is like family always friendly service and eager to please. Pastas are always good. My fave is the squid ink tagliolini, papardelle or if a meat the lamb shank. Every time we go a must is the meats and cheese with house made bread. Always look forward to returning!

I’m so underwhelmed. I ordered the penne eggplants. Gosh. There were merely any eggplants in it, like perhaps 5 tiny pieces overall. By tiny, I mean tiny bits, like a small cereal flake. The reason I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1 was the fact that the pasta sauce and bread weren’t bad. That’s it.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Went on a Saturday night and was seated immediately. Loved the atmosphere and has a «hole in the wall» feel to it which I especially love with Italian restaurants. Ordered the le tigelle as an appetizer and it was fantastic. Ordered the zuppe di pesce and the person I was with ordered the gnocchi. Both were hot, fresh, and delicious. Prices were very reasonable and service was fantastic. Not sure if it was the manager or the owner that I met but he was very friendly and made you feel like he was inviting you into his house for Sunday dinner. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.

I was undecided about a 3 or 4 star, but I couldn’t justify based on tastiness of the food. Prices are great. Service is good. Ambiance very good. Freshness of food is also very good. But, there was no wow factor. We had the special salad of Gorgonzola, pear, radicchio, etc and it was good. My date had the black ink pasta with clams and it was tasteless. That’s hard to do. I had the lamb shank. It was a terrific piece if meat cooked perfectly. But It had very little taste and flavor(and I don’t like salt). The veggies were okay though the cannoli Beans were too mushed and the others tasted like frozen. I ordered s bottle of Sardinian red, which I’ve had at home, except this was by a different producer and much inferior. Would I go back? Not soon. The last time we were there was at least 5 years ago. Maybe in 5 more years?

Enjoyed a nice dinner here last night. We enjoy outdoor dining and were able to get seated outside. We ordered a ½ liter of wine for just $ 15. Shortly after we placed our dinner order it began to rain. The staff quickly moved us inside with no problems. We started with the organic salad and grilled vegetables appetizers. Both portions were large enough to share. The restaurant makes its own pasta. The pastas were fresh and flavorful. I had the grilled shrimp entrée, which was very good. We finished with the chocolate cake The prices are very reasonable for Manhattan and the service was very attentive.

Da Andrea is one of my go to places in NYC. Whenever friends are in town or people ask me for a recommendation for Italian in the city I always refer them here. There is a charm about the place that makes everything feel very old school. Most importantly the pasta is incredible. The gnocchi in the Gorgonzola sauce is delicious. The pappardelle in the tomato sauce and truffle is amazing. The steamed mussels are also a must. I am giving them four stars because every time I have had the desert it has been just okay, nothing special. Seriously recommend this place for some of the most delicious pasta!

This place is officially on the list for go to affordable italian! Warm and cozy atmosphere, a menu that has just the right amount of tasty variety and a great house red?! Check, check, check. They start you off with complimentary bread and dipping oil(focaccia was my fave). We then split a bowl of the broccoli soup, which was smoothly blended to perfection. For entrees I had the veal ravioli. Being the carnivore that I am I really enjoyed these raviolis as they were stuffed completely with tender veal, no cheese just meat! The raviolis were tossed in a great cream sauce with mushrooms and prosciutto. My boyfriend got the pappardelle with bolognese. This was also super flavorful. The experience here was great, service was attentive and friendly definitely plan on coming back.

Great little find! Decent priced, great food. Got gorgonzola gnocci and the special salad of the day. Both were great! There’s a fee tables outside the restaurant so try and grab one of them for some al fresco dining :)

Service is always fantastic every time I dine here. The waiters are friendly and do not try to rush you out when the place is packed(come before 7pm). To be honest, the appetizers are much better than the entrees. My favorite ones are: 1. Tigelle buns with prosciutto and Parmesan 2. Warm octopus Now to the pastas. I like the veal ravioli but the portion is small. If you’re hungrier, get the pesto cavatelli. You get a lot of pasta and a generous amount of seafood. I do not like the squid ink pasta. I think it is bland and fishy. The salmon fillet is pretty boring but you get two large pieces. The tiramisu is mediocre. The bottom of the dessert is too drenched and mushy for me.

I’d give Da Andrea a solid 4.5 stars. The service was very nice and patient, and the food tastes really good while being reasonably priced. The space has a very homey and comfortable feel. [FOOD] Calamaretti(Calamari): This is an awesome appetizer. It’s actually much different from normal calamari, as it’s grilled instead of fried. You get 4 pieces of clean-tasting squid as well as two portions of tail. The sauces pair very well with the meat, and there’s a light smokey taste. The salad is pretty light and a good addition to the dish. Pappardelle: I saw that a lot of people recommended this dish, so I decided to get it, and I was very happy. The portion is actually slightly smaller than that of other places, which I like because then you don’t waste food or gorge yourself. The sauce is super meaty and delicious. The pasta was al dente and great. There was an undertone of truffle that added a subtle layer to the already great taste. I’d definitely come back to have this again. [OVERALL] If I want some good Italian food, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back for more. It’s a really good restaurant!

Da Andrea is super close to my work place and had fantastic reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to mosey in after our work days. + The host was very friendly and the restaurant was pretty busy considering it was a weekday. The restaurant has a very authentic Italian and rustic ambiance, very cute for date night :) I feel like the place is family owned! + The night started with a complimentary BASKETOFFRESHBREAD and olive oil/balsamic which is always a plus for me! They are also very generous with wine servings — I ordered the delicious and sweet HOUSERED. After we got our drinks, we then started with the… PROSCIUTTOPLATTER with FLATBREAD that came with a side of PARMESAN. It was the first time I saw bread served flat and round like that with prosciutto and it was actually so delicious! The bread was perfect with a great crisp on the outside and a soft doughiness on the inside. The imported prosciutto was well-aged and flavorful as well! But, the Parmesan was sub par compared to the rest of the platter. I’m not sure if it was fresh or not, but it was a little flaky and dry in a little bowl — it wasn’t very pracitcal. I think the dish would have worked better if the cheese was more spreadable; maybe a fresh mozzarella or maybe even some burrata? Just a suggestion :) Next we ordered the LAMBSHANK. My boyfriend is a huge fan of lamb so he was pleasantly surprised with the big size and the tendetness of the meat. It came dressed with a tomato sauce and side of sauteed vegetables, which were crispy and tender. But, despite the tenderness and tastiness of the lamb, the sauce could have packed a little more of a punch. It was slightly disappointing considering how fantastic the dish looked. Then came the SEAFOODSQUIDINKPASTA. It was covered with clams which was great to see and dressed with oil. The pasta was a little more al denté than I would have liked, but my boyfriend prefers that so it was perfect for him! The pasta portion was also on the smaller side than I would have liked compared to how many clams were on the dish. It was pretty standard for a squid ink pasta, nothing amazing but delicious nonetheless. + Also, The SERVICE is fantastic!!! Italian restaurants that are family owned always have a way with hospitality and they were really great about keeping our waters filled and making sure we were enjoying out meal. All in all, the food was great, nothing too special, but the servive was amazing. The highlight of the meal was definitely the PROSCIUTTOPLATTER and I recommend that for anyone who’s trying the restaurant for the first time or going back for the 10th. If I do come back, I will be coming back just for that!

Da Andrea is not a very memorable restaurant. Apparently, my friends and I had all been there before(same group of people) and none of us remembered it by name. It was only when we all walked in and happened to be seated at the same table did we realize that we’ve already dined there. To start, we ordered ordered a few appetizers: Cozze in guazetto(steamed mussels in a lightly spiced tomato sauce, toasted garlic focaccia) — some of the mussels had sand in them. We also had some mussels in a white wine sauce, which had the same issue. Both of the sauces were just okay. But I did like that the mussels were meaty. A lot(if not most) of the experiences I’ve had with eating mussels at the restaurant, it usually involved really tiny, skinny, mussels that might as well have been counted as plankton instead. Tigelle modenesi con prosciutto(fresh baked tigelle buns with Parma prosciutto) — if you order one appetizer, let it be this. The buns were perfectly warm and toasty. If you’re a big bread lover, you’ll love this. Even the non-bread lovers at the table said it was really good. Plus, the prosciutto was perfect and freshly sliced. For my entrée, I went with the Pappardelle(pappardelle, sweet sausage ragout, truffle oil). This wasn’t the best pappardelle I’ve had but it was passable, though I probably wouldn’t order it again. For dessert, we had a birthday girl at the table so we got the tiramisu and panna cotta. The tiramisu wasn’t anything special. Neither was the panna cotta, which tasted a bit too custardy — almost jello-like. Da Andrea has daily specials that they update each day on their website after 5 pm. So if you want to take a peek at what you might order before you go in that night, the site is your best bet. I don’t think I liked Da Andrea enough to visit a third time. Though I guess the next time I do go will be when I forget about the last two times, walk in, and say, «Oh crap. This place again.»

Da Andrea is one of the few places in New York City where I can eat something fancy for a complete deal. In fact, I hope that too many great reviews don’t make this place explode with business because I can already barely wait the 20 minutes for a table(granted it’s already longer during peak times). I have been here on dates and with friends and the atmosphere is perfect for either. Intimate, and not cutesy. They even take reservations for 4+ size groups. On two occasions I have gotten the pappardelle dish, and let me just say that if this is your first visit here, someone needs to order this! It has an unmistakable wash of truffle oil with al dente noodles and a myriad of rich flavors. Also, their specials tend to be excellent. Once they served a saffron ravioli and every time I hope they have it again… Their house wine is also really smooth. I got a carafe of the red, which was the perfect size for two. It’s a great compliment for the meal.

Da Andrea is nice cozy modern looking Italian restaurant. Good intimate ambiance and great service. Their house wine was really good, I recommend getting a carafe to share. The grilled squid with olives and potatoes was good, cooked perfectly, just chewy enough. As for the pastas, we shared a squid ink pasta and the saffron one. The actual pasta was amazing, perfectly aldente and fresh! But as a general flavors all together, the were a little meh. They definitely needed a little umph.

This place is adorable, cozy, and great for a romantic night out on the town. Or whatever. The wine list is not as extensive as I’d expect from an Italian place but they do give you a hearty serving or whatever you order. The menu is simple and packed full of the classics. I had the stuffed chicken breast and oh my god it is honestly some of the best chicken I have ever had. Place was PACKED already on a Friday night and service was alright but not stellar. Still, highly recommend this place if you want good food and good vibes.

Huge fan of this place. Been here a couple times, always order the bread with the proscuitto. The bread is just so warm, soft and delicious. Like a little pillow for my mouth. I think my review is probably a bit biased, because what I like most about this place is that is comfy and unpretentious. The way that I think dining out should be but generally isn’t, in NYC. Prices are reasonable. Food is good, but not over the top. Drinks are reasonable. I will definitely be back.

Found this place randomly after work and it was a nice find, the food and service is really great generally speaking. I will say that the steak was not a hit and is overpriced. I ordered the spaghetti and my food was pretty good. My dated ordered an additional salad after his steak because it was pretty small. Other then that, the service was good and it was a nice place. I would recommend as a good after work spot or something to try if you are in the neighborhood.

Prosciutto in hot buns — oh man, I’m getting hungry just thinking about them again. Service friendly, food decent, prices reasonable. You enter the restaurant and you get a slight Tuscan ambiance — cozy, unassuming and warm. One thing to note is that they won’t seat you until your whole party is present. Wouldn’t be a problem but there is literally no waiting area or bar. You are just standing in the middle of the bustling area, getting in the way of the servers and busboys. The manager did recommend me to go to a hotel bar across the street until my friend arrived. Also, perhaps they were just having an off-night, but the squid ink pasta was very watery and not so flavorful — would not recommend to order this dish.

If you’re looking for great prices and good food, this is the perfect spot for you. However, if you’re looking for GREAT food. Da Andrea won’t be up to par. Da Andrea is the best bang for your buck in NYC; the lowest city Italian prices that I’ve ever seen! The combo of the ambiance, plate presentation, and low prices make it worth coming. It’s perfect for an impressive, romantic date night or for a family outing without paining your pocket. The complimentary focaccia is one of my favorite parts of Da Andrea. The house red wine is also one of the best I’ve ever had– $ 27 per liter. We started with spicy muscles and the octopus salad special, which were both decent. However, the muscles were a little too big for our liking. My family and I each ordered different dishes: Cavatelli w/shrimp & salmon in a pesto sauce(me) — I saw mixed reviews on Unilocal about this dish, and decided to go for it. Unfortunately the dish was definitely overcooked, which some others have said. Also, the salmon pieces were so dry that I ended up picking around them. Salmon with Artichokes in a Djjon Mustard Sauce(mom) — The salmon was cooked perfectly, but the artichokes were dry and would have been much better with more sauce. Veal & Spinach Ravioli in a cream sauce with prosciutto(dad) — His dish was the star of the night!!! After reading reviews about the Tiramisu being«non-traditional», we had to try it for ourselves. It was a much lighter and less sugary version of Tiramisu, which we loved! Shout out to the staff member, Alan, for walking to the end of the block just to read signs to make sure our car wouldn’t be towed. The sweet staff is another highlight of Da Andrea! Although Da Andrea isn’t the best quality Italian food in NYC, you’re guaranteed good food and a great city experience. I’ll definitely be back soon with my twin brother who couldn’t be with us tonight!

I came here a few weeks ago, and I was whatever da opposite of disappointed was. Da Andrea has both a fun name to say and a delicious menu. We started with da caprese. I’d give it a 7 out of 10, so it was definitely solid but definitely not amazing. But da chefs must have gotten a mid-meal pump up speech, because da mediocrity ended right there. Da squid ink tagliolini(don’t try to pronounce that) was probably a 9 out of 10. It was full of garlic, cherry tomatoes, and more garlic, and tasted amazing. But da best dish was da Cavatelli with pesto, salmon, and shrimp, which was a full 10 out of 10 and was one of da best pasta dishes I’ve ever had. It was absolutely delightful and I would recommend that every single person walking through this neighborhood stop and get some. I would definitely come back here, just to get that dish. So why aren’t you eating here, right now?
