Indian food is supposed to be flavorful and hearty. Lots of spices, fresh and tasty meats, fragrant basmati rice, etc. This place misses the mark on all levels except the rice. If you like good indian food… do not come here. The curry is bland, the saag paneer is watery and devoid of flavor with the paneer broken apart into tiny pieces. The rice is well seasoned. Sooo do yourself a favor and check out another place, there are plenty on this block.

I visited this place this Christmas Eve for dinner with my family. Food is terrible, Chana chat was horrible, I never had such a type of chat in my entire life, Biriyani was like a Fried rice, And on the curry side they use one type of sauce for all curries, Naan was burned, I don’t wanna talk about rest. Price range was ok if compared to other indian place but I would not go back there again.

Horrible service. Food is always cold(been here 6 times before writing a well thought out review). Food always looks and tastes a bit old from like the day before or two. Disgusting… Never coming here again!!!

I wouldn’t eat at this place because of the rude service I received the second I walked in the door. Right away they tried to hustle me into purchasing a huge bottle of Pellegrino when I asked for ice water, and then they kept pushing me into paying for a meat buffet when I’m vegetarian. Why would I pay for something I’m not going to eat? If you’re looking for it did Indian food on this block, I highly recommend you go to the curry restaurant on the same street but closer to 6 Avenue. It has better food, in a much more pleasant environment. The restaurant is cleaner, more modern, and the employees are much nicer.

Great hole in the wall for good Indian food. Staff are friendly and prices are cheap. Definitely worth the stop in

I think I am going to stop coming here. A shame because the food it OK and I have been several times. I even brought a big team of guys here for dinner once. This place is usually pretty empty and I understand why. The service is awful. I hope the owner is reading because it would be simple to turn this place around. I came in for dinner last night. I was the only customer. There were 4 guys working all standing at the bar and chatting. They literally ignored me for a minute or so. Didn’t acknowledge I had entered. The guy taking the order barely grunted as he served me. The food was nice, not outstanding but nice enough. I had the shrimp vindaloo and a garlic naan. Tasty. But getting service was painful. It didn’t come with rice. I had to shout across the room for that. Then getting the bill and paying it was worse. They just sat at the end of the restaurant and argued among each other very loudly. Oblivious to their customers. Totally unacceptable. So many guys stood there shouting and ignoring their customers. It’s like paying customers were an inconvenience.

I won’t recommend this. Real non– Desi friendly restaurant, why Because they treat only for non Desi people. We where not even get complementary starters, no chatneys. The worst thing was he said it’s a last order and we ordered little food in hurry but still people came after our COMPLete dinner was finished and they where ordering one after the other. Purposely we didn’t add any tip and We where forced to pay it. You will end up paying 2SEPARATETAXESAROUND total of $ 10. Try some other restaurants plzzzzzzzz…

We were walking back to our room looking for curry and decided to check this place out. As I was reading the menu the guy came out and greeted us. We went in because of his friendlies. We let them pick which curry just requesting 1 chicken and 1 lamb dish and we like spicy. While waiting we were given a juice. Food was bagged, went to our room and had the spread in bed! Well AMAZING!!! If I lived here I would assuredly go back!!! Only given 4 out of 5 stars as the bathroom was not clean. I’m hoping the kitchen was!

Went here on my vacation. The food was great and the service was good. I got the Vindaloo because I wanted spicy, and that’s what I got

I came here for the $ 11.95 lunch buffet and was very impressed — I definitely will be back. So, I think that it is true that this is not the best Indian food ever, but small things about each of the dishes really stood out to me. Details to follow, though I’ll admit I’m no expert and am just going off my personal impressions: — Tikka Masala — standard, but the chicken was a little juicier than I’m used to getting and the sauce had the slightest hint of a kick — Goat Curry — very good. The meat was tender enough that it slid cleanly off the bone with just a push from my knife, and like the Tikka, had a hint of a kick — Tandoori Chicken — IMPRESSIVE. Usually when I have tandoori chicken, it always looks and smells super good, but the flavor does not fully penetrate past the surface into the meat itself. Plus, the meat can be dry. That was not the case here. The chicken was very flavorful and not dry at all. — Saag Paneer — good but a bit blander than what I am used to — Some type of mixed vegetable curry — super tender veggies, light sauce with a tomato flavor — Some type of stewed cabbage — I’ve never had this before, but I really enjoyed it. It had a meaty flavor and was a great balance to some of the more higher flavor dishes in the buffet — Some type of bean stew — also very tasty. The sauce was light but high umami flavor. Another great dish — RICEPUDDING — WOW! Okay, so I was just expecting your standard post-buffet rice pudding, but this blew me away. The broth/pudding was just so creamy and subtly sweet. I haven’t had anything quite like this before, and was compelled to get seconds even though I was super full by this time. — Naan — They bring out the naan after you sit, which is great becomes that means that each naan basket is fresh. The naan is not quite as fluffy as what I am used to, but still had a dense and rich flavor. I also liked the service and ambience here. Everything felt really chill, quiet, tranquil. Muted color scheme. Unobtrusive waiters. It’s hard for me to put into words, but it just felt like a super-relaxing, laid-back, quiet place to have lunch. A total respite from the hustle and bustle of the street outside. I had not read any reviews before coming here and was a bit surprised considering what a positive experience I had. To be fair, I understood that I was coming here for an affordable weekday lunch buffet, so I inherently probably adjusted my expectations accordingly beforehand. But, if you’re looking for a reasonably-priced, tasty lunch option and are hungry enough for a buffet, this is a great option. Separately, I saw that they had ready meals for people in a hurry — those were priced around $ 6. Separately again, they have free wifi.

Very bad biryani, I feel pity for New Yorkers who believe they tasted Indian food while eating here

I wish I read the reviews before grabbing lunch here. I got chicken tikka with a side of vegetables. Both were highly disappointing. I got 4 small pieces of chicken, which had no flavor. The sauce was completely watered down as well. The side of vegetables was just blah and also disappointing. Go to Joy down the block, at least you will enjoy your meal there.

I frequent this place for the lunch buffet a few times a month over the last 5 years. Lunch buffet is affordable but I think they have been adding more and more water to the food… it never used to be so runny…

Awesome Indian food at a great price. Ate tendori paneer, rogan josh, and chicken kurahi, with rice and garlic naan. So flavorful, so darn good! First time in New York and was walking by… had to stop and check it out. Totally worth the stop!

I Ordered delivery. It was Expensive, small portion, and mediocre quality for the price. Food was not bad, but not particularly good either.

There are a lot of terrible reviews for this place, I never thought it to be that bad. I’ve been here a few times with coworkers every once in a while. It’s a tradition for us to eat here when someone leaves the company. This place isn’t bad enough for us to go elsewhere and start a new tradition. I have only ever had the lunch buffet here, which is $ 12 or 13. Now I’m no Indian cuisine expert, but I think the food is pretty standard. They have 8 items for the buffet, 3 meat options: tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, and 4 vegetarian options(forgive me for not knowing the names). We also order garlic naan, which is extra, but is pretty tasty. A coworker had a mango lassi and thought it was pretty good. Food isn’t bad, but isn’t memorable. That’s what I’ve done the few times I’ve been here. Come in, eat, stuff myself and leave. Pretty much what happens at a lunch buffet. I’d rate this place a if you’re feeling hungry and craving Indian food and want to stuff yourself this place isn’t a bad option as there aren’t many Indian buffet options in midtown.

The Matta Paneer was excellent as was the onion relish that comes as garnish… Also enjoyed the garlic naan… The wait staff were a bit tight lipped but everything was delivered in a timely fashion… I would return if I were in the area… Very flavorful.

Curry Dream is located on a street with several restaurant and bar choices. From what I could see, it’s the only Indian restaurant on 39th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. The entrance is on the south side of 39th, closer to 6th Avenue. I liked Curry Dream’s dining room very much. It is a shade of red, decently lit with lots of artwork hanging on its walls. The dining room is a long rectangle and can easily seat large parties. As with many restaurants, there are some things that are done here better than others. My sample size consists of only one visit. We had the Chicken Korma(according to a sign outside, it was on a «the best of» list), Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Tandoori, nan and poori breads. Starting with the Chicken Korma, the sauce was a bit unimpressive with the lack of sweetness and coconut flavor a good korma should have. The chicken was white meat, which is not a personal liking of mine. As for the Lamb Bhuna, we got this dish in error as we had originally ordered a chicken dish instead. We didn’t bother complaining. Again, there was nothing really exciting about this dish. The aroma and spices didn’t jump off of this dish. Having large bell peppers in this dish didn’t help. Now for the good stuff, the chicken tandoori was fantastic. Portions were good for a half order and the chicken arrived nice and hot and moist! Most of the pieces were dark meat and seasoned well. I would gladly order the whole chicken in another visit. Another great dish at Curry Dream was the nan. It had the crispy, piping hot fresh from the oven taste you would expect and it was done right. Unfortunately, the poori was a fried doughy bread. It wasn’t light and airy as a good poori would be. Here are a few other things to look out for if you plan a visit. The service is a bit slow. It took us nearly 30 minutes to get our food. There’s also no rice provided for free with the entrees. In summary, I wholehearted think that if you’re coming here for excellent tandoori, this is a great place to be. The two curries I tried were not impressive, but if you want to be adventurous try the curries that I didn’t try. Perhaps they’ll be better.

Came here with a groupon and we had to make a reservation, which was kind of silly. The place only had one other table when we got there As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a strong weird odor. Sort of old carpet mixed with old curry kind of smell. And the carpet felt sticky We had the chicken tandoori for appetizer, which probably took 30 mins to come out. The portion was incredibly small and the presentation of the food was terrible. It was served on a super small plate and the chicken were cut so small and just thrown randomly on there with some pieces of brown lettuce. I seriously didn’t want to eat it. the taste was just ok For entrée we had the chicken tandoori again and some curry thing with crab meat. The curry with crab meat thing tasted decent but the portion again was super small. oh, and the entrée doesn’t come with rice, so you have to order extra rice on top Overall, the place felt shady and dirty… the waiter kept on wanting us to order more than we wanted. and the portion was super small with average price per entrée from $ 15 – 20 dollars… I think not
