This place is amazing, staff amazing, came for a late dinner in a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised with all the attention we got. Food on point, wine to die for, and desert that gave me life

At first glance, Comodo looks like the perfect brunch location. Nestled right in the border between Greenwich Village and South Village, it’s a cozy, tastefully decorated restaurant offering a modern take on Latin American cuisine. It was an easy pick for a Saturday afternoon brunch, when my friend and I were looking for a place for a long overdue catch up. An easy reservation was made via OpenTable, and on the set weekend, we both arrived within minutes of each other, and were seated near the window booth, giving us a generous amount of sunlight. We started with the Pao de Queijo, a basket of the popular Brazilian bread served with a side of Tomatillo Jam. They were served warm, with a firm, crisp outer shell and a chewy, doughy interior with plenty of cheese flavor. The Tomatillo Jam served as a bright and acidic spread, making for a perfect contrast to the bread. Our only gripe was the fact that only five of them came in a basket, as we could have easily eaten another order of them. For my main dish, I went with the«Calentado» Duck Fat Fried Rice. The dish, unfortunately, fell short in several respects. The rice was surprisingly bland, especially given the fact that it was cooked with duck fat; the seasoning was lackluster and there weren’t many ingredients utilized that could have added some additional textures and flavors to the rice. The shredded duck breast that was interspersed with the rice was on the drier side, and similarly lacked a distinctive taste or richness that I had been hoping for. While the fried egg on top was a nice touch, it couldn’t save the rest of the dish. While I know it’s not fair to judge a restaurant based solely on one experience, I have to admit that there isn’t much to encourage a second visit. What Comodo does have in its favor is a comfortable ambiance and a great location in downtown Manhattan; while the the menu appears very safe, straying far from the bold flavors characteristic of Latin American cuisine, it may be a feature that works in their favor.

Twice i had told the restaurant(over the phone and upon walk in) to put a candle on the dessert(surprise candle) as we are celebrating a friend’s bday. And that was not done when the dessert came out. I have a low tolerance for incompetence. Experience was ruined and will not come back.

What happened to the Quinoa Cakes? So disappointed at the new menu, it was not memorable. Pease bring it back!

This food is so good. One can sense all of their care goes into ingredients and the proper treatment of those ingredients. They use so little butter, nothing is over-salted, and everything is piquant, fresh, and intensely flavored. Without seeming harsh, many places become busy because of a strong PR Firm, or a media-driven individual, but this place is all about what the transparency of pure cooking. Delicious and intriguing combinations.

I’d give it five stars but I’m a picky foodie. Very comfortable small place on McDougal Street in Soho. Ya ever heard of Cilantro Soup? Me neither… but their prep with goat cheese and crab softened the soup to perfection. We love italian, and their latin american take on bolognese with a cream poblano meat sauce, and light fluffy homemade flat pasta was superb. My duck breast was served seared and crisp on the outside, and perfectly prepared on the inside. This is a quiet place to relax with fantastic food. We’re going back!

This is a small cozy restaurant with nice décor. Came here on a Saturday night and was seated right away– yes, you should make reservation because it fills up pretty quickly! Appetizers were delicious! The brussels sprout Caesar salad and the cauliflower dish are a must try! As for entrée, the kale and quinoa platter was top notched. I was a bit disappointed at the trout dish because it came out a bit dry… other than that, it was pretty enjoyable.

Came here for brunch and fell in love! 15 bottomless sangria which is a steal in the city. The Sierra salad(Brussel sprouts with a poached egg on top) was one of the most amazing salads I’ve ever had. We also had the duck confit chilaquiles– so good! And the churro donuts with Nutella. Amazing brunch and to top it all off we were able to dine and make our reservations with Reserve! Will definitely be coming back!

I came here for brunch with a friend after we were very indecisive about choosing a place. We were in the area and had heard good things about Comodo, but neither of us knew too much about it. We couldn’t have been happier about our decision though, and I will definitely be recommending this place to friends. When we walked by this place, it didn’t seem too remarkable. We passed places on the way with lines out the door, but this place only had a few patrons at around noon on a Sunday. We were seated quickly, obviously, and had some delicious coffee while we looked over the menu. One weird thing is that their iced coffee was served in a stemless wine glass – fancy? or just weird? Regardless, the coffee tastes great, which I guess is what really matters. The physical space is intimate. It has exposed brick and a nice wine bar on one side. They have a communal table and individual tables to the side of it with additional seats in the front by the window. The space and service weren’t anything too special, but the food was outstanding. I ordered the buttered quinoa cake with a poached egg($ 18) because it sounded interesting. I didn’t quite know what to expect, but it was almost like a muffin made of quinoa with leek ricotta, sweet potato, and sauteed spinach on top with the egg. It was served almost like Eggs Benedict. The flavors were rich, I could taste each component, and the portion was perfect. It came with fried mushrooms that were crisped and almost tasted like home fries. Mmm… Drool. My friend had the Eggs Benedict($ 14) which included chorizo instead of ham. I didn’t have any, but it looked amazing. This place does offer bottomless drinks for an additional $ 20 per person, but it’s a little more expensive than your typical brunch. The food is worth the extra price though, and like I said, I’ll definitely be a returning customer. I can’t speak about their dinner, I’ll be coming to try it soon if it’s anything like their brunch!

Hidden little Gem, Cozy, Romantic, Amazing food, service, drinks, a sangria like it has to be. Recommendation The Brussel Sprouts, the Mezcal Octopus, The Cilantro Soup, The Arepas, the Salmon tostadas are incredible. I had the best Espresso I ever had in NYC, trust me just get it. And last but not least the Café con leche cake, INCREDIBLE!

I’ve lived down the street from Comodo for years and it’s become one of my absolute favorite neighborhood gems. From the minute you walk in through thick curtains you’re in a special place with just the right blend of charm and simplicity. Lunch and brunch options are great, but the highlight for me has been sitting at the bar for a light dinner and a glass of wine. Wine choices are great, staff is always helpful to try and pair something with a different dish, and I always find myself drawn back. Plus they take Cover so it really cements the feeling of being a regular.

It’s not a place for u if u like runny egg yolk. Place is very cozy, light filled, and uses a lot of natural woods to decorate. The service was good. The orange juice is a must! I had the duck fried rice and quinoa cake for brunch. It’s great. I also had the café de leche– it was amazing!

I’ve been to Comodo a couple of times now, the first being a World Cup final booking I made for a few of my friends. That visit should probably be disqualified from review. I recall that my calentado duck fat fried rice was pretty good while my friend was bummed with his quinoa platter. The room itself is welcoming, modern and bright though limited in seating. You’ll find all types of SoHo people here, from modeling ingenues to yuppies and trust fund kids, and even a few normals. More recently, I came here for a couple brunch double date. The service was not bad, though not particularly amazing. A bit slow, if I recall. I made sure to order the Pao de Quejo Pão de queijo(Brazilian version of the Latin cheese bread). It was good, but not transcendent, like the kind I once had elsewhere. For the main, I got the pork belly hash cilantro pasta topped with poached eggs, which was almost as good as it was inventive. Drinks are also very good, with micheladas and other unusual twists and concoctions. Prices are slightly higher than average for brunch but you’re paying for imagination here. Food is just slightly inconsistent on a couple of visits, but it’s definitely on the right track.

Walk-in Sunday at noon and the hostess/our server got us in right away. Duck chilaquiles in wide pottery bowl was rich and satisfying. Shrimp tacos as a main is plenty for brunch but the dish didn’t need the overly sweet refried beans in each tortilla. Lovingly made(I’m guessing by the freshness) homemade salsas to accompany. Thoughtful brunch cocktail menu, a young professionals crowd, a little loud but lively.

Had a pleasant meal here. The food was good and portions small. I got the pork and it was tasty, but I could have eaten 50% more and not been stuffed. The Brazilian dessert was marginal at best. I had hoped for something more. The service was patient and good and ambiance was decent.

Light & spacious for such a small place! Perfect for an afternoon get together, girls brunch! This little gem was tucked into the brownstones along the quaint street of macdougal! I tried the shrimp tacos and they had this former Cali girl hook! Seriously delicious! I also indulged in their brunch time sangria. A perfect day for this summer wine punch! Wait staff was friendly and attentive. They let us ladies linger all afternoon. Didn’t feel rushed out! Will be back!

Apparently this restaurant got started on Kickstarter. My plus one knew that I loved stuff like that and made a reservation on a Saturday at 7pm. He mentioned it’s not that easy to get a reservation here. The place is small and once filled, actually quite bustling. Anyway, we ordered a bunch of appetizers and an entrée to share. Potato soup special, ceviche, lamb sliders, brussel sprout salad and pulled pork. Everything was well done and the soup for me was the highlight. A t the end, they surprised me with coconut cake for my birthday! We got the cute couples table in the corner too. Another perfect birthday!

Spectacularly warm experience and tasty meal in a very sexy part of the village. Greeted by the nicest ever host, we lucked into a table at 8 on a Sat. sans res. I guess my gratefulness was well received because we were completely spoiled for the rest of the night. Delivered cups of sangria gratis as we waited a minute for the table(quite fresh and tasty, btw) we sat at the high bar extension communal table(there are lower square café style tables throughout, that look like they could be rearranged as needed) the carmeniere($ 11) was tasty and easy by the glass. We started with the Brussels sprout salad on a rec from the host. I would never have chosen this but it’s really super delish, a small mound of cheesy soft sprouts; the arepas mushrooms are so tasty, savory and match so well with the flavor of the arepa; and we were gifted the sliders by our darling host; they’re on pao de queijo, which is a Brazilian cheesy bread(texture almost like foccacia but cheesy and a little lighter) and the meat is lamb, seasoned w spices and cherries(? Or currants?) and paired with a lightly spicy mayo. So filling. Despite the small portions the food is very rich, so it works well. For mains we had the scallops which are paired with a green risotto(cilantro and … Tomatillo? Or some other green) that just tasted like spring. So nice; and the conchita(I’m spelling this wrong) which was pulled pork with very deliciously creamy potatoes, spices and greens. We tried the coconut dessert which was like a cake slice of macaron: super coconuty but topped with Parmesan cheese. I can see the idea here but it wasn’t for me. Pulled off the cheese and the cake was a tasty macaroon. And with our bill came caramels covered in chocolate shavings. We were really spoiled. Add to that the vibe of 30+somethings impeccably behaved and dressed yet not taking themselves too seriously and it’s a major win. Case in point, the lights dimmed, the volume of the music raised(celebrate was the song) and out came a birthday cake for a enrouging man at a corner table– and the whole restaurant applauded.

i went there for my birthday, booked a table for 4 a day before. The service is great, they are friendly. The food, some of if was good some of it so and so. Good: octopus, calamari, lamb mini hamburgers. Not so great: duck — was over cooked and gummy, pork was also kind of gummy. overall it’s a cosy place, that you can stop for drinks with friends but not expect something amazing from food.
