$ 8 haircut, usually no wait or not much of one. In and out in 10 – 15 minutes, just the way I like it and as good as any haircut $ 30 or less. I even get a minute scalp massage afterwards. I’ve had both Tan(who’s off on Mondays) and Li Jianwai(who’s off on Wednesdays). Both very good.

Ling the stylist(and only English speaking one it seems) is back here after moving to China beauty down the block. Still charging $ 10 for a cut and shampoo. Can’t beat the price! I gave her a $ 5 tip for giving me such a great head massage before my shampoo. P

This is a neighborhood stable. My family had been going here for years. Mr. Lee is the best, he does exactly what you ask for and allows you to reserve a spot over the phone. I only wish it’s closer to my place(like right downstairs) I’d get wash and blow dry every week, lol.

Was really surprised how good my $ 9 came about! At first, it was intimidating to enter as all patrons inside were Chinese, but I summoned up my courage and came in. One of the barber, opened the door and welcomed me, probably because he saw me across the street contemplating if I should go haha. But definitely recommended to go here, my barber, Tan, speaks conversational English and understood what I want. He would show me a portion of the cut every now and then if I was happy with it, but overall he did a meticulous and excellent job. I want to say that this beats the $ 50 haircut I get from the more upscale salon in Chinatown. Oh and if you say shampoo, he will dry shampoo your hair while on the chair but its smelled really good, I was just taken aback. If you ever come here, just relax, be friendly and explain thoroughly what you want. Service here is excellent. And dudes, ask for Tan, except Monday I think he is off.

According to the business card I got today, the address is actually 5PELLST. Great place to go for a haircut. The wait isn’t long. Price is right. Service is good. Some of them understands English too.

As one of the reviewers said, the address is at 7 Pell and not 19(that one’s Kelly Salon and I had a less pleasant experience there). First time visit. Went in for a trim that ended up at $ 9 not including tip. I had a stacked bob cut about 2 months prior by a higher-end salon, and Mei got me roughly back to that same cut for a fraction of the price and time. I opted for no shampoo, as my hair was already clean, and was out of there in about 20 minutes. Mei didn’t really rush and was pretty careful. Bit of a language barrier, but her English was functional and I made sure to bring pictures of my prior haircut, and got the result I wanted. It’s not going to be a spa experience or a precision cut, but if you just need a no-frills trim, this will do the trick.

I’ve been here with my fiancé a couple of times. He works in the city and this is his go to place to get his hair cut. I decided to give it a try today after reading some of the reviews here on Unilocal. I asked for a trim, just to clean up the style. Mei did an amazing job. She really knows what she is doing. I got a trim, shampoo, and style for only $ 12.00 plus tip! I have short hair but the prices for medium to long hair are very reasonable as well. Great place.

After living in China off and on for a couple of years I have been searching for a Chinese-style shampoo. Horray, I found Chung Wah Salon where they give the longest and greatest shampoo service ever! Who doesn’t love to get their hair shampooed and head massaged. The price is very cheap, only $ 9 for females to get your hair shampooed(for a long time) and your hair blown-dry/styled. I hesitate to give a good review to this place because I don’t want it to be busy when I visit NY. Don’t expect the salon to be super clean, Chinese people usually sweep the floor at a certain time, not after each haircut. But, the service is really great. Treat yourself to a nice long shampoo/style service and you’ll come out feeling great! Mai is my go-to stylist, she has great English and knows what she is doing.

Bf needed a haircut and we came to Chinatown to eat at Shanghai Asian Manor around the corner. He’s been here a few times and this is his go to spot if he’s in the area. Everyone here is super nice and the prices are great. Their service is great as well and I highly recommend them if you need a simple haircut if you’re a guy. If you’re a girl, I’ve seen several older women come in here too. In fact there is one white woman and one chinese woman getting their hair done right now. The place is very simple and they get the job done. None of that unnecessary oil treatment etc stuff that men don’t really need.

Cheap, relatively clean, friendly and professional staff, this is my go to spot for a haircut in the city at $ 7 and it’s not a barber school! Deal! AND it’s next door to Joes Shanghai! Where else can I get my hair did and soup dumps at the same time?

and yet another cheap barber shop on pell street. for $ 7 these guys can get you cut and out super fast, but seems like they only know 4 or 5 hairstyles. i only see asian males getting hair cuts and that really only means a select few hairstyles(i know, i’m one of them). the problem is, they can’t get it right! i’ve tried a few times because i’m stubborn and hate testing barber shops. i’ve even gone in and said absolutely nothing, 1) i don’t speak cantonese 2) I was oddly intrigued at what hairstyle they’d give me, 3) i usually end up fixing my hair myself at home i guess the phrase, «hit it and quit it» can apply to barbershops also. who knew

While this barber shop mainly caters to a Chinese crowd, don’t be intimidated to go in there as there are many stylists who have a good command of English. The prices are only $ 7 for a standard men’s haircut and only $ 8 for women’s straight cuts. As with most places along Pell’s Barber area, it is cash only and may be very inconvenient for the plastic users. I recommend Xiu Yi, as she has been one of the most popular stylists with her great service and impressive skill.
