We held my wife’s birthday party in the back room. It was fun, creative and informative! Also I should add… Delicious. Our host, Marlena, worked the crowd of adults brilliantly. Again fun and informative! We made cookies and chocolate molds. In the end we were all just a bunch of kids. I highly recommend this place!

We stopped by chocolate works multiple times during my stay. The chocolate here is made in house. It tasted like the typical chocolate. Not the best truffles or chocolate covered pretzels that I’ve had, but it was solid. In addition to chocolate, they also have bulk candy along the walls. Just like you’d find typically in a confectionary store, the prices here are slightly inflated. They offer a variety of free samples throughout the week for guests to try. The staff doesn’t really push the samples. They seem to be used to kids coming up and grabbing them each day. Whatever they have available is placed near the register.

Been going since opened for truffles which are always offered as free samples, I was hooked upon first bite… best in city !!! –only item purchased, though many other attractive options.

Stopped in to find Uncle Louie G’s on offer and Eminem blasting overhead, a contrast to the bright and seemingly kid-focused space(appropriate for the neighborhood*). Friendly staffer let me know that I could score a milk– or dark chocolate-covered marshmallow(rather than fruit*) gratis, then left the register to make it to order(it was OK, but that seems so inefficient for a small margin product). *Chocolate Works is apparently a chain/franchise, but this was the only one listed on the Huledet bday freebie: «Celebrate your birthday with a complimentary piece of chocolate covered fruit! Print and present this email to for a complimentary piece of chocolate covered fruit when you stop by Chocolate Works during your birthday month. Limit one per person per year. Proof of birthday month may be required.»

We came here for my niece’s b-day party. Let’s be clear, this place is way overpriced, kind of run down and the service here is pretty subpar. The staff handling the party wasn’t the most kid friendly but sugar works wonders with munchkins. The quality of chocolates was also pretty subpar. We got to look around and they enrobe pretzels they buy from Costco in chocolate and sell them as their own. One star since its way overpriced. One star because the kids had a good time. Pass if you can.

I always come here to buy seasonal chocolate– Christmas, Halloween, Easter, thanksgiving, etc, They make really creative, cute chocolate molds/designs. I usually give them as gifts. They do a nice job in gift wrapping them. Salespeople are always nice. I prefer the dark chocolate. It’s really delicious.

this place was closed for a little while for a remodel, but i honestly think the store looks worse now than it did before. they once had a sale on truffles so i bought a massive box full of a variety of flavors. i didn’t finish them. i am just not crazy about the chocolate here. i will go in and wander through, look at the cool chocolate shaped offerings on the back wall, but almost never buy anything, apart from the box of truffles that one time.

There are so many poor qualities to this establishment that I’d hardly know where to begin so I’ll just say this: House made chocolate should be good enough to make the high prices of it acceptable! This was the worst, high-priced chocolate I’ve ever had the misfortune of tasting! Consider yourself warned!

It doesn’t seem like many people come here anymore already… based on the ratings and the dates of last reviews… but here goes. This could be an inclination as to why… Lines 7924 — 7930 Mind you this inspection was dated 9÷08÷2014 — today is 11/19/2014. These are all still violations. So while all of you eat your chocolates remember they were made with unwashed hands in unsanitary conditions where they have employees working for crap wages in small spaces. I’m sure they taste great though! «Employee hand washing facilities inadequate for establishments handling exposed food» «Toilet facilities improperly installed, equipped, or maintained.» «Sanitizing test devices not in use where required» «Establishment has insufficient space to accommodate operations» «Interior floors, walls, ceilings or fixtures are not of suitable construction, clean, or well maintained» «Food or ingredient storage containers are not clean, covered or properly identified» «Unused equipment or materials improperly stored or in an unclean condition» It blows my mind how Unilocal is more accessible and seems more«reliable» to people rather than just looking up public health and safety information. «THEYTASTEDGREATTHOUGH!»

WHAT A NEIGHBORHOODGEM! I can’t believe I didn’t come here sooner! It blends in with the residential neighborhood around it and I feel bad I ever overlooked it. Clean, an amazing variety of sweet options, so adorable. I love that this exists

While I do still love this place, it really is overpriced, especially given the fact that they no longer stock my hard-to-find favorite treat: Smooth and Melty Mints – those pastel colored solid creamy white chocolate mints. Still the only place I can find those giant Whirly pops to slobber over and the only place in the world I’ve ever seen the special post-dinner malted mint balls they serve at Monkey Bar(which I have taken the time-sucking pleasure of gently splitting and photographing for those uninitiated amongst you).

I thought the service was pretty sub par. I’d expect a friendlier staff considering all of the birthday parties they conduct here. I ordered a groupon deal that allowed me to make my own chocolate bar for $ 10(instead of the usual $ 15) I couldn’t have been more disappointed with my purchase. There was a birthday party taking place so they asked me to wait a few moments. In the meantime there were chocolate covered pretzels, matzo and dark chocolate macaroons to sample. Honestly I didn’t enjoy any of them. I thought the macaroons were quite tasteless aside from a hint of coconut sugar and the pretzel was dry. The matzo was probably the best of the three but not something I’d recommend buying. After waiting about 10 minutes they asked what I would like to put in my customized chocolate… I said almonds, sprinkles, m&ms but before I could say anymore they told me I could only pick one thing. Really? Blah. They allowed me to pour a hefty amount of almonds onto a jumbo size bar molding. Then they poured melted chocolate over the molding and said it would need to freeze for a few minutes. Over 10 minutes later she handed me my chocolate. Though the chocolate was delicious… the experience was disappointing enough for me to never return. If I could make a suggestion it would be for a cheerier staff and for a more elaborate chocolate bar making experience. $ 10 was quite a rip in my opinion.

Went to a Birthday party today! All I can say is WOW!!! It is every kids’ paradise. Both my kids had an amazing time. The party was well organized. I could not walk away from fudge samples. Naturally not the place to visit often to those watching their weight but such a great treat. If you feel you deserve it you should deffinately visit:)))

Came here today to claim a free birthday surprise. The chocolate was very good but as other people have written, it is pricey. However, I did not get an air of pretension when I walked in or any rudeness from anyone. In fact, the staff was very helpful unlike when I went to 5th Avenue Chocolatier a few days ago to browse & had no one say a word to me. There’s TONS of variety here! Aside from truffles containing alcohol(which I’ve not seen anyplace & they were verboten at the Godiva store I worked at many moons ago), they have banana truffles, these chocolates that look like olives, fudge of many varieties(including Oreo), their own candy bars(the dark sea salt was tempting me like nobody’s business) & non-dairy chocolate. They also have a decent assortment of candy, including specifically labeled«candy cigarettes.» I also saw tons of chocolate designs on the shelves including a hair dryer & high heels so I’m pretty sure if you wanted something made of chocolate, these people could do it. Next time, I’m coming back with my husband & seeing if he’ll buy me some chocolate from here.

OMG! Is all I could think of when I entered this store on the UWS. I thought I had died and ended in heaven — and I didn’t mind this one bit. After reality came crashing in on me that I was indeed NOT in heaven VIA a large dump truck honking it’s horn out the window at some clueless tourist, I proceeded to the selection process(which is no easy feat!) There were aisles and walls and stands full of chocolate and other treats. The lady at the counter was very kind and walked me through the delicious yummies. She even offered samples and suggestions for certain items. I am sure I seemed lost, drifting amidst a sea of pure awesomeness. In my chocolate-crazed dementia I may or may not have tried eating the few inedibles in the store(paper, counter, the employee… etc) After patching the lady’s bite marks up with chocolate bandages and hazelnut flavored antiseptic, we monitored for signs indicative of turning into a zombie. There were none so we counted our blessings and moved on to the next aisle. I wound up getting a chocolate /hazelnut cigar, many truffles, and tons of other things I cannot recall due to the godlike sugar rush that soon ensued. Best. Work. Day. Ever. Did I mention there is a chocolate fountain?

The Chocolate workshop was amazing. The kids molded milk chocolate into a shape of their choosing; made a marshmallow fondu; ran a pretzel through the hot chocolate, decorated it an had it cooled while enjoying a ton of candy bins– all sorts u can think of. Once the chocolate mold was ready the kids got to decorate it with colored white chocolate and then they got to take home their masterpiece to enjoy for days to come. An amazing experience for all.

I was in love from the moment I walked in. I was like a kid in a candy store. I went with a friend who is a foodie and we had a great time. Good place to bring kids, very family-friendly but there is a catch. The store is full of candy so prepare to spend if your child(ren) crave sweets. I definitely enjoyed sampling the delicious Belgian milk chocolate. It was pretty neat to choose between a graham cracker, oreo cookie, or pretzel to have coated in chocolate and your favorite topping. I chose an oreo and m&ms, yummy. There’s also a variety of molds to choose from to make your grand chocolate masterpiece to take home once you decorate it. The entire experience was about 90 mins. I’d go back for more, but with my sweet tooth, I’d better keep my distance for now.

Went here with a group of friends on birthday chocolatier experience. The experience was supposedly designed for adults. I say supposedly because it ended up feeling like it was deisgned for a little kid party. We made chocolate molds, ran a pretzel though a chocolate drencher, and fondued a marshmallow. For $ 35 a head… I’m not sure that is the adult experience I would be looking for. I expected our instructor to be a little more attentive and also maybe to explain more of the process of what we were doing instead of just telling us passing us material. Jessica instead seemed distant. The store itself on the retail side had a lot of offerings, some of the interesting items for sale were berry flavored popcorn, jelly beans in every flavor, red velvet fudge, and lots of different chocolate truffles. There also have M&M’s in every color and have lots of different molds to make solid chocolates as gifts. Their candy by the pound is pretty expensive, more expensive than Dylan’s which is pretty expensive for NYC.

We spent way too much here! But it was worth it. I STRONGLY recommend the m&m chocolate pretzels YUM! Also tried some fudge and it was out of this world! A bit pricey but would be worth it if you didn’t have to watch your $$$ Try as much as you can, I loved everything I chose! Especially the cherry cordial, raspberry cream & the coconut. So good! Go check it out, but I suggest only taking a certain amount in so that you don’t spend too much!

Willy Wonka’s factory has come to life in the UWS and manifested in this bright and cheery candy shop. I had first heard about their fantastic peanut brittle, but since chocolate’s the name of my game, I wanted to scope it out and see what other delights I could find. When you walk in you’ll perhaps be compelled to stick your head under the chocolate fondue fountain. But as you should normally resist the temptation in those kinds of public situations just walk away and wonder what it takes to buy a few minutes of fondue fun-time. I realized later I should have asked if you can buy marshmallows or fruit to dip in the store or if it’s just there for the employees to dazzle with their dipping skills. You’ll be overwhelmed with the rainbow assortment of candy that fills the store. Think of it as a much more down-to-earth Dylan’s but with even some of the same candy they have like cookies and cream crunchy bites and chocolate malt balls. Everything is also by the pound so be careful how much you load into your bag – it can cost you a few pretty pennies in the end. You’ll find plenty of the old classics like all the different M&Ms, chocolate covered gummy bears, lots of sweet and sour candies and plenty of lollipops. But make your way to the illustrious glass cases in the middle and pour over their array of truffles – four of which I purchased. They make look small but they pack a wallop of dense, sweet flavor. I ordered the champagne truffle, two cupcake truffles and a strawberry cheesecake. The cupcake truffle was by far one of the most fun(sprinkle-covered) and delicious truffles. The strawberry is VERY sweet and fruity and the champagne has a great texture with the raw sugar on top. I would definitely recommend picking candy from the self-serve areas as these are a bit more inexpensive and much more fun to choose from. Chocolate Works is an awesome place but too dangerously close for my sweet tooth senses.
