This place brings back memories of living in southern New Jersey, as this place is a summer staple for sweets. They are known for their Italian ice and also frozen custard. Maybe cause this place is smaller than the places I’m used to, they are limited in the amount of flavor a they make daily, here they have about 13 flavors. Usually the have about 20 in the jersey area. None the less the quality of the Italian ice is still good and the custard is delicious.

If it’s sweet, I like it. If it’s icy, I like it. If it’s fruity, I like it. Now all three in one happy cup? Heaven! Sweet smooth frozen treat. I’m a sucker for the blueberry, pink grapefruit and the pink lemonade Italian ice!!! But there are too many options, too many combinations and too much flavor to enjoy but not enough tummy space. It a small branch and space is a downside. It’s a good thing there are benches nearby.

Meh, didn’t fill an empty hole of a desire for frozen custard. I’ve had way better outside of the city and for way cheaper. People who work here are lackadaisical and busy chit chatting than to care about customers.

So far, this is as good as it has gotten for Frozen Custard for me. Chain, so what! Rita’s maintains quality good stuff! The Swedish Fish Ice is(for those who know me, a winner just because it has to do with Swedish Fish) and a Vanilla Custard(this time tried with whipped cream, cherries, and hot fudge) was yet again another home run. I recommend this to anyone who loves ice cream in the style of Mister Softie or Frozen Yogurt because this variation is within the same consistency but creamier and less acidic from the dairy taste of normal ice cream.

I tried the piña colada, and really enjoyed it! It was decently priced and I really loved that it had actual chunks of pineapple! Honestly made it so good!

Oh Rita’s! If only you always carried my favorite flavors I would give you 5 stars but I understand, you cannot always cater to just me. :) Perfect for the heat of the summer in the NYC — flavors vary each day(approx 12+ choices) Light and not overtly sweet. Add in some custard and you’ll feel oh so happy. Some of my favorites are Orange/Vanilla Gelati or Rootbeer/Vanilla Gelati. Husband loves the regular Ice which hits the spot when temps bust 90º+ They also have take-home & party size buckets. I’ll have to check these out when they have some of our favorite flavors in… that way we’ll have a ‘stash’ at home in case of emergency heat waves(we don’t have a/c)

For that hot summer and even cold winter day you’re craving something absolutely refreshing, go to Rita’s. A large gelati will do your tastebuds good! They have a rewards program via a phone app — make sure to use it!

I didn’t try their Italian ice but instead went for their twist custard which is a mix of vanilla n chocolate flavours. It was creamy, thick and not overtly sweet which is kind of gud. But nothing in particular that blew off my mind!

I tried the gelati on my most recent visit. Cherry flavor with vanilla. I was told that the cherry/vanilla or the mango/vanilla is the most popular flavor. I have to say I really did not like the Italian Ice at all. I thought it really detracted from the custard and if I could do it again I would just stick to the custard. I can see why kids love the Italian ice as it is excessively sweet. It is so sweet though that it doesn’t go well with the custard. Stick to the custard and you won’t be disappointed. No guarantees with the italian ice though. Summary: I highly recommend the frozen custard. The italian ice is overly sweet and some of the flavors have an artificial taste.

This place is a gem. I thought they only had one in Philly. Best spot to get a cool refreshing treat on a hot day in NYC. Get the gelati. With mango ice and vanilla custard.

Rita’s Italian Ice celebrated the first day of spring by giving out free Italian ice. Unfortunately it was snowing on that day but I still tracked out in the snow to get mine. I got the Pina Cola flavor Italian Ice. It was good, but since it was snowing and cold outside, I got the chills eating it and it gave me brain freeze. The three stars is only for the review of their Ice. I haven’t tried their custards yet but planning to try it out when I am around the area. They get five stars for hosting this event every year. Thumbs up! LOL… My monkey Coco also got in on the action and got his Italian Ice and since it coincided with Macarons Day NYC, also free maracons at participating bakeries. Check out Macaron Day on Unilocal for more info about that free event they have every year. Cheers to the sweet Life!

All the flavors are great ! I definitely recommend the blendini, it’s a combination of ice and custard with a topping.

Frozen fatness is the only way to do dessert in NYC summer. Rita’s hits the spot when you just want to melt in cold creaminess. I highly recommend the vanilla frozen custard because nothing beats a classic, and the cookies ‘n’ cream ice. Skip the seasonal Dragonfruit, as it’s mostly just pink sugar water.

Philly has some of the best unhealthy creations. I was introduced to Rita’s many years ago in PA, and when Rita’s first came to NY I would make excuses to drive to Hillside Ave for my fix, then they opened on Tuckahoe Rd in Yonkers, which was even better. Fortunately, the Jews allowed Rita’s to come to the UWS so that we may all enjoy great custard and water ice. Years ago, Rita’s only had their freshly made flavors of water ice(they have to change it every 24 hrs or so) and vanilla or chocolate custard. A few years ago they brought us Misto Shakes which are very good, then they provided us unlimited toppings to go with your ice & custard. Unlimited toppings, people! ‘Nuff said. Oh, they also give you a free icey whenever you buy 7 or 8 things. They also give you a free one on your birthday ’cause they want you to feel loved. Gotta love that, right?

OMG… my favorite soft serve custard hands down! You don’t know how sad I was when the one in floral park, NY shut down… Since then, I have always stopped at any Ritas that I see, no matter where I am or what type of emergency I am in. I love their rainbow spinkles… something about them that is different from what you would get at competings stores… What is interesting about their custard is that it doesn’t melt very quickly. When my wife isn’t around… i usually get two large cones… one chocolate and one vanilla(I like the vanilla more)…When she is around… i get one small twist cone… dammit!

Huge fan of Rita’s since chain blew up on Long Island. Now that I’m in the city more, I finally decided to check this location out. Free Italian ice for the first day of «Spring» last week! Quotation marks only if you consider Spring to be a relative 45 degrees outside This place doesn’t seem to have many Italian ice flavors available per day as I’m used to in the suburbs(lack of space?), but it covers your basics and rotates the specialty ices. Even better than the ices are the custards IMO, especially the COFFEE custard which I’m still waiting for this location to have! Got a free Iced Coffee ice and topped it off with Vanilla custard. The ice was a bit disappointing for a new flavor and ended up being too watery and sweet. Perhaps a bad batch made that day? I’ll stick to the original flavors next time to be safe. Until warmer weather comes for the next visit…
