I am confused by the negative reviews about Chinese Mirch’s Momo & Buns food truck. As a China-born bun enthusiast(having compared Momofuku vs. Ippudo pork belly buns, and scouted Char Siu Bun from HK Cart and many dim sum venues), I was satisfied with these Chinese/Indian hybrid buns. My suggestion would be have these buns as a snack to share vs. entire lunch. I personally enjoyed chicken tikka & mint chutney buns.

What is wrong with all you people giving this place 1 star? I was lucky enough to sample the yak dumplings this weekend when Chinese Mirch set up a booth at the Atlantic Antic street fair in Brooklyn, and I was so impressed! Yes, the dumplings are small but they are so incredibly tasty. I had no idea what yak would actually taste like, but I’m so glad I tried it. Where can I get me some more yak???

To be fair, I had only one food and one food only and it is not even a main dish. So I am aware that I may have to give them another chance in the future and update this review. However, I don’t think I can bring myself to do it immediately because of the following experience I just had. That said, I ordered sweet buns(4 mini buns for $ 3 — ok, so maybe I got what I paid for). I figured it would give me great lunch desserts/afternoon munchies. I opened the package. It was only a few minutes after I got them, so I don’t think enough time has passed to trap too much moist(to steam, you need to put certain amount of water in the steamer so the buns do trap some water inside and if kept in closed contained for a while, the could release that water in the form of steam which has no place to go so it would just«wet» the food inside) to do this. I found 4 mini buns drenched in white water. I couldn’t even separate a bun from another. When I forced, it ripped and the custard fell out. I had very soggy, sticky buns that I couldn’t even pick up with hands that had very dry inside. Custard was dry because it wasn’t steamed/heated enough. Outside was so wet because they weren’t steamed and aired properly before being put into closed container.

«Chinese food, Indian flavors» $ 6 for 5 «momos». I got 3 chicken and 2 lamb, with hot sauce. They are delicious! I have had momos(Nepali dumplings) in Queens, and these are NOT momos. They are dumplings. But they are delicious, so whatever. They also serve the momos with rice or noodles, as a bowl, for $ 4 more. That seems odd. Dumpling rice? Huh?

Their tagline«Chinese Food made by India» would be cute, if they weren’t serving Tibetan/Nepali food. I got the chicken momos in Thukpa. it did NOT taste good. I’ve had thukpa and momos at Tibetan restaurants and they were very flavorful. The momos at this truck are super bland(and have little chunks of bone in them) and the soup just isn’t tasty at all. Also, the pricing is not clear how it is written on the truck. I was confused and so was the person who ordered after me. Not at all a good deal for $ 10. Chinese Mirch needs to stick to Indian Chinese.

For $ 6 you get 5 momos(dumplings) with a choice of fillings or you can opt for the bowl(rice with sauce) for $ 10. I opted for the bowl and my first choice of momos — cheese and spinach was sold out so I opted for bok choy with tofu. I’m not a fan of bok choy, but I wanted to stick to vegetarian and this was the only option. I chose brown rice with manchurian sauce for my add-ons. Firstly, the portion was HUGE. No way could I finish all 5 momos and the rice in one go. That apart, the momos were pretty decent. Not overwhelmingly good, but fresh and to their credit, the bok choy-tofu combo worked. The rice was peppered with some fresh veggies like corn and carrots which I appreciated. However the sauce was too garlicky and lacked the inherent kick or tanginess of an Indian manchurian sauce. Overall, both the sauce and momos could do with some more seasoning. It would be good if they offered a smaller and more economical portion size for the bowl option — 3 momos with the rice and sauce, would be more than sufficient. Also the wait time for a food truck was too long — 20 minutes in all. When I reached they were serving #70 and mine was #86. The service definitely needs to be much faster.

I would never visit this food truck again. I was sucked in by their«show your MasterCard get free sticky buns» promo only to find out you have to purchase $ 5 of food and pay cash only. The food was awful — I highly recommend NOT choosing this truck.

I’d give this place a ZERO star if I could. I ordered the chicken momos for lunch and decided to go for the bowl instead of just the dumplings. it was $ 10, but I was excited to see one of my favorite indo-chinese restaurant food and decided to go for it. I have eaten Indo-chinese food at many places(including the Chinese Mirch restaurant in Flatiron) and have never experienced as bad Indo-chinese food as this place. There are no Pros so I will get right to the Cons: — Undercooked chicken in my momos — this is a huge issue because people can really get sick by eating that. When I was on my second dumpling, I noticed that the chicken was pink. needless to say, I didn’t eat anymore of those. — Under-seasoned — This was remotely close to being Indian with no flavor or seasoning in the food whatsoever. — Manchurian sauce was so runny and broth like — with no flavor at all — For $ 10 — the food was not worth it at all — There was no line around the truck and no wait — I should have taken that as a sign. I feel like I will throw up just thinking about the food I ate. Do not recommend it — will never go there again. try at your own risk.

Really not that great. Had the chicken. Portion sizes were small, dumplings were so so. Save your disappointment and go try some other truck.

Still hungry from my previous food truck stop, I visited the Chinese Mirch truck by the water at Vesey and North End(by the WFC) and decided to order their Keema Momos, dumplings filled with minced lamb and peas. The package was pretty enough, and each dumpling was well folded and had a bit of tasty sear from the pan, but what was inside left me empty. It was a relatively flavorless nugget… a Swedish Meatball-sized lump of mystery that didn’t have much character. I would have had no idea it was lamb, and even dunking it in the spicy condiment that came with the meal or covering it with pseudosoy sauce(those damned clear plastic packets) didn’t help. Very disappointing. The crew was friendly enough, and I only have this one food on which to judge their work, so I didn’t give them just 1 star. I might try again, maybe order a rice bowl or something else and then reconsider, but this first impression wasn’t a good one.

I haven’t seen this truck around lately and have only eaten from here once. I had the duck sliders and they were soooooooooo freakin’ amazing! The duck had just the right amount of fat to meat portion and the veggies in it were fresh! The sauce was so flavorful and went so well w the duck sliders. I ordered the same thing from their restaurant via Seamless and it’s definitely not the same.(Read my review I left for their restaurant.)

Went back to try a rice bowl with Momos(dumplings) stuffed with Keema(lamb and peas) over brown rice. They have a frequent purchase card for rice bowls buy 7 get one free. Really yummy. I’m coming back again.

I wish I could give this ZERO stars!!! Absolutely disgusting, Poor quality ingredients, Uninterested employees and way over priced. Went there to order some dumplings, It was as if they didn’t want to give me anything and I had to beg for some food. The employees could care less about anything besides joking around amongst themselves. Food tasted like it sat for about 4 – 5 hours and was quickly re-steamed when ordered. Eat a better lunch from a vending machine!

After reading the other reviews, I’m surprised I visited the same spot. These momos were on par with the best I’ve tried in India and elsewhere in NY; not too doughy, great texture, and flavorful ingredients. I wasn’t overly impressed with the steamed buns, but I didn’t go in with high expectations at a truck. Go for the momos — the lamb and pea mix makes a great snack that is not uncomfortably filling.

Went with a group of colleagues for the first time and here’s the run-down. 1.Over-priced food/small portions; you will be still be hungry afterwards. 2. Poor quality of meat — Lamb Momos were raw and I had to throw them away or risk getting sick. — Chicken Momos consisted of poor quality dark meat with extra fat to serve as a filler. 3. I actually bit into something hard which i’m hoping at worst was bone or cartilage. Conclusion: If you want to ruin your day, eat at this place!

I’d give ZERO stars if I could. The worst lunch ever. Got 5 dumplings filled with potatoes and a shred or two of carrot. Cheapness has been redefined by this food truck. Rice was slimy. Colleagues of mine who ordered meat dumplings(aka momo’s) were equally disappointed as their meat was under cooked and rubbery. If you are interested in good lunch, skip this truck and eat at mall food court. You stand a better chance of getting better food.

Decent momos. Nothing phenomenal. Definitely not fusion at all. Tasted like any normal dumplings :| Given that the only other choice in #FIDI is A-Pou’s taste, I get why people come here, but really it’s not worth it. Go somewhere else.

Ever since moving to NYC from Charlotte, NC, I’ve been looking for a good Indo-Chinese restaurant. In Charlotte it seemed every Indian restaurant had an Indo-Chinese section, and dishes like Chicken Manchurian were easy to come by. The Indian restaurants I have been to in NYC do their Indian food differently than the North Carolina restaurants. At one restaurant in Park Slope I sampled a vindaloo with onions and peppers, giving it more of a Chinese flavor, but most restaurants stick to Indian food. Therefore, when I learned there was a truck that did Indian-Chinese fusion, I was ecstatic. I walked from work to 56th and Broadway, where Chinese Mirch had set up, and ordered a rice bowl($ 8) with Manchurian sauce and chicken momos. The momos had a really nice flavor, but the Manchurian sauce was underwhelming, with an acidic/vinegar taste that didn’t really agree with me. I would definitely go back for the momos — but then I am a fan of dumplings to begin with. Not a ton more in the rice bowl than momos, rice, and sauce, so to me, when I return, the more economical option is to get the order of momos on their own($ 4). I would say if Chinese Mirch is in your area it is worth checking out, but I wouldn’t trek across Manhattan or BK for it.
