The. Best. That’s all. $ 4.00-$ 5.00 for rice dishes. Delicious, fresh and cheap. Definitely one of the last old school Chinese spots on a rapidly gentrifying block.

found ourselves here for lunch on a saturday for a quick inexpensive meal. had the curry beef nom over rice — super soft non chewy, exactly what i was going for. i cleaned the whole plate. the free soup was no good for my taste. they do have roast meats over rice as well here.

Best takeout place ever. I’ve been here for years and there’s a reason why they still stay open after all this time. Best food money can buy and won’t cost you an arm and a leg!

Cheap edible fast cantonese foods. No more roast ducks anymore. They’ve been closed down by the health department so many times that I have lost count. There is couple of tables there. Not recomended dining in.

Where else can you spend $ 5.00 with a nice rice dish with soup and tea served to you?

Came here for dim sum and was not impressed at all. The food was subpar, and the carts don’t come frequently enough. There are better spots for dim sum in Chinatown.

This is a great place to go for cheap but filling dishes of Chinese food. I especially love it because it’s a rare place to get lots of vegetables with meat and rice while staying under $ 6. My favorite dish so far is sauteed snow pea leaves(have to request it, it’s not on the menu) with garlic chicken, over rice of course.

I came here looking for a phone number to this place, and noticed all these bad reviews, so I decided to post. I am Chinese and have been coming to this place since it opened years ago. Yes, it is a dive. Yes, they have ducks hanging in window. Yes, they have water running into the big pot of soup all the time. This is how all Chinese BBQ/fast food restaurants are. If your craving is for sweet and sour chicken, or kung pao chicken, or garlic chicken, or anything else that is not ‘real’ chinese food, then do yourself a favor and go a mile north or south and find a chinese restaurant in the financial district or the east village, where you will be able to find this type of food. If you want authentic chinese food, then venture inside, look at what everyone else has ordered, or ask one of the cabbies for a recommendation, and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

This’ my neighborhood go-to Chinese place. If you like cheap rice dishes or a shit-ton of fried rice for 5.50 that’ll last you two meals, come here. Fish Stew Curry and Cha Siu scramble are my favorites. Speaking Cantonese helps, and be aggressive about getting your shit.

Cheung Wong Restaurant The other name it goes by Just an FYI Soy sauce chicken rice Four dollars twenty five cents. Very delicious. Lots of cheap items. Four to five dollars in price. My B-B-Q spot! Mediocre dish: Beef with bean curd over rice Somewhat bland tasting, But maybe it is healthy? I liked the big tofu chunks. pic:

Been eating here since I was little well not actually eating inside but I’ve been ordering their take out for a long time. Their pork fried rice is always good and VERY plentiful. I had to cut down because eating from here everyday of the week allowed me to gain some much unwanted weight. They also recently renovated the place and now is much cleaner than before. Such a great place to order lunch or dinner take-out and with each order being under $ 6 each how can you deny the value that this establishment has to offer?

I’m glad to see this place has been reviewed a little bit. Consistently the best roast duck in ctown. The rice plates are 4.25−5.50 and are great. They give u so much meat and veggies that I always ask for more rice to throw down the entrée. I do have a new thought. For good eats at affordable prices, go where the mail carriers go. I have lunch all over the city but mainly downtown as I see people for community healthcare. And wherever I eat I see mail guys and gals. They just know where to eat. This place is mail carrier certified

Adequate, cheap, and fast: a trifecta one often finds(and should be thankful for) in Chinatown. I typically order the roast pork with rice, or the bitter melon. They give you a free cup of soup too. Utilitarian space that is best admired standing, while paying for your takeout.

Do you like Chinese chop shops with cooked chickens hanging by the window? check. Do you find Chinese wait staff who call every Latino, ‘amigo,’ mildly amusing? check. Do you think the letter ‘C’ on the door stands for ‘clean enough’? check. If you check yes on all 3 of these prerequisite questions, you have what it takes to eat at Chang Wang. To sum it up, this place is a no-frills(even by Chinatown standards) restaurant that serves up some of the best food in the area. The portions are generous, and their«jom lew» Chinese bbq foods(roast pork, char siu, roast duck) rank up there with the big boys(yeah, I’m looking at you, Big Wing Wong). But, let me warn you: this place feels 3rd-world dirty. If you’re looking for ambiance, then Chang Wang isn’t for you. But if you’re down with holes in the wall(or you’re ordering take out) then look no further than Chang Wang.

This was pretty bad. I got sweet and sour chicken and it tasted like a combination of sweet and sour chicken, general tsao’s, and orange chicken. This is not a good thing.

I’ve been looking around for a place like this since I move to ny about 5 year… I would say disregard most of the negative reviews… This is the hard to find«real» cheap and good chinese food place, not catering to tourists or hipster… Very hard to find. *not too much msg. compared to other«popular» places, *I’ve only had really personal friendly service… *a bit greasy but actually alot of great dishes. *free tea when you come in… *free bowl of soup comes w your order…(took them a while to begin serving it to me, because I’m white and they thought I didnt want)… soup is not from a can… *very inexpensive This is the rare amazing greasy hole-in-the-wall chinese food place w chinese cabbies hanging out and other regulars types. If you want a heightened fake experience of this… then go else where… the real deal is bare bones what you see is what you get… If your actually into that… that here it is. I was sort of on trial with this place for a while… testing to see if I’d get sick if I went there too often… which I didnt(I’m very sensitive to bad food to put it bluntly, and if I go somewhere too often where they do funky stuff to their food I get sick. all I can say is, they are mostly likely using fairly decent ingredients etc or else I would be getting sick by now) They serve very grounding decent meals. the vibe is friendly and laid back kind of feel. I am usually the token white guy in the place… but I dont get the feeling of sticking out like a sore thumb, a couple of times I’ve gotten into the convos with the cabbies about whatever… The food is very inexpensive. A meal will run you between $ 4-$ 10… I usually pay… about $ 6 w tip. tea, soup and main dish… $ 6 and this place is getting bad reviews… In all seriousness you guys are crazy…

ok, so this place is just around the corner from my apt. I had been dying to try this place because it’s always packed with chinese people during lunch and dinner. I can see how not ordering in chinese will be tough. I’ve been here twice and ordered the roasted duck noodle soup and the wonton soup with noodles. It’s ok. I’m wondering if it’s packed because of the special dishes or if it’s just dirt cheap(rice plates and noodle soups are all $ 3.25 to $ 4) I did like how they customized my order with no extra charge(i added shanghai bok choy in my wonton noodle soup). I’ll be back when it’s busier and look at what everyone else orders. Expect updates :)

This place had been on my list to check out back in its previous incarnation as «Yummy Lotus.» When I finally made it around to Chang Wang it looked like the establishment it had been except for a new awning and a new name on the menu. Same Cantonese BBQ birds in the window, same crowd of almost entirely Chinese patrons. So while out on a walk through the neighborhood my wife and I found ourselves here on a weekday somewhere around lunchtime. It’s an old school joint where you may end up sharing a table with strangers. The service was attentive, the décor was about as low rent as it gets and the food(a «three kinds» congee of beef, pork and squid for me and a «beef stew noodle soup» for my wife) was exactly what we expected: classic lowbrow NYC Chinese for pocket change. The beef stew noodle soup was more than my wife could finish! I sampled some of her bowl and found it tasty. The congee was as good as many places that charged more and went out of business over the last few years. This would have been a three star review until I remembered what it cost: $ 8! Consider this a two or three star joint that earns an extra star or two for value as long as you’re willing to go with the flow and appreciate it for what it is: an old school Chinese joint where the food is tasty and obscenely inexpensive. I fear the time will come when a joint like this could no longer survive in Manhattan. I plan on enjoying it while I can, especially when lunch for two is $ 8. I don’t care whether or not my wife thinks I’m a cheapskate when we both talked about lunch here for a couple weeks after the meal. How good is that?
