I like local mom and pop shops but I don’t recommend going to this hardware store unless you are in a jam and don’t have any other options.
The prices for most things are impressively high. But, that’s fine. If you need it, you’ll pay the price. The issue I have is with the customer service. When you buy something, the manager will tell you that it can be returned. But when you come back to return it, they won’t accept it even if it is unused and returned the same day it was purchased. Just make sure you’re aware before you make a big purchase — the prices are really crazy and the store policies are ad-​hoc at best.

They pack a lot into a small space. Prices are on the better side of these bodega-​like hardware stores too, I think. I got a shower liner for $ 4! I was in and out in a jiffy.

This seems to be the week of out-​of-​town visitors at the Shea D/​Margot G household, and we’ve been in desperate need for a new shower curtain liner for a while now. Not wanting our visitors (that’s right, there’s an «s» at the end for a plural implication) to see the liner that turned not pretty, we naturally waited until the last possible second before buying a new one.
I walked over to this little hardware store that I’ve been a patron of once or twice before to find the unthinkable… a random shower curtain liner in a mesopotamia of locks, hammers, and A/​C units.
Lo and behold! There was not only a shower curtain liner available for purchase… there were OPTIONS. The one that I selected was $ 4, and even includes those cool magnet things that stick to the sides of the bathtub. This is true of most random items that you can’t find at the local Duane Reade or Rite-​Aid even though they’re supposedly a «convenience» type store. Other items we have found here have been big pasta dishes and replacement water filters for my PUR refrigerator water filter.
While the manager is not overtly friendly, he’s nice enough if you have a question or you’re paying for your items. Just as well though. The overly friendly manager or store staff person tends to annoy me. Just let me locate my items in peace and then take my money! Is it really that hard?

The managers at this hardware store are friendly and helpful, unless something goes wrong. I was a customer of this store for several years until they mis-​cut some keys. Having bought correctly cut keys at another store, I went back to Broadway Hardware — one day after the original purchase — and asked for a refund, with keys and receipt in hand. They refused. After some discussion, I asked if they could even apologize for their mistake. They refused. They offered only to recut the keys, which I didn’t need, and said I was being «unfair» by asking for a refund.
I’ve always tried to support this local business, but knowing that they will take such an unreasonable position after selling a completely defective product, and to a loyal customer, I’m not sure I can ever trust them enough to buy another item here.
