While the place is ok and the food is decent i have a complain about a tall bold black man in his sixties with muscular built that claimed to be the head of security. He was so rude and combative that he brought me to tears. Came here with my girlfriend on a Monday evening. Told them that we had no reservation to which the girl replied it would be a few minutes. I am also 6 months pregnant which is quite noticeable and cannot stand for to long. Their bar was also full at the time as well. So while my girlfriend went to use the bathroom i walked up to the muscular bold idiot about 20. minutes into the wait to kindly ask about our table. His reply was rude, combative, ignorant and quite frankly scary. He told me that they just spoke to me and that i need to have some more patience. Also that they are a bussy rstaurant and that their business does not depend on my and my friends two plates and that we are welcome to go elsewhere if i cannot stand and wait like i am suppose to. To make the long story short, i will never step foot in this restaurant again nor will my family that has been coming here for over 10 years. And I hope that this scum of a man gets his one day, just like he brought me to rears for no reason i hope that someone brings him to his knees and teaches him a lesson that he deserves.

This is a place that will feed your out of town and very hungry family with Italian classics and family-style portions. I’ve been twice now with my family because they are huge pasta lovers so our go to options are: The calamari, lemon chicken, garlic and oil pasta, and mixed seafood pasta. All heat up very nicely the next day too because you will have leftovers for dayssssss. The lobster in the seafood is a pain to get out and your likely to get sauce all over you while you fiddle around with the small fork and lobster cracker. but I think that’s applicable to any meal where lobster in the shell is involved. #Firstworldprobs. Also, oh, I really love the foccacia bread they serve too. Make sure you sop up some sauce with that stuff.

Carmine Is a Fantastic Family Restaurant. I suggest you call ahead for reservations because big families book ahead. Waiters and Servers gave excellent service. I just wished they gave out a menu instead of me turning my head to view the outrageous huge menu they hanged up. The food is exquisite.

Consistently delicious family-style Italian food that never disappoints. From graduation dinners to large family get-togethers, Carmines’s has always been our go-to spot. Everything is always fantastic(save room for the delicious desserts!) but my favorite is the chicken parm. Be sure to plan in advance – reservations book up quickly at times – and definitely make sure you have room in your fridge for leftovers after. Can’t wait to return!

Having dinner at Carmine… and very disappointed. .the waiter brought water. but didn’t offer anything else. The guy who was holding the door when I walked in let go as soon as I walked toward it. As I walked toward the hostess and greeted everyone not one single person acknowledged me .I seriously debating leaving a tip. However I know I probably will because it goes against everything I am, I will not ever set foot in Carmine UWS… I went to Carmine Atlantic City and was treated way better.

Had dinner at Carmine’s last night and absolutely loved it! If you are looking for a place to host a group dinner, look no further. Carmine’s serves family-style southern Italian food, «like grandma used to make.» Even the restaurant is set up that way… my friend and I sat in one of two 2-tops. All the tables are built for groups! So are the prices — the menu has a lot of variety but is still pretty limited to the usual suspects, and each plate(well, platter) will run you about $ 25-$ 30. There are no small portions here, so I can’t recommend this place for a date night or two girlfriends catching up. We ordered spaghetti and meatballs, and the PLATTER carrying the food was the size of both of our heads combined. We ate until we were stuffed, and still took home a large serving. The meatballs melted in my mouth like buttah, and the parmesan cheese at the table definitely set off the dish even more. For drinks, we had the strawberry lemonade, espresso martini, Italian Manhattan(VERY boozy), an old fashioned, and a glass of chianti. All as expected. My favorite part about the night was the atmosphere. With so many groups — friends, families, birthdays, graduations, etc., there is such a full, lively, loving, and collegial air about the restaurant. Everyone there was in a great mood, and between 10 and 11pm the restaurant was constantly singing Happy Birthday. It made me feel transported away from NYC and into someone’s grandma’s house during a big family reunion. I was ear-to-ear smiles the whole night. Since Carmine’s isn’t set up for small groups, I will need to round up a few friends to come back and visit… especially to try their famous dessert, the Titanic!

Made reservations for a birthday dinner with a party of 7. Table was located all the way in the back and smushed between other tables so there was little room. Waiter was late and ended up having a manager take our drink orders. Sodas were flat. Ordered the Calamari and Cesar Salad for apps which were delicious but the Lasagna and Chicken Marsala tasted like something out of a can. We brought our own cake and called ahead to make sure it was ok to do so. When we arrived they told us of a $ 2.50/person cutting fee for the cake which was not mentioned. Hostess was a little rude but ended up waiving the fee due to the fact it was a birthday dinner and the experience was not great. Overall, not impressed– just a glorified Olive Garden.

My brother & I throw a surprise birthday dinner for Our Mother and we choose Carmine’s. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the restaurant and I was very pleased. As soon as we got there we were seated and our meals came quick. The food was Delicious and so were the drinks. Everyone ordered different meals and we all shared and the Titanic dessert was good too. My mom enjoyed her birthday she loves Italian food so this restaurant was perfect! We will definitely be back again

Came here for Mother’s Day. Was completely packed, but food never disappoints. What was disappointing was the service. I understand they were busy, but forgot 2⁄3 round of drinks we ordered and have to re-order and they just never came. One downside was that it was EXTREMELY loud.

I love this place, when ever my family or friends are having a get together, we always go here. The place is always busy, so make sure you make a reservation. The food is beyond amazing and the portions are bigger then any family style I’ve ever seen. They also don’t skimp on the alcohol in the drinks either — so be careful lol its very easy to have one to many! definitely a place that takes pride in its establishment!

Had such a wonderful time here last night! I am a NYC gal who now lives in Dallas, TX and had to get my Italian food fix at Carmines. Sat at the bar with several of my best friends and Carlos took such great care of us. Espresso martinis and lemon drops were delicious. The manager went out of his way to hook up me and my girls once I told him I came in from out if town. We had a very nice corner table set up. Ordered the baked clams, penne a la vodka with chicken and shrimp parmigiana. Delicious as always! They came and sang happy birthday to one of my dear friends. Helped us to keep our phones charged. The hostesses were very attentive too! It was a packed Saturday but everyone there was professional and very happy to make our night a great one. The manager runs a good staff. Thank you for making our get together a memorable one!

I’ll admit it: just the badass name«Carmine’s» is good enough to earn the first star. Imagine how hip you’ll sound, «and after dumpster-diving at The Dakota we popped into Carmine’s for cioppino, chianti and cannoli.» And the second star for ambiance that starts when you swing open the heavy doors and enter a swanky old lobby with a bar to your right and a wide set of steps just ahead leading up to the large dimly lit dining room where perhaps De Niro is waiting, pissed that you’re late. Seated, something’s amiss but you ignore it. Roll to the other side, fluff the pillow and keep your eyes closed because, damn it, the dream is awesome. But it’s slipping away and clawing back to sleep is futile. «What the hell is that big billboard of a menu?,» you ask yourself. «Is there really a dessert back in Italy known as The Titanic?,» you question. «Is ‘family style’ a euphemism for triple the price?» And please tell me that is not really what they are passing off as table bread. You’re awake, closer to a caricature than Sicily. But the mood is festive, the smells are intoxicating and the massive steaming mounds of red sauce-drenched spaghetti heading to the next table has rekindled the imagination. Both annoyed and delighted by the third waitstaff chorus of Happy Birthday, you swirl the folk and delight that it’s now you with the enviable spread that may not have been cooked by mama but has enough of her touch to forgive. The truth is you never met a strand of spaghetti you didn’t like. A portion of the eggplant parmesan was undercooked but the rest was delicious. Everyone at the table is smiling and(yes!) you’ve got leftovers. While Carmine’s ain’t Little Italy you’re still coming back for more.

The bar is classic NYC tavern, stately and well stocked where old world tonics and new world cocktails are made with consistent precision. Conveniently located in the waiting area, be sure to stop there for some P&Q’s as you wait for your table to be called. The food as most people know is served family style, on huge platters. What may not be as widely popularized is how good the food is. Fantastically good! With portions of this size along with the taste, be prepared to spend extra hours(days) in the gym trying to work this meal off. MUSTHAVES: 1. Scarpiello wings. No words to describe them. They are enough reasons in themselves to go to Carmines. 2.Tiramisu one of the best in the city. If you can still manage to eat another morsel after your entrée, the tiramisu which is surprisingly light in texture will be the proverbial icing on the cake. Carmine’s is Italian food heaven.

Oh Carmines — how I love you and hate you. I love you for your delicious Italian food. I hate you because I need to fast the entire day before coming due to guilt and then I have to fast the entire day after to physically become hungry again. I have been to Carmines in Times Square a times and finally for my Mother’s birthday, we decided to try the other location uptown. I have to admit, coming from Forest Hills, Queens, it was kind of a pain in the ass to get here. To be fair we took the train, but parking would have been atrocious and just a pain in the ass. We met our grandparents here and they were coming in from deep Brooklyn — also a pain. The food was very close in quality to its Times Square location, so i think given another shot, I would go to Times Square in a heartbeat. The Times Square location I will say is a bit more touristy and tends to be more crowded and noisier. Otherwise, same. I am all about family style meals — and so is Carmines. I love the Italians and their huge portions — they just get me. For the amount of food they give you, the prices are really reasonable. I would recommend coming with at least a part of 4 so you can try several dishes. I went with my sister one time and I felt awkward ordering 2 dishes even though it was enough food to serve 6 people. Anywho, our party of 6 ended up ordering calamari for an appetizer, chicken farm, pasta with clam sauce(garlic and oil) and rigatoni with sausage and broccoli. Everything was amazing as usual — my grandparents who typically only enjoy classic Cantonese cuisine enjoyed it and even took home leftovers. My super Italian friend even gave her stamp of approval. Finally, we shared the chocolate torte as a birthday dessert. It was definitely more than enough to be shared with 6 people. If only Carmines was located in a more convenient place — it would be perfect for me to bring my boyfriend’s family. Please open a location in Long Island soon!

My new favorite restaurant! My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine’s Day and had such a great time. Pros: The service was amazing. We were seated about 10 minutes after we arrived(we made reservations) and our server was very nice and patient. Even close to the end of the visit they didn’t try to rush us out which was very nice considering this place was packed! The food! Omg! It is family style so the portions were huge and everything was so well done and fresh. Definitely will be returning!

4:30 reservation on a Saturday and the place is packed. Thank GOD we had a reservation. We were promptly seated and handed menus. Since this is family style we didn’t order to much. There was 9 of us. For appetizers we had the fried calamari which was fantastic – we had mussels that were tender and the sauce is like eating soup. OMG. Stuffed mushrooms and a tri color salad. Fantastic salad. For the main course we had spaghetti with meatballs, penne vodka and chicken parmigiana. All I will say is WOW for everything. The flavors are intense on everything. Tender chicken cooked perfectly and pasta that’s just a little bit firm. There was so much food we had leftovers and no one had room for dessert. I definitely love Carmine’s food but I feel we were rushed tonight. It was busy but in and out in 1:15 is pushing it.

The Quick: Over the top portions of delicious Italian food for reasonable prices. The perfect spot for a big group, with an even bigger appetite. The Details: Penne alla vodka, chicken parm, large salad, amazing complementary pizza bread… I could go on and on about what I love about this place. As a full-blooded Sicilian, I rarely go out for Italian food. This is one of my few exceptions because of their great service and incredible ease of accommodating large groups. The Damage: We had 2 pasta entrées, a chicken entrée, calamari, Carmine’s salad, pizza bread, dessert and coffee for ~$ 45 with tax and tip included per person. Did I mention we all took him leftovers? Such a steal if you’re a big group. Instagram: SkinnyGirlFatFood

Came here for my Uncle’s birthday. He was visiting from overseas and my family wanted to show him how we do family style meals in the states. Reservations were easy to make and the hosts were friendly and helpful. The meal was great and the large plates of pastas were awesome as always. Their white clam sauce tasted well balanced and utterly savory when it’s drenched over the pasta. Had several more dishes but can’t recall them aside from how pleased everyone was. What I do remember was that we ordered the Titanic for the birthday boy and it was huge; practically a mountain of ice cream. Large enough for my entire 9 person family. The drop for the final star is because their waiter/busboys, who were clearing the table next to my table, spilled a large glass of water all over my sister and that really dampened the entire night. The guy that spilled the water failed to apologize and only when I complained to my server did we get some paper towels to start drying everything off. I understand it wasn’t on purpose but it’s just poor manners to spill and run without an apology. Tempted to make this a 3 star review but everyone else did their job and did it well. I shouldn’t punish the entirety of the establishment for one person and their mistake.
