Went to this place to visit with my fiancé to meet some friends. I must say the service was horrible. Drinks were okay. Floor was dirty, had curtains to cover the buffet area, very tacky, looked like a bathroom. Can’t say much about the food. Cause all I had was greasy appetizers smh.

NEVERAGAIN would I come here. If I could this place would receive negative marks for this review. SPAREYOURSELF the trouble of going here. Food was average, drinks were watered down, hookah was bad and service was ABSOLUTELYTERRIBLE!!! Our waiter took FOREVER to get us drinks and food. One of our dishes was wrong and had to be returned which added more time. Our waiter never came back during the meal to check on us. Then in the end they rip you off with the check. I had brought a Groupon so when the bill came I knew we’d have to pay tax and tip. They give themselves their own tip in the bill and did some crazy rounding situation which even when we called the manager he could not explain!!! We had to sit that man down, get the menu, and provide him with a whole step by step math lesson with pen and paper because their numbers were completely off! No way would I ever had tipped $ 20 for that crap!

A little loud for a conversation. Appetizers were great while entrees were terrible. 3 stars for groupon deals and happy hour. Servers are great, Just ask which tables are being served by Ruby! She was awesome and took great care of us. P.s she has a lovely smile :)

I had a great time here on cinco de mayo with my coworkers. Eating, drinking, dancing. The music was so loud in such a tiny space though that it literally has caused me hearing damage. I have temporary tinnitus.(Well at least I’m hoping its temporary.) No amount of fun is worth going through this. If you wanna have fun here protect your ears. But I’ll never go there again :(

This is a really nice spot to meet up with friends after work and relax. Its walking distance from my job so I really like that, also it is the only place I know in midtown that plays a mix of Spanish(current/new music) & English music so that a plus for me. Its a very diverse crowd of people so I like that too. The drinks are reasonable priced, and the hookahs are great. I haven’t tried the food here though.

In my previous life as a working girl this was definitely in my lunch rotation every week. Seriously you can’t go wrong with an almost 10 meal in midtown like this. The lunch specials are affordable and as busy as I was they delivered almost every single time without any fault. Each lunch special came with rice(yellow or white), beans(red or black), maduros or macaroni or salad. I tried every thing but my go to has to be the bacalao. Even now as a SAHM I crave it once in a while. One less star because they a couple of time had to call me back cause they ran out of something and didn’t realize it till after they took my order. I prefer to do delivery because the food seen to be fresher than at the buffet line

This place is the worst at delivering food. Waited more then an hour for a simple order. When I called the women on the phone said«oh your food is here, the delivery man said he’s on he’s way over here» I said Ok I understand that… but I’ve already been waiting more then an hour. she really said«well I don’t know what to tell you. soo… « Wtf! what kind of response is that!

From the beginning i already caught a bad vibe. Soon as we walked in, this big ass ugly gorilla looking humanoid wearing a «security» jacket patted us down. Not saying that i like being touched by other men, but he didnt even do a good job; anyone can easily sneak a weapon into this place. After king kong was finished molesting us, our waitress started walking us to the back of the place. Immediately, my attention was caught by this long sliding curtain that did a horrible job at covering the buffet machines. First the security guard, and now this curtain; now i knew the kind of place Café Nuñez was. When we finally reached the back, it was so tiny; i wasnt sure whether you could consider that area a lounge or just a bar with a lot of standing space. The waitress mustve thought we wanted bottle service, so i had to make it clear to her that we were just here to eat. She walked us all the way back to the front and gave us a small table for 2. For appetizers, we shared a plate of 2 Mofonguito De Camaron. I didnt know what to expect. Surprisingly these were actually good. Whatever sauce was poured all over it, really gave it a great taste. Not only were the plantains perfect(not too hard or too soft), but the shrimp inside were delicious and of a good size. For entrees, i forget what my friend ordered. I had the Chicharon De Pollo with Yellow Rice and Black Beans. That was also surprisingly good. The plate came with a lot of chicken chunks, an enormous amount of rice, and a big bowl of beans. The amount of food couldve easily fed 2 people; im surprised i finished of all it. The chicken chunks were boneless, not oily, and nice and crispy. The bowl of beans wasnt like most places, where they just give you a bunch of dirty water and throw a few beans in there so that you dont complain. The rice itself was packed with flavor; it didnt need any beans poured over it. As simple as the dish was, i was very satisfied with it. The dessert was a different story. There were a few options on the menu that interested me, but everytime i asked my waitress for one of them, her reply was«sorry we dont have that». So i had to settle for the Tres Leches. Since the appetizer and entrée were great, i was hoping to have my mind blown away by the dessert. Unfortunately that wasnt the case. The tres leches tasted like something out of a bodega; one of those cakes that they keep in a plastic container. Im pretty sure all they did was take it out of one of those soda fridges and throw it on a plate. I took a few bites and thats it; I didnt bother to finish the rest. Overall, the place was small and narrow. The people in the lounge area seemed pretty«casual». But they were definately having fun. I guess this is a place you go to when youre on a budget. Definately not somewhere you go when youre on a date or trying to impress anybody. I dont really care for ever returning. Big shoutout to our waitress Chislaine for being very attentive and social. I used a groupon, so the entire experience wasnt the worst in the world.

Came here on a lunch break. Wanted an upbeat space to shake off my please-let-it-be-the-weekend-already funk. I wasn’t disappointed! The place somehow manages to boast a restaurant and a lounge. The restaurant-half is composed of a buffet style counter and small intimate tables with a rose each(such a beautiful detail). The other half has dimmer lights, has counter top, small tables and a full bar. It’s pretty perfect. And dear God the food. Being a Dominican, this felt like home. Everything was so delicious and tasty. I had yellow rice, pastelon de platano amarillo, friend tilapia and pollo guisado. So much for my diet! I regret nothing, it was incredible. Turns out, however, that I chose the all-you-can-eat option($ 15.99) because my waitress said I couldn’t sit down to eat with the other option, a per pound system. But low and behold, many people were eating with their per pound meals. Oh well, you live and you learn. In the end, it was worth it. I found a gem and i’ll definitely be coming back. I just won’t choose the all-you-can-eat option, particularly not during a lunch break! haha.

Would be 5 stars but my girl got some garlic and olive thing that was WAY garlic lol Burger was good. Service was friendly. Hookah was great. Mixed mint and peach into one hookah. Don’t know if they change las brasas(coals) — we got here early and was empty but by 730 the back area was jammed with loud celebration … It was excellent people watching … If you don’t like loud you might not like it! Haha

Truly disappointed, what happened to cooking with passion. This was so mediocre as far a Latin cuisine, the black beans were runny like water big no no In the Latin world. They also put all the fat from the pernil on my plate. The Maduros tasted dried up, how long where they sitting in your restaurant? The only thing I enjoyed was the passion fruit drink. Come on café N bring back the passion in your kitchen.

*check in for a free drink* I came here for dinner one Friday night expecting a nice dinner to catch up with a friend but oh my goodness this place is so loud we were pretty much yelling over the music to talk to one another. Service was painfully slow, it was a mission to flag down the waiter each and every time and she didn’t even check in with my table. The food was acceptable, but that’s about all I can say. The best thing on the menu was probably the chicken empanadas, but that’s just my opinion. Would I be back? Probably not.

So, I visited this joint twice. Once to check it out with a group of friends & the second time with a Unilocal deal. A mistake. Atmosphere is D.E.A.D. Wait, no. DOA. Literally. It’s definitely more of a club atmosphere per the music. The décor? It’s like a diner. The music is way too loud that you can’t hear yourself think. Constant rap, merengue, r&b, etc. The food? It’s really good actually. On my first visit, I tried some of the chivo guisado, which was amazing! The second time I had oxtail which was okay, but it was cold around the borders of the oxtail & hot in the middle. Sad. Drinks are okay. Mine were sufficient, some stronger than others at both visits. When I came the first time with my group of friends they complained of watered down cocktails. It smells gross in this place too. The service is so poor here. It’s extremely slow. The requests you relay to the servers aren’t carried out completely. Improvements needed: Service, décor, atmosphere, heating of food, & strength of cocktails. There is a lot of potential at this spot. But coming here was like taking seven steps backward and then two forward. Hence the number of stars given.

The food tasted good. And that’s about the only positive sentiment I can express about my first(and probably last) visit to this establishment. It was exactly a week ago from today, plans had been made, noshing and imbibing were the priorities of the night; unfortunately, the venue of choice appeared to be the biggest obstacle into accomplishing our prime directive(s). Upon entrado, the large space of tables and chairs was bare. The first in our party(including myself) chose a spot in the middle of the floor; at the center of the room, no doubt we’d have full undivided attention through the course of the night, right???: insert Charlie Murphy«Wrong! Wrong!!» gif :** more on this in a bit. The server was disinterested and distracted from the start. We had to ask for menus and for water… some things that I actually take for granted, and assume are mandatory items in restaurant/bar experiences(now if we were talking about bars that just so happen to serve food… that’s a different story); however, this joint is first and foremost a restaurant. If you look close enough at the Unilocal offers that this place has on its page in the Unilocal app, you’d see a $ 20 for $ 50 deal, as well as a check-in offer of a free cocktail with check-in. Pretty straightforward stuff, am I right? Again…: insert Charlie Murphy«Wrong! Wrong!!» gif :** as far as the check-in offer went, our server simply pointed to the bar and barely put together a collection of words that amounted to «go, talk to him.» Myself and my friends happily strolled up to the bar, revealed our free check-in offer, and were greeted with a curt reply of «only one per table!» As a person who prides his credibility(and ability to read fine print), I skimmed over the offer once more and saw no such specifics or limiting language to that effect. Alas, Mr. Mean Bartender was adamant as to the limits of the Unilocal check-in offer, and I graciously offered that my friend could go ahead and use it(though I tried to pull a fast one and said, «if it’s only one per table, then I’ll just sit at the bar by myself!» No dice on that attempt. When stragglers in our party managed to appear, we had to break the bad news to them about the shortcomings of the check in offer. Our collective remorse wasn’t relieved very well either after considering the happy hour. A selection of massively watered down well drinks for $ 5(one of the most nerfed G&Ts that have touched these lips), as well as $ 6 beers(Corona, Heineken, etc.). I kept thinking that $ 6 sounds awfully like regular priced beer bottles… but whatever works. I wish I could say that the stream of drinks was steady, but as mentioned in paragraph 2, our server would disappear for extended periods of time, never checking in on the needs of our table at her own initiative. Instead, she was a beacon of inefficiency and neglect. If one of us managed to flag her down, she would take a sole drink order and not bother to check if anyone else at the table needed another refreshment; if you want to make more work for yourself, then by all means. However, my food wasn’t god awful… and the pork and goat options as ordered by a pair of my companions were met with thumbs up. I got a pernil pork sandwich; the pork was a tad dry, but the spicy mayo provided to me was tasty and added just enough moistness to what could have been a dangerously dry pork sandwich. Also, the sandwich was a bit light on the pork(please see my photo, looks like its just two pieces of bread). Unfortunately, while a few of us managed to get food into our bellies, friend #4 waited over an hour for a beef dish. By the time it came out, our party was ready to leave, so he just got it to go. A whole lotta ridiculous. At least the $ 20 for $ 50 deal worked! No invisible limiting language there… however, even with that deal, your money is better spent elsewhere. I’m thinking a spot with better customer service, a place that honors the language of their check-in offers(if you’re not going to, then remove it), and a place that doesn’t have overly dry pork sandwiches. If that’s too much to ask for, then I guess I’m just an entitled piece of trash(: insert Charlie Murphy«Wrong! Wrong!!» gif)**. **see Charlie Murphy«Wrong! Wrong!!» gif here:
