Friendly service. Iced mocha was very chocolatey but otherwise just like any other average coffeeshop. Great location… but other reviews said you can’t sit for long to take advantage of it. Excellent snacks. Get the cinnamon sugar doughnut!

Whenever I have business in Manhattan, I go here for really tasty pourovers and muffins. I think the baristas are pretty friendly and I like how it feels tucked away from the street madness. My only gripe is that there isn’t any juice option – but hey, I’m from California, so I am probably just being a health food jerk by expecting it.

Nice little café. I thought it had a gentle atmosphere, though you are discouraged from bringing your laptop out. Can’t really say too much more about it since I was only sitting here for a half hour.

Café Grumpy has been on my caffeine fix list for awhile. Conveniently close to my new office, I stopped in on a busy Wednesday morning. The way the space is set up is a little strange. You have to go all the way to the back of the shop to order then migrate towards the front for your latte. Kind of confusing for first timers but thankfully I ran into my coworker(who’s a regular) and she pointed me in the right direction. The coffee here is good. Definitely worthy of the praise. I decided to try some banana bread and, let me tell you, it was pretty bangin’. I’d go back just for that and make Keurig coffee in my office. A few tables and chairs for conversation and working, but in busy midtown, this spot is really best reserved for grab and go.

Very ordinary over priced coffee, that is neither smooth nor clean. The pour over provided contained substantial sedimentation; which obviously should not be present. Furthermore, the service is slow and disorganized. What do you want me to tell you about a place that refuses to keep lids near the counter where they serve coffee

This places lives up to its name a reputation… As many other have said, the service here is given with the grumpy, ‘too cool for this gig’ face, and the coffee is fantastic, so I guess its a wash. Also enjoyed a piece of pumpkin bread with my latte, both were well above average! Sadly, I like a coffee shop to sit, relax, and often to work on projects that involve my computer. This is a computer free zone. It dose free up seats, and people don’t appear to over stay their welcome. However, when you’re looking for a work space, you better look elsewhere.

I appreciate a good cup of coffee. And the coffee here is very solid. My office is on the same block, and with the Starbucks on the other end of the block(and Dean & Delucca nearby), a little variety is appreciated. Why only 3 stars? The layout inside is totally bizarre. They have one oversized table in the front that requires people to scoot in and out of a long bench, and ask fellow patrons to move(think: when you have the window seat on a plane and have to ask the whole row to get up every time you need to pee on a long flight). It’s just silly in NYC, and makes it impossible to meet anyone there(tho many try valiantly).

Grumpy has been in this location a couple of years now, and I happy for that. This area has too many Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc… According to an article in Epicurious Café Grumpy is one of the best coffee roasters in America. The article had 19, in total, and was split in different sections. Café Grumpy was in the«On the rise» section.(I am not sure when the article was published) That seems like a great achievement. There were only 19 listed, and a few coffee roasters, I prefer over Café Grumpy did not make the list. I certainly think, Gimme Coffee is better. But, anyway, congrats to Café Grumpy. Maybe, as a whole, they should not be so grumpy, anymore I do enjoy their coffee, but I no longer enjoy going to this location. Some of the baristas take the grumpiness to a high level. There is a young guy, that works weekends. He gives the impression, he hates to be @ work. He kinda sits in the background, waiting fro customers… He sure does hate to put down his phone when a new customer comes in. But, he does make good drinks, and I’ve never been served a bad drink at CG… Grumpy has been in this location a couple of years now, and I happy for that. This area has Starbucks, Coffee Bean on Paris Baguette.

Coffee is among the best I have had in Manhattan, in terms of consistency, strength, flavour etc. A big THANKYOU for listing prices with tax already included(!) and not charging extra for milk variants. The only drawback is still in terms of price — $ 4 for a flat white that sits inside a tiny cup(why?), while you can order a latte at 50c more which is much more worthwhile. Reviews about not allowing laptop usage… I guess it is up to the café whether they allow it or not. Technically someone can bring their iPad in, watch a movie for 2 hrs and that would be okay? Traffic flow remains busy which would be enough of a deterrent for most to sit themselves down an extended period of time.

Staff’s definitely honoring the café’s name. Too cool for eye contact. But their coffee is good.

Standard coffee shop, great to grab something on the go if going to Grand Central Terminal. They serve bold coffee flavor but don’t have flavored syrups. Almond milk and honey are bonuses!

Delicious flat whites in a relaxed atmosphere. I also like that they don’t allow laptop use which prevents people from overstaying their welcome in this small space(only seats about 20). Great location for that’s not too busy on this recent Sunday visit. It’s located just far enough away from the touristy Times Square that keeps it comfy & cozy. I will be back again & again to this coffee spot!

I wish this was here when i worked in NYC. Also, i will admit that the appeal of being the coffee shop featured in HBO’s girls did make me venture to Café Grumpy. The place is definitely off the beaten path a bit as most places in the Garment District. I rate most coffee shops by how they brew a simple hot coffee. A medium black Guatemala coffee please. Pricey, but nothing out of the ordinary for NYC/midtown. The coffee shop is laptop free! Which is a nice touch, but given the location, i would find it terribly difficult to get any work done. Either way, it was nice seeing people just sit and chat. The space is a bit tight and I can only assume it might be pretty crazy during morning rushes? The door is next to the condiment/milk/sugar area which is next to the drink pick up area. I had my backpack on, and almost hit someone behind me with an open cup. Coffee was really good. Really impressed with the flavor and finish. One miss — the sleeve for the hot cup melted off which made me hold a really hot cup while on the train. Staff was indifferent but not a deal breaker for me. Probably my goto coffee shop if i get off at Port Authority.

I’ve been to many small coffee shops in NYC and Café Grumpy is one of my favorites… especially this location. It’s cozy and quaint feel makes it the perfect spot to meet up with a friend in Chelsea for French Pressed coffee. Their loose leaf teas are delicious too. I must say, if you’re looking to get work done online, this is not the coffee shop to camp out in. They have a no laptop policy, which I really appreciate because it gives you a space to be disconnected from the rest of the world… read a book… write down your thoughts… but not so much of a place to get your online business done. Make sure to try their baked goods. The cookies are always a win.

If I ever stay near West 39th, this is the coffee shop I will go to. This coffee shop is in the Fashion district. They have excellent drip coffee’s and latte’s. This is the first coffee shop that I have seen that has a no-laptop policy to ensure everyone can relax and have a seat. Highly recommend if you’re ever in the area!

Soy and almond milk options! I had a really amazing soy latte with latte art(: Not much to say except the latte was excellent– not too strong, not too weak. The atmosphere is really calm and peaceful. 1 large wooden table and a few window seats. No laptops allowed here– talk to your friends! Or read a book. Standard variety of espresso drinks. They also have cold brew coffee.

Small cute quiet oasis in a busy area. Blueberry hibiscus tea with one of their giant cookies makes for a great snack while catching up with friends. Service is always nice and friendly. Also could’ve sworn I saw Maggie Gyllenhaal here one time.

I like this location the best out of their other spots in Manhattan! My sister loves their coffee, so it must be delicious since she’s such a coffee expert: P I don’t drink coffee, so I get their hot chocolate which is good. They have kids size drinks, and they even asked if the hot chocolate should be at a kid friendly temperature, FYI. Haha.

Their cold brew is great, despite being overpriced. I was rather disappointed with the venue though. It’s rather tiny and has only two communal tables. There isn’t enough room to take enough space for yourself, so I ended up having to listen to the conversation of the people sitting on the same table until I was done with my coffee. I don’t really get the point of their no lap-top policy, since people are still allowed to read, surf on their phones, etc. and stay around for a long time anyway. If I ever return, I will probably just get take out instead of staying in.

My favorite coffee place in NYC. Smooth creamy cappuccinos. Best coffee I’ve had in years. Also not crowded by people on laptops, so you can actually get a seat and enjoy your coffee.

Coffee here is top notch but I’ll be honest that it gets way too crowded and loud to be able to sip and enjoy your cup of espresso. Also — you can just disregard all the reviews talking smack about the staff not letting you use your laptop or what not. You can’t blame them for wanting to stop people from camping out all day long. I recommend the flat white. If you love good coffee, come to café grumpy. Plain and simple.
