For such a yummy burger, and it indeed was a yummy burger, I just couldn’t give this place more than 3 stars. Service here completely sucked! The waitress was nice but completely lost. My friend and I ordered two burgers, two orders of fries and half a pint of tap beer each. First she told us they didn’t have half pint glasses… um what? Then she forgot our fries. Then, when we reminded her she only brought us one order of said fries. And then… we had to ask her for the check…3 times. Maybe she was having an off day or maybe I’m a bit harsh but it was kind of a bummer.

Lunch time: Great ambiance, relaxed but not divey in the slightest. Open spaces, benches full bar and table seating. Will definitely come back, bartender openly friendly and courteous. Smaller portions but this ain’t the Midwest, so I was happy & content with the shake and bacon burger. Only thing is I wish they had a lunch special that included fries and a drink. Can’t wait to bring friends to check out at night.

While it was a very hectic and busy night, my experience here at Burger Joint was disappointing. The server was very rude when taking our order. Our drinks came out very quickly, and after waiting for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, our fries never came out as the server forgot to put the order in. We decided to cancel our fries and call it a night.

After some hiccups when opening a few years back, they are now consistent and getting it done. Burgers and fries are excellent.

I have a thing for a greasy burger that takes two seconds to order, is served in paper with the first drips of grease peeking through before you fully unwrap it. You might say it’s my happy place. Burger Joint manages to always keep its burgers well seasoned and greasy and messy. The way I see it, eating a burger should always be a messy event, and Burger Joint seems to be in agreement. Ordering a burger should also take about two seconds; you either want a hamburger or cheeseburger and you either want it all gussied up or plain as the nose on your face. Once again, Burger Joint understands. That and you can eat your burger basking in the glow of a giant plastic zebra. I think the zebra gives it a little something extra. It seems wrong to knock a star off a place called Burger Joint over fries but it’s the only thing that seems to be inconsistent here. Sometimes they are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — just right if you will; sometimes they are just crispy– burned through and through some might say. Although, this is always salvaged by an appropriate amount of salt and presentation in a paper bag. As it should be. Anyone who likes a weeknight burger at Burger Joint is probably alright by me.

We dropped by the Burger Joint at around 8 on a Saturday night. I saw that other Unilocalers recommended the bacon cheeseburger so that swayed me that way. They include lettuce, tomatoes, onion, ketchup, mayo, and mustard if you want it. We ordered two orders of fries to share between the four of us. The side of fries definitely ran on the smaller side so I might recommend 3 sides for 4 people to share. The burgers were well cooked, flavorful, and tasty. The bacon was fresh and was the perfect addition. I thought the burger portion was a good size and the prices were extremely reasonable. My friend ordered a cookies and cream shake and loved it. I thought it was a tasty burger, fair value, and would definitely come back!

You’re not a basic bitch, but you love basic done right. If you want your burger to be about the meat and not the bells and whistles that the herd want, then you’ve found your place. Basic to you means the best flavor and It doesn’t mean burgers disguised in sauce and toppings; That’s for the common folk and you have an elevated palate. What makes this perfect for you? The quality. From the perfect ratio of lean to fat, the basic/perfect bun, and the basic and necessary toppings, to the consistent taste. City vs Burbs. Calvin Klein vs. Herve Leger. New York vs. LA. Style or basic bitch. What your taste level is… dictates your preference. Stand up and be counted, Felecia.

One of the finest burgers in the land. West village location much bigger than the original, but still maintains that kind of beach shack vibe. Better than shake shack or any similarly priced burgers. In my top ten, easily. And I eat a LOT of burgers.

A very fine cheeseburger. Kinda beach shack feel. Lovely staff. The only small criticisms are the shake was too sweet for me, and it’d be nice if there was a veggie option on the menu.

Been here a few times in the past year, I really liked the shakes and fries when I went last year, but just went a few weeks ago and was REALLY disappointed! In general, I am not a burger person, but my husband loves burgers, and I like trying things, so I always take at least one bite. So I’ve tried this burger many many times and it was always okay, just because I’m not a burger person. My husband always really enjoyed the burger. We came here a few weeks ago and had a totally different reaction, we felt that the burger was very mediocre, I don’t like comparing real establishments to fast food, but this burger was expensive and I felt was comparable to unnamed fast food that also serves cheeseburgers… Everything about it was meh, the meat, the bun was cold and low quality, portion size was small, flavor was meh. To top off our food experience, our bag of fries was 1⁄3 full! Felt so unsatisfied! Previously when we’ve come here, the bag was always ¾ full and the fries were good — since I don’t like burgers, and my husband used to love this place, we used to come and I would just get a bag of fries for dinner, which is why I remember how full the bag was! Anyways, not sure if this place has changed ownership, or is just trying to survive by cutting back on certain things, ie quality of food, and serving size, but we were not happy with our last visit and will not be coming back. The one redeeming factor of this place is the ambiance is really nice, there are a few larger tables, and booths(good for groups). There is a bar right when you walk in. typically we would order at the back and then get seated, however, this past time a waiter came to our table(another change which makes me question if this place changed ownership). Anyways, this place has a cool vibe and we really enjoyed meeting friends here for burgers and beer, but think we will be finding a new spot now. Overall … I would not recommend this place to others, for a burger and fries there are SO many other places that are more satisfying!

How have I been going to law school around the corner for 2 ½ years, and missed this joint? I came in after a final with a friend who’d just taken the same final, in the mood for some burgers and beer. We got both, and I got a new regular burger joint whenever the craving hits. FOOD: your options are burgers, cheeseburgers, bacon burger, and bacon cheeseburgers. They also have a «vegetarian dish» if that suits you(grilled cheese), and of course the usual sides like fries. I opted for the basic cheeseburger(cooked medium) with a side of fries. Not only did it come out quick, it was delicious! Fries were great too. DRINKS: pretty typical bar with a few different selections on tap. Nothing to write home about, but it certainly gets the job done. PRICES: I was initially confused when I saw the lower prices because, after all, this is the village. Take a deep breath… … Ready? $ 7.50 for my cheeseburger. In Manhattan. In the village. I. KNOW. I wonder if they have a happy hour because it was just silly that my beer was $ 0.50 less than my cheeseburger. AMBIANCE: they’re no frills and they know it. Your«menu» is a piece of cardboard reinforced with packing tape. I dig it. You food is served already wrapped up, and the fries come in a paper sack. Like I said, they’re no frills. Know that before coming in so you can enjoy it for what it is. SERVICE: we sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. At times she’d join our conversation and other times she’d stick to herself. I like bartenders who can do this: not be completely standoffish when we are the only two people sitting at the bar, but also not overloading us with her presence. Bravo! In sum? Loved this place. Will be back.

On a constant search for excellent Burgers and on a rare visit to NYC with a few buddies who said«Hey Seb find us a burger joint» I Unilocaled up the closest best bet and it was Burger Joint. This side street stripped down dive décor is far from appealing but then again has charm that many places around the country attempt to emulate. A bar seemingly built from scrap material and stocked with enough liquor one person can carry in their arms. So so sad that my beer was warm and I got a glass of ice to continue drinking it. As friendly and sweet as the bartender was she was fair to midland on the level of attentiveness and service savvy. Hey no worries this is about the Burger so bar shortcomings can be overlooked if the star of the show is epic. Sadly the star never showed. The burger like our bartender was fair to midland. Bobby Flay says a burger wrapped in paper adds something to the experience. A burger wrapped to go while sitting at the bar is a joke. I’m not going on a class trip here. The thick white butcher paper hid a snack not a meal that was more pickle that patty. Plain ground chuck was not the perfect medium rare but just too rare. Nothing special on the beef front no great juices running down to my elbows. The bun was a generic grocery store bun, boring and ordinary. The cheese was actually the one shining component but too little too late. Big thick pickle chips and paper thin tomatoes onion and less than green section of iceberg lettuce were a welcome addition but the meat needs a supporting cast not vice versa. Additionally the fries were so close to McDonalds fries it seems like their food runner ran down the street and came back with them. They came served in a paper bag, greasy seepage was a staunch reminder of my future inevitable heart disease. Take it from the burger Searcher if this is among NYC’s best then it’s a sad day for all urbanites. Do your research there has to be a gazillion better burgers is the city. Find it and get back to me. FoodDude

I was so excited when I first heard there was going to be a burger joint near my job, since i can never make it to the midtown one. However, my excitement has gone away after stopping by friday night. Table service is very slow, and I do not think its the servers’ fault. I think this place in understaffed. Although it wasn’t a packed night the dining space is quite big and the two servers we not able to keep up. It took about 15 minutes for us to get the attention of the server in order for us to be able to place the order, and the same thing happened when we asked for the check. The burger was decent, definitely not what i was expecting. It is not the best burger in NY as many claim. Actually, Shake Shack makes better ones. I had the bacon cheese with«everything», which in Burger Joint does not only mean tomato, lettuce and onions, it also means condiments. It would of been nice for the server to explain what everything means instead of assuming I knew. I think he condiments had a negative impact on my burger experience because I wasn’t able to taste the meat patty as much as I would of liked. Yes, they put so much condiment that it overpowers the entire burger. On the other hand, the fries are to die for. I can see myself walking to this location just for fries. They are addictive and they give a good amount for the price. My friends had three milkshakes, vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. And they recommended the chocolate, because the strawberry tasted like just strawberries and vanilla was too bland.

Solid burger and as far as i know — it’s the same burger joint that’s a part of the parker meridian(sp?). The food is good, drinks are good, and there’s table service. Do yourself a favor and get a burger. It’s a solid burger!

There’s few surprises to be had at Burger Joint. The original location, which is hidden away in Le Parker Meridien Hotel in Midtown West, promises exactly what’s in its name; predictably, the second location in Greenwich Village offers a similar experience. While some of the grungey-ness is lost on the 8th Street spot, it’s hard to say that it’s a bad thing. On sunny days, the venue is easily brightened up by the expanse of windows at the front, highlighted by rows of booth seats as well as a handful of stools against the bar. You come to Burger Joint for, well, the burgers. The Cheeseburger, clocking in at a modest $ 7.50, came out as requested with«the works»(lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mayo, and mustard), wrapped in a sheet of paper. The 5 oz. patty, modestly sized put still substantial enough to be cooked to a medium, was tender and juicy, but could have used more seasoning in the mix; thankfully, though, the additional condiments helped make up for it. On the other hand, the bun was also too airy and unable to support the patty fully, and shrunk into a miniscule layer by the time we finished eating. We shared an order of the fries, which came out in a paper bag. As most have already stated, these most closely resemble the ones you’ll find at McDonald’s; they’re on the thinner side, fried to a noticeable crisp, and lightly salted. With a side of ketchup, it’s almost impossible to go wrong with these and it’s a good option to help round out the meal. While the food at Burger Joint isn’t particularly remarkable, it’s a reliable bet at almost any time of day(or night). Come by yourself or with a group; either way, you’ll be welcomed with a burger, a beer, and a little piece of NYC’s history.
