We just moved in a block away from Brod Kitchen, and I am so excited that we found this gem! At first impression, I thought Brod was simply a bakery. To my pleasant surprise, we discovered this weekend they serve a full breakfast — complete with eggs, home fries, etc., as well as your typical bakery breakfast items(i.e. bagels croissants, muffins, etc.). They also have lovely sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. My fiancé absolutely loves the egg sandwich(on a multi-grain bagel, as the bagels are delicious), and I enjoyed the omelettes very much! If you order properly, Brod is reasonably priced. However, I did notice some items, i.e. rotisserie chicken, are a bit pricey. That said, most items are organic and homemade, so that is a fair trade-off in my book. Summary– great spot for quick, healthy and fresh meal, just look at the prices before ordering. I’m sure to be a regular in the near future!

Strangely one of the best places to find a bagel in the area. Perfectly crusty/chewy/fluffy. It’s kind of a shame they only have a few kinds(plain/sesame/everything) and a couple options of cream cheese. The sweet rolls(cinnamon, cardamom, etc) are also really good.

Best breakfast menu. Such a good price $ 5.75 for an omelette w/spinach and feta, toast, and home fries. Not a fan of their lunch since they removed the burrata tar tine. It was seriously the best thing on the lunch. It had fig and balsamic drizzle on a focaccia that was baked fresh. Took my family here for a quick bite and they were raving about it. Like most of their side orders of veggies: asparagus, quinoa salad, pickled beets, and brussels sprouts; all made daily.

The food here is 1 star, but I’m rounding up to 2 stars because I like their hazelnut and iced coffee. I also like that they have a self-serve coffee bar for you to basically grab, pay and go. No need to stand in line and wait to order like at Starbucks, perfect for when you’re rushing to catch the train to work on weekday mornings! I absolutely would not recommend this place for their food, or at least not for their breakfast. I’ve been consistently disappointed by their bland eggs and home fries which I have to douse in salt and/or ketchup to even remotely enjoy. I’ve ordered this on 3 separate occasions hoping that each time would be better than the last, because I’ve been giving them the benefit of the doubt that I went on a bad day.(Also because this place is literally right round the corner from where I live and I really want it to be good.) I’m not sure if they’re purposely going for tasteless food(since they give packets of salt, pepper and ketchup on the side). But even if they were trying to be healthy by cutting out sodium in their food, I don’t understand why they can’t just throw in some simple spices/herbs like garlic powder or paprika so that there’s at least some flavor in the food? This place can become pretty disorganized when it gets crowded. The person taking your order may be different from the person keying it into the system, and as a result they’ve missed my order once before. I’ve also witnessed them getting orders mixed up and giving the wrong food to people. After the third time of being disappointed by the food, I think I’m going to stick to just coffee from now on.

**can’t possibly be a coincidence given what they did to my previous mediocre review for their ues location — for the first time in years of reviewing, Unilocal somehow merged a legitimate 3-star review of their new location with their old location, even though i added the listing with the correct address and described the location itself in my ‘first to review** brod kitchen is currently soft-open on the corner across from nyu stern in a bright, modern space that’s apparently 3x the size of its ues original, but certainly doesn’t seem like it. there isn’t a mention on their site of this expansion(just social media, where they don’t even list the cross street), but they push the same smorrebrod-centric concept, and most students seemed to step in and right back out on my visit, so we’ll see how they do, and if they only attract euro-tourists. the chocolate cookie was solid, but questionably priced.

I’m not sure what happened when I came here, but my experience was not like some of the others on Unilocal. My friend and I stopped in here because the ambience is just so cute. One of those cool kitchen tile décor type places. In any case, all we wanted were eggs, and omelette, a pastry, a coffee, and a cappuccino. Simple enough, right? Well, first the lady behind the counter taking our orders did not understand the eggs order(even though the menu said two eggs). Over medium we wanted. They kept on saying«You mean the omelette?» I ordered the omelette. They weren’t sure what meats they had initially. We were rung up at the counter, but we hadn’t finished ordering. So then we got a pastry. They then printed out a receipt for us to take to the front. At the front, we ordered a cappuccino. The machine was not working, and sputtered out a watery espresso. We weren’t charged for this, but we also couldn’t get a cappuccino. I then ordered a coffee. Luckily, it was self serve, so that went OK. We grabbed a seat and realized that we didn’t have a number or anything. So we went back to the counter and picked up our two egg orders. Items were plain and really small. No seasoning on the eggs. We also didn’t have knives, forks, etc. I had to go back up to ask for this. Then I realized they forgot to give us the bagel/rolls. They looked confused, then gave us the bagel and the wrong roll. It was an unbelievably convoluted process for what should have been a very simple order. People were nice, but it was just really frustrating. For the price, things should have been run better.

What a delicious little place for a nosh! If you’ve never had a smorrebrod before, I would highly recommend checking this place out. I had the egg salad(custom made) and avocado. My sister had the avocado and curry chicken(antibiotic/hormone free) and my mom had the salmon and tomato basil. We were all very happy with our choices and would go back again.

I had the pasta salad, brod with avocado and smorrebrod — instead it was on a biscuit instead of bread — with crème fraîche and pieces of daim bar chocolates on top. I don’t eat bread so I was left with 3 pieces of avocado to munch on, the dessert was pretty decent, as was the pasta salad. The store looks clean /tidy, bright and inviting enough but there is absolutely no where to park your car around here during the day time(unless you don’t mind getting a ticket).

Clean, fresh, friendly service! An array of fresh food, organic and hormone free meat and fresh vegetables. Priced well and great for a pop-in lunch or snack

I usually get bagels for breakfast and I had a couple of their sandwiches. Overall, food is good but overpriced for what you get. Coffee here definitely needs work. I asked for a cappuccino and waited while I watched the lady at the cash register help other customers. When I asked for my cappuccino again, she pointed to a machine behind her. I didn’t know that specialty coffee drinks were self-serve. The cappuccino was not good and was overpriced. Overall, the place is fine if you’re in a rush and have no time to walk to the many other sandwich places nearby offering better food or value. For Parents… The food is too«busy» for my kids so not the best place for them. On a scale of 1 – 10 for being picky though, my kids are a 6. Food is overpriced for kids in my opinion. You’ll end up being disappointed and your kids will be hungry.

Overall, the lunch landscape on the Upper East Side from 63rd to &72nd is especially barren, with more Yoga studios than food places in the stretch, and after working in the area for a few months now, I really appreciate the owners that did decide to open a food place, however, it’s impossible to continually go to a place for lunch and spend nearly $ 20 for 1 person, which is what the situation is like at Brod. I really want to like it and I really want to come back often, because the food is pretty good but the poor rating is because it’s very over priced. $ 8.50 to $ 11.50 for a small sliced bread sandwich is insane — and that doesn’t include tax — so it ends up being a $ 10 — $ 15 for a small sliced bread sandwich and that’s only for the sandwich. My $ 20 lunch day came when I decided to get soup & a water with my sandwich. That was in March and I’ve only decided to come back in June. I was also disheartened that when I came recently, the sandwiches were pre-made ready to be toasted, when in March, they were freshly prepared. I’m always still hungry after eating the sandwich, so I only decided to come recently because I brought snacks & sides elsewhere. Clearly, I’ve learned my mistake from the $ 20 lunch day — it’s better to go to an actual restaurant if you want to spend $ 20 for lunch. Finally, I find it rude when non-waitress service places have places on the receipt for you to leave for tip. If the workers need a tip, here’s a tip for the owner, pay them properly from those profits you’re making from $ 10 sandwiches. Sorry Brod — I wish you could be my go-to lunch place, but I’d be hungry fool.

I’m never on the UES, but I’d been over at my boyfriend’s so we decided to stop by for breakfast before he had to go to work. It’s a pretty big space, enough seating for at least 18 I’d say? Plus the line moves pretty quickly, of course you do have to wait for any hot item. They have a wide array of beverage and meal options, although they’re definitely overpriced. I saw a bottle of juice that was priced at about 10 $, when I could’ve gone across the street to Duane Reade and gotten the exact same juice for half the price, absurd. Also the fruit they have on hand isn’t the best quality, many of their apples were bruised, small, and overripe. I was pretty tired considering it was about 8 in the morning, so I didn’t really investigate what their options were. They do have soups that smelled really yummy though. My boyfriend got the two eggs on toast and I got a plain bagel with lox spread. His sandwich looked a bit sad, especially compared to the breakfast place we usually go to near my apartment. My bagel was alright. I usually don’t go for lox spread, too cream cheese-y for my tastes, and this was definitely the case for my order. I would’ve gotten an ordinary lox bagel but they were charging 9 $ for it, about 4 $ more expensive than the place near my apartment, so no way was that happening. All in all, this place is overpriced and not anything special. If it wasn’t for the fact that my boyfriend lives nearby I probably wouldn’t come back.

The 2 stars are for the cordial customer service, because I actually had to call them. Defeating the sole purpose of ordering food via seamless. This is a review for their seamless delivery. I always walk by on my way to the F train and decided to order breakfast. It seemed like a good idea, since the place LOOKS clean and efficient FROMTHEOUTSIDE. The delivery takes forever and they forget things every time, which is awful because you have to be that guy who has to call and make the delivery person come back with what they’ve missed in your order. DON’T EVERORDERSEAMLESSFROMHERE. It’s absurd. Packaging for the egg platters — at least for the items, that actually get to your door– is nicely done. I can’t say the same about the hot chocolate/hot drinks because will arrive cold and spilled all over the place, but the worst of all: your croissant or fruit salad will be forgotten. They don’t include butter for your toast either, which is a sad joke. The chocolate brioche is dry and definitely not yummy. They ran out of chocolate croissants. HOWCANYOUBETHATBAKERYONSEAMLESSTHATFORGETSYOURCUSTOMER’S CROISSANTAFTERCALLINGTHEMABOUTIT??? WHY? HOW? I feel bad for the delivery people who sent to the building both(and absolutely last) times, because it was definitely not their fault. They walked those few blocks to deliver my food — ridiculously late — but they are actually the servers who work in the bakery counter(they were wearing the aprons and hats) and definitely not the delivery guys on the bike. Making Brod’s delivery«system”/“strategy» even more questionable. What a disappointment.

Pretty cool neighborhood place on the Upper East Side — aren’t these always the best kinda places compared to the large boring chain restaurants? I ordered a heated Turkey Sandwich with Sundries Tomatoes and it was except ally good… or I was crazy hungry… likely both. Washed this down before for client meeting with an «Honest Ice Tea». They make I house cookies so I had to boost my sitar intake with a big Chocolate Chip cookie. The sandwich maker and everyone else I encountered were very pleasant. This is one of those small, quant quickie spots you visit when uptown in NYC.

True to its name, this place serves quality bread! I found this place in the morning, and I craved and ordered a breakfast sandwich — bacon, egg and cheese on semolina sourdough bread, instead of some of the other fancier items they have on the menu, such as the smørrebrød or small and fancily-decorated open-faced sandwiches, the several kinds of soup, and several kinds of cake-by-the-slice on offer. The sandwich itself was pretty ordinary — the contents had the flavor of common bacon, egg and American ‘cheese’ one would find at a typical budget deli. The bread itself was a moist, chewy and rich-flavored sourdough that almost contrasted with the more plain contents in between. In the future I’d order a sandwich that would promise better contents that would do this superior bread some justice. The same comments apply to the loaf of peasant sourdough bread I purchased(one pound went for $ 5, two went for $ 7, so I picked the latter). It is a crusty, but not too tough, moist bread with an earthy and hearty flavor that I love. It is filling, and practically tasty enough to eat on its own. Service was alright on my visit, with no reason to give me complaint. The establishment — more on the side of a café than a restaurant — has a clean and contemporary look, with a small seating area.

Nice, modern bakery/café that took over the Hot & Crusty space, and it did a nice job with its inviting look. A plus is the spacious, self-serve coffee/hot drink station. Their BUTTERNUTSQUASHSOUP is yums! I even got to try a sample of their SMOKEDSALMONSANDWICH thanks to Unilocal’s Holiday Hangover Cruise. Everything looks delicious, I will return for more! Will return!

I wanted to LOVE this place, really really wanted to. This area needs a place like Brod but the food was mediocre at best and they messed up our order and then the order of everyone around us who sat there to eat. It was not pleasant. As a result, we aren’t going back here. But they do have potential, as long as they start getting orders right.

**The review is based on a large catering order from Unilocal’s Holiday Hangover cruise, so it may not reflect the true quality of the food from the restaurant** Brod Kitchen serves up Nordic cuisine, and I got to try its signature dish called the Smørrebrød. These open-faced sandwiches resemble tartines from Le Pain, but the ingredients are much fresher and fancier. I tried the Pear & Camembert Smorrebrod, Gravlax Smorrebrod, and Goat Cheese & Honey Smorrebrod. Despite the foreign names, these sandwiches use familiar ingredients that most people love. The Pear & Camembert incorporated fresh slices of pears, camembert cheese(soft cow’s milk cheese), dill mustard sauce, and micro greens. The Gravlax is a pile of smoked salmon, dill mustard, and pickled cucumbers on rye bread, while the Goat Cheese & Honey is soft, spreadable goat cheese and a drizzle of honey with toasted hazelnuts and thyme. Brod Kitchen is very generous with the ingredients and everything tasted great!

When I first came to this area if I’m not mistaken there was another bakery on this spot. A few months later I saw a sign that said closed for refurbishing. A few short weeks after that I noticed this sexy new building and promised myself to test their sexiness. I’m so happy I did! It’s a super clean contemporary space. My visit was close to closing time and I was impressed. As you enter the smell engulfs you as if you’re walking into grandma’s kitchen. I’m not a sugar/sweet fan but I enjoy seeing beautifully constructed pastry and I buy them for my loved ones or for thank you gifts from time to time. This trip I only fed my curiosity and got a cinnamon roll. I thought the prices a bit steep but after the first bite melted so deliciously in my mouth I so believe THEY’REWORTHIT! Other than pastry I noticed sandwiches and soups and I’ll be back for more treats for sure, it was that good! The End.

I came and ordered one of their roasted chicken sandwiches. I saw the chefs slice the large roasted chicken and prepare everything by hand. Delicious food, and once again the prepared dishes looked great! The portions aren’t huge so Brod can seem pricey, but it’s not unexpected in NYC
