I tried Brewla bars about a year ago for the first time at the South Street Seaport and loved them– I think I may have eaten like 3 that day. I love how healthy they are and that one of them, the coffee flavor, packs such a caffeine kick(so much that, upon learning that my corner café has the bars on the menu, I did replace my iced coffees during the summer with the bars from time to time). Very cool concept with great flavors(I think I’ve now tried them all, though sometimes you can’t get all varieties at any one location that sells them). I also keep the bars in the freezer during the winter because I like having healthy snacks around the house.

I had my first Brewla Bar the other day and it was kinda, sorta incredible. I was really impressed with how much it tasted like a root beer float(it was the root beer flavor) and the consistency of the flavor from bite to bite. I never even thought of a root beer flavored ice pop before, but it is a great idea. I always loved to get ice pops from the Ice Cream Man(caps for reverence) when I was a kid, but now that I’m older I find the artificial taste really off-putting… Brewla Bars are perfect because they taste ‘real’ and still have all the sweet deliciousness you remember from your childhood(not to put memories in your head or anything). I am looking forward to trying on of the expresso ones later in the week and will keep my eye out for new flavors next time I am in Whole Foods.

Brewla is BOOYAH!!! :does a little happy dance: because 1) Brewla bars are just awesome and 2) I beat WING L. in Unilocaling about this place. A couple reviews ago I challenged him to a popsicle throwdown, which he accepted and issued a challenge on who could get to Brewla faster. Winning never tasted so sweet. Brewla’s popsicles are a new twist on an old classic summertime favorite by making their popsicles from different kinds of tea. I had their Honey Vanilla Black Tea, the Hibiscus(and some other flavor I think), and the Peach Ginger White Tea. A few things makes Brewla stand apart from their competitors. 1) Different unique flavors you can’t get elsewhere(never had a Honey Vanilla before), 2) it’s made from tea, rather than fruit/fruit juice which is the standard staple of other popsicles, and 3) the creamy texture of the popsicle because of the small ice crystals due to the freezing technique used by the Brewla makers. In particular, it’s the last item that makes Brewla an especially delightful treat because I’m not crunching through large pieces of ice. All three flavors were really great. The Honey Vanilla tasted like a flavored coffee popsicle. It was the creamiest tasting of the three. The Hibiscus was my favorite though. On a hot summer day, the crisp tartness was very refreshing. The Peach Ginger was cool and good, but I could have had a stronger ginger flavor to it. But keep in mind I LOVE ginger and easily can inhale a bag of candied ginger in five minutes. There’s no such thing as too much ginger in my book. Support Rebecca and her brother Daniel in their new enterprise by visiting them at Lafayette Espresso(on Lafayette between Broome & Grand) on Saturdays and at Fulton Market by the South St. Seaport on Sundays. The popsicles are $ 3.
