The food was good, but nothing out of this world. I’m between 3 and 4 stars. The tomato soup($ 7) was pretty good! Rich and flavorful. The board with cheese and different kinds of proscuttio($ 22) was generously prepared, but came without bread which was kind of weird. But… The bread did, oh the irony, disappoint me. A bit dry. With better bread(come on Bread, you can do it!) this would have been a great spot. Will be back to check up on that bread.

The best food, music and staff. I have never had a bad experience here, but this was at their spring street location. I have yet to go to the new one.

New location. Off the bat, I love the interior. It’s modern but still home-y. Located slightly underground so it feels very spacious and you have a nice view of the outside. Waiters and waitresses are nice, but you can tell some are new at the job. The men mostly wear the restuarant’s T-Shirt, whereas the ladies are dressed casually or all glammed up(party dresses and rompers). Because the place was still new, it was not exactly the cleanest. The utensils were coated in dust, and the cup I was given had all sorts of dirt in it. The waitress brought me a new cup, explaining that since they’re new, the cup might have just come out of the packaging. Maybe next time things should be washed before given to customers. On to the important part– FOOD! I had the gnocchi which was not bad, but I wasn’t crazy for it. Friend had the Shrimp Salad which she said was too sour; I’m assuming she meant the dressing. The menu overall sounded really good, I would love to try more, but maybe after a couple more months, when they’re more accustomed to the crowd. I work less than a block away so I pretty much watched this place get built. Hoping it will get better as time passes. I’ve never been to the original, but I’ve heard good things from coworkers.

Never eaten there in person, but have gotten delivery many times. The bucatini is to die for! The sauce is flavorful with a nice kick to it with a good amount of meat. The pasta is cooked to perfection, al dente, not too soft, not too hard. I like to use the bread they give you to mop up the sauce afterwards, just heavenly. I’ve also ordered the Grilled Free Range Chicken with Avocado, tomato, mix green, chipotle on ciabatta. It is decent but I prefer the bucatini pasta. I’ve ordered hot chocolate and tea for delivery. I like their attention to detail. They wrap in tin foil and two cups, it doesn’t spill! Bread is moving 400ft down to 40 Kenmare street. They will open on 4÷15÷16. In the meantime they are still doing delivery. Source:

Their pasta was amazing. Their ambiance was beyond compare. I am SOSAD to have walked by this weekend and it was closed! I’m going to miss their outdoor seating and attentive bartenders. Everyone was so nice! I had a great experience the first month I moved into my apartment on the street and went in for some food at the bar. The guy next to me must have gone there every other day because he knew everyone and enjoyed his pasta by candlelight. Hope to see your amazing food and amazing employees soon! :) RIP :(

Used to order lunch from here often at my job but last week received a sandwich with a huge disgusting water bug/roach stuck to the side of it. While they were very apologetic there’s just no excuse for this. I ate half the sandwich before I saw it! I can’t stop thinking about it & one of their excuses was they were in process of moving that weekend & things were being jostled around. For that matter they shouldn’t have been open for business & serving food, bad management call. They gave us refund & $ 50 gift card but who in their right mind would go back there after having bug in food. So extremely gross!(Can’t figure out how to remove the one star)

Great food; for the ravioli dinner special and it was delicious. The panna cotta with chocolate was a wonderful way to end the meal — sweet yet light. Service was sometimes slow, but was always nice and knowledgable.

There’s only so much enmity I can feel towards this restaurant, since the Gilt City coupon gave me and my girlfriend three courses and a bottle of wine at an obscenely cheap price. Plus, the meal-with the exception of a lackluster penne-was generally very good. That said, the service-as other reviewers have pointed out-leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose the best that can be said of our servers is that they tried, which isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement. Also, could you turn the deafening music down a notch or two? This isn’t a dance club in the Meatpacking District. We’re there to eat, and to converse with our friends or loved ones, not rave.

[This review relates to a bar experience at Bread, not dinner.] We walked into Bread at 10:30 or so on a Saturday night. The bar area was intimate and attractively lit, so we sat at a corner and ordered a few drinks: a beer, a gin and tonic, and a negroni. The drinks were disappointing. The G&T ratio was off, and they used crushed ice! The negroni also had crushed ice(!), and a slice(not a twist) of orange. It was like getting drinks at the olive garden, or some place with completely unskilled staff. But this is a restaurant in Nolita!!! My advice to bread is to get a bartender; my advice to you is, only consider Bread if you’re going to sit down for dinner and order wine or beer.

It was delicious and not pricy for the area ! Only 4 stars because it’s cash only and it’s really a bummer when you pays fees at the atm

I’ve dined at bread multiple times in the past, and the food has always been exceptionally good. I currently have a more limited diet due to some health issues, and I saw the menu on Bread’s website could accommodate me. When I ordered breakfast in the restaurant this morning, they informed me the menu on the website has not been updated to reflect what they currently serve. They could not adapt the menu to meet my dietary restrictions and allergies(refusing to cook eggs without oil, not adding garlic to chicken, not honoring eggs any style). I ended up not being able to order a full meal And left hungry. Our server forgot to put in my friends order, and another table nearby had their order come out wrong. It’s too bad that Bread can’t adapt their cooking style so I can eat there. Most restaurants I find are very accommodating. All in all, it was a disappointing experience and an unfortunate start to my weekend. Bread has lost themselves a customer.

My sandwich was delicious. I had the grilled chicken panini, with avocado, tomato, and a yummy tangy mayonnaise aoli-type sauce. The sauce is described as «chipotle» but to me it tasted more of sage or tarragon — which I LOVED. The tomato soup looked and smelled good(a few of my companions ordered it), but I didn’t try it. Apparently, its amazing and famous so I will definitely try it next time. The service was quite good and the space itself is cute and pleasant to be in, with funky artwork on the walls. I really like the outdoor seating, and the fact that the tables are not too close together inside, so it feels a bit more spacious than most tiny downtown spots.

**THEIRONYOFTHENAMEISTELLING** Naming a restaurant«Bread» in Little Italy is making a statement. If there were a restaurant named Kimchi in Ktown, I’d expect them to have damn good kimchi. So I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect warm, seasoned homemade bread. Instead, I just got slices from what looked like a loaf I could’ve picked up at Fairway. If I want free carbs, I’ll hit up the Times Square Olive Garden(OK not really). But the bread here was subpar(and upon asking for another order, our server did NOT refill our olive oil/vinegar, neither of which were that good). I mean, seriously, you couldn’t think of a better name than«Bread?» I came here on a Living Social deal that promised an app, two entrees, and two glasses of wine/beer for $ 42. First off, only the two cheapest wines on the menu are included(it says this nowhere in the Fine Print of the deal). Continuing with the theme of Olive Gardenesque cuisine, the calimari was nothing special. I mean, fried food is still good, but for its price point I would expect something more than rubbery frozen stuff. The skirt steak was nowhere near medium rare and there were parts that were uncuttable with the knife provided because they simply had not been thoroughly cooked. The presentation of the homemade tagliatelle after expectations from its description was also frankly embarrassing – the piece of penne thrown in by mistake actually tasted decent, unlike the pasta that was stuck together in clumps and seriously lacking in sauce. Mushrooms were NOT fresh. Service was also lacking. Our waitress doubled as the bartender and seemed not as friendly as you might hope for at times – she asked us if she could clear the calimari from the table when the bowl was halfway full… obviously the kitchen was trying to rush our entrees out, maybe because we were eating late. The server bringing our food seemed uberly confused when we told him we ordered neither of what he had until our waitress came to correct him to the right table. Our waitress also awkwardly handed our check back after swiping our card without providing the receipt to sign and tip until we asked her a few minutes later. If you insist… The interior is chic and inviting – the place certainly looks the part. Ironically enough, the playlist was almost all hip-hop, with a special emphasis on the New Atlanta sound. But it was way too loud for comfortable conversation in such a small area. FINALVERDICT: Go elsewhere, especially if you want bread. Low 2 stars.

What a great night we had! Luigi is a beautiful person and excellent host. He has been the owner of Bread for the past 15 years so just that fact speaks for itself. Then the place is super cozy, you can tell it was built with his own hands and has a lot of history. From the time nolita didn’t exist till now where is one of the hippest neighborhood to hang in the middle of the week, right in the middle of nolita, little Italy and lower east side. The food is delicious, specially the tiramisu which I find hard to run into a place with a «real» tiramisu like grandma used to make. Also the chocolate mouse cake is a top choice for dessert. Savory speaking I tried only the shrimp and avocado salad which was perfect. Good enough to satisfy my appetite and with quality ingredients. Great espresso machine as you would expect in an Italian joint and the homemade bread made by Luigi’s bakery is the cherry on top. I wish I was more hungry to try other dishes but I’ll be back for sure, for more! The most important thing is the ambiance. Like Luigi said, nobody cares about the food, service or décor, it’s just a matter of how the customer feels and the experience they have. If there’s a good vibe then everything is perfect. And you can be sure this place has everything! And yeah… it’s perfect.

Bread is finished. I have been to bread more than a hundred times since the early 2000’s, and went so often, when we said let’s meet for lunch, my friends were already there. Last week I stopped by. A quick visit to the bathroom to wash my hands left me totally grossed out: It’s dirty, unsanitary and stale, and it made me wonder what the kitchen must be like. I then sat to look at the menu and didn’t recognize it at all. What happened to all the Panini’s? Now you serve burgers? I’m SO disappointed! As we were deciding whether to stay, our waitress came by to inform us they only take cash. Since when? For a month she said — saying they are trying to fix the credit card machine, but in the meantime, there is an ATM machine in the back. We couldn’t have run faster, and felt FREE to be back on Spring Street, unpoisoned! Bread was a pioneer of Nolita and what is the new Bowery. It was a staple for lunch and weekend vino for years, but then they expanded, opened the failure in Tribecca, and it was never the same. R.I.P.

This is a very cool place! I was looking for an outdoor restaurant to have brunch in Soho. Walking on the street, we decide to stop there. The outdoor seats were empty. The chicken sandwich was very good. My friend had some pancake. She said they were good but they looked like 4 small pitas(was a little bit ridiculous). Juice and bloody Mary was refreshing. This is honestly a very good address!

I am a little torn about this review. The drinks and the food were great. I had a cocktail special of rose water, mint, and vodka, and my friend had the Pinot Grigio, which she really enjoyed. We shared the prosciutto sandwich, which was great — they really do not skimp on the prosciutto — and the fries and salad that it came with were delicious. Our actual waiter was great. He advised us really well on our drink orders and was very friendly. However, we had a bad experience when we first walked in. We were going to sit at the bar, but two of the tools had something sticky splattered on them — we thought it was wine. The bartender came around and realized that it was balsamic. She cleaned most of it but when my friend pointed out that there was still more left on the stool, she handed her the paper towel and told my friend she could clean it. So we sat at a table instead. This was not a great start. Also — it’s cash only, and that is posted nowhere. They only told us after we were seated at the table, which was kind of a turn off. So I guess take the good with the bad, but I probably won’t be back.

Lapin and I came here last night for dinner. We heard many good things about the place and we couldn’t wait to try it. Our waitress/hostess was incredibly friendly and nice. We had tried a bottle of wine and didn’t like it and she gave us another higher priced bottle for the same price as the cheaper wine. She didn’t have do that but she really wanted us to enjoy our meal. It is very hard to find a waitstaff that genuinely want guests to have a good time. We were sat near the window by the fire escape. It had a nice rustic and intimate feeling. The bread they served was delicious but it tasted a bit stale and was cold. I would expect their namesake dish to be a bit better [hence why I took off a star]. We ordered Breaded Grilled Shrimp with lemon dressing which was 6 shrimp on a bed of lettuce. It was really good and both Lapin and I were sad that it finished so quickly. We shared an a bowl of Homemade Spinach Gnocchi with four cheeses, which was a bit too cheesy for Lapin. I personally wasn’t fond of the spinach… but that’s because I dislike spinach. I would have liked this dish more if the bread was warm because there was ample amount of sauce to dip bread in. Lapin got the Skirt Steak with roasted potato and caramelized shallots in Medium Rare but it actually came out well done. He didn’t mind as he really enjoyed his dish. I got the Free Range Chicken with Brussels sprouts and extra virgin olive oil potato mash which was a quarter of a chicken on a HUGE helping of mash potato. I ate a couple of bites before feeling stuffed to the gills. Overall, the food was good and decently priced I wish their bread was a bit better but then again, the bread was free.

A friend and I came here for brunch after being told a 2 hour wait(???) at Egg Shop. The restaurant had plenty of open tables, which I was a little skeptical of after seeing Mothers Ruin next door packed, but I was in the mood for some type of egg dish, and their menu had plenty of them. We got the cranberry raisin bread, the Normandy, and an omelet. The bread was especially tasty with the Gorgonzola and sliced apples, but the bread was pretty dry and it was presented like a sandwhich, so it was really awkward to approach. Our egg dishes were decent, but my poached eggs were overdone so I didn’t get the runny oak after slicing into it, and we all know that’s the best part. The complimentary bread at the start and the bread that was served as part of my Benedict was really fresh, which was good considering the name of the place. I’m not one to be over picky about service, but they were all over the place. We probably had 3 – 4 different people assist us and it was difficult at times to get their attention. 2.5 stars but I’ll be a little more fair and round it up to 3, since 2 stars looks so negative. The food isn’t horrible here, but the menu lacks creativity and could easily be replicated at a diner.

We came here randomly after a stroll in SoHo, and I’ve never had a more filling lunch for such a low price. I’m extremely picky about tomato soup, and theirs is out of this world. It has a tiny bit of cheese that when stirred in makes it absolutely perfect, but I was NOT prepared for how large it would be! I ordered the half soup/half sandwich combo for $ 11 and a coffee for $ 2. The«bread» that I got was actually a double decker avocado, arugula, tomato, parmesan sandwich and that itself came with a side salad with this incredible light dressing. This plus the large soup was more than enough, and I was stuffed for hours. What I need to mention is the unlimited focaccia bread they give you throughout the meal. They seem to bake garlic into the bread and douse it in oil giving it that perfect taste you would expect in a place called«Bread.» Dip it in oil and there’s half of your meal right there. I was five seconds away from dumping the rest in my purse before my soup came… Throwing this place a hard yes.
