We came here last Friday and it was more of by chance than anything. We were actually trying to go into another restaurant but it had an 1.5 hour wait, so eff that. Anyhow, we stumbled upon this place and for the most part the food was pretty good. The prices are pretty standard compared to other Japanese restaurants in the city and the décor is nice as well. In my opinion this place is really no different than any other Japanese restaurant in the city. So in short, if you live in the area, come through. Otherwise, just go to whichever Japanese restaurant is closer to you, it won’t make a difference.

One of the best Japanese restaurants that I’ve been to in the city! I had the hot sake, uni rolls, and the tuna steak. The servers were really nice and spoke Japanese. It’s a great place to eat before going to the bar. Not too crowded either, I went on a Friday, late at night. Definitely coming back here!

My friends and I accidentally discovered this place as we walked in the area. Never heard of it before but was welcomed with warm service staff. We decided to have a drink, turned out to be a full meal and more drinks. Prices are very reasonable. Love their vast menu selection of everything! I will definitely come back!

This restaurant is also listed under Jintan on Unilocal.Their menus say differently than their checks… interesting. But this is the review I posted UPDATED now… What a nice little surprise this place is. We pass by it all the time and always remark on the cool and genuine exterior. There are no identifying signs on the outside but you can tell it’s a Japanese restaurant. I really appreciate the décor and the tatami mats. I love sitting at those tables. On the menu it says The Jintan which is not on a sign outside the restaurant nor is a menu posted outside. I kind of like that though. Seemed mostly like local neighborhood New Yorkers dining there too. Which I appreciate. I even liked the music as did my boyfriend. The sushi is reasonably priced and they have a wide variety. I got the tako sunomono. The octopus was fresh delicious and generously cut. I also got a salmon avocado roll which was big and fresh. My boyfriend got a spicy tuna roll and a crab roll both he really liked. And our friend got the dragon roll which he liked as well. Definitely happy this place is in my neighborhood. It will probably be my new go to sushi spot. So we have been back here several times. Solid ramen & solid sushi. I always go for the bento box because it’s a great deal! This is a great little neighborhood joint.

They don’t even really have a sign, so can we still just call it Sapporo East? For those of you who remember and mourned the closing of the restaurant that previously occupied this space, I will say that coming to Beron Beron is like coming home in a way. Having been a die-hard fan of Sapporo East for ages and so bummed when it closed, I was glad to see that its replacement brought a lot of good to this spot. And now I can happily say this is an ode rather than an elegy. Beron Beron presents an offering almost identical to Sapporo East’s with sushi, ramen, various hot dishes, and other Japanese classics, etc. but the prices have gone up. The restaurant space has been renovated with lots of dark wood and tasteful touches, but the sushi bar is in the same spot and the restrooms in the rear have been fixed up which may have been long overdue anyway. There’s also some floor-level«traditional» seating up front if you want to go for that(we did not). As for the food — we were pleased that they had a lot of our old favorites — spicy avocado roll, various sushi and sashimi that were still great quality, pork gyoza, etc. and you can still order sake in a masu(wooden box) which was one of our favorite things here. Lo and behold, there even appear to be one or two of Sapporo East’s former staff working here(and one of them remembered us, and our weird special order that we always place — spicy avocado roll with ginger salad dressing(don’t ask, but it’s actually awesome)). With that, Beron Beron is effectively an upgraded version of Sapporo East with the only drawback being that it’s more expensive but we creatures of habit will return anyway because this is still our corner sushi spot and we are glad for that!

Vast variety of options from ramen, teriyaki, sushi, and fun starters. However, I came for sushi and I was disappointed. The basic rolls didn’t have flavor, the app was too saucy, and the ginger was pink(not white). It looks pretty but lacks the flavor. It might have natural strength in ramen but I haven’t tried.

One of the more comprehensive Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. The service was pretty quick and the menu was very thorough. The chef’s special menu had some interesting dishes we tried. Food was also very fresh and very delectable. Came around 6:30 and it was not too crowded, started to get crowded when left. Would recommend as a go-to for a solid Japanese restaurant in the East Village.

— comparable prices for sushi in the area but would say the quality of the sushi is probably slightly above that of the competitors — recommend: tuna sashimi, yellowtail/scallion roll — the bathroom, specifically the toilet, though mentioned by pretty much all of the other reviewers, needs a nod. they have a ‘FUTURE’ toilet, and yes, it’s super crazy and intimidating — they have traditional floor seating as well as tables with chairs(but be forewarned, I am 5’3″ and found the chairs to be super short.. .it felt like sitting in a kindergartener sized chair so I can’t even imagine what it must be like for tall people)

Fighting crappy weekend traffic to catch up with close buddies of mine, I was very surprised that the outside décor telling me don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Coming in, Saturdays is popping here. Enough said, my stomach had the«bring it on» appetite. Being hungry; I ordered the spicy fried asparagus, an appetizer definitely worth my 10 that is garnished with lemon and quickly deep fried with seaweed rolled with imitation crab spicy mayo and roe wrapping crunchy asparagus in the center. That ramen is no joke. The special ramen worth 12 dollars despite not having a spicy option(:() is bangin’. From the perfectly cooked juicy pork to the noodles with just the right texture and the really flavorful broth, what more can I say? This place offers real generous portions that my friend was«going to cry», really satisfying. The restaurant’s interior has such a great ambience and on top of that, these servers were so busy they forgot my water when I settled in but it didn’t matter cause their service is really on point that I gave one of the waiters a HUG! Not to mention, wish I had more time to play with their toilets. They have buttons!
