Eh. Barleycorn is a great place to go if you are going to grab drinks, but that’s about it. Bar is pretty expansive, it has a downstairs area dedicated to the bathrooms(and there are bathrooms on the main level as well). Tons of seating which is great, because when I was there it was packed. Pricing is in line with what you would expect from a bar in Manhattan and the service was good, bartenders were friendly. Really, the only reason I am knocking them down two stars is because of the food. I’ve read some of the reviews and a lot of people seemed to really like the food, so maybe I should have ordered something else or they were having an off night. Needless to say, my friends and I had ordered the mac and cheese bites and the nachos. Now I will admit that I am not a nacho person, and these nachos were ok, they didn’t blow my mind(perhaps it’s because I’m not a nacho person though). The mac and cheese bites which I was looking forward to, were pretty sub-par. I’m not sure why I was expecting something super tasty because it’s just bar fare, but they tasted like something that was frozen and reheated and not that good. Definitely was in need of seasoning to say the least. I would go back to Barleycorn, but I don’t think I’ll be trying the food their again.

Beautiful, stunning space. Some very friendly staff(Caroline) and some quite miserable(female bartender during EUROS). Guinness was shite. Food was decent. All in all, polarizing joint.

Went there yesterday afternoon with five of my very close friends who are all born and bred New Yorkers. Our intention was to have a nice lunch/dinner there, but unfortunately our server was very condescending and rude. I believe she read us a bunch of older out of town tourists and even tried to pull off a fake Irish accent. We stayed for a couple of rounds of drinks and some appetizers, but due to our server’s lack of interest and rudeness, we left and had dinner at another establishment. I do not usually do this, but I feel it it in the best interest of the owner to have this information as well as future patrons.

This place has a great selection of beers and every time I have stayed to eat, I was more then please. Downstairs bar is so long, I am almost always able to find a seat and when I cant, they have an upstairs bar too! The one down side to being upstairs is that their beer selection is limited in comparison to downstairs but overall, this place is fabulous and a go to for me.

I have to give this place a great review for 3, maybe 4 reasons– 1. On football days, all screens and mike is on. 2. The pretzel nuggets were on point – the best combo of oil/salt water fried. 3. Great craft beer list. 4. Pizza crust was crunchy, slightly burnt – perfect combo.

COLORMEIMPRESSED! We got married this past September and chose Barleycorn as our restaurant for lunch. We were a party of about 20 and booked the restaurant only days before. The service was exceptional, the atmosphere was rustic yet romantic, and to say the food was delicious would be an understatement! I must admit, I was quite nervous of booking a restaurant that I have never been to for our wedding lunch(specially with the crowd of foodies and career restauranteurs in our family). But the food, staff and manager at Barleycorn far exceeded our expectations! AND the prices are quite reasonable!

Buffalo wings were mushy, greasy and full of cartilage. I still taste them hours later, and not in a good way :(

A nice, huge pub. Typically filled with men grunting at sports on the tv, this bar is great for a group happy hour, casual drinks, or sharing a few apps. You can’t go wrong with the thin crust pizza, and the teriyaki wings are yum too.

Really loved the vibe and the ambiance. Mostly high tables — super casual. We ordered a bunch of apps, mozz sticks, nachos with steak, onion rings, burgers. Everything was really good! I would def go back for a drink, relax and have some good bar food. They also has tvs everywhere so awesome place to watch the games.

Barleycorn is a spot that if I’m in the area, that’s where I’m going. The menu is pretty diverse so there’s always a way to switch things up, which is cool. The pizza is honestly amazing if you’re into thin crust, which I am because of their pizza! I’ve also had their lobster rolls and they are sooo delicious! I’m not sure what they put in there but it’s definitely different than the average Luke’s Lobster(although, also delicious) not saying worse or better than; but, just a different recipe with a kick! The service has always been very nice and helpful. The first time I went, the waitress informed me and my boyfriend that the small pizza was huge and we were going to get the large because we thought the small was a person size. But she was so friendly and talkative in a good way, not an annoying way, just super helpful! So was every other waiter or waitress thereafter. And they’re also really knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to the beer, which I like because they’re mostly Irish beers so it’s great to have someone to walk you through your choice and point you in the right direction. I really ned to go when they have the $ 20 lobster night! Definitely give this place a try :)

Great place to go after work if you work downtown. They have a solid beer selection and good bar foods. Happy hour til 8 for $ 6 beers and wines and cocktails. Tuesday $ 1.50 oysters, Wednesday .50 wings. Not much of a dinner menu, just sandwiches and burgers. Stick to bar food, beer, and pizza here! Also it always has a pretty decent crowd.

Not into this place at all. When it first opened I was really pumped about how GIANT it was. The space has a really fun feel and is so big and spacious, but the food and drinks themselves leave a lot to be desired. The happy hour specials are not really specials at all(it’s like only $ 1 off a beer, pretty much). Drinks are on the expensive side, but I guess not for that area($ 12), but that’s not to say they’re a good size. I’ve gotten the bloody mary a few times and it’s tiny. They tend to be out of a lot of the beers, I’ve noticed, which is pretty frustrating. Have to be honest, I’ve never ended up ordering food because every time, I’ve come for drinks and snacks but there is really nothing on the menu that is small enough to be ordered with drinks other than the fries. I do not consider lobster mac and cheese a side that is «light» enough to be ordered if I’m just sitting down for a drink… regardless of the size, you need to be pretty hungry for that. I would highly recommend they add more fingerfood and sides to their bar menu!

For food, this place was pretty decent. It is definitely not your typical bar fare and presentation when it comes to the full menu. It seems they actually have a cook with some skill compared to other bars with a full menu. We were there for brunch. I got the Corned Beef Hash and partner got the Irish Breakfast. Both were decent portions that tasted great. We also got dessert which was an apple pie variation. Overall, really enjoyed the food. Service though was super slow. Our main server practically forgot us. We had to flag down another server that was basically serving all the tables. Other than that, it’s a big place that’s kind of like a quiet getaway from the hubbub in the area on the weekend during the day. Overall, a fan of the food but the not the service so much, but it is a great option for Irish fare.

Overall a-ok bar for after work hang-outs. My rating is really based on the ambiance. The food and drink rating would be 2 stars. Shrimp nachos were just fine, quick, bar food(not memorable in any way). They were clearly made with pre-packaged ingredients. I ordered the Bell Ringer — xtra spicy… it still only had a hint o’ spice. Grey goose dirty martini was WAY too salty. BUT the conversations and bonding that my leadership group had was wonderful… I would go again for 2 reasons: 1) Location: A lot of folks work in that area and it’s close to trains and the PATH, so it’s great for the 5:30 — 6 pm crowd. 2) I went to the University of Michigan for undergrad and grad school and quickly realized Barleycorn is a «Michigan» bar… Please note that my potential reasons for returning are NOT based off of the food and/or drinks.

This is one of the only bars in the area and with the atmosphere, i’m sure its just fine for a drink after work. My friends and I visited for dinner and drinks at around 8:00 on a weekday. We had two different servers, both whom were very nice, but it was weird that the first one just disappeared. I ordered the merger which i didn’t like at all. It was also pretty expensive. We ordered tacos and their pizza of the day. The tacos were alright but they served them without the rice and beans that they come with. The server said that the rice and beans comes with the burrito, not tacos. On the menu it says it comes with it. Whatever. He brought it out for us and the beans had a strange smoky sweet flavor. The pizza which was topped with chorizo, avocado and cilantro was okay. It was salty and the toppings were small and sparing. For the amount of money we paid for dinner and drinks, I wish we went somewhere else.

I came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch with a friend. We were seated promptly in a nice, velvet booth with a high top table. We ordered a Penne Chicken and French fries to share and it was plenty. Our bill was $ 26! Desiree was our waiter and she was friendly and quick so we were very happy with the service.

Cool place. We ate here Friday afternoon and were promptly seated at a nice high top by a super friendly hostess and our waitress was ready for us upon arrival with bottled water. We weren’t doing a big lunch but the beer menu was cool, the food was good(what’s up with the fries and why haven’t I had them like this before!!!) just the right portion for us. Restrooms are cool, clean and unique, no mens/womens, just a wall of doors with beer taps as handles. I can’t believe a place this size exists in NYC but it’s a real breath of fresh air and I can totally see this as a slammed after work hangout!

This place has a great selection of beers! Lots of craft beers, stuff from around the world, stuff you’re less likely to know and stuff you’ve seen everywhere — they have a beer for whatever you like! We didn’t try the food here, we each had 2 drinks and just hung out. The place is pretty grand with lots of dark stained wood, from benches to stools and tables to the bar itself. Very pub-esque but had that high quality feel. The prices of the beer varied too — from average ny prices to slightly obscene for some rarer finds. All in all it’s not bad and i’d probably come here again for a beer that i’ve never tried before.

Solid afterwork/happy hour spot. Why may you ask? Let me count the ways! #1: Very close to transportation in FIDI. You can see the train station from the front door, since it happens to be on Park Place. Also this is a hub of transportation, you can basically go anywhere from these trains(A, C, E, 2,3) #2: Expansive beer menu(for all of my beer snobs out there, dont be shy, … You know who you are!!! *wink*) #3: Great mix of people. Finance from AEXP and Goldman, Healthcare from HealthFirst and local medical spots, etc.) Get there early if you want to sit someplace. The team I went with supposedly got to the bar at 5pm and the bar was packed, eh hemmmmm… its Thursday… Plus if you are looking for a table to reserve, they usually are booked for a week in advance but if the inner event planner in you can’t «plan» that far in advance, if you call around 3pm they can usually find a table to fit your group. Happy Hour menu is decent enough and the loaded nachos look pretty solid. The bar’s ambiance is rustic, great lighting fixtures, all wood and 2 floors. Gets packed fast!

Someone on the Unilocal!feed in my town just posted a question, «What would it take to get you to a new bar?» My answer, build this place and take it back home. Warm, comfortable environment, great taplist, quick friendly servers, and fresh well made pub food standards. Done. Well Done. Needs nothing else.
