Barbizon Lighting I am a geek by profession and one of my hobbies is electronics so I am always in and out of electrical supply places and always in need of more and more specialized haunts. I recently came across Barbizon lighting on 55th and 10th. I was at a flea market and picked up a Lowell Stage lamp I wanted to convert into a house lamp. I needed to step down the 1000 watt halogen bulb(that could cook chicken) to something more reasonable. I walked over to Barbizon on my lunch hour and the guys were eager to assist me and genuinely interested in my project. This place does some serious stage lighting projects here in the City. While they were assisting me, one of the guys was reviewing an order with 25 line items for a stage lighting company – still, they did not blow me off or rush me out the door. In fact, I wanted to go a different route with my light altogether that would have cost more money and they worked with me to try a few things first which saved me money. I was able to step it down to a 500 Watt bulb, but still that is a bit bright even with the filters I have on it. They suggested a 600 watt dimmer, which I have but I am trying to maintain as much of the original look as possible and do not want to cut into the classic cord it has with the big on/off toggle. My next step is to swap out the FEL socket for a E11 Socket & bulb, which requires me drilling out the FEL socket and replacing it with an E11 socket. I have been calling all around the city looking for one but no one seems to have it in stock, nor were they interested in a single sale. I called back Barbizon and the rep said he would check and call me back. He called back in 10 minutes, even though it was bad news. I have to go on-line and order one. I love this place and if you are looking to trick out your digs, this is the place to go for some cool industrial strap hanging gear.

Quick and courteous. The prices may be a bit high, but you pay for the huge selection and readily available stock of bulbs and gels. Adrienne is polite and professional, great to work with. Be careful parking your car if you don’t have commercial plates.
