Nice ambiance, good vibes and jams. Great spot to come with friends for some drinks and hookah. Loved the welcoming and friendly staff.

CONTEXT: we were a group of six going out for dinner and wine on a Thursday night. we had reservations at 8pm MENU: small. it’s mainly a wine bar so it makes sense that the food menu is limited. the problem was that they didn’t have two of the things we tried to order and didn’t bother to tell us until 15 – 20 minutes after we ordered each. FOOD: decent. a little over-priced but nothing ridiculous. DECOR: cute. it’s a surprisingly(and pleasantly) small and cozy place considering its location. SERVICE: this is why they get one star. the waitress was nice, but the service was extremely poor: * we had to ask at least twice for every bottle of wine we ordered. * after waiting for 20 minutes for the second bottle, we reminded the waitress of our order, at which point she noted that she had forgotten what we ordered. we reminded her and THEN she mentioned that they didn’t have it. * after finishing our appetizers, we sat at the table for 20 minutes and finally called the waitress over to ask her to take our dinner order. * after finishing our mains, we sat at the table for 20 minutes and finally called the waitress over to ask her to take our dessert order. * we had to ask for every refill of our water glasses. * we ordered a third bottle of wine and the waitress brought us the wrong bottle, already opened. when we asked for the bottle we ordered, she then told us they didn’t have it. * at the end of the meal, we approached the owner to let him know that our experience had been poor and instead of apologizing, he simply told us not to come back. OVERALL: the aesthetics of the place are nice, but it’s not a place we’d consider visiting again.

SUMMARY: ZERO or NEGATIVE100 is the real rating for this place. Do not waste your time at this failure of a restaurant. Go to Sons of Essex for better food and service. THEFACTS: The waitress«forgot» to put in our order. We had to wait long enough that the table seated behind us had their drinks, appetizers and desert served to them until we realized that we were not being catered to. The couple behind us actually payed their bill before we got our appetizers. In 14 years of living in NYC this was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. Oh btw, the couple behind us was initially given our table. Yes, to make matters worst the owner made us wait for a booth that we requested and reserved… The waitress unfortunately gave our out table to another couple who had walked in after us. THENERVE: 3 hours later the waitress HADTHEGAULTOCHARGEUS A SERVICECHARGE!!! She added her tip before we were able to even able settle our bill. We were only a party of 2FYI… Moreover she did not check on us at all until I flagged her down. The waitress and the manager/chef(who admitted that he hadn’t never cooked a day in his life yet manned the kitchen) apologized for the wait but never for the horrendous service. UNBELIEVABLE: But wait, it gets worse…(Yes I know). The waitress accused me for paying with a counterfeit 100 dollar bill because she never saw the newly minted bills or couldn’t care less to simple google the information that would enable her to verify the authenticity of the bill. I showed her a receipt from the bank and she still asked me to get her smaller bills because she couldn’t verify that my currency was legit. THEEND: I’m pretty much very forgiving, However, as someone who is very familiar with one’s legal rights, no one should ever be treated like this. I will contact the better business bureau as well as other city agencies and have this matter fully investigated. I hope the owner of this establishment reads this. Because he can expect to deal with this for quite sometime. If you care about good service, go somewhere else. Oh and the food was horrible…

Maybe we caught them on an off night but overall our experience at Bar Chevere left us unimpressed. Prices were a little steep, drink selection seemed good at first but was later revealed that they were out of many items listed. The whole beer tap system was down so no draft beer for us. My husband tried to order a Port and the only one they had was the Tawny which is basically cooking port. I think the bartender was the only person working so as the place filled up(bar and seated tables inside AND outside) the service became non-existent. Other people seemed to like the food but I’d go elsewhere if you’e just looking to have drinks with friends.

Amazing vibe, great service, friendly owner who had a smile on his face the entire I was there AND great music. As someone who is half Spaniard, I really enjoy my tapas and am quick to point out when I think they are awful. Since I was alone when I dined here on Monday night, I didn’t order too much. I had the garlic shrimp and the patatas bravas(mad potatoes; as in spicy goodness). WOW. Both items were delicious! The sauces on both made you want to lick your plate; in fact I had to push the complimentary giant thing of pita away, because I kept grabbing pita pieces and dunking them in the sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, soft but with just the perfect amount of crisp. Additionally, they have a very reasonably priced wine list AND happy hour deals. I know this is the kind of place I would have issues staying away from if I lived up the street, so it’s a good thing I don’t. BUT, I will definitely come back, with many friends or alone, as everything about it was great. Thank you, Bar Chevere, for a delicious experience. OLE!

Came here during a REALLY hot summer day and unfortuantely there was no A.C., which made it a little hard to sit still and be patient — this was the only reason why I would deduct a star I ordered a range of tapas from the patata bravas to the mussels — all were really good and nicely portioned. I also ordered the Prosciutto Arugula pizza and it was amazing!!! So overall, very satisfied with the food. The sangria could use more fruit, only had apples in mine… but it wasn’t bad. The owner? bartender? was very friendly, always had a smile on his face, its nice to be in a place where the staff is pleasant. I’d recommend this place, but probably not so much during the summer unless you like to eat in a pool of your sweat.

Very good spot, especially when using Savored for it(20% off– great app). One thing to note that sort of bothered me is that the prices went up and are not reflected on the website. Would really reccomend the wine flight($ 12) to try three of the wines equivalent to a glass and a half(9 ounces). Was a highlight of the meal and my first time doing a flight. Loved the truffle deviled eggs and the burger was very good, Haloumni cheese on the salad was unreal and garlic shrimp was great. Overall a nice meal— would have liked to try the pizzas– the feta one looked great! Next time! Great LES spot.

This is a solid spot that also has offerings on Savored for 20−30% off certain tables. My group of girlfriends and I tried a lot and I liked the pizzas, truffle devil eggs, and the friscee and haloumi salad. They had a wide variety of wine by the glass just stay clear of the sangria that was just not for my taste. The space is also inviting and located on the corner of Essex and Houston.

Great wine bar/restaurant on the LES. Very intimate with a downtown vibe but not too hipster like some of the other LES bars. We ordered a bunch of small plates for the table to share and everyone was impressed with the food. The ravioli was delicious, as was the Halloumi salad and garlic shrimp. We also had a very tasty cheese plate. The wine list had a nice selection — not too overwhelming but with enough options to satisfy the different palates. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Simple place. Went there for some drinks one night. I like the atmosphere and had a few glasses of Sangria which were good. Can’t comment much on the food as we only had a few drinks but I’ll try it again some night and update my review

1.5. Sadly one of my more unfortunate restaurant dining-out experiences in a while. Bar Chevere purports to be a wine bar, but in reds, has only about approximately 12 bottles. Out of those few, three of them they were«out of them» that night, and three of them(which nicely, they provided samples for us before we bought the bottles) were downright awful. You can’t be a wine bar in NYC and be successful if the few wines on your list are disgusting. These tasted like the $ 3 bottles i get at my local bottle buy. The food is direly overly priced. It seems cheap on first glance(halumi salad for $ 9, for example) but it is extremely small. My friend did not like her ravioli, which she said was overly rich, and my other friend said her pasta with seafood was«meh.» That is how I would also describe my shrimp and patas bravas. The best thing of the night was certainly the halumi, but they need to up the cooked foods and lower their prices for the small portions they provide. Also, our waitress was nice but she was drinking behind the bar. She was extremely attentive at first but after we ordered became pretty MIA, so if we needed her we literally needed to flag her down. I“m not really sure if that had to do with the drinking, but either way, her behavior was not professional. I won’t be going back here again.

Conveniently located near Houston St, this LES treat offers quality Spanish wines at reasonable prices. The mussels, calamari and pizza tapas were tasty & just the right size for snacking. Staff was attentive without being intrusive. Worth the trip!

Such is the state of New York that places come and go over night. I had Peri Wine Bar on my list of good places to go and had every intention of going there this last Wednesday night for drinks. I passed the address three times before I realized it’d been replaced by Bar Chevere. I was meeting a friend so we decided hey let’s try it out! We ordered the meatball casserole and an appetizer which was really the equivalent of cheesesticks. The meatball casserole was really just meatballs in sauce so not sure where the«casserole» part comes in but they were pretty good. I don’t really like cheesesticks. All-in-all we had a great time and the owner is really nice and the atmosphere is great(small, brick walls, not pretentious) but I probably don’t need to go back.

I am part of the Sunset Wine Dine group organized by Miditto and Bar Chevere was selected to try out a variety of Spanish wines yesterday evening. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wine and tapas bar located on the Lower East Side, was the perfect location as it was cozy, quiet and intimate for our gathering. I am a fan of blush and white wines and my favorite glass there was the Peitan Rias Baixas, Albarino. It was light, crisp and fruity and can be paired with cheese or appetizers. I also really enjoyed my glass of Cava, Spanish sparkling wine. I experienced something new when I tasted the Olive Tapenade. It was really delicious, spread over the thin slices of baguette served. I would definitely recommend Bar Chevere and hope to return someday.

Bar Chevere is a new establishment on the Lower East side(Alphabet City area) in the awesome town of NYC. A nice, cozy and warm bar featuring a variety of Spanish red and white wines that are sure to please the palet. And if that isn’t enough for you, then by all means induldge yourself with tasty appetizers such as table pizza’s, cheese rolls and plates, and my personal favorite Mussels with an amazing broth that is perfect for dipping healthy portions of pita bread. I am clearly a Red Wine fan, but to be honest the Spanish white champagne that i located somewhere on the table, was the best drink of the night! High praise for Bar Chevere :) Karaōke Man~

We came in and found great atmosphere. We also learned this place specializes in Spanish wines. We were 5 friends, and decided to go for the $ 20 prix fix wine tasting deal that gives you 3 cups of wine of your selection from the menu, and an appetizer. We received 5 very good cheeses together with the wine, along with french baguette. The appetizers were great as well, especially the tacos. From the wine selection, I recommend the«Bula» which was especially smooth and rich and just slightly smoked. Needless to say, by the time we left we were all quite happy and in a great mood! :-) NOTE: I only learned later through my friend that our $ 20 deal was made possible through a Wine Clique called Miditto. Basically a free wine club that negotiates deals for its members. Good stuff!

Love love love this place! Went with some friends for a special dinner the other night. We had great wine(3 kinds!) and cheese, plus appetizers and a small entrée for only $ 20 — a special offering through and Bar Chevere. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, the staff is knowledgeable about the wine and friendly. The Spanish Tapas are delicious as well. Great selections of wine and cheese, and the Spinach and Feta pizza and Garlic Shrimp are out of this world! Great place to start off the night with friends in the LES. A must-try!

Just had some great selection of Spanish Wine!!! Wow. These guys know how to pick their wine. The owner is extremely friendly and the bar tender is very pretty… haha what more can you ask for. They truly seem to have revived this place from the last joint that was there. The best part is that they got some finger food to go with the wine as well along with outdoor seating. For a fresh spring/summer day, incredible is the key word! love it… and will be back many many times to support them. Keep it up guys :)

I loved this cozy wine bar … my friend and I ran into this past Friday night, it was a great fine. Easy, chill spot and the bartender had a great playlist going. This is perfect for catching up with a friend or meeting a date before or after dinner spot. It’s in LES and pretty easy to find. Check it out if you can.
