Last night I was having a great time with some friends and around 11PM I wanted to introduce my friend to Vietnamese food for the first time. I used seamlessweb to find this place because I wasn’t in my own neighborhood and WHAT A FIND! We got the beef Phở, pork roll appetizers, sticky rice and also ordered a serving of wings. Not but ten minutes after I «seamlessly» placed my order I received a phone call from an unknown number so I didn’t answer, but like the weirdo I am, I sent an inquisitive«meow???» text to the unknown number. The caller identified themselves as BaoBQ calling because they had run out of wings and worked with me patiently and diligently over text to find an order substitution. The delivery arrived not even 15 minutes later. Everything was delicious and I ended up with a great big baguette of a spicy chicken sandwich which I could share with 4 people. Did I mention the prices were great??? Better prices than my homespot in Brooklyn for sure! All that food and good service for under $ 30? I know where I’m eating in the west village.

3 stars only to Bun Ga Nuong($ 8) My friend highly recommended BGN(Vietnamese Bun, grilled chicken, vermicelli and salad in a bowl with a sweet nuoc cham sauce). It was good but I still like Bun Bo Xao, beef bun(#45), from Phở Bang in C-twon. After I posted how good it was, the price went up discretely from $ 3.75 to $ 7.25 in 6 years! The prices in Chinatown is getting closer to the rest of the city now, BaoBQ($ 8) and Phở Bang($ 7.25). Their grilled chicken was what my friend liked and it was tasty but my chicken was dry. The sauce was spicier than I usually experienced but I liked it. I like sweetness in foods in general than sweet things like candy, cookies, cakes… I rather take sweetness from foods. I appreciate a smily and willing to help staff members and I agreed with Christopher C. says… «The best thing about this place was the cute girl working here.» Cash only!

Extremely disappointing. Had the combo, which sounded great — roast pork chop, «dirty rice»(cooked in chicken broth), Chinese broccolli. What I got was dry, crusty hot plate food that had clearly been sitting in a chafing dish for hours. Dirty rice was somehow both oversalted and bland at the same time. The Chinese broccoli was gritty and had sand in it – guessing it was improperly washed. This place masquerades as being hip urban Vietnamese food, but you could do better at a Chinese lunch buffet at a deli in Midtown.

UNDERCOOKEDCHICKEN in my Bahn mi. Had to pitch it. I’ve got a fairly iron stomach and have never had any serious food poisoning but this freaked me out.

I found amazing rotisserie chicken in a hole in the wall. MacDougal is grubby and gross but the chicken was awesome. I also had the cucumber salad and papaya salad for sides which were great. The jalapeño lemonade was pretty good too. I will be back to try the pork.

I’m Vietnamese and finding an awesome Vietnamese restaurant is hard around here. Just had the BimBibao steamed bun and pork chop combo with sticky rice and papaya salad. So much flavor! Totally coming back if not at least a few times a week especially when I’m feeling homesick!

I have ordered from here a few times. The chicken is really good and so is the pork chops. I suggest getting the dirty rice as one of the sides. The food is overall a little on the greasy side, but that doesn’t bother me. My major complaint with this place(and the reason it wont get a 4th start) is they don’t seem to have there act together when it comes to delivery. Each and every time I have ordered from them they have forgotten something. While they were nice enough to send the missing order item over to me, I had already finished my meal. Also the delivery time can take close to an hour.

I had the chicken BanhMi and it wasn’t great. The mean lacked in flavor for what was in the description. I have had much better and very good ones here:

Food here is kinda like Vietnamese fast food– greasy and not the best quality. Interior also feels dirty and not a fan of people just hanging around chatting either. I wouldn’t mind going back if I was with a friend who wanted to, but would definitely choose Saigon Shack over BaoBQ any day,

After reading the highly rated reviews, we wanted to check out BaoBQ. While close by, we ordered delivery — the whole chicken, dirty rice, sticky rice, long beans, and papaya salad. A whole chicken with four sides and tip for $ 29 seemed very reasonable and we were excited to give it a try. The delivery took well over an hour and while steaming hot, the restaurant is a few short blocks away. The chicken was not wrapped whole, it was cut in half and delivered in two separate containers. The sides were not only small, but very bland. I added soy sauce to the dirty rice, which made it better, but overall lackluster and disappointing. The papaya salad wasn’t brightly flavored, very one-note. The chicken, while good and moist, wasn’t outstanding and not what I was expecting from a Vietnamese BBQ place, it wasn’t uniquely flavored or spiced. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

stumbled here around 1ish 2ish in the morning on a saturday night. i was really heading over to get a kati roll when the opportunity to get a banh mi caught my eye. honestly, i was not expecting anything fabulous since there were so many junky places to eat in the immediate area, but i was pleasantly surprised with a yummy pork sandwich. ive defintely had better, but i was absolutely not disappointed and would come back again when im in the area. =)

$ 5 bahn mi is a great value. even if they are smaller in size to the ones at Saigon Shack and those farther off in Chinatown. Warning: I ordered the roast chicken bahn mi and found a pretty big chicken bone in it.

I was intrigued by the menu, I should had known better than to get a pork bun here. The pork was dry, the bun was wet(liquid y) and fell apart and it took a while. The best thing about this place was the cute girl working here.

For W. Village, it’s pretty damn good Vietnamese banh mi’s! I suggest the pork ALLTHEWAY. The rotisserie chicken is a good idea, but just stick with the pork. They also have pork buns(hilariously called McBao’s and BimBiBao’s) that are a big size and delicious. The pork is tender and flavorful. If you can’t do spicy(like moi), hold off on the jalapenos… Banh mi special(inspired by Subway’s $ 5 footlongs) are only $ 5 — normally $ 6 – 7, pork buns are $ 3 each. Stay away from the spring rolls. They look awesome because they have the vermicelli outside, but it was way too salty… For those who aren’t lucky enough to get legit banh mi’s in Chinatown or similar, this place is close to legit. Love the name too!

Ordered delivery which took close to an hour. The spare rib bulgogi was alright but I think it’d be better if ordered and served at the restaurant. the bok choy and kimchi were very good… tasted fresh. But the standouts were the cucumber relish and jalapeño lime lemonade. I will certainly come back.

Pleasantly surprised to see a BaoBQ open next to Saigon Shack. My kind of rivalry. Instead of Subways WOW $ 5 Foot Longs they were offering BAO $ 5 Bahn Mis. Bahn Mi crushes Subway any day of the week. And BaoBQ’s Bahn Mis are solid. Good bread. Crispy but light. The pork chop Bahn Mi is the way to go. Fatty and flavorful. Wings are a bit salty but tasty. Strong on the fish sauce, which I like. But their spiciest is only white person hot, not south east asian hot. The wings go great with beer. Good spring rolls. But the sticky rice was great. They had a special adding chinese sausage and chicken. Although the chicken in the rice was a bit dry. Prices are reasonable also. A great addition to MacDougal Street. It sure beats Qdoba!
