Cons: Someone broke into the building and an apartment on a top floor a couple weeks ago and stole some stuff. Also, there are some loud, large dogs living in the building that bark all day/night and pee on the carpets in the lobby. Plus, the neighborhood is shady, especially after dark, and especially as you head east out of the building. There have been muggings and shootings within a couple block radius on a couple different occasions. If you come home late at night from the #1 train, you’ll have to walk alongside St. John’s, and during the summer, there are a lot of homeless people who stay there and pee/poop on the sidewalk as you walk by. Also, if your apartment in this building faces 110th Street, you will have to deal with a lot of noise during the night from ambulances going to the nearby hospital. There is no doorman or building security, just a front desk concierge. Another con is that you are required to get apartment insurance as a condition to the lease. Also, you can’t go on the roof of this building. With rents from $ 3100-$ 4000+ for a one bedroom, this place is overpriced. Pros: the views can be stunning, especially if you live on a high floor; the leasing staff and concierge are really friendly; maintenance is super responsive; the building is new, so there are no roaches and all the appliances work; there is a gym and parking garage in the building and you can store bikes in the basement; there are 3 grocery stores within a one block radius; washer/dryer in each apartment unit.
