Eh. In my honest opinion, the hype is not real. Over priced I guess based on their hype, not based on food quality. The artichoke slice was just ok, maybe I just didn’t get a fresh slice I’m not sure. Crust was terrible, and my favorite part of great pizza is crust. For the amount of money I spent for two people, it wasn’t much, and that would be okay if it blew me away. It did not.

A must-try! The pizza is delicious. I went after a night of bar hopping and ordered 1 slice of artichoke &1 slice of crab for me and my friend to share. It’s $ 5/slice. They were both very very tasty and the slice was a generous size, I would say, for $ 5. The artichoke one was a tad bit too rich and creamy for one person, so it’s great for sharing. The crab was actually my favorite! The flavors were perfect and I would definitely go back to get both.

Let me start by saying I was literally eating Free pizza that came with my beer across the street at Crocodile Lounge when I decided to go try this pizza. Why would I go buy pizza when I’m already eating it for free? Do you see these pictures people post? That’s why. How can I best explain this pie… Imagine putting an entire Artichoke Dip appetizer onto one slice of pizza. It’s a $ 5 slice, but considering it’s NYC and you really don’t need more then one $ 5 is fair. When I say you only need one it’s primarily because of how rich it is. Sure it’s a massive slice, but I could easily eat two or three if they were traditionally topped. However, the creamy richness of this Artichoke spread/pizza is indulgent enough to call it quits after just one slice. I recommend getting a slice of Regular/Sicilian to alternate bites with the Artichoke slice and have the tomato acidity cut through some of the richness. Either way it’s all very delicious. Although I love some pizza on the go this slice really needs a resting area to sit down and enjoy. I’ll have to try some of their other options next time.

Still heavenly, still my ideal slice size, still worth whatever they charge you now. I returned to this location after a couple years away from New York and it hasn’t skipped a beat. There was a short line around midnight on Tuesday/Wednesday, which is both annoying and a pleasant sight to see and be around. Regardless, I only waited a minute or two before putting my order in, and only one more after before receiving my standard double-plated artichoke slice. I came at the right time because they had just baked this one fresh, but honestly you can’t tell the difference if they reheat a slightly older one for you. The E14th Artichoke is way better than the one on Macdougal, and miles above the Berkeley location, so if you’re gonna get this, get it here. Consistently worth the wait and your weight afterward.

We missed out on pizza in Brooklyn, thanks to some ridiculous lines, but my sister promised some tasty artichoke pizza back in Manhattan. $ 5 took me a long way at Artichoke Basille’s. Cash only, but I took care of that at the sketch ATM in front of the pizza shop. I ordered a slice of artichoke pizza to go, which was the perfect amount for one hungry Unilocaler. There was no where to sit in the front of the shop, unless you’re planning on standing and eating like several people were doing. There was a slight wait for my pizza. The pizza was thick and rich and reminded me of pasta, due to the Alfredo sauce. I’m not sure I would eat it again over a red tomato based pizza sauce, but it was definitely a delicious new experience for me. There were plenty of other pizza options there, I just figured if I’m at Artichoke Basille’s, I should be ordering artichoke pizza.

Well worth the hype. Fortunately no lines or wait when I went. Walked right in. Tables can order full size pizzas only. A small is enough for 2. That gave us 3 slices each. Had the artichoke pizza — wow. It was so delicious. Even though I was full, I just kept on eating until the last bite. Crust was just perfect. Not too crispy, perfectly soft. Terrific pizza. I plan to come back and try the crab pizza. Cash only. No liquor or BYO. I saw they offer delivery. This could be dangerous!

Yes this place lives up to the hype. It’s rather small and only accepts cash(so carry plenty of it). This pizzeria was probably the first place to sell me a margherita pizza that gave me an audible foodgasm. The artichoke pizza was delicious too, never thought I’d like the taste of artichoke so much. Lots of grease at the end, but very good. Whole pies range from $ 26-$ 30, and they’re huge! You can choose to stand like a New Yorker, but they also have an adjacent dine-in room next door.

Huge slices, crispy crusts, and flavorful sauce. It’s not the typical New York style slice, but still so delicious. Each slice is about $ 4 – 5 but is super filling. There’s a dining hall but you have to order a whole pizza, but there’s a small area for to-go orders where slices can be ordered.

Creamy, crispy, flavorful thin-crust artichoke-y goodness in a pizza slice? Yes, please! A slice is $ 4.50, so it is a little on the pricy side, plus there’s not much seating so don’t expect to be able to sit down and enjoy it inside. The artichoke pizza doesn’t have any tomatoes, just alfredo sauce, so be prepared for that. It tastes just like super creamy spinach artichoke dip on a crispy crust. If that’s what you’re craving, this is the place to get it!

The best pizza that I’ve ever had. And I eat a lot of pizza! The best pizza on the menu would definitely be the Artichoke and Spinach pizza, with the Alfredo sauce instead of the classic marinara/tomato sauce. Personally I can eat an entire pie of this stuff, but I wouldn’t recommend it to the faint of heart. I also love finishing off with at least a bite of a Sicilian to kind of cleanse the palate, and lighten the feeling in your mouth. The Alfredo sauce leaves a pretty heavy taste/feeling in your mouth and the Sicilian definitely works to refresh the feeling and taste in your mouth. Slices are a little on the pricey side, but that’s what happens sometimes when you want some good food.

Can’t believe I haven’t posted a review here. The pizza is GREAT! SHORTVERSION: DELICIOUS!!! Get here! Famous for their huge, Artichoke slice which has artichoke, Mozzerella(not sure what else) & it’s creamy, and delicious, with NO tomato sauce on it. Flavorful & yummy, certainly, you should try this slice. I also recommend very highly the Sicilian slice. DETAILS: Been enjoying Artichoke Pizza here for years! No seating, no tables. Yep, it’s that good. You stand around outside & enjoy it, or, take it home. Altho, they used to have a simple single piece of wood-type bench to sit on, tonight there was nothing, nada. So, I stood outside on the street & enjoyed my Sicilian slice. I was not alone; other customers were also enjoying their slices outside. This is the only Sicilian slice I like – I never, ever, order Sicilian anywhere else because in other pizza places a Sicilian slice is very bread-y, dough-y, & I don’t like that. A Sicilian slice at Artichoke Pizza is crispy, and quite flavorful – the dough is twice-baked for a crispiness that’s divine. The sauce is perfect & fresh, and the large chunks of Mozzerella that melt are just heavenly. I would describe Artichoke Sicilian Pizza as almost like a cousin to bruschetta. Price range: $ 5& up. My fabulous Sicilian slice was $ 4.75. See my photos – I did photo the menu/prices. They do have other locations.

after going to Manhattan countless times for the past 5 years, I couldn’t believe I haven’t been to the popular Artichoke Basille yet. so I had to go get a slice to c what the hype was all about. fact: any slice of pizza in New York is going to b a fantastic one, especially the ones with the smallest storefronts with no seating. Artichoke Basille’s Pizza is located on East 14th Street in the Gramercy district in Manhattan. it’s all street parking in the city of course. walking is recommended y’all! on the outside, there’s only a sign saying«Artichoke» so don’t walk past it. they also have a sit down restaurant side which seems to only cater to customers who r getting whole pies. we only wanted to get a slice for lunch so we went into the small shop on the side. there’s no seating. it’s a buy n leave kinda place. it’s also cash only on this side. there was one person working behind the counter, 2 working the pizza ovens. the smell of the pizzas cooking was so INTOXICATING. I’m sure no one in their right mind would leave the place without a slice. we only ordered one slice cuz seriously, their slice is HUGE. like bigger than my face huge. so huge they have to put it on 2 plates instead of the usual one. their famous artichoke slice came out piping hot, with gooey cheese all over the top embedded with pieces of artichoke. it was so tasty n the crust was thin n crunchy as an East Coast slice should b. n I discovered that they have a shop in the Bay Area. what? I will b visiting for sure! :)

This artichoke slice is no joke! $ 4.50 gets you an almost-Costco-sized serving of heavy, greasy, delicious pizza that’s unlike any other pizza I’ve ever had. I don’t know if I could do more than 1 slice but instead of trying to describe the pizza, I’d suggest just trying it. I wish I had the chance to try one of their other slices but maybe next time. You can pay with a card if you buy two slices(I think the minimum was $ 6?)

White pizza! Came to Artichoke for a quick snack. Got my slice right away and ate at the counter. Artichoke Slice — $ 5 — Tasted exactly like spinach and artichoke dip. But instead of having to dip chips into it, its baked on a pizza. It was good but I still think i prefer my pizza to have red sauce.

Visiting NYC you got to get pizza next to getting halal guys. NO brainer right? Well a little birdie told me to check out artichoke and guys this is not NY style pizza. This place is what Roberto’s is to us. Drunk food that is accessible late at night that offers a lot of food for a low price. Getting this at any other time is pointless. The artichoke slice is quite massive, I only finished about half the slice after getting bored of the taste. The artichoke is barely noticeable and rather than marinara, it seems like they put cream of mushroom on instead. Overall: Drunk food that is all

Artichoke NY Manhattan East Village(14th street) 12pm Friday 6th May 2016 Three Stars Über was celebrating their 5th year in existence with a pizza party at various locations in Manhattan today. I stopped by Artichoke to try their signature slice. It was big, bold but not to my liking. The crust is very thick, with a nice crunch but no chew. The sauce is like a spinach artichoke soup. The cheese is overflowing. They have better slices than this particular variety. I get the appeal but it’s definitely not for me.

I am not a huge pizza fan but this pizza was so amazing changed my perspective of pizza. We ordered the artichoke pizza which is basically all white on top with white cheese/sauce/artichokes/etc. This was the only type of pizza I was able to try here and I would go back for the same exact pizza. I’m sure their other pizzas are quite as delicious as this one also but because this was so good, I would come back for the same one. I still wouldn’t like any other pizza even if it was some gourmet type ones but this was a different story. Our group basically bought the whole pie. There was 8 slices I believe. Perfect for our group of 7. The whole pie costed about $ 40. Is definitely well worth the money. 1st of all, the portions are humongous. 2nd of all, the taste is just all deliciousness. The pizza itself is already large. other than that, each slice is very thick also… not thick of bread, but thick of cheesy goodness and artichokes, etc. My favorite pizza of all time. The best I have ever eaten. Each bite creates huge strands of melty cheese coming out. If it wasn’t fattening, I think I would eat this every day. Don’t forget to add parmesan and chili flakes! definitely adds to the flavor. They open late as well!

So my girlfriends from the west coast were in town and what better place to bring them to late at night… yup Artichoke!!! Too bad the crust wasn’t as perfect as it usually is because I would of gave them 5 stars, but I was so happy that at 2:30am the line wasn’t that long. We got slices of artichoke, crab meat and margarita… I swear you really can share 1 slice with someone else because they’re so big and so heavy. I love my ARTICHOKE slice… eating half of a slice I was already full. The creaminess of the sauce… mmmmmmmm. I will definitely be back!

I am SO sorry for the review I’m about to write. I think this place is absolutely over rated. I came here expecting it to be the best pizza in NYC but it was less than mediocre. I had both the crab and artichoke slice for $ 9.75. Man, that could’ve been almost 10 slices of cheese pizza a few blocks away . The artichoke was too thick and too creamy. Probably more cream than I have on my Alfredo pastas. The crab slice had a bit of a seafood taste to it, but it is actually only imitation crab meat. For the price and the hype this place receives, I would not recommend this to anyone.

YUMMMMM!!! It’s simply amazing! I didn’t get to try the other pizzas because the slices are so huge, but the artichoke pizza for $ 5 is such a deal. They toast the pizza right when you order it, so its super hot! The cheese, combined with the artichoke and whatever buttery/oily goodness is on top of the dough is so good! I love the fact that this place is open late as well! Totally worth the visit if you are in New York because you really can’t get this pizza elsewhere!

After hearing my friends rave about this pizza place everytime they go to Ny, I thought I would love it. Even though the place apparently closes at 3 am, the workers don’t like you if you come in any later than 12 am. My friend and I went in around that time, and the guy behind the counter couldn’t be bothered with us. He ignored us to talk to his coworkers, having no interest in his customers. After a few minutes, my friend interrupted him and ordered her food. He gave it to her and went right back to talking with his back to me not even bothering to think about the fact that maybe I wanted to order too. End of story, he was extremely rude and was even more rude and condescending when I had the nerve to ask a question since I’ve never been there before gasp. Then comes the pizza(which they made us eat at the bar across the street because they were«closing»). The pizza had been sitting out for far too long, and in an attempt to rewarm it, they just ended up severely burning the crust. Basically it was like eating cardboard with cheese on top. Apparently my friend said she always goes to the Chelsea location and that it’s amazing there, but this experience kinda ruined it for me.

Every single person from the West Coast told me to visit this place, and I’m SO thankful because it was one of the greatest things I ate in my week-long stay in New York. Before we went in, we were asked(read: begged) for a dollar by two very drunk, very fabulous New Yorkers, so that they could split a slice. We obliged, and it was SO worth it. They nearly collapsed out of happiness/gratitude. We followed them in, and being West Coast tourists, asked what was good. Word for word, this was their answer: «OHMYGOD. THEONLYTHINGTOGETHEREISTHEARTICHOKE. ALLTHEOTHERFLAVORSAREISIS.» Needless to say, the hype was real. More artichoke-dip than pizza, this amazing pizza was umami perfection — warm, buttery, probably incredibly unhealthy, all balanced by the occasional artichoke heart. It’s also enormous, so don’t let the ~$ 5 price tag scare you off. It’s seriously an incredible slice of pizza. I had four meals that day and I still ate a whole slice. Best. Pizza. Ever. I heard their crab pizza(~$ 9) is also excellent, but wasn’t available at the time. I’ll be back every time I go to New York. — sweet: incredibly delcious, even without meat. a must-visit for New York. bitter: not«traditional New York style» but who cares it’s friggin’ amazing.

The pizza here is not bad. The price, about $ 5, for a big slice is pretty good. Artichoke — artichoke hearts, spinach, cream sauce, mozzarella and pecorino romano The tart taste of the artichokes was great. The first bite was delicious. But as I worked my way through the enormous slice of pizza, the cream sauce & mozzarella became too heavy for me. Crab — crab sauce, mozzarella with surimi stuffing I hoped it would have chunks of crab meat, but the surimi(fish paste) is more of an imitation crab. For the price, I should have known. Both tasted okay. The line was long, but the people work pretty fast. They’re open late and great for a middle-of-the-night slice.

Artichoke in my opinion is one of the best pizza places I have ever eaten at. I think it is second best to a little pizza joint in Maine. Their pizza was just about perfect; the right amount of cheese, sauce and flavor. Just the right amount of thin and floppy but yet still a nice crisp to it. I was a little leery to try the artichoke pizza because I’m not a fan of artichokes but it looked so good I had to try it. I’m so glad I did, it was delicious! My favorite was the vodka pizza. I love vodka sauce so you put that on a pizza it’s the perfect combination. Next time I am in NYC I WILL be eating here again! You either like it or you don’t! There’s no middle ground here! Busy night but, line was moving quickly. Chose the artichoke pizza of course. Large slice that ended up being wasted. I was disappointed as it had no flavor and the thick crust was not good. I couldn’t taste the artichokes! I was expecting the taste to stand out. The cream sauce was bland and uneventful. The crust was thick and old tasting! I’m sure it was fresh, as there is high turnover in this take out pizza joint, it just didn’t taste like it! Oh well I can say I tried it!

I don’t care how long that line is, get in it. Just do it. Don’t think twice. Get in that line. Wait however long it takes. Artichokes pizza is magical. The crust isn’t thin, but it isn’t thick, somehow they manage this amazing in between that’s both doughy and crunchy. The cheese is out of this world ooey gooey yumness. One piece of pizza is surely enough for two people, but fair warning, you are not going to want to share. The slices are truly ginormous. I’ve had to wait in the cold 35 minutes for a whole pie of this scrumptious pizza and dammit I would do it again. This hands down some of the best pizza I have ever had. Just go there, that is all.

Creamy cheesy goodness. This hole in the wall serves great drunk pizza or something to share with a friend. The slices are HUGE! I guess that justifies the $ 5 per slice… The artichoke pizza is the way to go. However, if you want something less creamy, the crab pizza is also pretty good. Their menu is super small and the turnover is pretty quick so you’re almost always guaranteed a fresh slice. Only downside is that it’s cash only.

It was about time I tried this place. After hearing about this place over and over from multiple friends, I finally decided to see what the hype was about. Boy, do I understand now. My friends and I split a small Margarita pizza and an order of breadsticks. Both SOGOOD. I liked how their pizzas were all at a standard price of $ 20 for a small and $ 30 for a large. Their small was more than enough, which between three people, we each got 2(big) slices. The sauce, Id have to say, was my favorite part. Mixed in with the cheese, it was so mouthwateringly good. It still is not the best pizza I’ve ever eaten before in my life(I’ve had a lot of pizza), but definitely up there high on my list(which says a lot). This location has both to-go and sit down. You can’t order by the slice if you’re dining in, which is kind of a bummer, but still good. It’s $ 5 a slice, which is kinda steep, but they give you a giant slice. I’m excited to now try their legendary Artichoke pizza everyone keeps raving about. Artichoke is definitely a staple of NYC.

You hand over 5 bucks, and in return you get a huge delicious hot slice of artichoke pizza ready for you to devour. Don’t even mess with it. Don’t touch it. It’s too beautiful of a masterpiece for you to over douse with pepper flakes or Parmesan. Take a deep breath. Once your two front teeth sink into that cheesy slice of heaven, you will know what I’m talking about. Man, oh, MAN! The artichoke makes it’s presence known, but isn’t overwhelming. BESTPIZZAEVER. I’m still dreaming of a slice from Artichoke’s. Unfortunately, they had run out of crab and their margherita pizza, but I guess that’s an excuse to come back. They have a restaurant for you to grab a full pizza and a to-go section in the back which surprisingly had no line on a Saturday afternoon. The slices here are HUGE, they are a little pricey for $ 5, but well worth the money. You HAVE to try their artichoke pizza, obviously it’s what they’re named after — it’s basically artichoke dip on top of a cheese pizza. You can’t go wrong.

The pizza deserves a five! But this location deserves a one so I’ll compromise and give it a three. Just try out the other locations or get it by the slice! There’s two sides to this location, one is for slices — so you just make a line and are expected to leave immediately. Then there’s the little sit down side where you go for a whole pizza. Being from miami and a long way from our hotel, I wasn’t about to be satisfied with one slice much less eat it while freezing, so whole pizza it is. This is one of those spots where my friends question me because it looks dirty but I’m blindly telling them it’ll be worth it! We stood by the door for about five minutes with no one even making eye contact; we sit at a table only then to be pointed at across the restaurant and just told«no.» So we stand and wait another five minutes until the waiter takes us to another table — this whole time they’ve only had one other party present and theres about 8 tables so.‘m Not the best start. We wait again, when the waiter comes he simply says«what’ll be?» So we order drinks and artichoke pizza. That’s the last thing we heard from him. Everything else was gestures and nods after that. It somewhat felt like he may be cooking at the same time because he had an apron on and was also really sweaty. Ultimately, we’re here for pizza and the pizza is worth grumpy waiters and dirty tables. It’s crispy, soft, full of flavor, cheesy, perfection. It’s definitely a must eat for any trip to NYC for me from now on! But I saw a much cuter/cleaner location that I plan on visiting.

But when you’re drunk and hungry, you’d eat anything. Well not anything… Place was busy of course. Hot messes everywhere. The only pizza available was artichoke. Portion is HUUUGEEEE and so I shared with my friend. Took a bite out of the pizza and let me tell you… freaking ORGASMIC!!! I’ve never loved pizza. And if I did, the name is artichoke. It had soooo much cheese that was probably going to make me break out the next day, but I did not care ATALLLL. It would’ve been totally worth it. I wish I took a picture of it. To be honest, I think this place is a bit overrated. I kept hearing so much good about this place time and again and finally decided to give it a try. I’ve gotten slices and also whole pies, but was a bit disappointed on every occasion. The pizza is a bit inconsistent depending on which location you go to. Some locations have thicker or thinner crusts. The most infamous artichoke pizza was unique, but it wasn’t that great. There were negligible pieces of artichoke sprinkled on the pizza, and there was just a bit too much grease. Costing $ 5/slice or around $ 30/pie, I would expect much more.

Artichoke was on my NYC bucket list, a decision I regret. The artichoke pizza($ 5) is an acquired taste. The infamous gigantic pizza was greasy and heavy. The dough was thick. While artichoke-spinach, garlic, butter-wine-cream sauce and cheese are a match made in artery-clogging heaven, it was far too heavy for me. It is cholesterol, layered with fatty deposits, layered with heart attack. I feel heavier just reminiscing about the slice of pizza.

#1 Drunken Pizza Shop. Artichoke pizza is one of those staples in NYC. They give New Yorkers exactly what they want a big slice of pizza for a fair price and something that is unique. Also as you guessed it in the name this pizza shop is known for their Artichoke pizza slices at $ 5 a slice which may seem steep but its large enough to be a meal and worth it. After a night of drinking regardless of the night of the week and you are by an artichoke pizza or live by one you are thinking of getting one late after a night out. This pizza place usually offers some of the best people watching entertainment as you see all the drunk fools tripping over themselves trying to get some pizza.

Try not to be like moi and strut your way to Artichoke Basille’s Pizza on an empty stomach; my eyes are much wider than my tummy, as usual. I love East Village for the diversity and history that is embedded deep within the streets, and when Artichoke Basille’s Pizza popped up under late night eateries, I could not deny their creamy yet heavenly artichoke offer. Well, I got an entire pie to myself, which I slightly regretted after one slice; I was full after three quarters of it! I mean, I cannot beat myself over it too much since I will never know when I will try Artichoke Basille’s Pizza again, but if you’re a first timer here, go for one single slice as I found it to be excessively larger than expected; it will stuff you instantly! Are there heaps of artichokes? Si. Is it heavenly creamy? Quite. Artichoke Basille’s Pizza is a ‘must try at least once’; I wouldn’t pass it up if you’re lingering near the East side.
