I love this place! Cute décor and delicious food. They had Txakolina, which is rare. Never disappoints.

A bad experience. We came in after Lincoln Center. We ordered two glasses of wine and three tapas which we would share. They kindly served an amuse bouche, a small dollop of soup which should have been hot, but was room temperature with evidence that it was once heated. We said to each other, «Let’s not say anything, it’s complimentary». The first tapas, ham croquettes, was hot and good. The second two plates, small shrimp and stuffed cippollini onions, were both less than warm and definitely not hot. We notified the manager who was making the rounds in the empty space at 9:30 and disgruntled took them back. When they were served again by a waiter, we discovered that they hadn’t been heated. We ate the food quickly and got out of there. This was our second time at the restaurant, but we’ll never be back. Save your money and go elsewhere!

The service here completely ruined my experience. One of the waiters nonchalantly apologized after he bumped into me while I was drinking at my table. Minutes later he bumped into me again, looked back and continued walking without hesitation. I later complained to the manager Guillermo, he said he would talk to the waiter while he led me back to my table. I turned around and saw him chatting it up with somebody at the bar. In addition, another waiter brought us our food in 2 separate dishes. We kindly told the waiter we didn’t order the second dish, and he snapped at us, saying«Will you let me finish? If you had let me talk I would’ve informed you that this second dish comes with the entrée.» My party was just amazed at how rude the staff was. Basically this place from top to bottom is utterly lacking in service, or lack thereof. Finally, they automatically tack on a set rate gratuity even though it’s never mentioned in the menu or any where in the restaurant. As I left, I told the manager Guillermo I wanted to change the gratuity on my bill. He then pretends that he’s busy and can’t find the bill that was signed just 10 minutes ago. We have a long discussion and he finally says he will find the bill and take off the gratuity since I was not satisfied with the service and email me the new bill. It’s already been a week and I have still yet to hear from him.

I was so worried to return to this restaurant after the amazing visit I had last time. Part of me just wanted the happy memory to live untarnished in my mind. But, the food was just too damn good, so I just had to go back. This time, for my birthday. What a delightful meal! The fiancé and I got the tasting menu for 2. It was an excellent assortment of textures and flavors, highlighted by a couple of chef’s treats along the way. We will be back for round 3 very soon. By far one of the most reasonably priced and enjoyable tasting menus in the city. Friendly service and a tasteful yet relaxed vibe.

Not good. Expensive, poorly run. The best thing was the artichokes. Spinach salad was generic at best. Papas bravos were basic and not very tasty. The olives were canned and from the bar. 8 dollars for canned olives! They needed to move us halfway through the meal for a reserved party. But then they never used the table. It was ridiculous. Possibly the worst brunch I’ve ever had.

I CANNOTBELIEVETHISIS A MICHELINSTARRESTAURANT. Disclaimer: Nothing bad happened while we were here, we didn’t argue with anyone, we have no reason to write a bad review. My genuine critique is that the food was well below average and the service was lackluster, and for four people we paid over $ 600. Yesterday we went to The Musket Room and paid half that price(also a Michelin star) and had a mind blowing meal with exceptional service. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Such a well deserved Michelin star! The restaurant itself is sort of split into 3 sections — the bar/counter seating(not sure if meals are served there), the main seating area, and a sort of patio at the back that’s covered but gets a beautiful amount of natural light. The wall art in the restaurant and even the bathrooms are really nice as well! In terms of the food, we ordered ‘lighter’ apps like the avocado octopus, a lobster salad and a mushroom + egg dish. Everything was really good and fresh, and needless to say presentation was on point! We then shared the mixed seafood paella, which was really flavorful. Rice was the perfect softness, and it didn’t feel too greasy(which is typically the main flaw in paellas ice had). Both our fave was the dessert though — not too sweet but enough to satisfy our sweet cravings! There are live performances that give the restaurant really traditional vibes, but some people might not be a fan — a table that was originally seated left because of it. But again it’s part of the whole dining experience, and it definitely added to mine!

We loved the tapas. It was a bit pricy but the food was tasty and well decorated. I especially enjoyed the signature cocktail. I wasn’t sure why we came on the Halloween night, but we both enjoyed a lot. =D I heard they have live music for Sunday brunch. Definitely will try to check that out some day.

On April 10, 2016, we visited Andanada restaurant, as we have on several occasions. We asked the waiter whether they still did the bottomless paella option, the waiter went to ask the General Manager and came back and said YES. When it came to ordering drinks, we asked if the drinks were included in the bottomless option, and he again said he had to check with the General Manager. He came back, and said, very sorry, that promotion ended in February. We assumed that he response was in relation to the drinks, since he had already said yes to the bottomless paella option question. I had to leave early, and my wife was left to pay for brunch. She was taken advantage of without me there, told they had clarified the situation, and forced her to pay for everything on a pay-as-you-go option. Brunch for three people ended up costing $ 367, which was significantly more than we had been led to believe. I have contacted the restaurant several times so they can rectify the situation, and still have not heard back. STANDWITHUSANDBOYCOTTTHISRESTAURANTTHATDOESNOTCAREABOUTITSCUSTOMERS.

I have been here many times this is my first bad experience. Usually the food is great as well as the service. In the past the wait staff has been Spanish which contributes to the ambiance. Today’s waiter appeared to have no training.

Came to this place for a work dinner and enjoyed the food, the staff, and the atmosphere. The live music and the dancer, the red sangria(whites a little watered down), and our server Leo was amazing! I would recommend going here and taking it all in, the paella was so tasty we ordered both the mixta, and the carne, and we trusted Leo’s choices and they were so well prepared and flavorful. Very good! Will be back!

Great place, sampled a wide selection of tapas from polpo to gambas, endive, croquetas and all of them were unbelievable, phylo nest topped with quail egg infused with chicken liver mousse was my favorite. Lobster and Pork tenderloin impeccably prepared, all their plating are immaculate. Great selection of Spanish wines. Service at the Bar is top notch, Manager/Maitre D” was really gracious and accomodating. Ambiance and décor are very elegant and clientele is also very civilized. A michelin star well deserved…

My boyfriend and I went on Valentine’s Day and tried their V-Day menu, the experience turned into a mess, the food was just alright, I didn’t like any of the tapas, even dessert was a disappointment. The rose and wine were pretty good though. The staff seemed to be so overwhelmed, even the wait for coat check was a good 10 mins, we had a reservation and it took the hostess awhile to greet and seat us, my bottle of sparkling water had wine all over the bottom and made a mess on my table. I wanted to check the regular menu but the staff insisted that they do little substitutions and I should try the Valentine’s Day menu, they talked to every other table the same way so I guesss it’s their kind of hospitality. My boyfriend decided to do two of the tasting menu and I ordered ravioli, spider crab, beef cheek, scallops and both the chocolate mouse cake and strawberry sauced cream cheese for dessert. Honestly, we only liked the mushroom croquettes and the scallops… i planned the night and my boyfriend wasn’t happy about the food so it was a miss. We didn’t finish dessert and we took the $ 200+ bill and left. The table behind us put on a scene, the girl started crying talking to the staff because the wait for food was too long and it didn’t taste good. And the couple left in the middle of the meal. Our server kept coming to ask if our tapas came, if everything was ok, but they should have known what they served right? I just didn’t expect a Michelin Starred restaurant to be so mediocre. I won’t be coming back.

We made reservation during restaurant week, but then we decided to order from regular menu after we saw the menu and the food photos on Unilocal! We ordered a bunch of stuff — Croquetas, Sautéed shrimp, Jamon cinco jotas, Pan con tomate, Pulpo, Patatas bravas. My favorites were Jamon, tomato bread and the octopus, especially that octopus was visually pleasantly presented! We also got the dry aged steak, the lobster and mix paella. They were good but not outstanding. The service was impeccable — We ordered a pitcher of sangria. I was feeling a bit under the weather, so I asked our waiter to remove the ice from my glass. Not only he removed the ice, he even re-filled my glass with sangria! We had 2 birthday boys and they surprised us with complimentary chocolate lava cakes and dessert wine! They even sang bday songs to our bday boys! Awwww! Besides the two complimentary bday cakes, the other 2 desserts we ordered were just ok. Regardless of the service, the food generally was good but the portion is toward the smaller side and the price is a bit steep.(oh well, tapas is never cheap) But we definitely had a great time dining there!

Came here for restaurant week during lunchtime. I ordered a la carte while my friend ordered the restaurant week menu. Overall, very poor service and less than mediocre food. If you want Spanish cuisine(or any type of food, really), go elsewhere! They never came to check on us and only refilled water when we had to ask since our glasses were both empty and still not refilled. The waiter described one of the dishes incorrectly — Jamon Serrano on tomato toast. I was wondering about portion size and how many toasts so how hard can that be? Also, who gets patatas bravas wrong? This place. Very oily and nothing close to crispy potatoes! In addition, only after we ate did they tell my friend they were out of his restaurant week dessert selection — this had to be placed while he initially ordered so shouldn’t they have said something then? We waited forever for it and it never came so we just left. I would have given only one star except that towards the end another waiter did try to help us out and was very nice.

We’re always looking for new places to try on the upper west side before we see a film in the Lincoln Center area. Andanada was on my boyfriend’s radar because of its Michelin star and because we’re big tapas fans. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t really all that memorable. We tried the shrimp in garlic sauce, the iberico ham croquettes, and a pork belly dish with grapes. I’m pretty sure there was another one but I don’t remember which. Nothing was bad, but the ham croquettes are the only taste I can really recall as being amazing– definitely get those if you’re gonna go! The sangria was also very good. Service was eh, waitresses were a little snobby. I wouldn’t return.

I guess this is the first time our waiter was suggesting to us not to go with the tasting menu — as both my friend and I were visiting here the first time. Actually going a la carte was not bad and did provide us lots of flexibilities. We shared three small bites, the mosaic octopus, the mushroom and the shrimp. Our waiter was right — everything was so small in size! Personally my favorite was the garlic shrimp; yet in terms of presentation, the mushroom won — as if it were grown out of ground. Paella was definitely the hit for the day. We opted for the mixta — with chicken, mussel, fish and shrimp. Very stuffing! I could not think of anything better than the combo of paella and sangria. Dessert was also something that I could never miss — got the mosaic pear with white chocolate mousse and chocolate ice cream — with decent presentation and about the right level of sweetness. Andanada definitely had its own hits and misses; yet I enjoyed my dinner here, that is for sure!

Knowing that Andanada was a one-star Michelin list restaurant, we decided to make a dinner reservation for Restaurant Week. The restaurant had great décor — a mural on the wall, nice floor plan, a full bar when you first enter. Our waiter promptly gave us glasses of water and a complimentary dish! Complimentary: Calabaza y Queso de Cabra(roasted butternut squash with goat cheese and chistorra) This was phenomenal! I’m allergic to lamb/goat products, so I was a little hesitant to try this but my dining partner assured me there was very little goat cheese. And boy was it good! It was nice and frothy, with a hint of salted cheese while still mostly retaining the heavy flavor from the squash — all in a delightful shot glass! Appetizer: Alcachofas con Queso(Fried artichokes with grated Manchego cheese) The artichokes were on the saltier side and a tad soggy, which was a little disappointing. The cheese was generously applied on top. And when you cover anything with cheese — it’s delicious. Appetizer: Pollo al Ajillo(Small pieces of chicken with garlic emulsion) This was better. The chicken was nicely seasoned and spiced. We finished this in a few bites. Entrée: Mero con Calçot(Grouper with roasted scallions baby zucchini and romesco sauce) The grouper was tiny and basic. We were not impressed. There was a good cook on the fish, but there was barely any fish. And it was sitting on top of roasted veggies that were soggy and under seasoned. Plus, they didn’t even wipe down the plate, so there was stray sauce around the plate… c’mon guys. Entrée: Carrilera Ibérica con Setas(Iberian carrillera with sweet potato and seasonal mushrooms) The meat dish was better. Good cook on the carrillera and it was nice and savory. I also liked the starch and mushrooms. I do wish there was a veggie on the plate. Dessert: Torrijas con Helado de Avellana(Warm Torrijas with hazelnut ice cream) This was the winner of the night! So good! Who doesn’t like bread pudding with ice cream? They also added some citrus too, which gave it a nice acidity. Dessert: Arroz con Leche(Traditional rice pudding with cinnamon ice cream and crispy rice) Delicious, but the presentation was a little disappointing. Sweet rice pudding with crispy bits and a slight cinnamon aftertaste. Not nearly as good as the torrijas, but not bad either. Overall, I’m not sure how they have a Michelin star. The service was pleasant but slow. The food was okay but nothing spectacular. I’ve been to many restaurants that served better food and don’t have a Michelin star. I probably would’ve docked it another star if I had to pay full price… This was disappointing — especially after having the Aureole RW menu.

Andanada first fell under my radar when the 2015 Michelin list was released, and this quiet UWS restaurant appeared on it for the first time. I have yet to be impressed with the Spanish tapas restaurants in the city(with the exception of Casa Mono, of course), so I didn’t make any motion to visit until the most recent season of Restaurant Week rolled by, and Andanada was listed as a weekend participant. An easy OpenTable reservation later, and my usual trio of friends were confirmed for a Sunday brunch. The restaurant is located a quick walk from the 72nd Street station, and in the daytime, gives a white-walled and sunlit first impression. There’s an enclosed patio area in the back of the restaurant that should be taken advantage of while there’s still plenty of light, which we were quick to request when we had our choice of seating. After settling in, we were given glasses of water and menus, and our waitress pointed out the three-course Restaurant Week Lunch that we could order from. After a quick discussion to figure out what dishes we could cover, we were set for the afternoon. For the first course, a variety of traditional tapas were available and we opted to share the three of these. First, the Alcachofas con Queso Manchego, a plate of fried artichokes with grated Manchego, was probably the last favorite of the group. The artichokes leaned on the soggier side, a textural loss that made it less than successful. Nonetheless, the pairing of ingredients was well chosen, and none of us complained about the generous amount of shaved Manchego that was layered across the top. The Croquetas de Jamon, croquettes filled with Iberico ham, were much more successful dish, with a crisp exterior that encased a savory, piping hot interior. Just as delicious were the Patatas Bravas, a simple dish of fried potatoes dressed in a salsa brava and aioli sauce. The potatoes were neatly fried, well-seasoned, and also quickly disappeared from the table. In retrospect, perhaps I should have ordered a more traditionally Spanish dish, but I instead went for the Huevos Iberico Benedict, a take on the traditional Eggs Benedict that plated poached eggs on top of a minced chorizo(instead of ham) and brioche toast(instead of an English muffin). While I have no complaints about the poached eggs, which were cooked beautifully, nor the side salad and roasted potatoes, I did find the chorizo overly salty and lacking the signature smokiness, and the brioche didn’t seem adequately toasted, resulting in a soggy foundation. Dessert was similarly a mixed bag; the Arroz con Leche was a purely white plate, with a small serving of rice pudding topped with cinnamon ice cream and a voluminous piece of crispy rice. Perhaps the presentation skewed my memory, but there wasn’t anything particularly noteworthy about the dish, except the fact that the rice kernels utilized were a little too firm for my liking. The Torrijas con Helado de Avellana, on the other hand, was the clear winner in the dessert department; after all, how can you go wrong warm bread pudding served with a side of hazelnut ice cream? The Torrijas were texturally exquisite, a firm outer shell that encased a milky, creamy center and had just the right amount of sweetness to it. With the ice cream to act as a foil in temperature and texture, we were quick to clean to two plates of it. Andanada is named after the highest seating area in the bullfighting arena, an homage to the Spanish heritage and history. It’s a bold decision, and one that will raise expectations for any guest that should visit. While I can’t say if they truly are deserving of the name or their Michelin star, I can say that there are hits and misses across their menu. Should you find yourself in the Upper West Side craving Spanish food, it’s a worthwhile stop; if you happen to be willing to travel a little farther, however, there are certainly stronger options.
