Insolent host — would refuse service on pure ego — restaurant half empty at 6pm but refused to seat you without a formal prior reservation — would refuse to take a reservation on the spot

I’ve been coming to this local neighborhood spot for almost 20 years and it never disappoints. My neighbor told me they started with just chicken and evolved. Their chicken kebob with basmati rice and salad plate was the reason my family kept coming back… and now we come back for almost all of their kebob platters, vegetarian sides, and bolanis(potato is our favorite). Everything is seasoned cooked to perfection. Bring your own wine and a great meal is guaranteed. I think this location changed management or ownership since the server who’s been there for at least a decade has been replaced with new faces and the small interior is slightly different. The big change is the menu pricing. The high rent is now reflected in their prices. Definitely worth it though.

We ended up here after bring turned off by the rude people at Ariana. The staff was very accommodating and warm. We were a large group with kids and they were very patient with us. The food was great and service even better — shout out to Praveen our server. Thank you for a great time!

I wish there would be — ratings. Pathetic stale food they Serve and even not cooked properly and this is not happened rarely I tried 3 times because I used to dine here back in 2014 and it was good and now it is simply pathetic. Also the service is poor in term of handling customers and providing them the table. Tiny smelly place and not worth it.

Ate here for a random lunch with my boyfriend. We both had the lamb kabobs. The food was not bad and the service was good — they also have a good assortment of Snapple beverages to pick from. 3 stars because I expected more flavor but overall it was an ok lunch.

I called and asked if I needed a reservation for my groupon. The staff for this restaurant told me that I did not need a reservation. I arrived and at the restaurant and they told me that I needed the reservation and refused my groupon. The food however is not half bad. Its pretty good and might be a place for a quick lunch on your day off. If the service was better i would go back.

Love this place. The meat is cooked to perfection and the white sauce is amazing! Usually we get the chicken kebab with an appetizer. Service is incredible, the nicest people work there. Ive been here a few times and the food is consistently delicious. This place is byob so you cant really go wrong.

Food was good. Had an issue with my order and they were nice enough to bring me an entire new order. They also do not treat you like a red-headed step child if you come in with a groupon(like most places in NYC do).

We’ve been here many many times. Started coming even before Unilocal. Maybe that’s why I never wrote a review. We even were there before the smoking ban. Went here after 9⁄11 and were very touched by the amount of locals who came in asking if the owners were OK or had been bothered in any way. There used to be a big oil painting of the ‘gipper’(Reagan) hanging in a place of honor. The overhead fans were faux propeller blades from airplanes. They’ve redecorated since then. The bathroom was in the back of the restaurant which meant you had to walk through the entire kitchen to get to it. Very memorable. The bathroom is now at mid-field. One plus about this place is that it’s(used to be) BYOB. So that’s a big price savings. You should probably call first to find that out. There are bodegas near by where you can buy beer. We always got the spiced half chicken. Which was great. They should redo their price list on Unilocal. I noticed quite a few reviewers were upset by the difference. I would be too. I checked. My half-chicken spiced is 11 bucks on the Unilocal menu I think it’s actually 15 now Quite a difference. But like I say it’s(I think still) BYOB. It seems a bit too pricey now.

This horrible«clip joint«does not even deserve«one» star ! Food is tasteless, portions are child size and prices that are posted on Unilocal is not what you find on the menu !! The prices in the restaurant is at very least 50% HIGHER !! The lamb Kabuli Palow had hardly any meat in it ! Price: $ 22 dollars . The Narenj Palow was even worse ! Price: $ 20 dollars . Firnee that is priced on Unilocal for $ 3.00 dollars is actually $ 6.00 dollars at this clip joint . I will nerve go back to this unsavory joint !

This place is just bad. They definitely had a change in management because the food was good with the previous owners. I went in yesterday evening and just had an awful experience. I ordered the pumpkin bulanee and the Lamb Kafta Kebab. The food was mediocre and tasteless. The pumpkin boolani came in a dirty plate. I asked the hostess to change both the plate and utencils and she rolled her eyes on me. The lamb kafta kebab came in with 4 small pieces of meat and the rice was not cooked well. On top, the owner or manager pushed one of his employees as I was coming out of the bathroom. Disgusting place with rude staff. This place needs to close down.

Modest, but friendly restaurant where the food is priced quite right and is pretty good. I went with a crew of 7 and we tried 4 or 5 different entrees and 2 appetizers(including the sambosa). Everything was good including the kebab platter. Don’t expect it to be fine cuisine, this is more like street food served in the quiet and relatively clean setting of a small, cheap exotic restaurant The service was okay, very polite waiter and waiting time wasn’t bad especially since we were chatting and didn’t notice it. The tables accommodate up to 4 but they can handle larger groups by merging tables. The noise volume was okay as well, pretty quiet as I like the restaurants to be, allowing people to have their chat rooms without turning the place into a bar or a club.

Firstly I’m sad to read that the owners and staff has changed. I did not know anyone there from before. But I will say that the owner was rude in arguing with someone outside with a bike. Quite random but it gave me an uh oh feeling. I don’t think he’s the type of person I’d want to deal with firsthand. The rest of the staff, guy and girl, were nice. In fact, my friend accidentally left her credit card on the table. Our server ran outside after us to give it to her. The food… we ordered the pumpkin boulanee, mantu, kebab combo, and lamb tandoori kebab. The pumpkin boulanee had no pumpkin flavor. It tasted like onions. Yes, onions. The pumpkin boulanee at Bahar Masala is much better. The mantu was a dumpling similar to momos. They had good flavor, but not enough real filling though. The kebabs were good but the kofte lamb would have been better than the tandoori lamb. The chicken was tender and delicious. My usual go to food here is actually the Kabuli pulao. It was always the best. But given what I know now about the owner change and the downhill turn the restaurant has taken, I’m glad I didn’t get it. I might have cried. After all, you can’t mess with my Kabuli Pulau. That’s sacred!

I’m not usually one to complain about restaurants but this place was not one to compliment. We were greeted with unfriendly staff who didn’t let us sit in the table we wanted, even though the place was empty. She claimed her boss said«not to let people sit because it doubled the cost for the owners.» We asked what the bulanee was and she had no clue how to explain it and gave us attitude when we asked. We ordered 2 teas which never came until we had to ask which then came along with our bread and appetizers all at once, while the people next to us had been served their drinks, bread and all.(They came in 10 minutes after us). I wish I could say the food was any better than the service but it was pretty mediocre. My boyfriends family had been coming here for years and it seems to have had a change of ownership. We were very disappointed.

It was okay — I’ve had a lot better for a lot cheaper For $ 19 you only get 4 pieces of meat… for that price I expect the meat to be perfectly seasoned and cooked… sadly neither of these were true. I had the beef, lamb and chicken kabobs — along with pumpkin and potato boolani and sambosa(which is the same thing as a boolani but with ground beef inside) — The Pumpkin Boolani stole the show and if I ever go back, it will only be for that. You can take a pass on this place

Darkly lit with tented features for deco. Greeted kindly and order was taken with a slight delay. It took a while for food to come out. Lamb chops and chicken kara’e were good. The caramelized veggies were very tasty and rice was seasoned well. Would go back.

Very friendly staff, good food. My only complaint is that it is a little bit on the pricier side for what you get. Beef Kafta Kebab with Rice and Salad is about 18 $. Price aside, the food was quite good and the location is convenient.

When I entered this place, I wasn’t very sure about the food. The waiter didn’t know what bulanee was while there were multiple appetizers on the menu with the same. But it was silly of me I guess not to read at the top of the menu, it gave a description. Also, speaking about menu descriptions, the Palow is described to have brown rice. But this«brown rice» is not the typical brown rice substitute for white rice, it is basmati rice cooked in some meat broth/stock and is delicious. The Boorani eggplant is a delicious dish of eggplant with kabuli chana topped with yoghurt. The other dish that I tried is yes, the one with the brown rice — Kabuli Palow with mixed meat — simply delicious. The combination of carrots, raisins, pistachios with the pulao rice and the meat was so good, didn’t need any of the sauces on the table for the kebabs.
