I ordered a lamb kofta for delivery very recently. I think this place is a bit pricey, but serves solid food. Three lamb koftas were served in the entrée, along with some rice, a side salad, a piece of bread, and three sauces. The Kofta’s and the lightly flavored rice were top notch, but the side salad and the bread was definitely below par. The bread was nothing to rave about either. I’d still recommend this place though.

We love Afghan food, and this was really not good at all. For starters, we love aushak, the Afghan scallion mint dumplings that are light and have a yogust sauce, with or without meat. We ordered the one with the meat sauce, and it came with what was overcooked ground beef that tasted burned. I had the ground lamb kebabs which were dry & had large pieces of undercooked onions, and my husband had marinated lamb chops that were grisly and tough. We also ordered a side of spinach, which is usually delicious in Afghan restaurants, sauteed with herbs and spices. This was bland and tasted like microwaved frozen spinach from a package.

So I’ve been to several Afghan kebab house– in Queens, on the west side and this one. The ambiance, décor, and service is the best in this one. The food I found is the best in Queens, and also reasonably priced. I love the fact that all three branches still servce the authentic Afghan bread, I know many afghani restaurants that now give pita instead. I guess you pay for the location on this one, even though the portion here is much smaller than the other two I’ve mentioned.

I made an order and it took them one hour and half to deliver I kept calling and calling and been told it’s coming but it came after one hour and 40 mints and when I called the owner said«well I don’t know what to tell you«and funny part I was really nice to him when I called and he was such a jerk to me !! And the food sucks anyways. I don’t recommend the food or the attitude of this place !!!

Good food, great atmosphere, and nice service. Came here on a Friday night with a group of friends and left very satisfied. Food ordered: Combo kebabs: came with Palau, salad, bread, and three pieces of beef, lamb, and chicken each. The bread was very good, along with the palau and the meats were not bad as well. However, kind of small in portion compared to other afghan places. LOVEDTHESAUCESTHATWASONTHETABLE! Be sure to try the green and white sauces. Chicken Korma: popular here, reminiscent of a south Asian curry dish, also flavorful and delicious. Half chicken: I think my favorite entrée of the night. The chicken was really packed with flavor, not to mention extremely juicy. Regular chicken kebabs: satisfactory, definitely not bad though. Vegetarian platter: I personally thought it was good but my vegetarian friend thought it was lacking in flavor and quite bland. It came with same sides: Palau, salad, and bread but the actual platter consisted of zucchini, spinach, and okra. No appetizers or desserts were ordered because we were in a rush. But overall, the food was not bad at all and the service was awesome. The owner was actually our server as well and he was quite friendly and made our time here very comfortable. I don’t know why people felt uncomfortable with his presence and referred to him as creepy. I guess it’s a difference in cultures, but being«eastern» I thought his hospitality was not something to be bashed for at all. But I think the only downfall of the restaurant was the portion sizes, for the price we paid I think the portions should have been bigger. It was filling, but not as much as other afghan restaurants I’ve been to. Not only that but something else I noticed was the incredible wait time to actually get the food, we couldn’t really try any desserts because we were in a rush to leave since it was so late. Aside from that though, I think the restaurant was not bad at all. I wouldn’t mind coming here for a casual dinner, especially with a good group of friends.

Very Expensive!!! For just 2 be ready to spend about $ 65-$ 75. I came here with my fiancé, sis and her kid. The portions are a rip off you should get at least 2 sticks to kabab with your food. We got a 1 and ¼ of a stick!!! And only ½ plate of rice! I got the most expensive the kabuli rice. My plate was at least reasonable. But I felt bad as everyone was still left hungry. We got the bologni appetizer you could see they cut what should be 1 portion in half and that suppose to be for 2 people!!! Also, No kids options. So we had to pay full adult price! Another family came(husband wife and 3 girls) they had to get up and leave because it would have cost them $ 75. Just to feed their kids!!! I’m a bit disappointed sorry. Food taste was okay. If you have money to waste on over priced food. This is the spot for you.

Lets start with the positive sides to this place: The décor is very cozy, intimate, and ethnic. I really liked it. It gave the restaurant some personality. Service was alright but I can’t say much as I went in early on and the restaurant was quite empty. The owner himself served me and we had a lengthy conversation. Made it feel more personal and home-like than formal, restaurant– like. So now the food — I ordered the dumpling(appetizer) and the chicken kofta(side dish). Both dishes were not what I was expecting. The dumpling was not really a… closed dumpling; more of a flat opened dumpling with everything thats supposed to be inside layered on top of the dough thing. Interesting. The white sauce and the minced beef on top was pretty good. But the«dough» thing underneath became way too soggy due to the sauce and took away plus points from the dish. Now the chicken kofta — it is a side dish. I ordered it thinking it would be the meatballs. which is what kofta usually is. So surprise numero 2. This dish was more of a chicken curry with large pieces of chicken cut haphazardly. I ate this with some bread. The curry was really really good. I enjoyed it a lot. However, the pieces of chicken were just not appetizing to me. Maybe if I had ordered some rice to go with it, I would’ve enjoyed it more.

I needed to update my review because the previous 3⁄5 star does not do justice. I’ll start by saying this is MYFAVORITE take out place. I mean, absolute favorite. I have ordered from here at least 3 dozen times over the last 1.5 years. If my husband didn’t stop me, I’d probably only order from here. I always get the same thing — the tandoori chicken kebob. It comes with a salad, bread, and the most delicious rice you’ve ever tasted. Flavorful, fluffy, buttery and just amazing. They also have this white sauce that is to DIE for. I have definitely just ordered rice and/or purchased a container of sauce because I love it that much. This is MY «chicken and rice» of NYC.

Don’t come. Horrible, embarrassing experience. The food is mediocre, even with an open mind to any type of cuisine. Every last thing is charged for. The owner uses the restaurant business as a distraction to staring at his cell phone in the back table. Any request or semblance at service is merely an annoyance taking him away from that. At first, the interior seems quaint and quirky. Then you realize you are being surrounded by burlap sacks covering the walls in some cave-like fashion that haven’t been replaced in 20 years. It’s as if you’re in an under-funded set of Fraggle Rock. I kid you not — at the end, he came over and asked«Are you finished?». We explicitly, in audible voices, said, «No, we’re still working on it». He then proceeded to take the plates and scoop them off the table as if he could only imagine his score on Candy Crush instead of the customers in front of him. Please, choose another line of work.

Took over an hour for delivery, food was barely warm, small portions, below average compared to Pakistani kebabs, they were missing an item and didn’t even refund the full amount — they decided to round down for their convenience I suppose, lol. You don’t know jack about Middle Eastern food if you think this place is good.

Cozy place with yummy food. The Chicken Kormeh and Lamb Shank are particularly good, and we always get Okra and Eggplant as well. It’s great to get a variety of dishes to share.

I’ve grown up eating delicious Mediterranean, Arab, and Afghan food. I’m talking about home cooked by some of the best chefs in the world. Afghan Kebab House immediately made an impression. The décor wowed me and I’m not easily impressed. They have by far the best kabobs I’ve ever had in my life. I wish I could eat some kabob right now!

Omg ! The most delicious Afghanistan food ever :) we went with some friends to try it and definitely was the perfect decision we made because it was great first at all you can bring your own bottle of wine or whatever you want so that is a plus lol then we had some sambosa as a appetizer it was something yummy those herbs and spices oh lord! We had also some siders which the best for me was the eggplant, pumpkins and the grilled vegetables and for the main course I had a combination kebab(lamb, chicken breast and ground beef) for real I was in heaven! Nice and friendly people they help us with the menu because it was our first time there so upper east siders you have heaven on earth I highly recommend this place :)

I’m Afghan and this place is an embarrassment. The kebabs were laughably small, and overcooked. For 15 bucks you get about 3 thumb sized kebabs, when normally at a kebab house you’d get at least 2 whole skewers. It’s not worth the money plain and simple.

Favorite thing here was the salad with mint yogurt dressing. Maybe I should have ordered the kebabs but I was feeling more into the veggie sampler of stewed eggplant, pumpkin, and zucchini. Rice could have used a few more minutes in the cooker(as I definitely crunched a few times), and the bread was a bit stale. Let’s just get this part out of the way: The owner/manager has his favorites and spent the first 10 minutes I was there laughing and joking with a regular. Meanwhile his second in command decided that I was actually a lamp, and refused to bring over plates, napkins, utensils, or even a menu until my friend arrived and requested all those things. I thought of just grabbing a menu from the stack behind me, but I didn’t want to be smacked up the head by this scowling little man. Then the owner didn’t come by until we were almost done, and that was to ask me if I didn’t like the food(my bad for uncharacteristically not hoovering up every last crumb within the first five minutes of the plate being set down). I would come here over the other nameless sports bars on Second Ave but the owner could try a bit harder with the charm with the newbies too. Every regular was once a stranger who accidentally walked into the restaurant next door, sat down for 2 minutes, realized she was in totally the wrong place, and then grabbed her stuff and dashed out in a hurry.

This place in a nutshell: terrible — Waited for food for exactly an hour, but not busy at all. We were the only ones in there. — Had to get our own silverware from another table. Appetizers were brought out and we had nothing to eat them with. — Worker smoking right outside, had to get up and close the door — Had to get up and then open the door because the place smelled like garbage — A creepy waiter sitting down eating in the back, kept staring over at us — Portions were tiny — Food was kind of bland & the chicken was tough and hard to chew — The check took another hour to come, okay maybe ten minutes. This is the only thing I exaggerated about. — The best part is, we spoke to the owner/manager and he wasn’t even apologetic. He thought we were joking. This restaurant is a joke. Such a strange, horrible experience. Never again. Don’t make the mistake of going here.

Nice if you’re looking for a Cousy and quiet evening. Lovely warm service. Cute ethnic decoration and most importantly delicious food. There are two branches. I’ve been to both. This is the one I am impressed with and this is the one I recommend. I almost forgot to mention the BYOB which is cool!

I came here with a group of friends about a week ago for a late lunch /early dinner and decided on the kebob combo. I got chicken, lamb and beef with rice. The meal started out with a house salad and then your entrée of choice. The three types of meat contrast in texture and flavor and the rice was definitely a wonderful complement to the meat. The raisins were a great addition to the rice. Now, I’ve never had any Afghan food to compare this with but the meal was good enough for me to come back. The whole meal was around 25. Not really expensive but it definitely isn’t a meal you eat everyday. Overall a good experience.

WHY is this place empty? I just had a wonderful dinner here with my wife, and loved the food. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. We started with some appetizers — Aushack, veggie dumplings in a dill yoghurt sauce, and Bolance Kachdon, paper-thin bread filled with savory mashed potatos and spices. Very enjoyable. My wife ordered the Tandori Fish Masala Kebab. I ordered the vegetarian sampler plate with Palau Spinach, Palau Zucchini, and Palau Pumpkin. Both our orders came with cardamom scented rice with julienned carrots and raisins on top. Lovely food. Only one other couple came in as we were leaving. Really, Unilocalers, get the word out about this restaurant. It should be packed!
