Everyone on the staff here is always so friendly and helpful, from suggestions on products to suggestions on places to check out in the area.

I was a little taken aback by the bulletproof glass when I first walked in but the two gentleman in the store when I went on a weekday afternoon were very helpful and accommodating. They were quick to suggest boxed wines for me and the prices were decent. This is a good neighborhood place for your standard bottle of wine on any night of the week.

This is definitely a staple in the community. It’s not a high end looking store but the gentlemen that work here are super nice and will make suggestions based on what you are looking for(if you have an idea of what you want.) I personally don’t drink but they’ll have what we need for events and they haven’t let me down. The only reason why I didn’t give them the final star is because they didn’t have a particular wine I was looking for. Other than that they are wonderful. There is street parking but inky if you’re lucky. You may have to circle the neighborhood for a while. The M7 and M11 are right across the street on the downtown side but there are many choices on mass transportation.

So everything everyone said is 100% accurate. It’s behind bulletproof glass, but they are SO super nice!!! Prices are great, and selection is awesome. Just bought some three olives cake vodka and chocolate alcohol infused whipped cream! :)

Came here once to buy liquor while I was in the area. Prices are pretty good/cheap here, which is nice. There’s a glass wall/partition, but when he gave me my alcohol, he left the door open to process my card(I guess I don’t look like someone who’d start trouble). The guy working there was very nice and patient while I decided what I wanted. Would definitely come back here if I’m at my nearby friend’s apartment.

If stores were reviewed solely on first impressions, Adel Wine & Liquor would get ½ star. The ubiquitous bulletproof glass is only offset by the shady clientele(thus prompting the bulletproof glass, thus prompting the shady clientele … [infinite loop]). But that’s just the surface. Behind the proverbial curtain is an incredibly helpful and delightfully honest staff that know their fine liquors better than the location’s appearance would let on. They don’t force you to stare through the glass and squint to make out the top shelf items — you are invited back and treated to whatever advice you may need. As I mentioned in my review of Trejo Liquors(Adel’s beautiful but vapid antithesis), this is what makes a liquor store great. You should be able to arrive at a liquor store with only a passing knowledge of what you want and be able to leave with something sure to be your new favorite. It’s hard to escape the ghetto ambiance, but if there’s one place in the area that you can trust, this is it.

This is my new local liquor store. I was a bit surprised by the bullet proof glass at first, but friendly-looking souls are invited right in to check out their selection. Their wine selection, while on the smaller side, is pretty decent, and I have no fear of finding something I like.(Plus, a smaller selection means a better chance of my learning more about wine, as far as I’m concerned!) It’s pretty straight forward and does the trick! A nice range of prices, as well.

A World Cup day emergency prompted me to check this place out since it’s about one block away from my house, and my normal wine store is over on Broadway and I didn’t want to walk that far. The original reviewer is far more generous than I am in his rating, but all in all, this place was«A-OK» as the Unilocal ratings system suggests. What was the emergency you might ask? Well, I had spent the morning at the gym and didn’t leave myself enough time to run to my normal wine store for some champagne for a much-desired mimosa. The German v. Australia game was to start in less than 10 minutes, and I was still sans champagne. I walked over to Adel in a hurry, and noticed immediately upon entry that I would have to converse with the owner because everything was behind a plastic/glass wall. I asked for the type of champagne that I wanted, and he finally let me in the second doorway to peruse the selection. The original reviewer is right… the selection’s much better than expected on Columbus Ave right next to the Ding Dong. I found my favorite brand, and it clocked in at $ 12.95(I normally find this stuff for $ 8.99 down at the Wine Warehouse close to NYU, but then again, that’s THE warehouse to go to). So it’s definitely more expensive than some of its competitors, but in this case, Adel’s saved the day. It was a tad bit annoying that he stood there and stared at me while I was looking at what was available. What if I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, and I just wanted to browse? Perhaps I wouldn’t have even gotten past the plastic/glass wall door. And that’s a shame, it’s a really good wine selection for your garden variety liquor store. In fact, I don’t even remember seeing liquor anywhere. It was all wine. I think the liquor is behind the cash register counters. Note: it’s a $ 10 minimum in order to use debit/credit cards. I thought they’d only accept cash, but it looks like debit/credit is an option. They’ll probably glare at you though.

At first it looks like your average liquor store with bulletproof glass and every type of booze you might desire. But if you don’t know exactly what you’re crave is, they will invite you in to browse their extensive wine and champagne selection. The liquor store has been there for as long as any of the locals can remember. The family owned and run store is a staple of the community. The friendly service and great recommendations have been right on every time so far.
