Black miso cod is the best cod I’ve ever had. The meat is sweet and melt in your mouth. I could have easily eaten two of these by myself! Grilled pork is also very good, the clam is a bit disappointing. The Japanese hotpot is nice but nothing special.

If the service is bad the food doesn’t matter! However in this case the food was awful too.(Honestly!) I have never felt more unwelcome and rushed and shoved out the door in my life in any restaurant in my anywhere in the world! And I have travelled to places where they dont even speak English! Hospitality comes first ALWAYS! We were asked four times if we would be done and when we would be done and if we would hurry up and that they would not serve us after 8:30pm because they had another reservation coming in. Yes the hostess asked us FOURTIMES! We did have a 6:45 reservation so if you’re wondering why they would treat paying customers that made a reservation like this you and I are both stumped! And confused. Except I’m also disgusted! The only thing I can think of is that the Japanese in this establishment were racist! Yea! I said it. They had an attitude from the minute we sat down. I thought about it and looked around and every table was either White or Japanese so needless to say we were not! Plus to add insult to injury our bill was 245 $ yes! 245 $ and we were still asked to leave at 8:30! Which we were done anyway by 8pm. Anyway long story short the food was not even great to be honest. Nothing to write home about or Unilocal about either! I’m «yelping» out of pain! For wasting my money at this horrible place! I will never ever recommend this place to even get water for your pet!

Great spot for a lunch with coworkers! Enough variety to satisfy everyone’s preferences and perfectly sized portions so you don’t fall asleep at your desk. I got the sashimi and tempura lunch set — it came with a side salad(meh), 3 types of sashimi(pretty small portion; 2 pieces of each kind), 3 types of tempura and miso soup. My coworker got the sukiyaki, which comes out simmering in a pot. P. S. For you sukiyaki noobs, you dip the beef into the raw egg!

We had the omakase which had its ups and downs. The sashimi was ok, the fish dishes lacked luster, but the meat was spot on. I don’t think it was worth the price and have had more creative omakases in NYC. The wait staff was all over the place.

I’m finally ready to write this review! Came right before Christmas for the omakase and overall, I was really impressed by the variety of dishes. But for the price tag that was attached, I’m not sure the quality and quantity measured up. Omakase ranges from $ 60+ and we chose $ 80/person. — homemade tofu with various seasoning(An interesting way to start…) — sashimi: fatty tuna, hamachi, salmon(Solid!) — kaarage(Classic, can’t go wrong! Juicy thighs parts were used here.) — marinated fish with scallions(Honestly, I couldn’t tell what the seasoning was because of the pile of scallions piled on top and in the dish. Flavor was overall light though, hints of ponzu) — grilled sticky yams and mushroom(So-so, not a huge fan.) — wagyu steak on grill(Self cook, a total of four small pieces for two people, still delicious though.) — uni rice(The dessert…) We each ordered Asahi and I had another shochu. For my first omasake, I was content but not impressed. Based on the other omakase reviews and my personal experience, I would not recommend getting the omakase here. The extensive menu here is worth trying out by order a la carte. The stand-outs are definitely the sashimi, that mysterious fish, and the wagyu(depending on the price tag). I would love to come back and give the menu another try; I’m pretty confident that the other items are worth trying!

I think this is by far the best Japanese restaurant I’ve been to in NYC. Make sure you don’t miss out their grills. In addition to the food, the restaurant layout/setting is also very Japanese authentic. However, pls note that they have a minimum requirement for $ 25 per person.

The food was great but way overpriced for the portion they provided. We(2 person) ordered a 5 kind sashimi for $ 58 and received the tiniest possible pieces of sashimi. Another order of uni sashimi for $ 25 and it had about 4 tiny pieces… Also ordered a clam soup and an order of pork belly… Bill came in at $ 120… And I am still felt hungry after the dinner… If you want to have a fulfilling meal, better plan to pay $ 160+

I came to Aburiya recently with a colleague and a client. The client requested the place, I had never heard of it. It is a small place, tucked away on a side street near Grand Central. Upon entry, I was warmly greeted and escorted to the bar. I love the vibe in here, cozy with jazz playing over the stereo. We ordered some things off the robata menu. I ordered chicken wings and spicy pork belly. Both were really excellent. They have an extensive sake and Japanese whiskey menu. I ordered a Japanese whiskey on the rocks — I have no idea what brand. It was actually the cheapest one on the list, but it was excellent. After some time at the bar, we were escorted to our table. It was the kind where you remove your shoes and climb sort of… into the table. We ordered a couple of different steaks to cook on our tableside grill. It was all very good. The service was very good here as well. Everyone was helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back.

So this place is legit as it comes to an authentic Japanese izakaya. Their sake list easily punks any i have ever seen anywhere and the food is pretty good. They have a nice daily selection of specials and their sukiyaki was on point. We ordered so much its hard to describe it all, but it was good. A little pricey but if you want to go get some good food that is different than traditional japanese fare you are usually accustomed to, this is the place. When you see 90% of other patrons are japanese, thats a pretty good sign.

Aburiya Kinnosuke is a unique gastronomic experience for any foodie to dive into. Featuring mostly cooked food rather than«sushi,» this small, elegant, and authentic Japanese restaurant will be sure to impress. Food is fresh and has a variety of meats and fish to keep you on your toes. The Aburiya House Salad and Smoked Daikon are my favorite veggie appetizers. The sashimi is extremely fresh and delicious. Fried chicken is absolutely amazing! Make sure you order them with mayo. too good. Great place for a date or business meeting. Attire is casual, but not too casual. Prepare to spend a good amount of money, but trust me its worth it.

aburiya kinnosuke 45th st /btwn 2nd and 3rd ave Friend from LA wanted to try this place out. It was really good we only got bar seating, but it was still good, and the chef’s made us drool over all the food they were preparing none stop. We ended up choosing one of the items that were on the grill already. The place is on the pricey side but the quality was fantastic and overall experience was enjoyable. 5 kinds of Sashimi salt pepper porkloin beef tongue steak wagyu chuck flat Overall everything was juicy, tender. Service was impecable i’m sure we would have tried more but we were already pretty full from the Sashimi.

You know when you walk into a restaurant and 5 minutes later, you’re already planning when you’ll be back? That was Aburiya Kinnosuke in a nutshell for me. Menu is extensive. Both food and drink. I suggest doing some homework before you get here or just ask the server to choose for you. Caveat on the latter: They usually recommend slam dunks(think pork belly and anything with uni in it), so if you have divergent tastebuds, you might want to trust your own instinct in deciding what to get. What I love about their menu is there is something for everyone. It’s categorized by the style of cooking: you have raw food like sushi and sashimi, marinated and grilled fish section, teppanyaki, simmered, deep fried, etc. My friend and I were judicious in choosing only a few items to begin with, which is about the time I decided I needed to come back here asap. Here’s what went into our bellies and my verdict on each: — Marinated eggplant with salmon roe: A+ — Fresh tofu(hot) — A++ — Roasted duck — A++ — Miso-marinated cod — A+++ — Tsukune(grilled grounded chicken): Meh — Green tea tiramisu: A+ Yeah, I’m not a big fan of ground meat. There was nothing special about the tsukune but apparently it’s one of their top sellers. While we ate, we stared indiscreetly at the table next to us to see what the two Japanese businessmen were eating. The sashimi looked fantastic. There’s also this bamboo rice thing that everyone seemed to be ordering. The restaurant itself is quite cozy. There are«private» sections for bigger parties. Always, always make reservations. Price-wise, it’s totally reasonable for a Japanese restaurant of this quality(both in food and service). Not in the splurge category, but not cheap either. Worth every dime if you enjoy a variety of Japanese«home-cooking.»

One thing amazing about New York is that just when you thought you’ve tried it all types of Japanese food, you find another one that you didn’t know before. I didn’t know what an Izakaya was before, and was pleasantly surprised by Aburiya Kinnosuke. Izakaya is a type of casual establishment that serves food to accompany drinks. I was worried it’d be more like a bar than a sit-down restaurant, and I was completely wrong. It is everything a restaurant should be. Nice and traditional Japanese décor, attentive staff, large selection of Sake. The portions of the dishes were not big, think tapas style. But selection is huge, offerings go from sashimi to sukiyaki to rice pot. We got seared scallop, beef tongue, some spicy pork with pickled vegetable, a mushroom rice pot under seasonal special, and sukiyaki. I think every dish was solid. Beef tongue wasn’t as amazing as I thought it’d be, it’s not tender enough. The spicy pork dish remind me of some Korean bar food. Sukiyaki is by far my favorite, even though they are not really known for sukiyaki, I think it has the best sukiyaki I’ve had in the city. They cook on a stand behind the table, and bring the pot over to the table once everything is in. The dipping egg was not just a raw egg, it was a PERFECTLY poached egg. And when you dip perfectly cooked medium rare slice of ribeye in the egg, it was just heaven. No words can describe it. I will come back here again just for the sukiyaki. OK, so in other words, everything else here is a solid 4, but if I consider sukiyaki, it’s a definite 5.

I came with my mom and after a couple dishes we looked at each other and simultaneously concluded that we should stay in and cook ourselves next time. Yes, they have plenty of authentic, traditional dishes but the execution was super spotty. Also, the waitress was surprisingly curt and when we asked her about the omakase in Japanese, she recommended against ordering it. Good sell lolz. We ended up spending $ 100 or so each anyways so maybe that’s the secret to her success?

Aburiya Kinnosuke is a solid choice for Japanese food, delivering tastiness across the wide spectrum of sushi, teriyaki, stews, and yakitori. The service is very professional, the setting intimate and modern, and the quality of the meal is always high. A friend and I were celebrating and ordered: Shrimp asparagus teppanyaki Spicy beef stew 5 piece sashimi — excellent quality and good size(four pieces of five kinds of fish!) Wasabi octopus Mushroom rice pot Black sesame pudding Overall, the food is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the sashimi, which had good sized cuts, very fresh fish and melt in your mouth textures. The wasabi octopus is not for the faint of heart — its raw and delicately marinated. The shrimp and asparagus was cooked well and very clean tasting. The spicy beef stew wasn’t very spicy, but was very hearty and warming. The mushroom rice pot was a nice clean capstone to finish the meal with, and very mild yet fragrant. The staff were extra nice to show us a dish and offer to divide up portions for us so we saved table space. Do expect to drop a good amount of money here once you figure out how to read the menu. As the ingredient quality is superb and the service is attentive, I think its definitely worth it. But once could definitely order too much or too little very easily.

I can’t really decide if I like this place or not. For one thing, the menu is really confusing and overwhelming. Just looking at it, it’s hard to tell what to order and this is a place where you need to know what are the good things to order. The best way to find out is either order everything through trial and error, or maybe bring a Japanese businessman. Unfortunately, most of the things on their menu are somewhat expensive and small in quantity. Between two people, we ordered 5 small to medium sized dishes, which ended up being around $ 50 total. I think it might be more worth it to do the omakase which is about $ 60 per person. That way, the chef chooses what you eat and you don’t have to guess on what to order. Black Cod with Saikyo Miso — The cod was my favorite, also the most expensive, thing we ordered that night. It was really tender with such a delicate, somewhat sweet flavor and texture. The MP was $ 28 for such a small piece of fish, so despite it’s deliciousness, I wouldn’t order this again. Miso Marinated firefly squid — The flavor of the raw squid is really in your face. Lucky for me, I really like that kind of overpowering taste and slimy texture. It is pretty expensive, because they only give you a very small bowl. Roasted Duck with Ponzu Sauce — Skip this. The duck was really dry and not very tasty. The flavor was more meaty, but I couldn’t get over the texture. Salmon /Cod Roe over rice — I think this is another dish I would forego. The salmon was shredded and as a result really dry, and the amount of cod roe they give is small. It looked like it could be a good comfort food, but I felt really unsatisfied after eating it. Chutoro, medium fatty salmon — On the side, we ordered some chutoro sashimi. I think it’s probably best not to order sashimi or sushi at a restaurant that doesn’t specialize in it. This place is about 3.5 stars for me, and I don’t particularly love it. I do want to try their Noodle in hot bowl. It looked delicious being brought out and they prepare and serve it to you at the table piping hot.

I loved the decoration in this place. I had pretty high expectations. I was going to give this place 4 stars but that price for the quality of food didn’t quite match up to my expectations… Lunch was around 30 per person. but I feel like in comparison to other restaurants such as sakagura and soba totto, this place was a bit behind on quality of food. I absolutely loved the seating that we were offered: traditional and take your shoes off with a private kind of booth. This place is a great date place. also good to talk for business. I had the 3 layer fish lunch set with sashimi selection, eel and mackerel. The sashimi was delicious, but the Mackarel was a bit rough and the eel didn’t taste like it was prepared properly(not as fresh). I feel like the quality was not consistent… I would rather opt for sakagura or soba totto around the area. Worth a try for the atmosphere!

Came for the BBE spring tasting for $ 55. The food and experience is worth $ 55. Dont know if I would pay the regular price though. The carafe of sake that came with the meal was about three glasses worth. My favorites were the baby squid and the salt baked trout. The squid was tender and delicate. The trout was full of flavor with the cherry aroma wafting through the air. The other food was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. The green tea tiramisu was packed with matcha flavor. Good or bad depending on how you like your green tea desserts. The service was prompt and methodical. We sat at the bar and while it wasn’t crowded, there is definitely not an excess of space. All the tables looked pretty tight too. Overall, a nice experience, but I probably won’t be back unless they have another BBE deal. — — — — - Full descriptions of the tasting menu items: Japanese rapini mixed with tofu and sesame sauce House-made sesame tofu spring flavor Firefly squid with vinegar miso sauce Three kinds of fresh sashimi(Chef’s choice), two pieces each Salt-encrusted fillet of trout baked with cherry leaf Tsukune chicken with teriyaki sauce Red snapper sashimi over rice with dashi broth

All I can say is wow. One of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at. My boyfriend took me here for Valentine’s Day dinner. Thinking there was only one menu, we went with their V-Day Omakase(special multiple course meal of the chef’s select dishes) which consisted of: Cold starters: homemade tofu, seasoned eggplant, and mini salad Sashimi: chutoro tuna, yellowtail, hamachi, and salmon 1st hot dish: Black miso cod 2nd: Hanger wagyu steak on hot stone plate 3rd: Shrimp and cheese tempura 4th: Unagi(eel) rice dish Dessert:Green tea chocolate mousse cake w/strawberry compote First and foremost, all of the dishes were AMAZING– different textures and tasty flavors in every bite. My favorites had to be their homemade tofu– it was so rich and smooth unlike any other tofu I’ve ever had plus the bit of wasabi worked well with it. I also loved the black miso cod– it had a buttery, smooth texture with a smoky miso flavor. The unagi rice bowl was also delish as was everything else. And as I was thinking to myself: «Could this get any better?» they brought out the green tea chocolate mousse cake– by far one of the best green tea desserts I ever had. The green tea flavor was prominent/not too sweet and the mousse was a bit thicker, but I loved it. The strawberry compote was a wonderful addition to the already heavenly dessert. I definitely will be back to try their regular menu offerings! (I heard mentions of grilled uni… yum…)
